Chapter 3
"Mom, I want to go to camp," 7-year-old Annabeth announced.
"Which camp ?" Athena asked, her gaze shifting from the paper in her hand to Annabeth.
"The one that Thalia goes to and I want to take Piper with me."
"But you haven't completed your studies and duties. It's your duty to be there when your subjects need you."
Annabeth pouted. "I never get to do anything interesting. All I do is sit in boring meetings all day. I have already finished all my studies. Besides, its summer. No one studies during summer!"
Athena frowned. "Who told you that?"
"Piper!"
"That girl is bad influence," Athena said, shaking her head. "And you can't go to the camp."
And in the next second Annabeth was crying. She bawled her eyes out until Athena finally agreed. And before you ask, no, Annabeth wasn't a crybaby. She just knew how to act well and manipulate people to do as wishes. A skill she would find very useful in the future.
That's how Piper and Annabeth found themselves in the camp waiting eagerly for Thalia to arrive. Soon Thalia arrived along with two boys. Annabeth watched as the three chatted away like long lost best friends. She didn't like that one bit. Annabeth and Piper were supposed to be Thalia's best friends! Not some two boys Thalia met two minutes ago.
Thalia had been Annabeth's first best friend. Being the daughter of a duchess, Thalia and Annabeth met quite frequently at balls hosted in the palace. A few months later, Piper had been appointed as her lady in waiting. At first Annabeth hated her, but soon Piper grew on her and before she knew it, they were best of friends. They had become the naughty trio, always getting into trouble. But no one could scold them, because the princess was part of the trio. They would play hide and seek in the palace, crashing vases and statues and laughing until they started crying. Then Athena would scold the three of them and make them help the maids clean up the mess they had made. It was a cycle the three of them followed religiously.
Yet here was Thalia chatting away with two boys completely ignoring her. Annabeth frowned. Suddenly Thalia squealed and rushed forward and hugged her and Piper. Annabeth grinned and hugged her back, all worries forgotten.
She then went ahead and introduced the two boys.
"This is Jason," she said pointing to the blonde boy. "He is the step-brother I was talking to you about."
"And this, is Percy, Jason's best friend." she said pointing to the black-haired boy.
Jason smiled at the two of them. Percy however, was blatantly staring at her.
"You like a Barbie."
Annabeth narrowed her eyes, taking an instant dislike to him. She hated being called Barbie. Being a princess instantly made people think of her as a dumb girl who only cared about her dresses, which was why she insisted that no one knew in camp should know that she was a princess. Seeing that Annabeth wasn't wearing a tiara 10-year-old Thalia immediately knew that Annabeth didn't want her identity revealed.
"Ignore Percy. He is very stupid anyway." Thalia said trying to rescue Percy from Annabeth's wrath. Percy however being the oblivious person he is, had to open his mouth.
"Don't you like being called Barbie? It was a compliment."
"Yeah right and I am a demigod," Annabeth said furiously.
"You look like Barbie's twin," Percy continued, oblivious to the pointed looks from Piper and Thalia, who were trying to save him.
"I am not like Barbie!" Annabeth huffed followed by some very colorful words, words that shouldn't be known by a 7-year-old. Especially, not by a princess. However, spending a day with Thalia could teach you many stuff.
Percy frowned. He did not like being called an A-hole, whatever that meant. And that resulted in him calling her a Barbie again and again. And this intern, resulted in a full blown out verbal fight with Annabeth using words that would make any adult blush, and Percy repeating just one word repeatedly. As I was saying, Prince Perseus and Princess Annabeth's story didn't exactly start like a fairytale.
