Chapter Ten

Rey and her ladies were in the women's drawing room where no men were allowed all coming up with scheme for Rey to entice Ben and get him to want her.

"So I swapped out his book for Oliver Twist" Gwen explained "he hated it when we saw a play of it"

"Also I put only one blanket in the carriage. And he always sits facing the driver, so say your road sick so you can sit next to him" Jessika said.

"Not to mention" Gwen began "I convinced the driver to take the longer route"

"Thank you all so much" Rey said thankfully, she heard the doors open and Leia walked in, her own ladies following behind her.

"Audrey dear" Leia said "I just said goodbye to my son, I'm leaving for the Naboo Palace, it's getting extremely rocky on the road there. But I will be back for the Jewel Jubilee in a handful of weeks, goodbye my dear, hopefully we'll have a baby on the way" Leia said and hugged Rey gently.

-
Rey say with her back to the driver and had her knitting in her hands. Her warm blue cloak on and a pair of dark brown leather gloves, a gift from Gwen, and a pair of warm heeled boots. Her dress was warm yet she still was chilly.

She saw the door opened and Ben came in and knocked on the glass to tell the driver to go.

He looked ridiculously small in the carriage. His long limbs seemed scrunched up and his broad shoulders seemed to take up most of the space near him. His head nearly was at the top of the carriage.

He was cramped even with his feet against the bottom of her seat. He reached for his book in the basket and then grabbed his glasses case.

"I didn't know you wore glasses my lord" Rey said as she started knitting the purple blanket, a gift for Jessika and Poe's baby.

"Oh, yes only for reading, and you don't have to say my lord, I'm your husband we're equals" he said.

That was the most her husband had ever said to her. "What book are you reading?" She asked.

"Oliver Twist, although I could have sworn I put in Tess I'd D'ubervilles" he said looking at the cover.

"Must I'd been a mistake" Rey said, who was she kidding she knew it wasn't.

"I suppose to, I dread Dickens" he said closing the book.

"Me too" she said as she looked down to her knitting "my tutor made me read Great Expectations and I tried to get my horse to eat it" she told him.

"What are you knitting" he asked.

"A blanket for Jessika and Poe, we don't know the gender so I wanted it to be something a baby girl or baby boy could use, and I found this lovely soft purple yarn and I thought it was perfect" she explained to him.

"Most noble women prefer embroidery" he said.

"I'm not like most noble women" she said with a smile.

"You're not" he said back, his eyes looking kind and not spiteful. "Who taught you to knit, that's more of a poor women's pastime"

"Maz, a nurse, she spent more time with me than anyone else, I asked her to teach me one day and I liked it so much" she told him.

"Why do you like knitting?" He asked.

"I don't know quite honestly" she looked down at the yarn "I like to use my hands, drawing, knitting, painting, sketching, riding horses, shooting a bow and arrow"

"Bow and arrow?" He asked.

"My father's favorite sport, he used to take me to the stables and practice" she said. "What's your hobby?" She asked.

"I don't have one Audrey"

"Everyone has one, something they do when they're bored or to unwind" she replied. "And call me Rey, all my family and friends do"

"Well Rey" he began, her name rolled off his tongue perfectly "I don't have one, and in that respect call me Ben" he smiled gently.

"Of course you do, Ben" she looked up at him through her thick lashes.

"Hm" he thought aloud "I do enjoy sword fighting, I've beat almost all the men at court, the rest I just haven't spared with" he replied "and I do enjoy a good book"

"Everyone likes a good book, what else?" She asked.

"I do like to write" he said.

"Like short stories and novels ?" Rey asked.

"No" he laughed gently, his laugh was warm, not the fake laugh he would do when his mother tried to joke around with him. "Like calligraphy" he said.

"Really?" Rey asked, she was intrigued to say the least.

"Oh yes, I take one of my quills or pens, dip it in ink, use my magnifying glass and write" Ben told her.

"Maybe you could write for me sometime" she said "even something simple, like my name"

"Only if you knit me something" he smiled, his grin was large and toothy, a grin with real emotion, not something fake for a crowd or his mother.

"It's a deal" she smiled. He liked her smile, sweet and bubbly, just like her.

"Deal" he said reaching out his hand.

She grabbed ahold of his and they shook, electricity shot up her hands into her arms to her heart.

They looked in one another's eyes deeply, he could see the green flecks in her eyes.

He noticed the long black lashes that seemed to be longer than any women's he had ever seen, a gently kohl line was swept on her eyelid. The inner corner of her eye seemed lighter than the rest.

Their hands were still touching whne the carriage came to an stop. Shaking them both and their hands loosing contact.

"Your graces" the driver said "we're here"

"Oh, alright" Ben said straighten up his relaxed mood to reflect something strict and stoic. "I'll meet you at the carriage in two hours" he said as the foot hand opened the door for them to exit.
