Chapter 2
There was suddenly a bright light in front of me and I felt myself getting sucked into it's deep abyss. I feel weightless and seemed to be floating.
I am standing upright with no sign of pain and then when I look around myself the light vanishes and I am on the ground beside my car.
Curious I peek inside the car to find myself lying in the car, my hand to my heart and unmoving.
It confuses and bewilders me and I move on to the road and see a car approach. I wave both my hands in the air to get the car driver to stop, but he drives on without even glancing at me.
"Hey...stop...stop" I shout, but the car moved on and was out of sight.
"Why didn't he stop?" I spoke up angrily.
"Because he couldn't see you" I got a reply, that made me jump with fright and I turn back to find Dr. Wilson standing behind me.
"Why couldn't he see me?" was my immediate retort.
"Because you are a spirit" he replied.
"Spirit" I repeat dumbfounded.
"Yes look at yourself in the car, a few hours more and you will be completely dead"
"But I don't want to die yet" I said perturbed looking at myself in the car.
"Nobody really wants to die until old age, but sometimes you are taken there before time"
"Who are you?"
"I am Dr. Wilson, I mentioned it before. You seemed to forget"
"I thought that I was hallucinating. What happened to you?"
"A Halloween night some 15 years back, I was on my way to attend an emergency call through here, when I was knocked down by a speeding car. I was thrown out from my bike and my head hit a stone. The driver of the car that knocked me down came up to me and without checking me assumed that I was dead and left me to die. I was alive for a long time but no one came to help me, and slowly bled to death. My body was spotted early next morning"
The horror of my deed came back to me in flashes and guilt etched on my face.
"But how do you know it's me"
"I had opened my eyes, just as you were leaving, but you were not looking at me. You were a young boy back then"
"I was in a hurry. That night I was at a Halloween party at my friends place, when I received a call that father was unwell and was asked to return home immediately. I was a little tipsy by the time left for home. I was not in a state to drive, but took the risk anyways, as I loved my father very much"
"You should not have driven that day or else your father would have been alive today"
"What! How can you say that?"
"I was the doctor who was called to treat your father, as I couldn't reach on time, he died. You killed not only me, but your father too"
"No...no...what have I done..." I cried hearing the truth, "Please forgive me...sir...please..." I began as guilt ridden sobs took over me and I felt myself being pulled into the abyss of bright light once more, but not before hearing a distant voice calling out.
"I forgive you, not only for your redemption, but for my freedom too"
