Broken?

Cho and Theodore stood at the back of the library in front of a table. Two of the occupants were not pleased to say the least. Theodore stood one step behind Cho fearing the outcome of the conversation about to take place.

"So... am we have some information for you." Theodore said softly.

There was a displeased growl that was quickly followed by a smack. Theodore bit the inside of his cheek to keep from smiling. Thinking the others didn't notice, but one did.

"We'll hear you out and keep them from doing anything while you explain, but don't think we're taking your part."

Theodore gulped. "Y...yeah. Cho?"

Cho nodded. She began explaining what they had done. Theodore was showing the others the books they used. They were both a little surprised that the group found what they did in only 3 days.

"So that's it?"

Cho and Theodore nodded.

"You're coming with us."

"Blaise baby don't scare them off. At least they came to us now while Harry and Draco are working through the incident together."

"Sorry Mione, but I'm with Blaise. Harry and Draco wouldn't be in this situation if..."

"Dean darling shut the hell up. Let's go to Severus and tell him what we know."

They all nodded and left the library. The walk to the dungeons was deadly quiet. Dean and Blaise walked behind Theodore and Cho who were following Hermione and Pansy. When they reached Snap's class it was lunchtime. Pansy and Hermione gave Snape a brief explanation of what they were told and what they had found.

Neville and Seamus told everyone what they had found out about why Harry and Draco had been looking so horrible. Cho almost started crying from the amount of guilt she felt. Theodore offered to help in anyway he could. That unfortunately earned him multiple slaps over the head from Pansy, Hermione and Seamus. Each keeping their respective partners away from causing any more physical harm than what was needed.

Broken Bonds - Soulmates

As mentioned in previous sections this is a severe outcome of a soulmate bond. Let's first address when this happens. Over the years since the founders of Hogwarts there have been less wizards and/or witches who have conducted the ritual to find ones soulmate. This is not a major issue. However not many couples are happy together while others are more than happy. This has come as a result of many soulmate bonds being broken without the knowledge of both or one party.

While magical folk can live happily without their soulmate they can never feel complete. What happens in most cases is that the soul bond is broken due to lengthy periods of time without each other. Once the bond is broken happiness can be found in a relationship with whomsoever although, as mentioned, there will always be the feeling of something missing.

This extends into other aspects of ones life. Sometimes the bond will remain causing the witches and/or wizards to never find happiness without each other. Furthermore this result can happen when one party is aware of who their soulmate is, but the soulmate does not recognize them as their better half. The soulmate usually ends up in a separate relationship in which they create a false happiness. When this happens the knowing party unwillingly sacrifices their happiness for that of their mates.

The most severe of cases when it comes to the soulmate bond would be death. Where a witch and/or wizard will die due to their bond being broken. Three cases of this occurring have been recorded to date. The rejection of the mate causes a major depression leading to degraded health and eventually death of one or both parties.

Death cases are more likely to happen after an unintentional mating. However, the loop holes of an incomplete mating may allow for both parties to survive. If the mating ritual has taken place without the knowledge of the mates and a mutual rejection is agreed upon, both parties may go on to lead happy lives. If an unintentional mating has occurred and neither parties reject the bond may last several weeks before it risks being broken.

When a bond forces itself to be completed both parties may undergo major issues if verbal rejection is not made. This may lead to a painful breaking of the bond and death. The effects will not be immediate however over several weeks both parties will appear deteriorated and dead. They may become hollow shells before they finally die.

A bond may also be broken if the spirit animal of the witch or wizard rejects the mate. This has only been recorded once.

Other references to broken bonds can be found under their respective categories.

All that was heard in the room was heavy breathing, almost wheezing. Emerald green eyes bore into icy grey eyes. Then there was a crack followed by a breathless huf. As a fist made contact with someone's ribs. There was the sound of a slap. Both boys fell to the ground with a grunt of pain.

"We need... to stop... doing this..."

"Go... fuck... yourself."

"I'd rather... fuck you..."

A slap echoed through the room. It was closely followed by a painful whine. Nothing more was said or done. Both boys fell asleep on the floor where they were. Both exhausted from the magical pull they were trying to resist. Their little energy wasted on the fights between them.

It had been a couple of days since they were locked in the room. Neville or Seamus would enter for 5 minutes to just give them food. Usually they would be asleep or too tired to do anything. However the food was hardly touched.

"I deserve this you know."

"Shut up Malfoy."

"Back to last names Potter. Thought we were making progress here." Draco tisked.

Harry grunted and sat up. "I hate you."

Draco shrugged. "But do you really?"

"Shouldn't we be worried about the fact that they are going to beat each other to death before their bond kills them?"

"They stay there until the end of the week."

"Professor they haven't been eating."

"I'm well aware Longbottom." Snape drawled.

Neville nodded. "About the soul thingy..."

Snape sighed. "No Longbottom. I believe you have class just now."

"Potions Professor." Neville said.

Snape grunted. He knew what Neville wanted to ask. He didn't want to answer Neville and was secretly hoping the boy would have to leave. It was only Thursday now and Sunday could not come fast enough. Neville had been trying to ask the same question since Tuesday.

"Nev. He's not going to answer you."

"Worth a try though. Since Blaise, Dean, Hermione and Pansy are still researching. Don't you want to know the answer too Seamus?" Neville said.

"I do. But it's the dungeon bat we're talking about here. He's only ever been soft towards Harry." Seamus smiled slightly.

Snape grumbled as he moved to his board and started to write. He did not want to trap himself. He knew that's what Seamus was trying to do. Secretly he thanked Draco for his sneaky ways because this was how Draco had trapped him in the past. The class started to fill as he finished up the notes.

What no one was expecting was an explosion. The board shattered and pieces went flying. Snape quickly repaired it and marched to the locked door. He banged on it a couple times to silence the duo inside. He had, up until this point, been the only one that knew the consequences of the fights between the two stubborn boys. It had become an indicator to him that they were awake. Nothing else happened for the rest of the day between the two, which he was happy for.
