Artificial Countryhuman Part 2
3 weeks later ...
"This is an outrage!" China roared.
"How could the humans do this to us, after everything we've done for them?" Canada asked.
"They should be punished, we can't let them get away with this," UK demanded.
"SILENCE!" UN shouted, flaring out his wings to bring everyone to attention.
The large meeting room fell silent as all the countryhumans gathered there ceased arguing and returned to their seats, UN returning to his once everyone else did. After the Mandarian's reported to him about the raid on a secret facility and what they discovered in it, UN called all the major world powers and any other country that could come to his headquarters in New York, those who were not able to make it tuned in virtually, this was not a meeting to miss if you're a countryhuman.
UN and his fellow Full-Time entities sat at the head of the room while the countries sat at tables around the perimeter of the room, any militant or special entities they brought with them simply stood against the walls. The countries were grouped at tables that represented the continents; North America, Aisa, South America, Africa, and Europe; Australia was allowed to sit with his brothers at the North American table, per his request, and Antarctica was one of the countries video calling.
Once everyone was back in their seats and calmed down, for the time being, UN said calmly, "Now, if I may, let us start over and continue this meeting professionally, alright," he waited for the entities to nod or say yes before continuing, "good. Now, before our little interruption, I was going to play the news story that Mandara had provided for us to bring everyone up to speed, so please remain silent until it ends, at which time we will discuss it, professionally."
UN picked up a remote and pressed a button, the windows were covered by automatic shades and a projector film rolled down on the other end of the room, everyone turned their attention to it as a clip of a Mandarian news station started playing.
There were two news anchors, a man and a woman, the anchorwoman reported first:
"Breaking News; a secret facility in the middle of a national park; the name of which we will not share to discourage the public from trespassing an active investigation scene, had been raided by the PSF under the suspicion of illegal activity, though our scores say what was found there was much worse."
"Indeed," the anchorman added, "Jeramy Norman, CEO of GenCon, a prominent genetic research company created to study genetic-based diseases, was arrested for trying to create an advanced race of countryhuman hybrids with the hopes of overthrowing the real ones. While Norman was unwilling to give any comments, interviews with both PSF agents and workers from the facility report that he was successful, an experiment dubbed 'Subject 6801' was reported to have been removed from the facility by Director Poldara and General Mandara Army."
"Neither the Director nor the General has come forth to confirm or deny these rumors, Mr. Mandara too refused to comment, however, there were several photos recovered that show Director Poldara leaving the facility holding, something-"
A picture popped up on the screen, it was of Poldara covering something up with his wings, though pink, purple, and blue feathers could be seen striking out of his. The Poldara present in the room shifted uncomfortably, his wings were in the same position of hiding something as in the photo, though this time he was also holding a large fluffy blanket along with something that it was covering up. He looked to MA standing next to him with worry, the militant smiled and rubbed his wing against his nephew's in reassurance, then they both were brought to attention when the video ended and the shades were rolled back up, signaling the end of the clip.
"Now, as you all saw, Director Poldara and General Mandara Army were able to storm the facility and shut down the operation before things could go too far," UN stated, "they have handed Mr. Norman to me, as well as his head scientist, Dr. Edward Harrison, the will be receiving the appropriate trials and sentencing for their crimes, however that brings us to the aftermath of their genetic meddling. Poldara if you may step forward please."
Poldara gulped as all heads turned to him, but he wordlessly walked to the front of the full-time entity table. He felt very small and helpless with all the eyes boring into him, it almost physically hurt as he felt their gazes in his back, but he held strong and blocked them out, only focusing on the full-time entities, which weren't any less intimidating.
There were the big four; UN, EU, NATO, and ASEAN, but there were others too, some he had met before like UN's sister, World Health Organisation, and BRICS. Then there were those he's never met; League of Arab States, African Union, Commonwealth of Independent States, and even World Trade Organisation, for some reason.
"Director Poldara, would you please show us what you found in that facility," UN said, "it could impact countryhumans in ways we could never imagine if it fell into the wrong hands."
"Oh, I highly doubt that," Poldara chuckled nervously, "right now she couldn't even hurt a fly."
"She?" ASEAN repeated.
