Roleplay Day 3

(this one's a bit long since we roleplayed all day.  Word count = 1965)

K: UPA looked over at the group with an unimpressed expression, clicking his tongue slightly as he rolled his eyes.

"Go ahead and break his arm." He muttered under his breath before turning his attention back to Mandara. "ah, I kinda miss aerial duels, my brother and I used to do them a lot for fun when we were young." He trailed off slightly at the end as he sighed and shook his head slightly.

M: Mandara noticed UPA's change in tone at the end of that sentence, but didn't press for questions since it sounded like a sensitive topic.

"Me too, Thunder was always better at it since his wings have better maneuverability than mine." he stated, then he instinctively flicked his left-wing before sighing, "I kind of miss flying in general."

K: "I was already better than my brother for that same reason, his wings are designed for soaring."  He said as he stretched his arms slightly. "Why? Do you not fly much?" He asked out of curiosity.

M: Mandara looked down, wishing he never said that, but it was too late now, so he let out a drawn-out sigh before explaining,

"S-Sort of, back during my war with Ussr I was captured by him.  One day I tried to escape but failed and when Ussr found out he-" Mandara paused for a second, the painful memories making it hard to talk, but he took another deep breath and kept going.

"H-He b-broke both my wings.  I was fortunate enough to not lose them when I was finally rescued, b-but they never completely healed.  To this day I can't fly as fast as I used to, and it hurts if I fly for too long, so I don't." Once he was finished, he wiped his eye from the tears that were starting to form, "S-Sorry, I shouldn't be crying."

K: UPA frowned, regretting the fact he had asked.

"I'm sorry to hear that, I can't imagine and I shouldn't have asked.  I've had my own run-ins with USSR, well I was fighting against him so it was inevitable.  I didn't lose my wings but I lost other things to him." He sighed, glancing down at his lap for a moment before continuing. "My brother is in a similar situation as you, a long time ago his wings got clipped, he wasn't able to fly for a few years and never regained the same strength or muscle mass." He then slowly got up and walked over to the country, placing a hand on his shoulder, "it's okay to cry, I'm sorry for bringing this up."

M: Mandara flinched when UPA touched him but didn't try to move away, he just said, "It's ok, you didn't know." He took a few minutes to calm himself down before he got up too, "I-I'm going to get some fresh air, I'll be right back," then left without waiting for a response.

K: UPA sighed and shook his head, mentally scolding himself for asking too many questions.  He had never been social and lacked social skills, usually just sticking to the two people he was the closest to.  He walked in the opposite direction, slipping into an empty sitting room off to the side, sitting on the couch to get away from all the commotion and noise.

"Idiot, the one time someone new actually talks to you, you screw it up." He grumbled to himself, shaking his head slightly.  He then pulled up his shorts a bit, fumbling with the straps of his prosthetic before sliding it off since it was starting to get uncomfortable and hot.

M: Mandara walked onto a balcony, breathing in the evening air as he stepped closer to the railing.  After a moment of standing there, he looked around to make sure no one else was nearby and slowly undid the straps of his eyepatch.  He opened his blind eye as he took it off and put it in his uniform pocket.  He then looked up at the orange and pink sky and let out a small sigh, it had been years since the last time he flew and his conversation with UPA got him really missing it.  He thought back to what UPA said about being better at aerial duels.

"His wings kind of remind me of mine," he said to himself, half opening them to look at them better, "I wonder if we have the same type?"

Just then the wind picked up a bit, making Mandara instinctively spread out his wings to catch it.  Then, without really thinking about it, he took off into the sky.

K: UPA stretched his wings out, letting them drape over the back of the couch as he looked up at the ceiling.  He stayed like that for a while before deciding to get up, wanting to apologize for asking such a personal question.  He stood up, easily staying balanced on his leg, using his opposite wing for counterbalance, slightly opening and closing it in small movements to maintain balance.  After years of practice he had no troubles getting around on one leg, he walked over to a window, glancing out of it as he yawned softly.

M: 'I forgot how great this feels' Mandara was thinking as he soared through the sky, he wasn't flapping his wings too much, just gliding on the air currents.   His wings weren't really built for soaring, but it was the only way he could fly without tiring his wings out too fast.  After gliding for a bit, he got a sudden urge to go faster, he knew this was a bad idea since he could only last so long in the air, but his primal side was stronger so he quickly picked up the pace, trying to see how fast he could go.

