Asking the Same Question Part One
A/N: Okay. I have finally reached a decision. I have decided to put all of the little one-shots of "Trolls" I've been posting here on Wattpad, and put them into a separate collection. But they will still be separate on fanfiction.net.
Now, not all of these one-shots here in this story collection will have musical numbers involved, unlike my other collection, "Feeling the Love Tonight," but they are still pretty cute! At least for me! Let me know what you guys think about them.
I'm not sure if I will take suggestions for this collection, but if I do, I'll let you guys know. For now, let's get on with the start of "A Queen and Her Hero"!
Asking the Same Question
Part One
Trolls just wanna have....
Fun.
The way that his golden voice blended in so perfectly with hers, it was enough to give little pleasant chills down her spine. The pink Pop Troll queen just smiled fondly at her teal colored boyfriend of almost an entire eight months as she stared into his sky blue eyes, the depths so deep that she wouldn't mind at all if she never came back up for air as they stole the breath from her lungs.
When the song ended, she didn't let go of his hand and instead just wrapped her arms around his neck in a loving hug. He simply returned the loving gesture by putting his own warm, strong arms gently around her waist, holding her close to him. She wished that she could stay right there, within his protective and loving embrace forever and always.
Alas, both of them had quite a busy day ahead of them. Branch was the first one to release his hold and just smiled at Poppy, who had a slight pout of disappointment on her face, making him chuckle lightly at how adorable his girlfriend looked at the moment.
"Don't worry." He said to her softly so that no one would hear them in case if someone was eavesdropping on them.
Back when they had first announced their new relationship after the World Tour, a new favorite pastime of the Pop Trolls quickly became playfully teasing the power couple that everyone in the village had been waiting to happen ever since they saved them and made peace with the Bergens.
They would poke a little bit of fun at them, saying how cute they looked whenever they would hold hands or have their hair affectionately entwined together, or even when they would just be walking side by side with their arms lightly brushing against each other's occasionally. They would then laugh when they got flustered from the unnecessary attention or whenever one of them made an exceptionally flirty remark to the other in public, making them blush either a bright red or a dark lavender, and some of them would even go so far as to ask when the "big day" was.
However, Poppy and Branch soon came up with their own little countermeasure against the relentless but playful teasing of their people. Whenever they would be talking about their next date, or when one of them just wanted some alone time with their significant other, they would either come up with an inconspicuous codename for it or they would just whisper and be discreet.
In all honesty, Poppy liked it better whenever they would use codenames; it was one of the rare occasions when she would see Branch give her a playful smile or a teasing wink. Who knew that such a cautious and introverted Troll could also be so sneaky and mischievous?
"We still have time later in the afternoon." He said, a little sparkle in his eyes as he let go of her right arm and just trailed his other hand to slowly snake down to grasp her left one. "A beautiful sunset, watching it from the top of a hill, just you and me, and a few sugary snacks?"
Poppy smiled at him as she placed her free hand on his bicep and lightly squeezed it. "Sounds romantic." She whispered, leaning in a little closer to his face. "And absolutely perfect."
Branch beamed at her and slightly squeezed her hand tighter. "I'll see you then." He said.
He then placed a gentle kiss on her cheek as he let go of her and started to make his way to the perimeter of the village to check on his traps, making sure that no Troll or any possible threat had sprung them. Poppy watched him as he took his leave, the smitten smile on her face stretching from ear to ear as she gently placed a hand on the cheek that Branch had kissed.
"Pop-py." A sing-song voice said teasingly as a pale pink hand waved back and forth in front of her face. "Hel-lo?"
The rosy pink Pop Troll queen blinked twice, and her cheeks flushed red when she realized that she might've been standing there a little too long, staring in the direction that Branch went off in. Her friends were all looking at her with knowing smiles, confirming her suspicion.
The twins just giggled as Satin retracted her hand away from the queen's face. "Oh, you've got it so bad, girl." Chenille teased, playfully putting her hands on her hips.
Poppy only chuckled breathlessly with embarrassment as she looked back in the direction that Branch went off in. The same smile from before appeared back on her face as thoughts of her completely handsome, endearing, talented, smart, caring, sarcastic and adorably over-cautious boyfriend flooded her mind's eye.
She just loved everything about him: his smile, which was the most wondrous thing that she would see every day; his voice, which truly was like the voice of an angel whenever he sang; his eyes, the sky blue color speaking a thousand words he would never say aloud; his heart, pure and golden despite the many scars from his sad past; and even the little annoyed grumbles under his breath whenever she would drag him into one of her zany schemes.
