A reply to the comment on a video where a woman opens up about the assault she faced when she was in India.
The comment:
My response:
I am not trying to be rude and I understand the gravity of the situation. I understand that rape culture is prevalent in India as it is prevalent in many other countries.
From your comment, I see you blaming the entire nation's population for the act of disgusting, horrible and weak people that are unfortunately a part of the population.
I understand and I am aware that the happenings are threatening, disgusting and violent and they should never happen to anyone and those guilty deserve the highest levels of punishment.
Consent is very important and a lot of people in the world haven't learnt this lesson, which is really troubling.
I do not write this comment to defend the pride of India because any day that an incident like this happens, which is quite frequent, India is ashamed, but I still would like to urge you, to find it in yourself,to not blame an entire race of people for the acts of the predators, that in no way should exist or should be representing India.
I understand such experiences make it very difficult to not judge and it is very right to be enraged and demand for a better life for men and women suffering at the hands of these predators because everyone deserves to feel safe and live freely. It is sad that conditions in the world aren't that fortunate.
I believe that NO women, from whatever part of the world, is a slut and no one should find it in themselves to judge another person on any basis and call them a slut or insult them.
Feminists , and here I go by the definition written in political science NCERT textbooks, ' A woman
or a man who
believes in equal rights
and opportunities for
women and men.' and there is no shame in being a person who believes in equality for all genders.
Any men or women who develop an aversion to equality for all have very different beliefs in life.
All women are beautiful inside and out, it is all about how they find the confidence in themselves to accept that.I truly can't understand degrading the women of one race for uplifting the women of another. We are women and we all are people, we must look out for each other.
Lastly, war leads to bloodshed and loss, no country deserves to be nuked. It kills civilians and innocent people. It leads to unnecessary bloodshed and believing in war wouldn't lead humanity anywhere.
I feel truly sorry for anyone who had to get through such an incident of assault.I feel such people who feel that they have the power to do such things don't deserve any humanity and must atone for their sins in the cruelest of ways. I don't condone violation of anyone.
I hope you understand my point of view and it is completely fine , if you don't.People normally have different views of world and I am fine with it.
A/N-I would like if you all tell me your thoughts on this general issue. I want to encourage open conversations about such issues and try and erase such boundaries!
