Chapter 7 It's A Pirates Life For You [L]

Evynne blinked her eyes open as the first signs of morning were shining on her face. Last she remembered, she'd fallen asleep on the deck. Killian must have moved her to his cabin. She rubbed the sleep out of her eyes and rolled over, to a sight she had been waiting for, for the last five years. Killian was asleep next to her. She smiled brightly and curled into him laying her head on his chest. Killian's arm wrapped around her as she drew heart shaped patterns on his chest with her finger.
"Good morning, my love." Killian mumbled as he stirred from his slumber.
"Good morning, Captain." Evynne said in a sing-song tone.
"Someone is happy." Killian chuckled.
"I'm over the moon!" Evynne sighed contently. "This is all I have wanted for the last five miserable years without you."
Killian propped himself up on his elbow to get a better look at his princess.
"Is it everything you imagined?" He asked. The ship rocked slightly and Evynne felt a twinge of nausea in her stomach.
"Almost." She said holding her stomach.
"You'll get used to it, love." Killian smiled and brushed a lock of her hair out of her face. "It will take a few days for you to adjust. It's a lot different out here than it is on land."
"It is, I'll be fine though as long as I have you." She smiled and poked the tip of his nose with her finger. "Does the rest of the crew know I am here?" She asked.
"Aye. I spoke to them last night before they turned in. They don't much like surprises." He chuckled.
"I still want to know how you managed to board my ship without me knowing. That is not an easy task."
"I made a deal with Billy, he distracted the two men you had watching the ship and I snuck on."
"Clever girl." Killian smirked. "What did Billy get out of it?"
"I gave him some coins so he can buy whatever he wants next time we make port. I also assured him that if you were to be angry, you would be angry with me, not him."
Killian laughed
"Did you think I'd be angry?"
"I didn't know how you would react." Evynne admitted. "But I figured if you were angry, you never stay mad at me for too long." Evynne winked and rolled on top of him straddling his lap. "I have ways of cooling down that temper of yours." She grinned and ran her hands over his chest.
"You're a bloody little enchantress Evynne." Killian breathed.
There was a light knock on the door.
"Yes?" Killian answered as Evynne began a trail of kisses up his neck.
"Breakfast, Sir!" Billy's voice called from the other side of the door.
"Aye, give me just a moment lad!" Killian spoke as Evynnes teeth grazed his ear lobe so it came out in more of a groan than anything else.
"Are you alright Captain? You sound ill..." Billy said.
"Are you alright Captain?" Evynne whispered in his ear she pulled back to look at him and bit her lip. "I think.. That I want something else for breakfast." She said and raised her eyebrows and slowly slid down to his waist.
"Captain?" Billy asked again.
"Yes, Billy I'm fine!" Killian answered and pulled Evynne back up to eye level. "You little siren. Lets not traumatize the boy."
Evynne just grinned at him.
"I can hardly be blamed. Now that I have you, I don't want to let you go." She said.
"Aye love I understand," Killian chuckled.
"Good." She grinned and leaned in kissing him. Killian pulled back.
"Perhaps later darling. You should eat." He smiled and then laughed when Evynne pouted at him. He kissed her on the cheek. "Later." He said again and slid out from underneath Evynne to get out of bed and get dressed. He looked back at Evynne who was still pouting at him.
"Don't give me that look."
Evynne sighed and flopped back onto the bed dramatically.
Killian chuckled and shook his head.
"Stop pouting and go get the door." He said.
Evynne propped herself up on her elbows.
"Why can't you get the-" She started to ask, but when Killian turned to face her it was clear why he couldn't go get the door.
"Oh.." Evynne said and bit her lip. Her eyes went directly to his waist where he was straining in his leather pants.
"Oh." Killian mocked her, as if she didn't know what she did to him.
"I offered to take care of that for you, but you would rather eat breakfast." Evynne shrugged and adjusted her dress unable to hide her smirk.
"I didn't quite think this level of sass from you was possible this early princess."