Poldara nodded and moved his wings way to show the blanket he was holding, then he gently pulled down the blanket to reveal a sleeping child, her eyes blinked open from the brightness and her ears perked up. Gasps of shock and horror resonated through the room, Poldara held Adira a little tighter as his fellow countryhumans started murmuring amongst themselves. Adira was confused about what was going on, the number of people there was overwhelming and she still wasn't very used to being around countries after seven years of not knowing they existed. She whimpered and hid her face in Poldara's shoulder, he hushed her and patted her back reassuringly.
"Is that a countryhuman," Brazil asked.
"Not exactly," Poldara answered, "she was artificially created by the splicing of countryhuman and human DNA, a hybrid if you will."
"That's impossible, human and countryhuman genes don't mix," Greece said, "and for good reason, the children would just look weird."
"You're right Greece," Poldara agreed, "we aren't supposed to mix, and because of Norman's meddling, Adira isn't exactly the most normal-looking countryhuman."
Poldara unwrapped Adira from the blanket to show everyone her abnormalities, her four wings and feathered tail flinched as the blanket was removed, earning more gasps from the crowd.
"That is an abomination," LAS declared, "why did you let it live, that thing is a danger to our kind, it should be disposed of."
There were murmurs of agreement that came from a few countries, which angered Poldara down to the core.
"I'll have you know that this innocent little girl doesn't even understand what she is or what she was created for," he spat, "she was tortured and abused for seven whole years, she is underdeveloped to the point of being more animalistic than childish, for crying out loud, she doesn't even know how to walk or talk. She is not dangerous, she's just a child."
"A child that will grow up," EU said, "she may be innocent now but it won't stay that way, she will grow, and when she does it will be our undoing, that can not be allowed."
"She won't grow to be dangerous, and you won't lay a finger on her as long as I'm around," Poldara shouted, flaring out his wings, "none of you understand the hell she's been through, I don't even know the half of it, but I guarantee you it's much worse than anything you've all experienced. She is under my protection now, and I will not see her be killed just because she's different than everyone else."
"How dare you protect that thing," Georga shouted, "it was created to destroy us, I for one will not stand idly by and let you keep a bioweapon as a pet."
Several other countries shouted in agreement, throwing insults and threats at the two standing in the middle of the room. Adira was crying because of how scared she was and Poldara just stood in shock that his fellow countries were turning on him.
"Kill it, it's dangerous," Chad shouted
"You're a traitor, protecting something that will destroy us," Venezuela yelled
"It should have been destroyed the minute it was created," Laos exclaimed
"Maybe you should be disposed of along with the freak," Serbia declared
"EVERYONE SHUT UP!!!!" a voice barked from the door, a female voice that made some countries perk up and others cower in fear.
Poldara turned when he heard the familiar voice, shocked that the owner of it was even there, "Zalia?"
"Hello cousin, long time no see," Zalia smirked, walking up to him, "and how is my favorite niece doing?"
"Cunt," Adira said joyfully, reaching out for Zalia.
"Excuse me?" UN asked, shocked at the word the seven-year-old said, many other countries and entities sharing his expression.
"Zalia taught her to say that," Poldara explained with a grumble, "she thinks that's her name, and it's the main reason why I don't let her babysit anymore."
"You're just jealous that I taught her to speak and you couldn't," Zalia said smugly, "but that's not why I'm here. I had a feeling that things would derail in this little potluck so I decided to generously crash the party to aid my cousin in protecting his daughter from you narcissists."
"How dare you speak like that," EU spat, standing up with anger, "and what authority do you have to think you could make a difference to this situation."
"Enough authority to pass up offers to "permanently retire" you, Freakshow," Zalia calmly said, "your life hangs on me being in a good mood so if I were you I would watch what you say."
"You're bluffing," EU growled, though there was noticeable fear in his voice.
Zalia hummed at his words, then calmly walked up to the table and looked him eye to eye, her serious yet relaxed expression holding firm while the full-time entity looked like he was focusing every fiber in his body on not shitting his pants.
"Would you have the nerve to test if I'm bluffing," she challenged, speaking so quietly EU could hardly hear her, "go on then, say something insensitive, put me in my place and see what happens, surely the great and powerful European Union can talk down a lowly rogue, can't he?"
The two stared for a while, not moving or speaking until EU slowly sat back down, lowering his wings as a sign of submission while still not breaking eye contact. All the countryhumans there were shocked, EU never backed down from anything, let alone lower his wings in submission
"Well, I guess the big bad EU is not so big and bad after all," Zalia announced as she stepped away from the table, causing A few countries to applaud that she was able to talk down EU. Normally the full-time entity would have snapped at the clapping but his mind seemed to have shut down for the moment, remaining silent and looking down at his lap like a student who was called out by the teacher.
