Chapter 10
Riverstorm watched as Needlepaw seethed while sitting a few fox-lengths away from her siblings. She was glaring at them, obviously jealous and angry that they had passed with flying colors and she hadn't been able to take the test.
Riverstorm tried not to laugh, there was something so hilarious about the she-cat's anger. It was so over-the-top and exaggerated, like she was waiting for someone to take pity on her. She sighed loudly, fumed on the top of her lungs, and stomped her paws so hard that anyone around her would stop and look. But no one really paid too much attention to the moody she-cat. If someone looked at her, they would just flick their tails or twitch their whiskers. The only time cats would pay attention to her was when they wanted a little laugh, as she always seemed to be putting on a show.
Riverstorm moved his attention to Ashstar, who was rapidly padding towards him
"Riverstorm! We have to choose who will go to the gathering! We have until sun-high!" The leader meowed.
"Right," Riverstorm mewed. "I nearly forgot! How about Firesong, Jayfoot, Sandwisker, Cloudpelt, Petalstripe, Stormheart, Oakpaw, Dawnpaw, Crowpaw, Leafpaw, Gingerpaw, Needlepaw, Woodshadow, and Feathershine."
Ashstar furrowed her brow. "That's a lot of cats, so Needlepaw and Cloudpelt should stay at camp, especially since Needlepaw broke the warrior code."
Needlepaw whipped her head around furiously at these words, but said nothing.
Riverstorm nodded and got ready to take out a hunting patrol, consisting of Mapleshade, Bearthorn and Lemonheart.
"Ready?" he asked. "We're hunting by the Cloud Oak today."
Bearthorn nodded. "There should be some prey there."
They each split up once they got to the tree.
The cats were able to gather enough fresh-kill by sun-high, but now they were a bit late. They rushed back to the camp and saw Ashstar and the warriors glaring at them.
"Where have you been? I told you we had to be there at sun-high!" Ashstar growled. "Look at it now! It's almost past then!"
Riverstorm's head hung low. "I'm very sorry, Ashstar, we lost track of time," he meowed, ashamed.
"I don't give a mouse-tail, get over here, we have to go now!" the tabby leader replied.
Riverstorm gathered with the other cats around Ashstar as she began to glow. As they began to leave Riverstorm caught a glimpse of Needlepaw, who was fuming and looked as if she was about to burst with anger. He chuckled and stepped into the light.
The brightness temporarily blinded him, and he stumbled out into a clearing. When his scenes regained he saw the other Clans waiting impatiently for them.
"Finally!" muttered Rootstar, the leader of GoldenClan.
"What took you so long!" asked Sunstar.
"Sorry, our hunting party lost track of time," Ashstar meowed, quickly glancing at Riverstorm. "But we are here now and that is what matters."
Ashstar continued, "With that we shall go-"
"First!" Firestar from Thunderclan interrupted.
He shared a glance with Leopardstar, Blackstar, and Onestar - the other Clan leaders.
He sighed, "This isn't working for us, we aren't cut out for magic. We have decided to continue on in our journey to find a new home, and we thank you for your hospitality."
The orange tom and the other leaders bowed their heads and let the magic seep out.
"We have our own StarClan, filled with our own ancestors, and they await us somewhere else." Leopardstar concluded.
"Thank you for staying here," Ashstar said with a nod of her head.
Suddenly a ginger-furred cat from MarbleClan leaped forward.
"And I'll go with them," she said.
"Yellowleaf?" Sundance asked. "What do you mean, you'll go with them? You're a MarbleClan cat!"
Yellowleaf glanced sorrowfully at her leader, then at the knot of ThunderClan cats.
"I'm sorry, but my heart belongs to Brackenfur."
She turned towards the ThunderClan cats, walked towards the tom, and intertwined tails with him.
"Goodbye," she said, and the four Clans left forever.
Sunstar lowered her tail. "Okay then. Ashstar, you can start, I guess."
"As for SilverClan, we are doing well, soon our apprentices will become warriors. Also there is less prey and due to the cold, but we are surviving." Ashstar said, her fur prickling.
The rest of the meeting went by with a blur.
Lazerpaw was now Lazertalon, but that was the only other thing Riverstorm picked up.
As they portaled home, Riverstorm was still lost in his thoughts.
It has been getting colder, I hope we don't lose a lot of prey. What about whitecough, or worse, greencough? We only have one kit, what if he dies like his sister?
Riverstorm shook away those thoughts, what good would worrying do, they were yet to have a new batch of warriors either way.