Evynne walked to the cabin door and looked at him over her shoulder at him.
"You haven't seen anything yet, Captain." She winked.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Killian watched Evynne, as she stood on the forecastle deck, writing in her journal. Every now and then she looked up at the waves rolling by and smiled. He loved that smile, and he loved the way that her honey brown hair blew behind her in the breeze, It was a picture he'd only seen in his dreams until now and he knew that she was meant to be here. It had been a few weeks since she had boarded his ship and he loved how she wanted to learn everything about the ship, and his way of life. It was thrilling to her and he thought that perhaps if he would have listened to her when she first begged him to take her away with him she'd likely be sailing the ship herself by now.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Captain Killian Jones was in love. Something he didn't think was possible for him. Not since his first love was taken from him. Somehow, this mysterious woman who he'd only known for the very short time since making port had found a way to warm his long cold heart.
He'd met her in the tavern, where she sat having a drink and reading a book and the second her sea green eyes met his, he knew he was in trouble. He made his way to her table, and that night they drank, and they connected on a level he'd never been before. But after spending the last couple of nights full of passion with the woman, only to have her sneak off in the morning before he'd wake up, he felt as if she was hiding something from him and upon looking through her satchel, he'd discovered exactly what that was.
Killian carried the small satchel across the cabin to his bed, where the woman he'd brought back with him the night before, and the last few nights before that, slept. He emptied the satchel next to her, successfully waking her up.
She looked down at her belongings on the bed, A tiara, a journal, and a pouch full of gold coins and then back up at Killian's cold and angry eyes.
"I can explain." She said.
"Then do it!" He spat.
"I..well.. I.." The woman stammered.
"You lied to me!" Killian growled. "Tell me who you are!"
"My name is Evynne, that I was truthful about. I'm Evynne Tate."
"You mean, Princess Evynne Tate."
"Well... yes." She said her eyes were welling up with tears.
"After everything I told you about my brother... you still lied to me!"
"Because I was afraid you wouldn't look at me the same Killian!" Evynne shouted. "Your brothers death might as well be blood on my hands to you because according to you, us royal type are all the same! But we aren't. I never chose this life. I was born to it. Is this what concerns you?" She asked and picked up the Tiara and put it on her head. "Look at me! I'm the same woman with or without it."
"No, you aren't. By night you are mine, and by day you are the very thing I stand against." Killian spat.
"I have nothing to do with how my father, or any king, in any other kingdom wears their crown. I'm a bloody pawn to them. A game piece they use to end wars, and then marry off to the highest bidder. I never asked for any of this. Nor did I want it Killian."
"Oh poor pitiful you." Killian sneered. "You should probably collect your things and go home Princess. I have too many things to worry about to worry about your father's entire navy coming for my head.
"Is that what you really want Killian? After everything? Killian... I love you and I am so terribly sorry that I've hurt you with my lies it was never my intention."
Killian turned away from her.
"Just go.." He mumbled. His pride had completely taken over and he'd be damned if he let himself love some bloody princess.
"So the last few nights have meant nothing to you then?" She asked. The way her voice broke to pieces when she spoke hurt him a lot more than he wanted it to. He turned to her again, keeping his eyes off of hers, knowing that if he looked in her eyes it would ruin him.
"You were fun." He shrugged. "That is all."
He felt the sting of her palm connecting with his cheek but what hurt him more was her sobs as she hurried from his quarters.
~~~~~~
That night in the Tavern he found himself looking for her at her table knowing damn well that she wouldn't be there not after what he had done.
"Where is Evynne tonight?" Mr. Smee asked as he sat down across from Killian.
"Probably at home. In her palace." Killian mumbled and took a long pull from the bottle of rum on the table.
"I'm sorry.. Her palace?" Smee asked.
"Evynne is a Princess." Killian shrugged. "So I ended it, and made her leave. So if I were to wager, I'd say she was in her Palace, ordering her father's Navy to put an end to me."
