Chapter 3

The pub was full of drunken laughter and horrible singing as people washed away all sanity and dignity which bottles of beer and rum. The odd twang of a broken guitar bounced off the brown walls of the pub, stained with alcohol which had been spilt and blood from drunken fights which frequently broke out every hour.

At one particular corner of the room, a tall young man sat, his head resting on the table, his hat strewn awkwardly on the mop of shaggy brown hair which hadn't been brushed for months. He sighed, taking another swig of rum and turned his head to look at the the two men sat next to him, his face lined with distraught.

"I don't see why we have to wait 2 months." He sighed. The man closest to him chuckled and patted the man on his shoulder.

"There there, Romeo, you'll be reunited with your love soon. But we can't just attack the village again! They'll wipe out the crew in no time! Especially with the soldiers patrolling." He reassured, inwardly laughing as the captain frowned and mumbled to himself, taking on the character of a puppy longing for it's owner.

"Yeah! And then we can set sail again!" The slightly younger boy piped up. A long sigh echoed through the pub as the captain got up..

"Where d'ya think yer goin' now boy?" The old man asked, scratching the stubble on his chin, eyebrows raised.

"To see Calypso. Where else do you think?" He spat.

"You may have brains when it comes to leadership and sailing, but when it comes to love and patience your like a child," the man sighed.

"Oh shut it, Watson." He grumbled, slamming his hands onto the table before shrinking back into his chair.

"Why can't we just tell her the truth?!" He yelled.

"Because she needs to remember on her own!"

"But she can't!"

"You underestimate her, after all, she must of had some instinct to who you were, or she wouldn't have asked you when you would come back!" The Captain huffed and crossed his arms, defeated.

"Stubborn child." Watson chuckled and gulped down the rub before closing his eyes, falling into a deep sleep.

"S'cuse me....hey...hey you! Oi!" A high, nasal voice whined. The three men jolted up, shocked to see a tall, spindly woman peering down at them, a bunch of old keys in her hand.

"We're closin' now. If ye want a room then say, but if not you'll 'ave to leave."

"How much for a room."

"Free. your 'crew' already paid with the stories they told us." The Captain raised his eyebrows but didn't comment, instead, they followed the girl to a room for three.

"Here's your room. Breakfasts at 7."

"Thanks," He grumbled and tossed her a gold coin. She smiled and left, mumbling to herself.

"What am I gonna do with this? Strange men..."

The room was small and wooden. It had a cabin bed and a bunk bed which were layered in thin knitted sheets. The floor was bear and worn and there was no light to fill the room, only from the window which was pitch black like the night sky. The only light which filtered through was from the manor house, a tiny speck of light compared to the frame. The Captain looked up at the light before retreating back to his bed.

In the morning, the men stumbled out of bed as the captain shouted at them and threw them on the floor, shovelled down a breakfast of rum and porridge and headed down to a secret cove where they had anchored down the ship.

The cove was a small crescent of beach which was far away from the village and no one would notice the giant mast through the thick canopy of leaves in the forest behind the trees. There, the men met the rest of the crew where they were immediately approached by Thompson, a short man who spent his time in the Crow's Nest 'looking' out for other ships' which usually meant sleeping.

"Captin' we're low on rum! And we need more swords and food!" He yawned.

"Yes I know that! It'll have to wait until we leave the island!"

"When's that?" Thompson whined, stretching his limbs and watching the outskirts of the bay as he saw two figures walking the cliff edge.

"Soon!" He captain shouted, swatting the man on his head and striding off to his cabin.

"Where ye goin', Captain?!" Watson shouted, groaning as he strode off.

"To my cabin to plan our next route!" He replied slamming the door on the ship.

"He's been edgy recently." The young boy said, grinning deviously.

"Shut yer trap, Travis and go do something useful." The young boy frowned and walked to join the other members of the crew.

"Oi, who are they?" one of the crew members shouted out, pointing to the figures who Thompson spotted earlier.

"Women...specifically the two maids from the manor..." Thompson called out from the crow's nest.

"Go get the captain," Watson sighed, pushing Travis towards the ship. "the rest of you, get to the cabins, we don't need our cover to be blown." the men scrambled to the deck and all struggled under to their hammocks where they sat patiently awaiting orders, passing the time by playing cards and drinking.

"Captain!" Travis called out, his knuckles rapping on the old, wooden door. He heard the clattering from inside the room stop.

"What?" the captain growled, wrenching the door open and
