1. Interview

Byun Baekhyun, the CEO of Byun Exports, sat at his mahogany desk, a wall of glass behind him overlooking the bustling city. He was shifting through a pile of papers on his desk, all of them still in need of his approval and signature.

He sighed and ran a hand through his hair as he glanced up at his clock. He had an appointment with an applicant hoping to obtain the secretary position Baekhyun had made his schedule coordinator publish under the local job listings, and in the past four days, he's had to interview more people than the last year combined. It was maddening, and to make everything even worse, every single one of those applicants had been disappointment after disappointment. Baekhyun was unbelievably tired and prayed for the first time in his life that his upcoming interview wouldn't leave him with the need to pull out his hair.

When his schedule coordinator paged him, informing him that his next appointment had arrived, he forced a friendly face so as not to immediately come off as the asshole everyone believed him to be.

He was smoothing out his tie when a knock sounded at the thick double doors. He called for them to enter, and as the door opened, Baekhyun's eyes became instantly captivated.

His next appointment —- a gorgeously tall man —- walked into the room. He really was beautiful, and he kept his eyes down as he walked, his aura coming off as shy. Baekhyun grinned as he stood up from his desk, his eyes never leaving the man's face as he walked around his desk.

The man was nearly close enough for them to shake hands, and Baekhyun held his hand out as he said, "Hello, I'm Mr. Byun, the CEO of Byun Exports. And your name is . . .?"

Baekhyun's voice was strong and authoritative, it's power practically demanded the man to look at him. So he did, and his eyes widened as he took in Baekhyun's tall and lean stature; his feminine-like features and porcelain skin; his full pinkish lips and delicate cheek bones that held the deepest and most captivating eyes he's ever seen. He felt his jaw drop and . . .

Thud!

He tripped to the floor, and the file he held in his hands that stored his school certificates and resume went flying from his hands. The various papers glided slowly to the floor, most of them settling over Baekhyun's shoes.

"I–I'm so sorry," the man stuttered as he frantically collected together the dropped papers, and vainly attempted to put them back into an order that made sense.

Baekhyun pursed his lips, a smile threatening to show. He forced it away as he cleared his throat and replied, "It's fine. You're nervous, so I completely understand."

The man nodded as he stood up, shifting his still messy file into his other hand as he extended his right hand for them to shake. "Hi, I'm Park Chanyeol, here to apply for the secretary position."

Baekhyun smiled thinly and muttered, "I already know you're here for the open job position." The man —- Chanyeol —- blushed, and his shyness caused Baekhyun's grin to widen. "So Chanyeol, please, take a seat." Baekhyun said as he motioned to one of the two brown leather chairs perfectly placed in front of his desk. Baekhyun took his seat behind his desk as Chanyeol placed his resume onto his mahogany desk.

"So Chanyeol, tell me why I should hire you today? What could you offer me as my secretary?" Baekhyun asked as he folded his hands over the smooth wood.

Chanyeol's eyes flickered down before fluttering back up to meet Baekhyun's as he replied, "You should hire me because I have experi—-"

"Everyone who's applied for this job has had experience," Baekhyun cut in. "So please, don't waste my time by telling me you have experience. I know you do because you wouldn't be here if you didn't," Baekhyun said curtly in a no nonsense, matter-of-fact tone.

Chanyeol blushed and furrowed his brow as he stuttered, "M–my apologies."

"Don't ever apologize." Chanyeol blushed again, causing Baekhyun to sigh as he snapped. "I know your nervous, and I also know I'm not helping the situation, but ignore those feelings and tell me about you."

Chanyeol fought back his next blush and nodded. "Well, Mr. Byun, I grew up in a small town that sheltered me most of my life. In recent years, I've grown away from my hometown and took up classes at Seoul University. I graduated top of my class only six months ago with a degree in business, and figured it'd be a good starting point for me to be your secretary. So if I obtain this job, it'll allow me to learn first hand experience on how to run a proper and thriving company."

Baekhyun nodded, his index finger running across his bottom lip as he slowly said, "Continue."

Chanyeol nodded. "Aside from my degree in business, I've also had smaller jobs where I learned tools to manage a business, as well as acquiring basic skills; like proper communication; patience; organization; multitasking; and problem solving."

Baekhyun nodded."All of that sounds very impressive, but how are you under pressure?" Baekhyun asked. "Do you get easily frustrated or do you power through the problem and maintain your professional demeanor?" Baekhyun trailed off before saying, "For instance, if I decided to say....task you with organizing important client files that haven't been touched in months, that are completely unorganized and even misplaced, how would you react?"

"First of all, I'd be very curious why they're so unorganized, being that they're so important. It's not very professional, Mr. Byun."

"You don't say," Baekhyun said in a steel-like tone with pursed lips.

Chanyeol gulped and immediately said, "But that aside, I'd carefully arrange everything into the proper folders and even make copies of the most important documents encase of misplacement, then I'd store them in a safe and secure area.

Baekhyun's lips were still pursed as he replied, "Good answer. Now Mr. Park, I have another question for you . . ." Chanyeol nodded. "How do you like your coffee?" Baekhyun asked unexpectedly.

Chanyeol's jaw nearly dropped as he confusedly asked, "Mr. Byun, what—-what kind of question is that?"

"A noisy one," Baekhyun chuckled.

Chanyeol smiled nervously and said, "Um, black, I guess . . ."

Baekhyun nodded and mused, "I like anything as long as there's caffeine to keep me awake through the day." Chanyeol smiled thinly. "But now, that aside, when can you start?"

Chanyeol's jaw dropped and he stuttered, "I–I got the job?"

Baekhyun nodded and grimaced as he muttered, "Yes, you did, but now I'm starting to reconsider...."

Chanyeol immediately snapped his month shut and nervously laughed as he said, "Sorry, sorry. I'm just....surprised."

"You shouldn't be," Baekhyun said. "Because you were the first person who didn't feed me complete bullshit unlike every other applicant before you. And keep in mind, Park Chanyeol, I do extensive research on every one of my employees. So trust me when I say, there is nothing you can hide from me . . ."

Chanyeol gulped. "Why does that sound like a threat?"

"It's not, Mr. Park, a threat can be fake and arbitrary. My 'threat' is a promise, and I never lie about my promises. Now, I think we're done here, and I'll be expecting to see you bright and early Monday morning. Now Mr. Park, enjoy the rest of your weekend," Baekhyun said with a smile.

Chanyeol gulped and nodded as he stood up, and mumbled, "Thank you, I pray your weekend is enjoyable as well. See you on Monday, Mr. Byun." Chanyeol bowed before leaving the room.

As he walked to the elevator, he couldn't believe he had been given the job. He had been expecting Mr. Byun to tell him he would be receiving either a phone call or an email in a couple of business days, he didn't think he'd be outright hired on the spot.... Chanyeol sighed and stepped into the elevator, vowing he would do everything he could to prove his worth to Mr. Byun.
