Chapter 11

Annabeth stared at the lake as she sat down beside Percy. This was where she and Percy had started dating. Here, three years ago, her life had taken a turn for the better. Here, three years ago, best friend became her boyfriend. Here, three years ago, was  when she started falling in love with Percy.

Percy didn't do a bad job in arranging for the date. In fact, she couldn't have done it better. He hadn't got much food, as they had finished their lunch about 2-3 hours ago. They were having the picnic at the exact spot where they had started dating.

"Race you to the top of the tree!" Percy shout and started climbing a tree.

Annabeth laughed and ran to the other tree. It was one of her favorite sport to do after sword fighting. Not the kind of sport that normal royals were supposed to play, but since when were they normal? There were two twin trees near the lack that they used for the sport. The lake was slightly far away from the camp so the loser had to give a piggyback ride to the winner. By the time Annabeth had climbed half the tree, Percy was already on the top.

"Not fair. You started first. Cheater," Annabeth shouted at him.

"I won!" Percy exclaimed slinging an arm around Annabeth's shoulder once they had bith gotten off their respective trees.

"Only because you cheated," Annabeth huffed, rubbing her dirty palms on her shorts. She hadn't bothered wearing a dress for the date since she knew that they would end up doing crazy stuff and the dress would come in her way.

"We should start eating. I got some blue cookies," Percy said nervously. That confused Annabeth. Why was he nervous? Sitting down, Annabeth opened the basket and was hit with the aroma of freshly baked cookies, more specifically baked blue cookies. She took out a cookie and bit into it. And that's when she noticed that Percy was sweating.

"Percy? Are you fine? You are sweating."

"Yeah I'm fine. Why won't I be?"

"Are you sure?" Annabeth asked worriedly. "You look a little ill."

Percy just waved it off with a small, nervous laugh. Annabeth looked at him weirdly but let the topic go. The two of them started eating and soon they were bickering about something trivial. They had nearly finished all the cookies in the basket when Annabeth felt a small box in the basket while taking a cookie. Puzzled, she took it out and at Percy

On seeing the box, Percy gulped. "Go on, open it."

Annabeth opened it and gasped when she found a gorgeous sapphire ring inside the box. The sapphire stone had four small pieces of diamond on four sides. The light from the Sun reflected on it  giving it a heavenly glow.

Annabeth felt Percy take her hand. Looking down she saw Percy kneeling on one leg. "Annabeth Minerva Chase, the first time I met you, I thought you looked like a princess. Little did  I know how right I was. I tried getting your attention desperately but you were intent upon hating me. So, I started playing pranks on you. It was fun and I could stare at you all day and Jason wouldn't question it. You were so smart, pretty and fierce. You were perfect. And then you became my best friend. Spending time with you was amazing. I used to look forward to seeing you the entire year. And the fact that we met only during the summer, made it even more special. But I was scared. Scared that you saw me only as a best friend or brother. When you kissed me, I was in complete shock. And then we started dating. It was the best 3 years of my life. Now I can't think about a life without you. I know that we are too young to think of marriage and we both are royalty so there are less chances of us actually getting married, but we'll figure it out, like we always do. Honestly, I can't wait. I understand if you think it's too early for commitment, but I can't imagine my future without you. Because wise girl, my future is you."

Annabeth stared at Percy in shock. She opened her mouth but no words came out. Without warning, tears started flowing down her cheeks. Annabeth looked down trying to blink away the tears, when she noticed that she was wearing shorts and a worn out camp t-shirt for her proposal.

"Seaweed brain!" she huffed. "You could have at least told me to wear something nice. Look at me with mud on my face and short and my hair all untidy. What will we tell our kids, huh? That Daddy proposed to Mommy while she looked like she was homeless?"

"You look beautiful. So that's a yes?" Perc asked hopefully.

"Hmmm......Let's see," Annabeth drawled mockingly.

"Annabeth hurry up! My knees our paining!"

"Of course, you doofus," Annabeth said pecking him on the lips.

Percy took the box from Annabeth, and took out the ring. Percy gently placed it on her finger.

"It looks gorgeous!" Annabeth exclaimed.

"You look gorgeous."

"Oh! Stop with all the corny stuff!" Annabeth exclaimed as she shoved his shoulder.

They spent their entire evening there, beside the lake, with their hands intertwined, eating blue cookies and laughing about everything and anything. And that's how Prince Perseus' and Princess Annabeth's engaged life started. With sword fighting and blue cookies.
