A Reply To A Book That Needs To Be Updated

I am talking about this paragraph that I found in an actual published english guide for students.

So, before going on a rant about the ridiculousness of this paragraph , I wanted to give more details about this situation.

This is an example of how to write a debate from the guide and the topic for the debate was " Women Drivers in public transport can be successful as men".

Don't get me wrong here, there was an entire paragraph written in favour of the motion but this is not the problem. The fact that such a thing still is in question or is open for debate astounds me. How is the capability of all women drivers open for debate when this isn't the case for men?

I have never heard a debate on if men should be driving public transports and there wasn't an example of that in this guide, then why this?

I would understand if someone raises an argument that because women started driving later and men have been traditionally trained for the job. But I would also expect them to understand that, that was fifty years ago and to bring up such an argument is just irrational.

Now, both the genders get trained in driving and can gain experience the same way.

Women are and should be equal to men and it is about time everyone accepts it.

Moving forward to the arguments given in the paragraph.

The line 'as successful as men' me more, really? In 2012, a rape happened in a public transport in Delhi and the driver kept driving the bus, well ,that is very  'successful' and 'mentally ready' of him to do.

I am not saying that all men are bad drivers , I am saying that all women aren't bad drivers and if they should be driving public transport or not ,shouldn't be in question or up for a debate.

There are both men and women who are bad drivers. Let's just stop stereotyping the genders. It is not that every guy is an incarnation of a mechanic and every girl is just shit at driving.

The harsh reality of this is that there must be women who tried and applied for jobs as drivers in public transport and had to hear all of these arguments and were denied. It would be worse if they believed that these things were actually true because their surroundings conditioned them so.

It is just irritating that this what children have to read and it scares me that they might even believe it.
I

will accept debates on such topics the day there are debates with topics like " Men Drivers in public transport can be as successful as women or any other gender".

I just wish to initiate conversation and not hatred among people.

If you have another idea that you want to chat about or have something to add or share regarding this topic- Do comment and tell me!
