➳ Chapter 1 - Mission on board
I ran down the glass stairs as my gentle fingers traced over the railing. I hopped as I reached to the last stair as my brown hair stopped waving mid-air like waves in the sea. I quickly ran my hands through my hair and neatly pressed my blue floral dress that matched well with my piercing blue eyes. Deeply sighing inwardly, I walked over to the kitchen passing by the living room and cinema hall. My house is not quite like a normal middle class house, but more-like a mega rich house. I don't try to brag about it, but can I do. After all, I am the Alpha and Luna's daughter. Quite awesome, huh?
As I entered to unusual eerily quite kitchen, I was quite surprised to see my mom standing next to one of the counters nursing herself a cup of green-tea. I raised my eyebrows as my eyes wandered to look for the servants. 'Huh, no servants? Something's fishy for sure. Mom and green-tea... Seems like Satan decided to make a visit to Earth.' I thought warily. My mom hates green-tea so much that if I gave her an option between drinking tea or burning yourself to death. I think I very well know her inappropriate answer; burning herself to death.
Noticing that the atmosphere was quite tense, I decided to make a run to my room before my mom could notice. I almost took a step outside the well-furnished kitchen when my mom said something.
"Katherine, what's wrong? Come in." I shyly turn around and give her a smile. My mom smiles back and her eyes twinkle. My mom is beautiful, I have to admit. She is quite tall, but not as tall as dad and I. She has mid-long dark hair with green eyes to compliment. Most elders in our pack say that she is by-far the best Luna the Full Moon Pack has.
I walk to her and stand beside her staring at the marble counter looking at my reflection.
"So, how's school these days? I know I haven't been the best mom lately with all pack business hovering around." I know that the pack work has become a stress lately and I am a little bothered by her decrease in presence these days, but that doesn't lower my love for her.
"No mom, it's quite fine actually. I understand how busy it is, especially since Alpha Tristan came last week for a visit. School is great. Can't wait for another week to go by before summer vacations start." I replied honestly not lifting my eyes from the counter. I could hear my mother take a deep breathe.
"Oh sweetheart, you are going to be a perfect Alpha. Glad to hear the school is going great. About summer, I know how dad and I take you somewhere in Europe every year, but this year..." she trailed off. My heart broke when I heard that, but I quickly covered my emotions. It was our family thing. Every summer, we would throw darts on a map and wherever they landed, we would go there and explore. It was great fun, it was a tradition that my grandpa started before he died. My grandpa loved traveling, and so did I.
"Oh, no worries mom. I understand. I guess this would be great for me as well. Not only for a change, but I think I should also focus harder on my training and learning to be an Alpha. I mean only few days till I turn 18," I said trying to avoid any display of emotions. I knew it was hard on mom already with pack work.
"Come here," she said and opened her arms warmly. I embraced her as the tears threatened to spill. I quickly blinked my eyes removing the salty rivers to leak out. I bit my lip and released my arms looking at my mom smiling.
"Luna Elizabeth!" I hear someone scream from behind me. I turned around to notice it was my dad's Beta. Beta Parker was a man of perfection, but clearly told he was in rush. His hair was all messed up as if he ran through them many times and his watch was hanging around his arm un-latched.
"Yes, Parker. Calm down," she said putting some of her authority in her voice, I traced.
"It's time, Luna, it's time," my mom's eyes widened as she realised what Parker meant. She quickly ran off not before looking at me and kissing my cheeks.e
I was dumb-founded for sure. And this sounded like danger. Whatever Parker and my mom are doing is definitely dangerous or mysterious. And wherever there is trouble or danger, I am always there. You know what they say? My middle name is trouble.
Now, I do love to go on my missions solo but my partner in crime would love to join me. My partner in crime aka James Bond's partner (I am Jame's Bond, don't get confused.. Because I am that awesome ;) Haha) aka Beta Parker's daughter aka... okay, I'll stop... Madeline White. Maddy and I have been besties since we were in diapers. She has always been more of the shy and soft one, whereas I was more of the mastermind and devious. Yet, together we pulled out a great balance. She pulled me into books and academics and I pulled her into sports and self-defence training.
