Chapter 1
"I was alive. Had you checked on me, I would have been saved. I thought you would come back with some help and died waiting. I still waited for you all this time and you came....precisely the same day and time"
"I am dying. I don't want to die, please help me" I said to the man, who had appeared through the mist outside my car window and was talking to me.
I was frightened, as my chest muscles tightened and my vision blackened. I had managed to park my car to the side, knowing well that driving uphill on the curved road may prove fatal.
Unsteady fingers and blurring vision hindered my attempt to call emergency. I looked around and saw the man once again, he seemed to appear and disappear at the same time. I was sure that I was hallucinating.
I try opening the door, to get on to the road and ask for help from any passing driver. But moving myself proved a magnomious task and I abandoned it as my breathing got heavier.
I open my eyes to see that face again on the window.
"Who are you?" I asked
"I am Dr. Wilson" he replied
"What are you doing here?"
"I met with an accident"
"I think...I am...having a...heart attack, can...you...help me.
"I am sorry, I can't help you in any way. It's not that I don't want to, but I am helpless, you see I am dead and I am just a spirit. I can do nothing to help"
I was hallucinating again I thought and closed my eyes as the world around me began to spin. Yes death was surely near, as I felt the pain in my chest increase.
Even though the night air was chilling I was sweating. I opened my eyes and saw that the man had vanished.
Clutching my aching chest, I fell to my side and groaned in pain. My thoughts raced to my waiting family. I see their happy faces, Alice, my wife, Brian and Ryan my twin 10 Year old sons in their Halloween costumes. The party at home must be in full swing. They were waiting for my grand entry.
I felt the car jerk or was it just my imagination. I opened my eyes to see that face again floating in front of the windshield. He was smiling at me now.
He had begun to frighten me and I close my eyes to shut him out. The chill outside was now getting to me and my hands and feet were getting numb with cold.
The mist has cleared and the dark starry night looks upon me. My vision blurs and the night noises outside seems to fade away and I make one final attempt to call out for help, but my voice gets stuck in my throat.
