Chapter 6 - The Third Sector

Tw: mentions of alcohol and fire. If I ever forget to put a trigger here, let me know!
Sorry for the small time skip.

Logan's PoV

The duke continued to invite me to do activities with them for a few weeks. Mostly movie nights, but we did other things too. We sat at cherry hill a few times, and I listened to Remus talk. He also listened to me, even though I knew he struggled to keep his focus on what I was saying. The fact he even made the effort to listen was enough. It was more than what the others gave me.

The deceitful trait remained distant in an emotional way. But also physically since he was usually only ever with us at movie nights. He was hard to understand honestly. He wasn't necessarily mean, but he wasn't all that friendly either. I couldn't help but wonder if that was how the others saw me too.

Today, Remus invited me over to sit on cherry hill again. But on the way there, I became curious of the hedge that seemed to line the other edge of this section. It seemed inconvenient to place this section in the middle if either side was the same. So was it a different sector?

"Hey, Jan! We're headin' up to the hill, wanna come?" Remus asked Janus when we got to his garden. He was sitting under the same tree as the first time I came. He was reading a book with a glass of wine.

"I think I'd like to read my book here instead. But thank you for the offer, Dear."

"Okie-dokie! Imma steal a drink before I go. Yes or no on the alcohol, Lo?"

"No thank you." I shook my head.

"Be back then!" Remus ran inside. I found my gaze drifting in the direction of the other hedge. I couldn't see it from here, but I knew it was there.

"Logan, why do you spend so much time with Remus?" My thoughts were interrupted by Janus speaking. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"I...genuinely enjoy his company? But if I'm causing problems in your relationship, I won't spend so much time with him." I answered.

"No problems... I just don't understand why. Why you, a light side, like to be around us dark sides. Do the others even know of your visits?"

"They do not know, but that's only because it's never been brought up."

"Surely they've noticed you leaving so often. Wouldn't those nosy light sides want to know what you're up to?" There was definitely irritation in his tone. I looked away to the ground and felt my muscles move into a frown.

"Stole some drinks, Jay, including a ginger ale for Logan since that was the only non-alcoholic drink you had." Remus came out with a few cans and bottles hugged to his chest. He looked between us before pouting at Janus. "Heeyyy..."

"I'm sorry, Love, I didn't mean to upset him. I just got a little carried away..." Janus frowned.

"I am not upset." I shook my head, frown turning back into my usual neutral face

"Well, one of you is lying and it ain't Deceit." Remus smiled in a goofy manner, "That's okay though. I won't make ya talk about it! But if you wanna, I'll listen. Your call. Let's go to the hill now! See ya later, Gay-nus!"

On top of the hill, I could barely see the hedge in the distance. But I kept my focus on Remus who was talking about his pets. It was hard to stay focused on him with curiosity being my weakness though. "You should meet them sometime! I'm sure they'd love you!"

"I would like that." I nodded, eyes drifting towards the hedge again.

"So what's on your mind? You keep lookin' over there." My gaze snapped back to Remus as he spoke again. He pointed in the direction of the hedge.

"Oh... Well, I was wondering if there was another section to your Imagination. I noticed the hedge on the other side when I was following you earlier."

"Yeah..." Remus mumbled, frowning. He looked at the grass and picked at the blades.

"I apologise, I didn't intend to upset you."

"No, no! It's okay!" Remus snapped his head up, "We just... Just... Um. I'll show you."

Remus stood up and held a hand out for me. I was quite capable of standing on my own but knew it was a nice gesture. I took his hand and allowed him to pull me to my feet. Remus was silent as we walked except for his humming. I wondered if going someplace that had made Remus remain silent was a good place to go. But curiosity kept me walking beside him. Soon, we were at the hedge. Remus hesitated before clapping his hands. An archway formed with seemingly nothing on the other side except darkness. Remus grabbed my wrist and pulled me through.

The other side was lit up mostly by fire. The Pink Palace from Coraline was in the distance on my right, the roof on fire. Straight ahead was Halloween Town from Nightmare Before Christmas. Well, what was left of it. To the left, there seemed to be multiple movie and anime sets mixed into one. Most of it was on fire too. I knew who this was meant for. It was for Virgil.

"When Virgil left, I..." Remus spoke for the first time in a while, "I did this. I destroyed what I created for him. But I couldn't bring myself to erase it. In case... In case he came back... I know he's not coming back though. I've tried and tried to talk to him. He's changed... He's not the same Virgie anymore."

"I never really thought about what his acceptance would do to you." I placed a hand on his shoulder, "I suppose I assumed you wanted him to leave."

"We wanted better for him, but it still hurt like hell." Remus sniffled, "We never thought he'd actually leave. We were happy... I thought..."

"So that's why you don't talk about him often?" I voiced my thought aloud, even though I knew the answer.

"Yeah. Janus especially has a hard time. I sometimes forget his betrayal, but Janus remembers. He refuses to even talk about Virgil anymore. It just...hurts..." Remus sighed and hugged himself, frowning at the ground.

"I didn't realize... I can talk to Virgil if you want?"

"And tell him what? We miss him?" Remus shook his head, "Wouldn't matter. Like I said, he's changed."

"Well, I'll still try."

"It won't do any good...but thanks." Remus looked up, staring at the destruction. "Hey, isn't- It is!"

Remus bounced and turned to me, clapping excitedly. I blinked a few times, surprised by the sudden mood change. "I just got an awesome idea! I'll need Jay's permission for it, but it'll be so cool! Come on!"

I more than likely won't be able to publish another chapter on Friday because I'll be stuck with my parents up camping. Sooo as soon as we get back I'll post the next chapter.
