Zachary drove Alyssa to the hospital as quickly as possible. Just in the few minutes from her water breaking, to arriving at the hospital, her contractions quickly intensified.

They brought her back to a room as quickly as possible and the doctor soon came in to check on her.
The two were relieved when when they heard their baby's strong heartbeat.

"Mrs. Huston, you are dilated four centimeters.   We've contacted your regular doctor and he is on his way."

"I can't have my baby now!  She's been measuring smaller than what she should be.  If I have her, what are her chances of surviving?"

The doctor sighs and says, "I will have your doctor discuss that with you.  What I will say is that your baby will be in the very best hands, and everything that can be done, will be done."

Alyssa looks at Zachary and cries.
"Zach, we can't lose her!  We can't!"

"We won't, Aly.. She's strong.  I know she is."

Soon after seeing the doctor, Zachary called their parents.  They wanted both of their mothers there, so they came as soon as they heard.

"I'm gonna meet them in the hall, you're sure you'll be okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine.."

"Okay." Zachary kissed the top of her head and left to find their mothers.

Alyssa's mother ran to him and hugged him tightly while Jessica watched.

"Where is she?  Where's my baby?" She asked.

"Room 202."

"Gracias, amor!"

She takes off leaving him and his mother alone.

"Momma." Zachary breaks down as he wraps his arms around Jessica.

"Oh baby boy, it's gonna be okay!"

"I'm so scared.. she's so tiny still.  Why is this happening?"

"I don't know, honey.. I am so sorry you two have to go through this."

"Thank you.
..I'm doing my best to stay calm for her.. I don't want to scare her even more, but it's so hard!"

"I know.."

"Thank you for coming, momma."

"I'm not leaving your side, baby.  We're gonna get through this together."

Zachary sniffles and looks down. "Not if you pop too." He chuckles softly and pokes her round belly.

"Right?" Jessica laughs. "We have a deal though, don't we, mister?" Jessica looks down and rubs her hand over her belly.

"He said he would behave until his niece was here."

"He said that?" Zachary chuckles.

"Yes he did!" She giggles.

4 hours later.

"Ow!  This hurts!" Alyssa sobs.

"You're doing great, honey." Jessica says just before she gets a strong pain.

"Ohh!" Jessica flinched and quickly grabbed her side.

"You okay, mom?"

"Yeah, I just need to sit for a little while."

"You sit down, Jessie.  We don't need you having this baby right now!" Alyssa's mom says helping Jessica to the couch.

"I'll try. Thank you, Maria."

Jessica takes a seat and breathes in and out.

After Alyssa's pain passed Zachary sat down beside Jessica.

"Hey baby.." Jessica smiles softly.

"Are you okay?  Should I call dad?"

"No honey, I'm fine!  The same thing happened when Samuel was born.  I guess seeing someone in pain just causes me pain." She chuckles.

May 27th.
8:00 am.

All of the family had arrived and were sitting in the waiting room as they waited for the arrival of the newest addition to their family.

Caroline was very quiet so James wrapped his arm around her and asked her what was wrong.

"I just hate hospitals.."

"So do I.."

"I keep thinking about Lucas.. He was so tiny and so innocent.. he never had a chance in this world.."

"He's in a better place now.  My dad is taking the best care of him until we get there."

"I know.. I usually feel okay, except for the days like.. like the day we found out I was pregnant with him, or the day he passed.. or the day his birthday was supposed to be.. now being here and it's your brother's baby.. James, I don't want them to go through what we went through.  I don't wish that on anyone."

"I know.. We just have to pray.  Everything will be okay."

Caroline nods softly as James wraps his arm around her.

"I wish I got the chance to look into his little eyes.. I miss him so much, James."

"So do I."

"When you're pregnant you never think of having to see your baby's death certificate rather then their birth certificate.. I watch the twins and I'm so thankful for them.. but why did we have to lose Lucas in order to have them?"

"I don't know, honey.  Sometimes life is messed up..
But now we appreciate our babies so much more."

Soon Jessica came out and went straight to Danny.
"Hey, what's going on?" He asks.

"I want them to check me."

"What?" Danny's eyes widen.

"I'm getting bad pains and I need them to make sure he's not coming.  There are things that need to happen before he comes.  I have to prepare myself!"

"Okay, um.. lets go find someone I guess.."

**

"Mrs. Huston, you're not dilated, but you are having some pretty strong contractions.  I want you to go home and get into bed before you do go into active labor."

"No, I can't."

"Jess." Danny says.

"My granddaughter is being born any minute!  If I'm not in labor then I'm gonna be there!"

"Jessica, it's for Jonas."

"I'll sit down, but I want to be here for them just in case something happens, Danny!"

Danny sighs and rubs his temples.  He knew that when Jessica made up her mind there was no changing it.

"Okay.  Thank you very much. I'll make sure she rests." He says to the nurse.

She then leaves so Jessica can get dressed.
Danny turns to her and Jessica sticks her tongue out at him.

"Very mature, grandma!"

10:00 am.

It was time for Alyssa to start pushing.  In a matter of seconds the nurses transformed the room and the bed she was on, so it was ready for delivery.

Zachary held her hand and breathed with her as their mothers looked on.

Maria grabbed Jessica's hand and looked at her with tears in her eyes.

Jessica smiled very softly and said, "She'll be okay."

"I hope so.  Jessica, I am so happy God blessed my daughter with your son.  He is the most amazing young man.  You and your husband should be very proud."

"Oh thank you so much!  That means a lot.  Alyssa is just as amazing.  She makes my son so happy.  And she's the best mommy to Enrique."

"Thank you." Maria smiles softly.

**

"Keep pushing, Aly!  She's almost here!" Zachary says as Alyssa gives one final push.

Zachary saw his tiny lifeless baby girl and didn't want Alyssa to see her that way.
She was extremely small, and didn't make a peep.

Zachary closed his eyes then turned to Alyssa and said, "You did so well!  I'm so proud of you."

"I wanna see her!"

"They're taking her to the NICU."

"Move, I wanna see her!" She sobs and moves him out of the way.

Zachary moves to the side and Alyssa sees a nurse holding her lifeless baby in her arms as she runs out of the room.

"Is alive?  Is my baby alive?" She asks.

"Yes ma'am.  They're taking her to the NICU and they will do everything possible."

Alyssa grabs onto Zachary and sobs into his chest.
"She so small, Zach.  What are we gonna do?"

"Pray.  That's all we can do.  I know she'll be okay, Alyssa."

"What if she's not?"

"She will be!"