"I don't think Evynne would do that.. Princess or not. In fact I'm not quite sure why Evynne being a princess matters at all. She's still Evynne isn't she?"
"You know why it matters Mr. Smee. I've made my brothers fate quite clear to you." Killian growled.
"Forgive me Captain, but..Evynne had nothing to do with what happened to him. It wasn't her, or her father for that matter, who sent you two on that quest that ultimately ended his life."
"They're all the same Mr. Smee! They don't value anyone's life but their own. The people who work for them are all expendable. If you have anything else to say, I suggest you keep it to yourself." Killian barked.
Smee sighed.
"If I can just say one more thing Captain.." He said.
"Speak at your own peril." Killian glared.
"I think you know, deep down that you are wrong about Evynne and you know that you are making a mistake if you don't fix what you've done. I haven't seen you smile like this.. Well truthfully ever sir. She's done something, that no one has been able to do in years. She's forced you to allow yourself to be happy and if you let her status take that away from you... that would be a shame. Evynne, is still Evynne with or without a crown, and a kingdom." Smee said and with that he stood up and left the tavern leaving the Captain to his thoughts.
Killian cursed Mr. Smee, for always appealing to his softer side and for making sense of things. Smee was right. Evynne had nothing to do with what happened to Liam, and if Liam were alive, he would have knocked his lights out for treating Evynne the way he had that morning.
~~~~~~
It was a long shot, but Killian thought that if he was going to find Evynne, and fix this colossal mess he had made the small book shop in the marketplace would be the place to look. Evynne loved her books.
He walked inside the small shop, and the owner gave him a fearful look.
"I'm not here to cause any trouble." Killian said putting his hands up. "I'm simply looking for someone." He said. The owner gave him a small nod and Killian walked between the shelves of books searching for his princess. He was about to give up, when he saw her honey brown curls cascading down her back. She hummed lightly to herself as her eyes scanned the shelves for her next adventure.
"Evynne.." Killian said softly. He noticed Evynne tense for just a moment before she collected herself.
"Captain." She said cooly, but making no effort to turn and look at him.
"Evynne, please..I need to see you." He begged.
Evynne turned to him, her sea green eyes stared daggers into him.
"If you are looking for more fun Hook, there is a brothel down the street." She said.
"I made a mistake Evynne. I let my past cloud over everything and I know that I've possibly let it destroy any potential future with you, but I had to at least try and fix what I've done."
"What kind of future does a pirate like you, have with a princess like me?" Evynne asked and looked back at the shelf of books beside her, only eyeing him every now and then.
"I was wrong to blame you for what happened to my brother and I was wrong to assume that your crown and your status made you..any less..well you." Killian sighed. "Bloody hell I'm awful at this. I'm just trying to say that none of it matters Evynne. I fell in love with Evynne Tate...princess or not and I hope that you will give me another chance to make this right."
Evynne looked at him, contemplating. As much as she wanted to tell him to piss off, and leave her alone she couldn't. They'd only spent one night without seeing each other and she had missed him so much. She missed the way he smelled, and those damn blue eyes of his that were now pleading with her, begging her to allow him to make this right. She would be crazy if she said no. Her whole life her choices were made for her but Killian Jones was the one choice that was hers and she wasn't going to let him go. However he had also really hurt her with his words the other night so she wasn't going to let him off the hook so fast.
"I think I left my journal on your ship, and I'd really like it back." She said with a plain expression on her face. The disappointment on Killian's face almost made her crack.
"Oh...Alright then, I can take you there now if you'd like to get it." He said.
Evynne nodded.
"I would." She said and walked past him trying to hide her smile as she did.
After a painfully silent walk to the ship, Killian lead Evynne into his quarters.
"I was certain that you took everything with you." He said.
"I'm pretty sure I left my journal here." Evynne said and looked around the cabin.
Killian searched on the other side of the cabin. Evynne looked over her shoulder to see if he was looking before untucking her journal from her satchel and placing it on his writing desk before looking through his bookshelves.
"Ah, here it is." Killian said as he picked it up from his desk.