But he loved her enough to go along with them so that he can help get her out of whatever jam she found herself in. And she loved him enough that she can't imagine her life without him in it, no matter their differences.
She wanted him to be the first person who will greet her in the morning, and the one who she will see last of all at the day's end for the rest of her life; maybe even for beyond that. All of the good times and the bad times will be worth it all in the end, just as it had been ever since they had gained a better understanding of each other. She could clearly see a happy future with him; a happy life with him.
Her lovestruck grin then turned into one of pure resolve. "Yes, I do." She said.
With the epiphany ringing clearly in her mind, Poppy quickly raced over to her pods without saying another word. Wondering why their friend took off so suddenly, the Snack Pack quickly followed her.
They soon found her looking through all kinds of boxes, ranging from big and small, all of them placed on the floor.
"Where did I put it?" She muttered to herself. "It has to be here somewhere."
After rummaging around for a few more seconds, she soon let out a sigh of pure relief. She had pulled out a small bright blue velvet box from one of the much bigger ones on the floor. The box was pretty small, but it was big enough to hold only one thing.
Poppy's smile turned fond and loving as she carefully opened the box to reveal a single gold band with tiny, beautiful clear diamonds arranged neatly in a row all across it. It was so simple yet beautiful, just like the Troll she wanted to give it to.
The Snack Pack all gasped loudly in surprise when they caught a peek at the elegantly simplistic ring, making Poppy almost drop the box in fright. After fumbling around with it for a few seconds, she quickly turned around to face them, her magenta eyes wide, her cheeks flushed bright red and reaching up to the tips of her ears.
Her friends' jaws were all dropped in shock as they stared at the ring nestled perfectly in the little box. Then, DJ Suki jumped up into the air, her fist pumped up and the excited smile on her face threatening to split it into two.
"FINALLY!" She exclaimed.
The others all began chattering excitedly and asking questions as they quickly gathered around Poppy, who had quickly closed the box and then put it away in her hair before she would accidentally drop it again.
"You're actually going to ask him?!"
"Congrats, Poppy!"
"We're so happy for you!"
"You and Branch deserve each other!"
"He will make a great king!"
"And you two will have the cutest little trollings!"
"Yay! I might be a big cousin one day!"
Poppy blushed bright red at all the attention that she was getting. Normally, she wouldn't be feeling so flustered by her friends' elation, but since this was more of a serious and very personal matter, of course she would feel a bit out of place and feel like she was pushed into an unwanted spotlight. Which definitely was not normal for her.
"Uh, guys?" She started to ask, but everyone was still talking excitedly and loudly.
A feeling of dread coursed through the young Pop Troll queen as she started to think that if they didn't stop, then the entirety of Pop Village would want to know what was going on, including Branch. And then all of her plans would be flushed down the drain.
"Guys!" She tried again, reaching up with her hair and then quickly slamming the pod door closed with a bang behind them.
This time, the Snack Pack all went quiet as they stared at their friend and queen, who was acting unusually on edge.
"I understand that you're happy for me, but can you please not alert the entire village before I go through with my plan?"
They all chuckled embarrassedly. "Sorry about that, Poppy." Biggie apologized. "But we are very happy for you."
"You're finally going to pop the question." Satin added. "And to Branch, nonetheless."
"Did you tell your dad about it?" Suki asked.
Poppy nodded. "And believe me, he was just as thrilled as you guys are." She said.
She remembered back a couple of days ago when she had told her father of her desire to marry Branch. He was overjoyed by her decision, and even happier that she will be marrying for love. He also kept going on and on about how he and everyone else in Pop Village thought that Branch would be a great king, and as an extra bonus for Peppy, a great son-in-law; helping her around the village the best way he knows how, and also to help keep her grounded as well. And don't get her started on how he had pictured their future little ones, making his daughter blush as red as a strawberry.
She will be honest, once in a while, she did picture what the future would be like if she and Branch did have kids. She could easily picture a handsome young boy with Branch's blue skin and her pink hair; although it would look a bit more red than her usual rosy pink color, and he would have a love of fun while also being quite practical. And then, there would be a lovely little girl with her pink skin and his cobalt blue hair, inheriting her father's wondrous voice and her mother's flawless dance moves. Then there would be two more after her, another mischievous yet sharp-minded boy who would be the spitting image of his father, and another energetic little girl who would prove that she's her mother's daughter.
"Uh, Poppy?" Biggie's voice immediately drew out of her reverie, and she could see the knowing looks coming from her friends, and the blush stretched up to touch the tips of her ears.
