Book 1 Part 3: Christ is everything
So often, people face doubt in their salvation. They doubt often due to unconfessed sin or a lack of understanding.
That's not the main issue. A great man of God once said, "If you never have doubted your salvation, I doubt if you are saved." The issue is found in where people look for assurance.
For the beliver, Christ is everything, and to make ourselves something is nothing short of idolatry. We say we know we are Christian because we said a prayer one time in our lives to ask Christ into our hearts. We rely on a prayer we said instead of the promises of God.
Missionaries say they wish to go out into the fields to save people when they haven't even considered that they should go because somewhere, Christ is not being glorified as he should be.
What are the promises of God? That whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have every lasting life. Is God a liar? Salvation has never been based on our own performance. If it was, we'd be in Hell. The only thing we contribute to our salvation is the sin that makes it necessary.
Look not at yourself for assurance. Look to Christ. Look not to men for purpose. Look to Christ. Christ is everything. If He isn't, then there is something terribly wrong.
God has promised that if He has started a good work in us, He will complete it. Study and know the attributes of God. Be in secret prayer. Don't spend time in useless prayer meetings where believers spend more time giving requests than in prayer, pray harder to keep dying saints out of Heaven than to keep dying men out of Hell, and promise they will pray for things they never think about again for the rest of their lives.
Christ and His finished work should be enough to propel a Christian for an infinite amount of ministry and piety. Live for Christ, not for man.
