A Phineas and Ferb Quarantine Episode
The Flynn-Fletcher house. Phineas and Ferb are sitting on the couch, bored
Phineas: So... what do you want to do today?
Ferb shrugs.
Phineas: I agree. There's not much we can do today... What if we- nah... Or, what about- no... Or, how about... no. How would we even get the ostriches? I don't know Ferb. I'm all out of ideas.
Candace is on the phone with Stacy
Candace: I don't know, Stacy. As long as I have my phone and the internet and air conditioning, I think can wait out the two weeks, no--
Candace stops and acts as if she senses something.
Stacy, over the phone, concerned: Candace?
Candace: My brothers are up to something. I can feel it.
Stacy, confused: What could they possibly be up to?
Candace: I don't know yet, but they're gonna be so busted. There's no way mom won't be able to see it. She'll be stuck here all day! Call you back, Stacy.
Stacy: Wai‐‐
Candace hangs up and looks out the window into the backyard.
Candace, shouting: Phineas and Ferb! What are you‐‐
There is no one outside. Candace gets up and matches around the house in search of her brothers. She finds them in the living room.
Phineas: Oh, hey Candace.
Ferb waves.
Candace, suspiciously: What are you two doing?
Phineas: We don't know.
Candace, confused: You don't know? You're not making some kind of remote-controlled fly to fly around the house? Or turn the house into a bouncy castle? Or make a machine that turns you into holograms so you can visit your friends?
Ferb is writing down all of what Candace is saying.
Phineas: Maybe!
Phineas looks to Ferb with an inspired smile.
Candace: Well, whatever it is, I'm telling mom!
Candace marches off.
Phineas: Ferb! I know what we're gonna do today! We're going to hang out with our friends!
Ferb puts on a mask and gloves.
Phineas, laughing: No, not like that.
Phineas looks around the living room.
Phineas: Hey, where's Perry?
Perry is asleep on Phineas' bed when his wrist communicator goes off. He gets up and enters his lair through an entrance underneath it. Monogram and Carl each take up half of the screen. Monogram appears as if he had just gotten out of bed. Carl does not.
Monogram: Good morning, Agent P. Pardon the different layout. We've had to try some new software now that we've had to work from home.
Monogram: Doofenshmirtz has been- Carl, could you put the—
Carl: You kinda have to do that yourself, sir.
Monogram: How do I..?
Monogram clicks a button.
Monogram: Did it work?
Carl, shaking his head: No, sir. That didn't do anything. You're supposed to--
Monogram: I think I've got it. How about--
Monogram clicks another button. His microphone goes mute.
Carl: Nope, now you're muted.
Monogram says something that is not heard because he is on mute.
Carl: You're still on mute, sir!
Monogram fiddles around with the controls while still trying to speak.
Carl, while Monogram is "talking": Sorry about that, Agent P. Monogram is probably saying something along the lines of, "Doofenshmirtz is up to no good. Find out what he's up to and put a stop to it."
Perry salutes and exits the program. In Carl's perspective, Monogram is still on mute, frantically trying to figure out how to undo.
Carl, slightly annoyed: Just press the microphone button again. It's right next to--
Monogram leaves by accident. Carl sighs.
Phineas and Ferb are creating a device in their room. Ferb plugs it into their computer.
Phineas: Alright Ferb, let's give it a shot.
Ferb presses a button on the keyboard. The computer scans them.
Candace is walking around downstairs looking for the boys. The two suddenly appear in front of her.
Phineas: Hey Candace!
Candace screams.
Candace: How did you-?
Phineas: We turned ourselves into holograms so that we can still hang out with our friends while social distancing. Later Candace!
Phineas and Ferb fade out of view.
Candace, yelling and running up the stairs: M o m!
In the boy's bedroom. A hologram Candace fades out of view.
Phineas: Hey, it works! Let's get the other guys
Ferb opens a meeting with Baljeet, Isabella, and Buford who all appear on the screen.
Phineas: Hey guys!
Ferb waves.
Bajeet/Isabella/Buford: Hi/Hey/What's up?
Phineas: Do you guys wanna hang out today?
Baljeet, skeptical: You do realize we are in the middle of a pandemic, right?
Isabella: Yeah. As much as I would love to come over and see what you were doing and listen to you go on and on about the kind of invention you were building...
Isabella slowly trails off with a smile.
Baljeet clears his throat to snap Isabella back to attention.