"Can you teach me how to do that," UK asked, though immediately grunted in pain when France smacked him across the head.
"Maybe some other time, Jack," the rouge said, the nickname referencing UK's Union Jack, "now back to business, you all are hell-bent on getting rid of Adira because she was made to replace us, but you have only seen one side of the story. News channels are great and all but they don't show the whole picture, and I have come to reveal my cousin's half of the story."
She walked back up to the table and stood in front of UN, she placed something on the table and slid it over to him. It was an SD card, the entity looked up to her in confusion and a silent message passed between them. Without saying a word, UN stood up, grabbed a laptop behind him, and put the card in, Zalia snatching his remote and turning the projector on.
"Mis. Zalia," UN said, "before I play this, can you at least tell us what it is?"
"Gladly," she agreed, "this is a series of video documentations that Edward Harrison recorded, videos recording several experiments conducted on Adira."
Poldara gasped, he knew about those videos, and the horrors they held, "Zalia what are you doing, we can't show them those, they are-"
"The only chance Adira's got to stay alive," Zalia interrupted, "if you don't want to watch them again then go wait outside, I'll bring you back in when it's finished."
Poldara opened his mouth to protest but NATO was the one who stopped him, "as much as I hate to say it, she's right, we can't make a fair judgment without all the evidence. You are welcome to take Adira and wait outside, we'll call you back in when we're ready to give a verdict."
The other full-time entities nodded in agreement so Poldara knew there was no point in arguing, so he sighed and said, "well, in that case, I wish you all luck in making it through all of them, there are twenty videos on that card I and I haven't even made it past number three, most of my agents faint at four and no one has made it past ten, so good luck."
Poldara turned and walked towards the door, nervous murmurs could be heard but he didn't look back, they were about to see the suffering Adira had been put through in the highest definition a handheld camera could record, and he hoped they felt every ounce of pain she did.
About an hour later, Poldara was in a nearby waiting room that had a bunch of kid toys in it, he was helping Adira with the toy that had the shape blocks go in the same shaped holes when Zalia came to bring them back to the meeting room.
"I think it's going well," she declared as they walked, "we managed to get through twelve videos before UN decided we had enough evidence, I think that's a new record."
"I don't care about a record, Zal," Poldara said, "I care about Adira, if they made it through twelve videos then they must not have been affected by them, right?"
Zalia smiled as they stood in front of the door, "you'd be surprised," was all she said when she opened the door.
The first thing Poldara noticed was there were fewer countries in the room, both in-person and face-timing. The second thing he noticed was the looks of horror, disgust, and sadness on the remaining people's faces, even the ones who were shouting at him earlier seemed at a loss for words.
"Poldara," UN said, though his voice sounded disturbed and like he would throw up at any second, "on behalf of everyone here and who was here previously, I want to apologize for misjudging Adira."
"Um, where is everyone else," the special entity asked, he had a guess but he wanted to make sure before jumping to conclusions.
"Recuperating after what we all witnessed," EU answered, sharing the same expression as his father, "I also speak for everyone when I say that we have never seen such inhumane actions before."
"I don't think anyone here will be able to sleep tonight," America piped up, several countries nodding in agreement.
"And on that note," UN said, "Poldara it is by unanimous decision, of the present full-time entities and countries, that you be officially granted guardianship of Adira."
Poldara blinked in shock, "really?"
"Yes, from here onward Adira is your responsibility, she is also under the protection of the United Nations, no one will harm her or else face international charges."
"Adira, you hear that," Poldara said excitedly, hugging the child tightly, "you get to stay with me, honey, and I promise to give you the best life possible."
"Dadda," Adira gurgled, also hugging him tightly.
Poldara felt his heart melt at the word she used, he started tearing up from it, "yes baby, I'm your dadda, I love you so much honey, so much."
This had to be the best day in his life, that morning he entered that meeting room a special entity, now he was leaving it the father of a little girl who needed him most. As he left with his fathers, uncles, aunt, and cousins, he was soo incredibly happy that one more member was added to their big, happy family.
The End
(For real this time, thank you all for reading Adira's story, I loved writing about her and I hope you loved reading her sad backstory, but fear not, she is definitely going to get the life she deserves. Thanks again, and see you in the next one)