K: UPA caught a glimpse of the other and found himself sliding the window open, clumsily falling out of the window before opening his wings, giving them a few strong beats as he rose in the air. He simply watched the country for a moment before making his way over.  He was slightly off-balance due to the difference in weight from one side to the other, but he had adapted to fly with one wing stretched out further than the other for balance. "Mind if I join you?" UPA shouted as he got closer to the other, quickly picking up speed.

M: Mandara jumped when he heard someone yell at him, to the point where he stopped flapping his wings and fell a bit.  He quickly caught himself and hovered in midair, looking for who said that and eventually spotted UPA.   He waved and said, "sure."

While waiting for the militant to catch up he noticed a small sore appearing in his right-wing, which meant that he was going to have to land soon.   He silently cursed at himself and was going to tell the other that he was landing, but as UPA flew closer he decided to just tough it out.  It had been so long since he has flown with somebody that he wasn't going to miss this opportunity.

K: UPA slightly smiled when he heard the other's response, quickly catching up before angling his wings so they caught the wind, quickly slowing down.  He had a bit of trouble hovering though, his wings weren't designed for slower flight so it took quite a bit of effort for him.

M: Once UPA had caught up, Mandara wasted no time in taking off in a general direction. Although his mind told him to go fast, he made sure to not so the other could keep up since he didn't know how fast he could go.

K: UPA easily kept up with the Mandara.  He was used to traveling at high speeds, his shorter stature and light bodyweight making it easier for him to travel faster, though he'd admit Kazakhstan could outfly him in a race. "Just on a leisurely flight?" He asked as he flew next to the country.

M: Mandara stared at him for a minute then shot him a challenging look, "Depends, how fast can you fly?"  It had been a while since he raced anyone and he was feeling a bit competitive.

K: He couldn't help but smirk, raising an eyebrow as he looked at the other.

"Why? Ya wanna find out?" He said in a challenging tone.

M: Mandara smiled back and shot off without warning, leaving his opponent in the dust.  He knew he was gonna get told off for the false start but he didn't care, he wasn't one for playing fair when it came to racing, especially ones against his brother.

K: He chuckled at the action and quickly raced after Mandara, but instead of going straight he started to climb higher into the sky, using the wind to his advantage.  Once he decided he was high enough he angled down, using the wind and a slight angle to quickly pick up speed.

M: Mandara looked back behind him to see how close UPA was, only to find him absent.  He was confused at first but then saw a shadow pass over above him, he looked up to see his opponent up high and gaining ground.  He knew what he was doing so he too flew higher before UPA could pick up much speed.  Once he was in front of him again he called over his shoulder,

"Nice try, but that is one of my brother's oldest tricks, better luck next time!" Mandara then tried a trick of his own and made a sharp right turn to throw the other off-balance.

K: He laughed at the Mandarian's comment "well that isn't my only trick up my sleeve!" He shouted with a laugh.  UPA then saw the other pull a sharp turn, quickly angling his wings to turn as well, feeling the wind rip around his wings.  He had missed this feeling, it had been a long time since he had raced like this.  He then changed the angle of his wings, gaining more speed as he used all his strength.

M: Mandara looked back again as his opponent was gaining on him. He was surprised, he expected the sharp turn to catch him off guard but it didn't.  Mandara then started to breathe heavier as he was tiring out, he was out of practice and his wings were starting to hurt.  He tried to fight it but he inadvertently started to slow down until he was practically touching wings with UPA.

K: UPA smirked as he saw the other starting to slow down, "getting tired?" He said as he started to pass the country, letting himself slow down ever so slightly.

M: Mandara scowled at him as he passed him, he didn't want to lose so he tried to give himself one last push to get in front, but he just couldn't do it, his wings hurt too much.  Suddenly there was a tearing feeling in his left-wing which left it almost completely numb, causing Mandara to shout in pain as he started to fall.

K: UPA's eyes widened and before he even thought he whipped around and folded his wings in tightly to his body, dropping after the country, trying to fall faster so he could possibly catch Mandara.

M: Mandara was panicking, desperately trying to flap his wings to regain flight, but he couldn't feel his wing at all.  He looked back at UPA and saw him diving towards him, so he reach out his hand and just closed his eyes and prayed that the militant was fast enough.  After what seemed like an eternity, he felt something grab his hand.