Isabella: ... We're all confined to our houses!
Phineas: What if there was a way we could all get together without leaving the safety of our own homes?
Buford: What are you getting at, Dinner Bell?
Phineas: Ferb?
Ferb lifts the device into view.
Phineas: This is the Holographic Transporter! It can take us to anyone we want without us, or them, needing to go anywhere by making the other user into a hologram. We even rigged it so all of us could be together at the same time.
Baljeet: Holograms? So we would not be able to physically interact with one another? How is that any different than what we are doing right now?
Phineas: We may not be able to do the things that we used to, but we'll all be together! After all--
Ferb: --It's the togetherness that counts.
Baljeet: While I fail to see what kind of activities we could possibly indulge in, I am intrigued nonetheless!
Isabella: Count me in!
Buford: I'm down.
Phineas: Alright, you heard them, Ferb. Hit it!
Ferb activates the device. The cameras of their friends' computers scan them. Each of their friends fade into view around the boys. The same happens around the others. Buford's hologram is laggy in comparison to the others.
Baljeet: Buford! You are lagging!
Buford, lagging: I'm not lagging, You're lagging!
Phineas: Come on guys! Ferb's had a few ideas of what we could try!
In Perry's perspective, he doesn't exit the lair. Using the screen, he opens an email sent to him by Doofenshmirtz that has a link to a meeting. He clicks on it. Doofenshmirtz is now on the screen.
🎶Doofenshmirtz is in quarantine🎶
Doof: Ah, Perry the Platypus. How unexpected of you to join me. And by unexpected I mean completely... expected... I-I did invite you to join me. It would be rude if you didn't, uh... show up...
Doofenshmirtz is quiet for a moment as he looks around the room. Perry crosses his arms.
Doof: Anyway-- I suppose you're wondering about my evil plan. Well, you see, when I was a child in Gimmelshtump, I was quarantined for several months due two an illness that had plagued the country -- which, I found out later, was just the common cold -- and during such time, we couldn't go outside -- which, I guess is the definition of quarantine... Back then, our only knowledge of what was going on in the outside world was the newspaper, and that, on its own cost so much. We couldn't really afford it so didn't even realize the quarantine had ended until two months after the fact and-- Where was I going with this?
Doofenshmirtz stops to think. Perry rolls his eyes.
Doof, remembering: Oh yeah!
Doofenshmirtz gets up and walks to the covered machine behind him. He removes the tarp covering the inator.
Doof: Behold! The Connection-Intterupt-Inator! Nowadays, everyone gets their news from the internet and the TV, but with this, I can rid the entire Tri-State Area of connection! Internet! Phones! Cable Television! No one will be able to get information! Then, when everyone is desperate for news, I will launch my own -- virus safe -- paper route. But at a hefty cost. Since no one makes newspapers anymore, I will be the only competition!
Doofenshmirtz laughs maniacally for an extended period of time before it slowly dies down. He looks back at the meeting. Perry is no longer on the screen.
Doofenshmirtz, confused: Perry the Platypus? Well, that's rude. If you're just hiding, I hope you know you're being incredibly impolite!
Cue montage [with a song about being alone together or something. I don't know, I'm a writer, not a musician]
The kids (Phineas, Ferb, Baljeet, Isabella, and Buford) are running around the house in the downstairs area of the boy's (Phineas and Ferb) house in a game of tag. While the boys are actively avoiding the obstacles (walls, furniture), the others are either phasing through them or avoiding obstacles that don't seem to exist (as they are in their own home).
Buford is running when he stops due to a lag spike. Isabella rushes to tag him by phasing her hand through his hologram.
Isabella: Buford's it!
Buford's hologram teleports farther away and turns around to Isabella.
Buford: No I'm not, you didn't even touch me!
Phineas, walking from behind Isabella: I saw her. She tagged you, Buford. You're it.
Buford looks around him frantically and sees Baljeet beside him.
Buford: Well, now he's it.
Buford tags Baljeet. He and the other kids run away from him in different directions. Baljeet looks around for a moment, confused, before running in the direction Buford ran in.
Candace walks downstairs as Baljeet and Buford run past the stairs. Candace runs back up the stairs to find Linda walking down the hall holding a laundry basket.
Candace: Mom! Phineas and Ferb and their friends are running around the house.
Linda, skeptical: Candace, really? You couldn't think of anything more creative than that?
Candace: I'm not kidding! You need to come see!
