Chapter Six
"Captain Widdershins!" Klaus cried, as he watched the Captain go overboard.
Going overboard, of course, is when a person falls off of a boat of sorts, and this expression is a horrible one, for it means that the person that has fallen overboard will probably drown and die, if not rescued. But everyone on the question mark ship was too busy staring in horror to actually help Captain Widdershins.
The last thing anyone ever heard from him was a single word: "Aaaaayyyyyeeeee!" He cried as fell down into the ocean depths.
"How could you do that?" Fiona screamed at Fernald. "How could you murder again? You told me you actually felt remorse for burning the research center! And for murdering that Snow Scout! What happened to being a good person? What happened? You promised me! And then you go and murder our only family member we have left?" She said, crying. Fiona turned her back on him, and collapsed onto the floor, before screaming at the top of her lungs:
"I hate you, Fernald! I hate you!"
The Hook-Handed man sneered. "And I should care why? Why? Why, you little brat and traitor?"
Everyone could see, through Fiona's facial expressions, that those words cut deeper than a knife, a phrase which here means, "Hurt her emotionally and mentally so much that it seemed like she was about to die." But Esme, Carmelita and the Hook-Handed man seemed like they didn't care.
"Where's Countie, you cakesniffers?" Carmelita demanded.
"And where's the Medusoid Mycelium?" Esme snapped.
"Count Olaf is dead," Klaus implied on the word dead, "And the Medusoid Mycelium is gone. We destroyed it for good."
Esme seemed dumbstruck, but it only took a moment before she had come up with another question:
"Then where is the sugar bowl?" She said, hesitantly. The Baudelaires had never heard her voice quaver before- but it did now.
"We don't know," Violet answered. Esme flinched; those words seemed to be the words she had been dreading. Suddenly, she threw herself at Violet, pinching her face with her fingernails.
"Where is it?" She shrieked. "You have to have it! You have to!" She backed up and began pacing back and forth. "We were so close, but Olaf had to go and burn the Hotel Denouement! He just had to! We almost died! That was so... not in! And once we saw you, those dumb islanders, the Quag- er the whatchamacallit triplets, and that triangle-eyed traitor, we were sure we had the sugar bowl within our grasp! But no-o! You have to go and lie and say you don't have it! Lies! You have to have it!"
"Do with us what you want to-" Duncan said, determined, and stood up.
"We couldn't care less-" Quigley continued, joining his brother.
"But we do not, and I repeat, we do not, have the sugar bowl," Isadora finished, joining her brothers, and her face was possibly the most determined out of the three.
"Lies!" Esme cried, "Lies!"
"Your Esmeness?" the Hook-Handed man spoke up quietly, "We should get out of here."
"Why, Hooky?"
All of a sudden, eagles were everywhere. They attacked Esme, Carmelita, and Hooky.
"That!" the Hook-Handed man yelled above the noise of eagles squawking.
"Stop!" Esme yelled, "Stop! It is not in to be attacked like this!"
But the eagles did not seem to hear her, as they continued to attack, poking every bit of bare skin they could reach, from the villain's legs up to their "In" faces. The Baudelaires (And everyone else) took that as their chance to get back on the boat. But besides the fact that villains would be ready to attack once again, another potential disaster was looming.
"Um, Violet?" Sunny asked.
"What, Sunny?" Violet replied, trying to get the sails to turn the boat the correct direction.
"You may want to take the sails off of the ship," Sunny answered, "Instead of putting them back on." Violet opened her mouth to speak, but glanced at the direction Sunny was looking, she saw what had made everyone else go silent.
A huge tsunami was crashing, wave after wave, each one inching closer and closer to the crew. In just enough time, Violet yanked the sail off the mast and got down as far as she could with everyone else. The last thing Violet saw before she blacked out was the wave of saltwater falling over top of her.
When Klaus woke up, the first thing he saw was sand. Then, the thing that had started all of the Baudelaires' troubles and woes: Mr. Poe.
With enormous effort Klaus managed to pull himself off the ground.
"Hello, Mr. Poe." Klaus said, smirking slightly, "Looking for us?"
Mr. Poe remained silent, staring at Klaus. Then he fainted.