I dialled her from my Iphone as I patiently waited for to answer.
"Hey girl, wazup?" she yelled in such a lively tone that was sickening to me.
"Nothin' much... Just about to go crack up some mystery and danger," I said winking.
"Come on, Kathy. I thought you promised that you would try to stay out of trouble."
"Sweety, I promised I would stay out of trouble in school. But I am not in school, and you know, where there's trouble, there's Katherine." I noticed she said the last phrase along with me. It was my trademark phrase. I smirked and continued.
"And this does involve your dad.."
"Oooo! Yea, sure! I am tots excited." She said in fake amusement that was clear to me.
"Come on Mads, don't tell me that you don't want to find some dirt to pick on your dad."
"Katherine Williams! I love my dad and no I don't want to 'find some dirt to pick on my dad' as you put it."
"Uh! Fine, Miss Goody Shoes!" I said as I huffed a piece of hair that came on my face. I didn't expect Madeline to say no, I mean she always agrees to what I say. No matter what! Then came the part I expected.
"You what Katherine I'll do it! Your right maybe I should look into my dad's secret for once."
'Yes,' I thought with a cheerful smile and devious eyes.
"Well, whatcha waiting for Mads come over." As soon as those words left my mouth, I heard the bell ring. One of the servants went to open the door. I continued back to my phone call, when I saw Madeline in front of me. I ended the call.
"You were outside the entire time!" I said with a gaping mouth and astonishment.
"Yea, now are you going to catch flies or catch some gossip!" She said as she winked and walked along the halls to the Alpha's office aka my dad's office. She knew this house as well as I did as she did spend most of her time her during our sleepovers.
I smiled proudly at the badass friend I turned her into, yet I still knew her geekiness is in her. The badass is just limited. I walked along her as I noticed that she wore a green dress. She was about to open the door when I grabbed her hand. She opened her mouth to say something, I quickly wrapped my hands around her mouth.
"Don't talk, whisper. And what where you trying to do? We are on a mission Agent Madeline, act professional. Let me look for a way in," I said as my eyes wandered around searching for a brilliant plan. Madeline rolled her eyes at my silliness but played along happily.
"Okay Agent Kate," she whispered twirling her hair. Something caught my eyes and I couldn't help but smirk. I turned to Madeline with dark mischief eyes.
"Oh no, my stomach is churning. I have a very very bad feeling about this." She said as she noticed my eyes and smirk. She sighed knowing that she would fall into grave trouble. And oh dear was she right.
"Vents!" I said biting my lips and grinning. My mastermind plan was threateningly amazing.
"No way, last time I followed one of your dark evil plans. I got spilled with bolognese spaghetti and the one before that, we were covered in dirt! And the one.." I rolled my eyes as she continued listening our missions that didn't quite go as well as I expected.
"Yea, yea. But remember, the fun we had. Come one we're still young, let's have a little fun!"
"Kathy, you and I are both turning 18 next month. We will be finding our mates and turning into the future Alpha and Beta of the pack. We should be responsible and make sure our actions reflect that." She lectured me. 'And the badass Madeline was gone' I sighed.
"Ugh, I don't want to think about mates and Alpha's and Beta's and whatever."
"Kathy, you are going to find a mate and I hope he can manage to put up with you." She sighed staring at me
"Hey, I am not that bad. And I don't need a prince charming when I have you." I said staring at the floor with puppy eyes. Madeline sighed and lifted my chin making me face her. She hugged me tightly.
"I am sorry Kathy, I think I went over a little too much. Let's enter the vents, shall we." I smiled, what would I do with her. My facial expression went back to mischief.
"We shall, Agent Madeline."
And then, we entered to small, tiny, dark vents. Oh also, not clean I suppose. Yea, definitely dirty vents.