Candace grabs Linda's arm, causing her to drop the basket, and runs down the stairs. Linda is struggling to keep up. Candace stops halfway down the stairs, seeing Isabella and Baljeet running around.
Candace, gesturing down the stairs, looking to Linda: See?
Isabella and Baljeet phase through the wall beneath the stairs. Linda catches up to Candace as Phineas and Ferb enter the living room, running.
Linda, calling out: Boys, be careful!
Candace turns back to look. She sees the boys slow down their running speed.
Linda: If you excuse me, Candace, I have laundry to get back to.
Linda walks back up the stairs. Candace grumbles under her breath. Isabella phases through the wall again and runs to Phineas and tags him. Buford and Baljeet enter the living room and immediately run away from Phineas, alongside Ferb and Isabella. Phineas runs after them.
~
The kids are playing a Pictionary-like game in the boys' living room (each kid has their own whiteboard/notepad to physically interact with). [This part is in a montage-like fashion (no audible words) as there is so much to go through in just so little time.]
It is Buford's turn. He draws a poorly drawn shape that's nearly impossible to make out. Isabella calls out an answer. It is correct.
On Isabella's turn, she quickly draws a realistic image of a horse, barely finishing the head before Baljeet calls an answer. He is correct.
Baljeet's turn. He does not draw an image, but a complex equation. Ferb speaks up, but is not actually shown speaking, and is instead shown raising his hand. He is correct.
It is Ferb's turn. He only draws a single line before Phineas pipes up. He is correct.
The montage continues as the kids take turns being the one to draw. Isabella's drawings are hyper-realistic. Baljeet only writes equations. Buford can only correctly guess Phineas' and Isabella's drawings. Ferb can only draw a line or two before Phineas answers. Isabella correctly guesses most of the answers, Buford, the least.
Candace walks downstairs to see the kids together, playing the game, and runs up the stairs to get Linda once again. Linda is in the office on the computer.
Candace: Mom! Phineas and Ferb are--
Linda: Candace, could this wait just ten more minutes?
Candace: But--
Linda: Please, Candace. I really need to get this done. Then I'll see what the boys are up to, okay?
Candace, defeatedly: Okay...
Candace defeatedly exits the office.
Back at Doofenshmirtz's building, he prepares his inator by pushing it out to the balcony.
Doof, to himself: I wonder where Perry the Platypus could have gone. Certainly, he couldn't have gone that fa--
Perry the Platypus plummets onto the balcony and punches Doofenshmirtz in the jaw, causing him to stumble backward.
Doof, startled: What?! Perry the Platypus?! What are you doing? You shouldn't be out here! There's a quarantine going on, in case you haven't noticed!
Perry: *platypus noise*
Doof: Oh, right, you're a platypus, and this is a human virus, so... You know, I don't really know how I forgot that.
Doofenshmirtz is quiet again for a moment. He looks around once more. Perry crosses his arms at this.
Doofenshmirtz gets back up and the two begin to fight.
Candace is in her room, texting on her phone. She hears the kids cheering from across the hall. She marches over to the boys' room and barges in. The kids are now in the boys' room playing video games. (The game is only shown from the boys' perspective, but each kid is seeing the game from their own perspective). As they celebrate, the kids all attempt to high-five one another. They all fall over, phasing into one another as they have forgotten they are still holograms. The kids all laugh as the puddle of children they ended up in.
Candace exits the room, angry.
Candace, yelling: Mom!
Linda, in the distance: In the kitchen, sweetie!
Candace marches down the stairs to the kitchen.
Linda, drying her hands with a towel: Alright, Candace, what do you want to show me?
Candace, sternly: This way. Come on!
Candace runs back up the stairs. Linda puts down the towel and follows Candace, but walks instead of runs.
Candace reaches the boy's room and smiles excitedly. Linda catches up to her. She hears the sound of the boys playing video games.
Linda: Candace, you want me to bust the boys for playing games?
Candace: No! It's how they're playing it! You just have to see!
Linda listens for a moment. She hears the kids all communicating, not realizing that all five of them are behind the door.
Linda: It sounds like they're just playing with their friends.
Candace: Exactly! Just go look!
Linda, putting a hand on Candace's shoulder: Candace, they're just trying to make the most of this situation. I suggest you do too.
Linda walks back down the stairs. Candace groans dejectedly.
In Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated, his and Perry's fight continues. Perry hits Doofenshmirtz with his tail, causing him to fall onto the ground. Doofenshmirtz gestures to Perry with his arms up.
Doof: Wait! Wai-wait!
Perry stops but does not let his guard down.
Doof: I forgot to put on my mask.
Doofenshmirtz reaches into the pocket of his lab coat. He pulls out a face mask and uses it to cover his face. His nose noticeably pokes out in the mask, but it still fits over it nonetheless.
Doof: Alright, I'm good.
Perry continues, kicking Doofenshmirtz in the face. Doofenshmirtz rolls back and runs into a pile of scrapped machine parts. He picks up a random part and throws it towards Perry. The part misses and hits the inator's random-fire button. The inator fires a single stray shot.
Doof, shocked: Wow! Good thing that hit the random-fire button and not the one next to it.
Directly next to the random-fire button is a self-destruct button. Perry runs over to the inator and presses the self-destruct button. The inator begins to shake violently.
Doof, unsurprised: Yep... that- that's the one.
Perry runs to the balcony of the building and looks back to Doofenshmirtz who quietly sits on the ground where he landed before, unamused.
Doof, unamused and gesturing Perry to leave: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just go. Curse you, Perry the Platypus.
Perry jumps off the balcony donning his jet pack. As he flies away, the inator on the balcony explodes.
The boys and their friends are in the backyard. Of course, each of their friends are in their own backyard. The kids are lying in the grass and looking at the sky.
Baljeet: I had my doubts, but I will admit, I did have fun today.
Isabella: Me too! We should do this again sometime soon.
Buford: Yeah, an--
Buford is cut off by another lag spike. He is frozen in place. The remainder of the kids sit up and look around at each other, concerned. Buford is frozen for a few more seconds.
Buford: -- fish sandwiches! Right guys?
Baljeet, confused and slowly lying back down: Yes, Buford... fish sandwiches...
Buford: I don't know what you're talking about, but a fish sandwich sounds good right now.
Candace is angrily pacing around her room.
Candace, grumbling to herself: Make the most of this... Make the most of this? I am making the most of this! I'm trying to bust my brothers! Is that so hard?
Candace looks out the window and sees the kids laying in the grass. Candace giggles maliciously.
Candace, from her bedroom door: Mom!
Linda, in the distance: Give it a rest, Candace!
Candace: Just look out the window! You'll see!
It is quiet for a second.
Linda: That's a nice lawn we have, dear.
Candace: No mom, just- where are you?
Linda opens her bedroom door and pops her head out. (Her room is on the opposite end of the house from Candace's room. Her bedroom window faces the front yard, not the back)
Linda: I'm in my room, Candace.
Candace exits her room and grabs Linda's arm.
Candace: Come on mom, let's go.
Candace, once again, begins dragging Linda down the stairs.
Outside with the kids.
Phineas: So, what do you guys want to do tomorrow?
The stray beam from the Connection-Interrupt-inator flies towards the house and into the boy's bedroom window, hitting the Holographic Transporter.
Isabella: Maybe we could--
Isabella's, Baljeet's, and Buford's holograms all fade out of view. The boys are now alone in the backyard. They sit up.
Phineas: That's odd. Maybe the Holographic Transporter is acting up. Let's go check it out.
The boys stand up and walk to the house.
Just out of view, Perry lands at the side of the house. He opens the secret door to his lair and enters it instead of immediately proceeding to the boys. The entry tube slides him into the lair where a decontamination tank sits in the far-off corner of the lair. Perry enters the tank.
Candace is now downstairs with Linda. Phineas and Ferb enter the house through the back door. The four meet in the living room.
Phineas: Hi mom, hi Candace!
Ferb waves
Candace, pointing to the boys: See, look. Holograms!
Linda bends down to the boys' height and ruffles their hair. Phineas chuckles and Ferb smiles.
Linda, teasing: Yes, Candace. Holograms.
Candace, flabbergasted: Wha- Wha..?
Linda, standing up: Alright, who wants cookies?
Phineas: I do!
Ferb raises his hand.
Linda begins walking to the kitchen. Candace just stands in the living room, dumbfounded. Perry enters the room. Phineas sees him on his way to the kitchen.
Phineas: Oh, there you are, Perry.
Phineas reaches down to pet Perry and retracts his hand when he feels his wet fur.
Phineas: Perry, you're all wet! Looks like it's time for a bath.
Perry sighs.
