Chapter 15
This chapter starts of with a different POV view. Hope you like it!
Athena POV
Many different thoughts were running through Athena's mind. Over the two months, Athena had watched the friendship blossom between Annabeth and Percy. A few days ago, she had caught Percy and Annabeth making out in the hallway. She didn't interrupt them, but she was glad that Annabeth liked Prince Perseus. Being a Queen as well as a mother was a very hard job. She wanted the best for her daughter, but being a queen, she couldn't do so. She had to think about the welfare of her city as well. Several times she sacrificed her own daughter's happiness for the better of the kingdom. Hopefully, Annabeth would understand some day. But despite the marriage being arranged, the fact that Annabeth actually liked the prince was a balm to her wound.
Athena dressed up in a regal robe. Today, was the day all the twelve Olympian rulers, Zeus, Hades, Demeter, Dionysius, Ares, Aphrodite, Hermes, Hephaestus, Artemis, Apollo, Poseidon and herself would be meeting after almost 20 years, along with their sons and daughters for the wedding and to discuss about the prophecy.
Athena entered the room in which the meeting was supposed to be held. Hours past by and soon Athena stepped out of the room and let out a sigh of relief. The meeting hadn't gone well. The meetings never did. They somehow always ended up fighting over petty things. Thankfully it was finished.
All the rulers were staying in the palace of Atlantis for the wedding and to come up with a peace treaty. Apart from the various kings and queen, there was Jason, son of Zeus; Nico, son of Hades; Katie, daughter of Demeter; Clarisse, daughter of Ares; Silena, daughter of Aphrodite; Luke, son of Hermes; Will, son of Apollo. They were all almost the same age as Annabeth. In fact, if the Oracle didn't give the prophecy, she would have gotten Annabeth married to Luke or Jason.
Athena didn't know how all the kingdoms would unite. But one thing was for sure, if the prophecy wasn't fulfilled soon, Athens was doomed. The situation was much worse than anyone can imagine, especially in the war prone areas. Only she and her trusted advisor knew the true gravity of the situation. Not even Annabeth. She didn't want to scare everybody. Athena prayed to all the gods for the welfare of her beloved kingdom.
Annabeth POV
Annabeth was freaking out. She had been dreaming of this day since when she was 14. She couldn't have anything go wrong on this day. It had to be perfect to the dot. And the hardest part was that she couldn't show that she cared too much about the wedding as it was supposedly an 'arranged marriage.'
There was a week left and there were so many things to do. The wedding would be taking place in Atlanta itself. Yesterday, Piper had arrived from Athens and she was supposed to help Annabeth choose her dress for the wedding.
The day after Piper's arrival, the royal seamstress came to Annabeth's room with a selection of dresses. She had taken Annabeth's measurements a week ago and had come up with several options for the princess.
Annabeth took the first dress and put it on. As Annabeth stared at herself in the mirror, Piper, who was behind her, whistled loudly earning a lot of looks.
"You should definitely wear this dress. Percy's going to have tough time talking with you around wearing this dress."
Annabeth frowned. "But it looks too scandalous."
Piper shook her head, exasperated and handed her the next dress. This went on for many more hours. Sure, the royal seamstress had made several dresses for her to choose from, but none of them seemed to be of both Annabeth's and Piper's liking. Every dress was either too short, or too frumpy, or too colorful and the list goes on and on.
"I swear, Annabeth. Who would have thought that you would be more finnicky about dresses than me?"
"Not my problem. I have dreamed of my wedding day since years. Everything needs to be perfect. It's not my problem that I am a perfectionist!" Annabeth replied defensively.
At that moment Queen Sally walked in to check on the girls. Seeing Annabeth look all frustrated she smiled. "What happened? Not able to find the perfect dress?"
"Yeah. I mean like all the dresses are beautiful ... but there are not me. I know it doesn't make sense but ..." Annabeth trailed off.
Sally nodded and asked Annabeth and Piper to sit beside her and politely asked the seamstress to leave.
"You know Annabeth, I have a feeling that you don't like too extravagant dresses. Not scandalous ones either. Perhaps something simple and sophisticated. But we can't have it simple as after all you are a well-known princess. Probably with some net and florals. What do you think about that?" Sally asked.
Annabeth nodded excitedly, "That's perfect, but how did you know?"
"Of course, I know. After all, you have been dating my son for years."
Looking at the shocked and scared faces on Annabeth and Piper, she chuckled and continued, "My son might be mischievous but there is not much he can hide from his mother. Poseidon is always busy running the kingdom and that resulted in me and Percy growing very close. Every year he used to come back form camp talking about this pretty blonde who hated him. And then it changed to best friend. And then crush. And soon it became girlfriend. The only thing he talked about was you. To me only, of course. His father knows nothing about this. Personally, I think you both look very cute together."
"I know right! The only thing she talked about was Percy. Percy this, Percy that. But yet she wouldn't make a single move on him," Piper exclaimed. "You know, it was because of a bet we made that Annabeth and Percy stopped trying to kill each other every time they came near each other."
And then Sally and Piper went on fangirling about Percabeth, with each comment making Annabeth blush more and more. Everybody forgot formalities and the evening was spent laughing and enjoying.
