(Obsidian's P.O.V)

When I awoke, the first thing I listened for was the disturbance. But there was nothing. Nothing but silence. My breathing was even, my legs were tangled in the sheets and I can't have been asleep for too long as the room was still dark with night.

Her blonde head was tucked neatly into the crook between my shoulder and my neck, one delicate hand resting on my broad chest, her fingers splayed apart. Her body lay pressed up against my own and she moved in her sleep, inching closer to me.

I sighed and gently untangled myself from her, being careful not to let her wake, and sat up, running a hand through my hair. She mumbled in her sleep and I turned to look at her, smiling when I saw that her little face was scrunched into a frown as she huddled closer to the warm spot I had left behind.

Moving so that my elbows rested on either side, I hovered my body overtop of hers, being careful not to put too much of my weight on her. Gently I smoothed out the crease between her brows with one finger, before replacing my touch with a kiss. She smiled slightly and, unable to resist, I bent my head to press my lips to hers before moving to nuzzle my nose along her jaw, inhaling her sweet scent. She let out a small sigh of contentment as I moved my lips to her forehead, placing a kiss there and then pulling back to look at her, taking in the way that the delicate white of her night gown made her skin look like cream and her hair the color of honey.

So beautiful.

"Bones."

I growled softly, gritting my teeth as I pulled away from her.

Hobbs stood in the doorway to her room, pity etched into every line on his face.

I didn't want his pity anymore, I didn't want anyones pity. I never did in the first place.

He jerked his head out of the door. "Come back ta ya room boy. We need ta talk."

"Can't you see that I'm busy?" I hissed, furious that he had interrupted me and unwilling to discuss what I knew he wanted to talk about.

"If ya know what be good fer ya, you'll come righ' now." He said darkly.

I scowled deeply at him but reluctantly dragged myself away from the bed, away from Circe, and followed him down the hallway, shutting the mermaid door tightly behind me.

Crossing my arms over my chest, I leaned back against said door, regarding him angrily. "What is it."

Hobbs sighed, running a hand through his hair and looking awkward. "Look, ya know that I don't want ta have ta do this--"

"Then don't," I snarled. "let me have her, I can make. Her. Happy." The last word left on a snarl through my clenched teeth and realizing the contradiction between my words and my tone I let out a bitter laugh, turning around to kick at the wall angrily.

"You can make 'er 'appy fer now Bones. But what about later? Yer going to 'ave ta say goodbye at some point, why not make it now, while she's less attatched. It'll only be cruel the longer ya--"

"I KNOW GODDAMNIT!" I roared, slamming my fist down on the table. "Don't you think that I KNOW that? Don't you think that I KNOW what I would being doing to her?!" I pinched the bridge of my nose and closed my eyes, forcing air between my teeth. I couldn't afford to wake her.

"For once," I said, my voice filled with tension. "just for once I want to know what it feels like--"

I broke off feeling Hobbsons hand come down on my shoulder. "I know Bones. You don't have to continue."

I nodded tersely, refusing to look him in the eye. "Send Cobalt here. I need to fix this."

I felt him nod beside me. "You're doing the right thing. It's better this way."

Is it? My mind screamed silently. Is it really?

"Just go and get him." I growled out loud. "Send him through to Circe's room, I'll deal with it."

He nodded again and crossed the room, shutting the door behind him. I took another deep breath, trying to calm my anger before heading in the opposite direction to him, through the mermaid door, down the hallway and into Circe's room. Crossing the distance to her bed in one stride I noticed that her necklace had slipped loose from her night gown, the blue pendant still glowing with the pent up energy.

Curious, I reached out for it and after a seconds hesitation, picked it up.

Nothing happened.

Slowly I ran my fingers over the smooth surface, wondering at the silvery blue glow that mimicked Circe's hair. Sitting myself down beside her, I pulled out my own pendant and compared the two beside each other, one gold and one blue silver. Together they each looked like one of my eyes when I was calm, maybe Circe's necklace could have been a little more silver  but it didn't matter too much, my fate was practically confirmed. All that was left now was the last one, and if I had guessed correctly ...

For the first time I found myself wishing that there had been another way. That I could have just handed my Father over and all of this could have been avoided. But there was no turning back now, definitely no turning back with the course I was set on.

Circe made a noise of disquiet in her sleep and immediately my attention was diverted. Her head tossed from side to side, the delicate frown was back and her lips parted as she let out another whimper.

"They're coming, they're coming ..."

I felt a chill rush through me at her words and before I knew it I was bending down, pressing my lips to hers, half out of desperation to feel her touch, half out of fear that her next words would be my sentence.

More urgently I kissed her, until her eyelids fluttered open although I could tell that she wasn't really awake, her pupils flickered from side to side, unable to focus.

"They're coming for you." She whispered and again I captured her lips in order to block out those horrible words, spilling from such a beautiful mouth. Pulling back I grabbed her hand, holding her necklace high so she could see it.

Her eyes focused on it immediately. "Mine." She grabbed for it but I jerked it out of reach, swinging it back and forth in front of her. I knew how this was supposed to go, but was unsure as to if it would work on her.

"Circe. Can you hear me?"

"Mmmmm."

"It wasn't Obsidian that you kissed last night was it?" I whispered, feeling my heart ache as I said the next words. "It was Colby. You kissed Colby last night didn't you?"

She swayed a little, propping herself up on one arm to try to grab the pendant again, but I was too fast for her and she slumped back down on the pillows, her eyes still watching the pendant.

"It was Colby that you kissed wasn't it Circe? You think you might have feelings for him don't you? You're going to stay away from Obsidian, he's not good for you."

Her eyelids drooped slightly. "I kissed Colby ... Stay away from Obsidian--" She yawned widely. "He's no ... good."

Even though it was my words being replayed back to me, they stung as if she had said them herself. Her eyelids closed completely and I tucked the blankets back over her, just as the sound of Cobalt's feet padding softly down the hallway entered my ears.

I turned, straightening up and letting Circe's necklace fall back into place as I took in the sight of my twin standing in the doorway, sleep still clouding his eyes.

"What did you want me for?" He mumbled, his voice husky.

I tried not to sound too bitter as I spoke. "Circe is having nightmares and she woke me up. I need you to keep her company since Lacy isn't here."

Cobalt nodded, making his way over to her bed. "Okay, I don't mind, but I wouldn't have thought that you would give up an opportunity to climb into bed with her."

I sneered, curling my top lip. "Does it really look as though I have time? I need to go up top anyway. We have to be on the move as soon as possible now that Hobbs has evaluated our obstacles."

I watched as he climbed into bed with her, pulling her against his side and tucking her head into the spot that it had been resting against me earlier. I felt a piece of my heart chip away as she nuzzled her face into his neck and whispered his name in her sleep. He kissed the top of her golden head, pulling the blankets up to her neck and making sure she was warm before nodding curtly at me once.

Turning away from them I strode out the door, my fists clenched, telling myself not to look back and pulling the cold mask of indifference down over my face as I went.
