Making A Decision
"Before we go, why don't we come up with a group name?" Max suggested.
"Like the Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers, the Justice League, Teen Titans, or something?" Alice asked.
"Exactly! Only, we're not superheroes or anything; it would be something to be a part of. Like a beacon of hope when we're feeling down," Max explained.
"Do you have any names in mind?" Vidia asked excitedly.
"I didn't think this through very well, the thought came to me when I woke up this morning."
"We could do something with the first letters of all our names? I don't know if they'd spell anything or sound cool in a certain order, but it would at least mean something to us," I said.
"How about S.A.K.V.M.?" Max asked. We shook our heads.
"It sounds like your trying to say socks," Katie admitted.
"What about S.A.V.K.M.?" Vidia suggested.
"It sounds too much like "Save Kim," Alice replied. I thought of the different ways we could use our initials, but only one sounded good enough to say. Alice came up with a similar one before I could.
"Do you guys like M.A.S.K.V.?" Alice tried. Everyone thought about it, but decided against it.
"I've got it! V.M.A.S.K.!" I pitched in.
"I like it! What do you think Katie?" Max agreed.
"It has pizazz. I love it!" Katie exclaimed.
"Sounds cool to me," Vidia said.
"It's decided then, V.M.A.S.K.!" Max exclaimed. "Eventually, we could come up with a team logo or a mark of some sort," Max thought aloud. Katie rolled her eyes and Vidia glanced at her watch again. Katie caught on real fast.
"Come on Max, I still need you to help me unpack everything," Katie said as she led him out the door.
"Let me know when you get all settled in and maybe we could hang out once a week?" Alice suggested.
"That sounds great! But I probably won't be settled in for another 2 days," I answered.
"I'll see you then," Alice said as she gave me a hug and left. Vidia waited until everyone was gone.
"I'm going to miss them," Vidia started, "But I'll miss you the most."
"Why is that?" I asked.
"Because you're the only one that understands me, the real me," she said. Surprisingly, Vidia gave me a big bear hug and I felt like she was hanging on for dear life. Vidia started to sniffle.
"If you need anything, you know where to find me," I said softly as Vidia pulled away.
"Can you promise me one thing?" Vidia asked as she blinked her tears away.
"Of course, anything."
"When the war is over, I'll have to go home. Only, I'm not going to go home-home. I'm going to get a place of my own. But if and when things get out of hand, will you let me come and visit?"
"Absolutely Vidia! Just give me a call so we can make sure you have somewhere to sleep," I answered. Vidia nodded happily and slowly backed out of the room, speechless.
I laid in bed and stared at the ceiling. "How am I supposed to make a life-changing decision in just a few hours?" I thought. I could go into Weaponry, Mechanic Engineering, Training, Computers, Secretary, or be a Pilot. There was no way I was going to be a Computers nerd or somebody's secretary. As cool as it would be to become a pilot, I didn't think I could learn everything quickly. That left me with Weaponry, Mechanic Engineering, and Training. Mechanic Engineering sounds like a bunch of fun, but I'm pretty sure that I'd be too good at it and that would only draw unwanted attention to myself.
"Weaponry or Training?" I thought deeply of all the different things that each Division offered, how I'd fit in, and more importantly, which one would be easier to keep a low profile in. Weaponry would teach me how to use a wide variety of different weapons, how to clean them, how to build them, and which ones to use in different scenarios. Training would offer how to do better hand-to-hand combat, vigorous exercises, fighting strategies, and what to do if you get caught by the bad guys. Either way, it would be fairly easy to blend in with everyone else. After almost an hour, I had made my final decision.
For the second time today, I was in the Interrogation Room. "What did you decide and please tell me you carefully thought it out," Commander Howlett asked.
"I'm going to stick with my Training. I think it will be more beneficial than Weaponry and much easier to blend in than any of my other results," I explained.
"Are you sure? I think you should've gone with Mechanic Engineer because S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn't pay much attention to that area," Commander Howlett reasoned.
"I didn't think the Engineering thing would be a good idea because I already know a lot about cars. Ever since mom..." I caught myself. "Think before you say things!" I criticized myself. "There was a time in my life when I needed some time to cool off and keep my mind from thinking such thoughts. My Daddy helped me by teaching me everything he knew about cars. Remember my suited up Mustang? Yeah, I sorta built that myself from scratch and used an old, rusty, Mustang for the frame and spare parts."
"Since you know cars like the back of your hand, you'd stick out like a sore thumb. S.H.I.E.L.D. would definitely notice and you'd be doomed; Smart move," Commander Howlett agreed. "Are you sure you're sure about continuing with your Training?" Commander Howlett asked.
"I'm sure," I said.
"Your positive?" Howlett double checked.
"Yes," I confirmed.
"Alright then, let me find your file here," he said as he rummaged through the massive stack of files on his desk. "Ah! Here it is," he said, grabbing a pen. Commander Howlett signed several lines and I had to sign my name a few times to. "I have to turn this in and you'll be good to go! Here's where you'll need to report on Monday and be sure that your not late. Otherwise, you could get kicked out," Commander Howlett warned.
"Good to know," I said as I made a mental note. I headed for the door, but Howlett stopped me.
"Sarah, what was all that about when you started to say something about your mother?" he asked.
"It's not important, it's in the past and I learned to move on with my life," I answered. I didn't want him asking me anymore questions, so I quickly left. 2 days is all the downtime I'll get before things get truly interesting around here.
