Warnings

I woke up to the touch of a tear-stained pillow and I was still in a ball. "It felt so real," I thought as I checked the time. Only 3 o'clock? "If that's what's going to happen to me with all of these changes, I don't want to have to go through that." I tried to go back to sleep, but when an hour had passed and I still wasn't dozing off, I gave up. "I don't want to hurt Alice and I certainly don't want Commander Howlett to yell at me like that, especially when we barely achieved friend status," I thought, "Hmm, maybe if I can avoid Alice then I can avoid that whole thing?" I contemplated. "I don't understand why these dreams are happening more frequently. I don't think this one was very true though. Alice and I might not agree on everything, but we've never argued to the point that we just walk out on each other. Everyone is getting quarter changes today and, even if Alice and I are in the same Division, I'm not going to share quarters with her. This way, we won't argue. Since Alice and I are good at entirely different things, we won't have the same jobs, so I won't get to talk to her very much. I guess that's a good thing? Wait, what about lunch? All of us will still want to sit together and the others will know something's up if I'm too quiet. I can come up with a list of excuses. Aha! I'll be my usual self, but only sometimes. This way, my excuses will actually be believable. What about Commander Howlett? I wouldn't even dream of avoiding him, but I could put some space between us. He probably wouldn't say anything anyway since he won't be training me for much longer. Oh my gosh, Commander Howlett won't be training me for much longer! What do I do? I still want to see him and everything, but if I keep sneaking off, someone is bound to follow me. What would they think if I was constantly visiting the Interrogation Room? That could turn out bad real fast for both of us." I was so deep in thought, that I didn't even see Alex walking towards me and  that I had bumped his shoulder, hard.

"Watch where you're stepping Adams," Alex said rudely. I ignored him and kept walking. That was a mistake. "Hey, I'm talking to you!" he said aggressively.

"What?" I asked.

"Don't play games, you will  lose," Alex threatened me.

"I'm sorry, were you actually trying to talk to me?" I asked apologetically. Alex grabbed my shoulders.

"Let go of me," I said authoritatively. He slowly dug his fingers into my skin and I tried to squirm away.

"What are you going to do? The Commander isn't here to save you," Alex sneered.

"I don't need the Commander to save me from jerks like you."

"Oh really? You wanna bet?" Alex laughed. He tried to pull me into a choke hold, but I was too quick. I spun around and yanked his arm hard around the back of his body. I firmly stepped on his toes, so he couldn't run off and pulled his arm further back, further than his arms were supposed to go. He started to groan.

"You think you're so  tough, huh?" He tried to break free, so I tightened my grip. "It's useless, you have nowhere to run and there's no way I'm going to let you go, so you might as well stop struggling," I stated. To my relief, Alex did stop struggling, but I couldn't miss the panic on his face. He was scared and I relished it. Alex was sweating and he was starting to get short of breath. I knew if I didn't let go soon, that he would pass out. "Better make this quick," I thought.

"If you ever try to hurt me again, I swear I'll break your arm."

"You would really do that?" Alex squeaked with fear in his voice.

"No, I would make sure that you wouldn't be able to walk for a very  long time," I exaggerated. I let go and let him fall to the ground. He landed on his elbow hard and the rest of him didn't land too softly either. "Stop bullying me and my friends or else I'll make sure everyone knows that you and Chelsea are having sleepovers," I threatened.

"How do you know that?" Alex asked as he cradled his elbow and sat up.

"What makes you think I would tell you? Besides, your not exactly in shape to be the one questioning me, are you?" Alex glanced at his elbow and then up at me. He was going to say something when Vidia called my name from the other side of the hallway.

"Sarah, they're handing out our new quarter assignments and what Division we'll be in!" I looked up at Vidia and then back at Alex. I wanted to do more, but I knew that getting this information as soon as possible was very important. I raised my arm as if I was going to punch him. Alex covered his face and cowered against the wall. I guess I had gotten my point across. I quickly walked away, since Vidia was waiting up for me. I glanced over my shoulder at the still cowering Alex and squinted. He slowly got up and ran in the opposite direction. "What did you do or should I be asking what he  did?" Vidia asked.

"Nothing, I was only trying to scare him off for good," I answered matter-of-factly.

"Do you think it worked?"

"I'm pretty sure I got my point across," I answered.

"Good, because he definitely deserved it," Vidia smiled as we high fived each other and shared smiles.

Unfortunately, Alice and I are  in different Divisions. In fact, our whole team got separated. Alice was going to be a Computer nerd, Max is in Engineering, Katie wound up in the Hospital Wing (she's not hurt; her test results showed that her skills would best be used there), Vidia, of course, is in the Training Room, and I'm not quite sure what happened to me. I couldn't find my name on any of the lists and I was one of the lucky ones that didn't have to change quarters, even though I packed all my stuff up. I decided now would be the perfect time to visit the Interrogation Room. I figured nobody would notice since most everyone was moving in all over again. Commander Howlett's door was already open and he was searching for a file. I knocked on the door frame. "Is this a bad time?" I asked.