"Oh." Evynne said and turned around and took it from him. "Thank you...I guess I'll be on my way then." Evynne said. "My father is getting a little wise to me sneaking away from the palace so.."
"Then I won't keep you." Killian said and scratched behind his ear. "Goodbye Evynne."
"Goodbye Captain." Evynne said and turned away from him and walked outside the cabin and closed the door behind her.
Killian sighed and paced the cabin. This couldn't be it. It had only been a few days but it had been a long time since he had ever felt these feelings. He could practically hear his brother yelling at him, in his head to go after her. He hurried to the cabin door and practically ripped it off its hinges
"Evynne!" He shouted and then looked at her standing right there in front of him with a big grin on her face.
"Why are you shouting? I'm right here." She said.
"I thought you.."
"Left? No I'm not going anyw-" Evynne squeaked as Killian lifted her and carried her back inside of the cabin. "Killian!" She laughed. He set her down in front of him and his lips crashed into hers.
~~~~~~
Evynne sighed contently next to Killian. This is where she was meant to be. She propped herself up on her elbows.
"Take me away with you." She said.
"What?" Killian asked and sat up to look at her.
"Take me with you. When you leave."
"Evynne.. Love, this is no place for you." He said and shook his head. "I love you, darling I do. But if I take you away your father is going to send his entire navy after us, and he likely won't stop until he gets you back and once he gets you back we'll both be hanged."
Evynne frowned. Deep down she knew this. Killian had the luxury to go where ever he wanted, when he wanted. If she were to be with him they would constantly be trying to outrun her father's navy.
"I know you can't come with me. But I promise you I will be back because my heart now belongs to you." He smiled.
"When will you be back?" Evynne asked.
"I'm not entirely sure on that unfortunately I can't give you an exact time but the second I know that I am heading your way I'll write you."
Evynne nodded.
"Okay." She said and curled into him. "When do you leave?"
"Tomorrow at dawn." He said sadly.
"Then I will be right here until then." Evynne said and curled her fingers in his chest hair.
Killian tangled his fingers in her curls and kissed the top of her head.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Killian stood beside Evynne as she looked out at the water and then wrote something down.
"What are you writing about?" He asked.
"I'm writing about the way the water moves. I've never seen it this closely." She smiled and closed her journal.
Killian looked down at her dress. It had been washed several times since she'd arrived but it surely wasn't handled with the same care that those at the palace would apply so it was looking rather rough. However they were still a couple of days from the next port and it was the only thing she had that fit her properly. In the cabin she wore his shirts, but she couldn't just waltz around the deck in nothing but one of his shirts. She would have to get some new clothes when they made port.
"How are you fitting in?" Killian asked.
Evynne shrugged.
"They all seem to like me just fine. I just wish they didn't look at me and just see this fragile little girl who knows nothing." She frowned. "I went to the galley to ask Shaw if I could help him and he actually laughed at me. And then I asked Milo if he would like some help with the decks, and he told me that he wouldn't want my pretty hands getting tore up." She said and scowled now.
"Well darling, Milo is right. Scrubbing the decks is hell on ones hands. I would know I did it for years. I don't think he meant any harm. Shaw laughs at everyone so never mind him." Killian smiled.
"I feel like I should be doing something Killian. I don't want the rest of the crew to just look at me like I'm a princess. I want to help with something. Anything!" She sighed.
"You are a princess. You're my princess." Killian said.
"I don't want to be a Princess, I left all that behind, not just because I love you but because I wanted more out of life. I wanted to make my own choices."
Evynne picked up her crown that had been sitting beside her. She walked over to the railing of the ship and tossed the crown overboard watching it sink into the sea until it was gone.
"From this day forward I am no longer Princess Evynne Tate. I'm just Evynne. I want you to teach me everything you can Killian."
Killian smirked and put his arm around her waist and pulled her to him. He used his hook to brush a curl out of her face.
"Well then, I guess It's a Pirate's life for you, my love."