They were right about her. She's got it so bad, and she was in too deep to turn back. Not that she ever wanted to, anyway.
"I do have one itty-bitty question, though." Legsly piped in. "No offense, but I thought that maybe Branch would've already asked you that big question by now."
Poppy just shrugged, her blush finally beginning to recede. "Come on, guys." She said. "You know how he is. He likes everything to be absolutely perfect, down to the littlest detail. He just probably hasn't found that right moment."
Her blush came back onto her cheeks, but it turned much softer as she began to picture Branch getting down on one knee in front of her, holding a beautiful delicate ring in his hand. It would be really nice if she heard her handsome Troll poet gently say the sweetest, most romantic things to her while holding out the ring to her; things that would've made her cry tears of joy and made her smile with pure love and elation. Then she would've blubbered out a happy "yes" when he asked her the question and hugged him for all that he's worth.
However, now that she was thinking about it, they did have some pretty romantic moments during this past week, ones that either would have led to some passionate kisses, or Branch would almost be fiddling around with his fingers, eyes flicking down to his vest, as if he had something in a pocket there and was nervous about it. Had he been trying to propose to her all this time, and she hadn't noticed until now?!
But then she remembered that whenever he had the opportunity, someone had ruined the moment. Either it was one of their friends, or some other concerned Troll had asked for one of them for their help. As much as she was somewhat annoyed that the moment had ended, she couldn't turn away someone in need. Apparently, neither can Branch, even if that meant putting his possible proposal plans on hold.
"Actually, I think he had been trying to ask me." Poppy said, crossing her arms.
Smidge narrowed her eyes. "He had been trying to ask you to marry him and just kept backing out at the last minute?" She asked in disbelief. "Okay, I think that chicken needs a good talking to." She said, punching her open palm.
Poppy quickly shook her head. "No, I don't think he's afraid." She said, immediately calming down the tough little Pop Troll. "I think it's because the moment gets ruined before he gets the chance." Then it was her turn to narrow her eyes at her friends.
The Snack Pack briefly wondered what she meant by that, but then, their eyes all widened in realization.
"Oh." They said, drawing it out a little. They remembered that this week had been very busy for both of them, and they didn't really help much with it, either.
Poppy receded her glare and took a deep, calming breath. The last thing she wanted at the moment was to be angry at her friends for something that wasn't their fault.
"I'm not angry at any of you guys, and I know that Branch isn't, either." She said to reassure them. "But you kinda have to admit, having that one perfect moment ruined in an instant over and over again doesn't do the two of us any favors."
"Sorry about that, Poppy." Guy Diamond said, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly with his free hand, the other holding a slightly bigger Tiny Diamond in the crook of it.
Poppy just smiled at him forgivingly before she reached back up into her hair and pulled out the box that held the ring. She didn't open it, but just stared at it as it seemed to slowly gain weight in her palm. This is a big step for both her and Branch in their relationship, especially since they apparently were both thinking the same thing; which was pretty rare all on its own.
And yet, Poppy had never been more sure about anything. And she had been sure about a lot of things. But when it came to the question of having Branch by her side forever and always, as her equal, her partner and her king, there was no hesitation whatsoever.
But how can she work it up when he had been trying all week, but the moment gets ended abruptly before he could even ask? Even if they both tried at the same time, it was more than likely that someone is going to need their help with something. Well, it's not like she could just drag him away on a little romantic weekend when she had been nearly drowning in royal duties for a while now; even if the idea sounded quite wonderful. The only way that she can get no interruptions was if-
Poppy suddenly gasped, a little sparkle in her eyes. She couldn't see herself in the mirror, but if she could, her face would have that signature "I have an elaborate plan that involves singing, dancing, hugging and glitter" face. That very same face that both annoys Branch exceedingly, but is also quite endearing and adorable to him.
Apparently, her friends knew that look as well. "Oh, boy." Cooper said with a little gulp.
"What have you got planned this time, Poppy?" Suki asked her.
The pink Pop Troll queen just smiled widely at her group of friends. "Something that will finally end all of this." She said. "No interruptions, no sudden noises, no surprises. It may not be the opening that Branch is looking for, but at least I'll give it to him." She then gave them a wink. "But I will need your help, you guys."
The Snack Pack all looked between each other with a little bit of nervousness, wondering just what Poppy had in mind this time. They really hoped that this time, she wouldn't go so over the top; for Branch's sake more than hers. If she does go overboard, then maybe his reaction to it wouldn't be the one that she was hoping for.
