Chapter 6

Ashstar waded through a giant stream, with no ending in sight. She was surrounded by fog, and was trying to reach a small glowing creature, the size of a cat. When she got closer, Ashstar was surprised to see Silverblaze sitting on a rock, waiting for her.

"Ah, there you are! I have another prophecy for you!" The StarClan cat meowed. "I know the other is yet to happen but StarClan left out a part that you should hear."

The former leader's eyes started to glow and she began to speak the prophecy in a deep voice.

"There will come the cats, with split destinies, to guide the Clans through times of trouble. The sun and moon will work together for the worst, Smoke will heal, it will know things you don't, holly will protect the ones you care about most, united, they will help you when you're lost. Don't forget: A crow will fly at dawn innocent and immortal, but don't let your clan stop it's flight, or dawn shall turn to endless night."

Ashstar shivered as she woke up. She had no idea what the prophecy meant. Maybe it had something to do with cats....

"Of course!" The leader meowed to herself. She had just apprenticed Dawnpaw and Crowpaw, but what could the prophecy have to do with them? Or perhaps it was literal, and an injured crow would show up on camp and they had to help it?

Ashstar shook her head, it would make sense in time. Right now however, she had a Clan to lead.

Ashstar padded out of her den just in time to see Riverstorm sorting the patrol

"Lemonheart, Cloudpelt, Cedarstripe, Firesong, Feathershine, Leafpaw, Dawnpaw, Gingerpaw, Needlepaw, Oakpaw and Crowpaw! You are on hunting duty, go to the Cloud Oak,". Riverstorm commanded.

The cats left the camp, Oakpaw and Leafpaw playing like kits.

"River- Riverstorm!" Ashstar called.

The blue tom hurried over. "What happened?"

I got another prophecy today," the tabby leader told her deputy.

"What was it about?" The blue furred tom replied.

"Walk with me," she mewed.

Ashstar explained that the prophecy was mainly the same, "But there was one part that was a bit different," she concluded.

"What was it?" Riverstorm asked.

"Listen closely," Ashstar meowed. "A crow will fly at dawn, innocent and immortal, but don't let your clan stop it's fight, or dawn shall turn to endless night."

"I wonder what that is supposed to mean," the deputy replied, his brows furrowing and his blue tail flicking.

Ashstar nodded. "Neither do I! Silverblaze is just so vague! But I have a feeling it has to do with Crowpaw and Dawnpaw."

"That's insane," the deputy meowed firmly. "Those apprentices? How can they have a prophecy? They were kits only a few days ago!"

"What else could it be?" Ashstar fired back. "Are you doubting StarClan?"

"No, I just think it might be a bit more literal, or the crow could symbolize something else!" Riverstorm argued.

Ashstar sighed. "Well, we'll see. But we have worse matters on our paws."

She hurried towards the rest of her warriors, where Feathershine was waiting.

"Let's go investigate that scent!" she mewed, and Feathershine, Ashstar, and Tigertooth raced out of camp.

Ashstar trotted to the tree that Feathershine had found the scent mark on with the rest of her patrol, and sniffed it.

Her eyes narrowed.

"It smells like Moonlight," she whispered.

Feathershine rushed forward. "Wait, what?"

Feathershine's eyes widened as she sniffed it harder. "It's definitely her," she rasped, pain in her eyes.

Ashstar remembered she was Moonlight's mother.

"Maybe she is still around here?" Tigertooth suggested. "I mean, like after we banished her."

"No, duh!"Feathershine meowed, suddenly filled with attitude.

Ashstar looked at her in shock, cats weren't usually this rude around her.

Feathershine sighed and shuffled her paws. "Sorry, continue."

Ashstar turned back to the marker. "I hope she gets off the territory soon. She's probably not a rouge, though. Let's go home," she concluded with a sigh.

Ashstar was deep in thought the way home, thinking about the day's activities. The prophetic dream was vague and odd, and Moonlight's scent was making her kind of scared. Ashstar curled up, her eyes clouded, and fell asleep.

Sorry this is a little shorter than usual, I'll have longer ones soon!
