Chapter 22 - Little Sisters
BAILEY
The pandemonium was unbelievable. Getting answers proved difficult. I wanted to hide below deck, but I needed to know what was going on. Only, no one would tell me.
"Excuse me--"
"G'out th' way!"
"Sorry--"
"MOVE!"
I shuffled away, pressing my back to the wall. I needed to find Olivia, but I wasn't sure where to look.
"SHUT UP!" The shout cut above the rest, dripping with malice.
"I'm sorry Cap'n, but--"
"I SAID SHUT UP!"
Oh, Liv. You never could control yourself.
I started toward her voice, weaving through the hoard of men.
That was when I felt the first raindrop. The bedlam made sense, now. They were preparing for a storm.
I heard Olivia's voice bellow a few profanities.
"SPEED IT UP, PEOPLE!" She screamed. I stepped closer, trying to catch sight of her through the crowd of pirates. Finally I saw her, standing on the quarterdeck. She screamed at the crew with wild eyes and a bright red face.
"C'MON YE MUCKIN PIXIE POPPERS!" She hollered, her face reddening. "YE GOT FIVE TOPS!"
It still shocked me to see her captaining a ship. The men heeded her commands without hesitation, and responded to her screams with only an attempt to work faster.
"Olivia!" I called. "What's going on?!"
She just spared me half a glance. "IT'S COMIN'!" She pulled her sword from its sheathe, pointing the blade skyward. "D'YE SEE THIS? I AIN'T GOT TIME FER YE CRAP!"
The crew bustled about, speeding the preparation even more if it was possible.
"Olivia!" I bellowed again, clutching the rail next to her feet. "Tell me what's happening!!"
"SHUDDUP!" She shouted, not even bothering to look at me.
"Cap'n!" I jumped, startled by the voice. "Should I get 'er out th' way?"
"Aye ye better," Olivia spat, finally looking at me. Or glaring at me, whatever floats your boat. Your pirate ship. Argh, why?
"C'mon, lady," The man grumbled, taking my arm. I couldn't fight him; he dragged me away as if I was a sack of potatoes.
"OLIVIA!"
She didn't look. I sighed.
Little sisters.