"No, come in. I was just looking for something," he said. I sat down and waited. He needed to know that I was concerned and confused. He must've found the file he was looking for because he turned around and immediately thumbed through it.

"What brought you back here? I thought you got your memory back," he teased.

"I did, but my name isn't on the list for any of the Divisions," I pointed out.

"About that," he looked up as he sat down in his chair, "let's see what happened to you." Commander Howlett picked up a file that was already sitting on his desk and opened it for me to read. I skimmed through it, but I was still confused.

"I don't understand. What's the big deal if I have a diverse personality? I've always had many layers."

"It's a big deal because you tested for being useful in almost every Division. That's a problem because I have no idea where to place you and I can't just put you where I can keep an eye on you," Commander Howlett explained.

"Can't you put me in a Division that fits my personality the best? Surely I scored higher for certain Divisions than others," I asked.

"You did, but you scored higher for 6 different Divisions instead of 2 or 3. It's very rare and extremely hard to achieve," Howlett said.

"What does that mean?" I asked worriedly.

"It means you have to decide by tonight and whatever you choose, you'll need to lay low."

"Wait, why do I need to lay low?" I asked.

"Because they'll be watching, they always are," Howlett said.

"Who?"

"S.H.I.E.L.D. They're looking for people who have special abilities."

"Like, superpowers or mind readers?" I asked.

"In a way, yes, but it's much more complicated than that," he told me.

"Then I shouldn't need to worry about it. I'll pick a Division that suits what I like most and focus entirely on skills that pertain to that Division and that Division only," I explained.

"It's a start, but even inside of whatever Division you choose, you'll need to be careful. Remember, I won't be there to train you anymore, S.H.I.E.L.D. will," Commander Howlett said. I scrunched up my face in confusion.

"But how...?" I trailed off.

"They're bringing in the higher ups."

"But why? What's wrong if you have special skills or not?" I asked. Commander Howlett was about to answer when Max poked his head in.

"Sorry to interrupt, but I have no idea where my new quarters are and nobody else seems to know either." Commander Howlett gestured for Max to come in.

"All right, let me see this," he said as he looked at the paper. "Ah, of course  they had to put you over there," Howlett said sarcastically as he piled some files in a stack on his desk. He got up as he was still staring at the paper. "Come on, let's take you to the Restricted Area."

"Commander, are you sure that's where I'm supposed to be?" Max asked unsurly.

"You'll see why when we get there," Commander Howlett answered. The two of them took off, leaving me alone in Commander Howlett's office. I wasn't trying  to get into his personal business, but I got curious about what the Commandos talk about in their meetings. I skimmed through a few files before I found something interesting; a file labeled "The S.H.I.E.L.D. Movement." I opened the file and quickly read through it. It wasn't much, just a bunch of names of the new Instructors and Commandos, but I found Mike's name. Well, a little more than that actually. I figured I had seen enough and went back to my quarters to unpack, again.

Later that night, the gang came to check up on me. "What's gonna happen to you? I mean, your name wasn't like, on the lists or anything," Katie asked.

"Yeah, and when I asked the Commander, he said there was a mistake in the system and that it would be fixed by morning," Max confirmed.

"I have no idea what happened, however, Commander Howlett said that I was one of the lucky ones that gets to stay in their quarters," I said.

"Really? After you packed everything up?" Vidia laughed. I was trying not to laugh at the idea of it to.

"Are you going to have any new roommates?" Alice asked.

"Nope, I'm going to have this room all to myself," I bragged.

"Lucky! I have to share a room with two other guys that I don't even know. It's like college all over again!" Max complained.

"At least you don't have to train stupid transfers that don't know a thing about this place," Vidia said.

"Hey! They're still considering me one of those 'stupid transfers' for another month!" Alice exclaimed.

"Good, that means I'll still get to see one of you at least," Vidia said hopefully. The room fell silent.

"What's going to happen to all of us? Cuz like, we're seriously only going to see each other at lunch and that's if  we're lucky," Katie asked.

"So it's true then? They're really going to split us up into different lunch areas?" I asked.

"Unfortunately, yes," Max answered.

"No matter what, we all agree to still be friends, right?" Vidia checked. We all nodded with big smiles on our faces. Vidia sighed with relief. "You're the only true family I've ever had. I don't want to lose any of you," Vidia said as she looked at each of us.

"We could still send mail to each other. It's not like they're going to cut off all  communication between everyone," Alice stated.

"That's awesome! I don't how I'd survive without my girl," Max said as he playfully nudged Katie. She blushed and nudged back. It was nice to see that someone could still find love.

"I'm going to have to go in ten minutes for my first briefing as an Instructor-in-training," Vidia said as she glanced at her watch. She then came and hugged me. Before I knew it, the gang was all tangled together in a group hug.
