Author's Note

Well, you made it to the end of the book. Bravo and thank you! I hope you enjoyed reading about Rose's story just as much as I enjoyed writing it. And speaking of Rose, I have a few words to say about her, and would love if you wouldn't mind reading one more chapter if you're not too drained from crying you're eyes out from that last chapter.

Rose's story is an interesting one. I first got the idea long before I even knew Wattpad existed, when I was in fourth grade and we were learning about the Revolutionary War. I remember my teacher talking about all of the battles and how unfair King George was and how the British were controlling us, but I also remembered wondering about how the British felt and how all of these men heroes were being mentioned, but not many woman.

So that very same night I went home and being the nerdy, bookworm 3rd grade self I was, poured myself over the internet, searching up everything and anything about the revolution and about woman in the revolution. And it wasn't until six months ago, right after I finished my other book, I stumbled upon an article that talked about the woman of the revolution.

Bored, I clicked on it, and was astonished to see the lists of hidden groups of woman that worked for the revolution that were just recently discovered. As I continued to scroll through it I read that many woman would gather together in groups as spies to gather information for either the British or the Americans, some using tactics like flirting or using them being a woman to their advantage.

And the most amazing part to me was how no one suspected them because they were woman, and how they used that to their advantage and gathered some extremely important information for both sides by doing that. They recognized that they weren't respected and used that to seem like they were innocent, all the while plotting against the enemy.

I mean, how cool is that? I don't know if I could have the courage to do that in times where treason was punishable with death and shame to my family. But so many woman who weren't recognized in history did this and many gave their lives to the revolution and weren't given the credit they deserved.

And that's what gave me the motivation to write this book. To bring justice and recognition to the woman in the revolution who risked their lives and weren't given the recognition they should get. And while the Shadow Group and Rose, Josie, her mom, Joseph, Fiona and the Shadow Group are fictional, they are based on events that actually happened, like Rose being engaged to Charlie (who is real) and having to flirt with him for information, and Rose having to be enslaved to Sophia's rules (who is also real.)

So all in all, I am so happy that you chose to read my book, and wasn't fazed by the genre, which I know most people presume is boring. I hope you enjoy my story and always remember that like Rose and all of the wonderful people who contributed to revolution, you can do anything you put your mind to. If you have a dream, go for it.

The main theme of my story, if you haven't figured it out yet, is that you only live once. With recent events concerning the COVID19 pandemic we've all came to the realization that life can end quicker than we could imagine, leaving us with so many things we wish we'd done.

So wear that outfit you love even if you think people might not like it. Eat those strawberry crepes that are 1000 calories. Dance in the rain and scream your favorite song in the car. Tell your crush you like them, audition for that play, apply for that school, flirt with that cute cashier, tell your family you love them, make that friend, travel around the world, take the path your heart is telling you to go down.

Cause at the end of the day, it all comes down to you. What do you want to do with your life? What mark do you want to make on the world? You can do anything you put your mind too; I'm not saying there won't be sacrifices or hard times because life is just full of them. But I am saying that you only get one chance, and you need to seize it.

Cause one day, (and I don't mean to be morbid here) you might find that your life is over, and that there are so many things you haven't done.

Thank you for reading, fellow Wattpadder. I hope all of your dreams come true, whatever they are. And always remember that you can do anything. You only have once chance at life, so take advantage of every moment before it's gone.

Much love,

Rachel.
