Zara
Once everyone had left, Harley took it upon herself to show me all the rooms around the house. When that was done, she deposited me in what was going to be my room.
"I'll leave you to get settled," Harley said before leaving.
I looked around the room. It was simple enough with a double bed, a wardrobe, a chest of drawers, a nightstand on either side of the bed and a desk and chair.
I hopped onto the bed and sat cross-legged, leaning back on my arms. I had no luggage so I didn't need to unpack, and I had no phone so there was nothing to entertain me, so I simply stared at the roof as I tried to dig through my memories. But no matter how hard I thought, no matter how deep I dug, I ended up with the same thing each time.
Nothing.
A knock sounded on the door followed by a voice, "it's Elliot."
"Come in," I exhaled, falling back onto the bed and keeping my eyes on the roof.
Elliot didn't say anything for a long moment, and I thought he was still by the door when I suddenly felt a slight dip in the bed.
"What are you thinking?" He asked beside me.
"How I can get a hold of that cap of yours and sell it for a time machine," I answered.
Elliot snickered, "what are you really thinking, Zara?"
I sighed and slithered off the bed to sit on the ground. I leaned my head back against the edge of the bed and kept my gaze on the roof. "I'm trying to remember."
"Remember what?"
"Anything," I told him. "And everything."
A short silence followed and then Elliot came and sat beside me on the ground. He sounded like he was about to say something when a voice suddenly called from downstairs.
"Ellie!" Jess called, her call getting louder as she came closer. "Ell—!" She poked her head through the door then smiled, "there you are."
"Yeah, I'm here," Elliot said, and something about his tone had me looking at him only to find he was looking at me. "I'm here," he repeated, telling me that those words were directed at me and not Jess. "If you want to talk, I'll be here."
Jess entered the room and plopped herself down in between Elliot's legs before leaning back against him.
"Hey," she said.
"Hey," he greeted back, and if I didn't know any better, I would say that he looked stiff all of a sudden.
"Hey!" I announced my presence, afraid I was going to witness something I would prefer not to. "I'm still here you know, and if I can't take part in what you're about to do, please don't do it in front of me."
Elliot suddenly whipped his head in my direction, an unreadable expression on his face, "what did you just say?"
"What did I just say?" I asked, confused that my words got such a reaction from him.
Elliot blinked, his mind working, but then he just shook his head, "nothing, never mind."
From downstairs, Jess' name was called, making her sigh. "That's my cue, babe," Jess turned to face him, running a finger up and down his chest. "I should have come with my car so that I could have stayed a little longer. But then again if I want to catch a shower before it gets too cold, then I need to leave. Although I wish that— "
"Okay," I interrupted, feeling highly uncomfortable. I jumped to my feet and stated, "you guys are cute and all, but please, you look like you want to start making babies so can you go do that in your room." Shock overtook their features, making satisfaction overtake mine.
Jess' name was called again and she rose to her feet. She planted a quick kiss on Elliot's lips. "I gotta go now, love you."
Elliot only smiled in response, but it didn't quite reach his eyes.
"I made you uncomfortable right?" I asked Elliot once Jess was gone. "I know the feeling."
Elliot's brows bunched at that moment and then he stood, not taking his eyes off of me. "You're doing a lot of the things you did when you were with them," he said softly, and I knew now wasn't the time, but I had to hand it to my cousin, he was extremely good-looking. I knew we were distant cousins and all, but I kinda wished I had inherited some of the genes he had. Even Harley was good-looking, and I knew for a fact that she would be attracting guys left, right and centre when she was my age.
"What?" I asked, eventually making sense of his words. "With who?"
"You purposefully made us uncomfortable because we made you uncomfortable?" He asked.
"Yeah, it was only fair that you felt the way I did. And no," I added, raising a finger, "it's not the same thing as revenge because my aim wasn't to get you back, it was to get you to understand how I felt so you didn't do it again."
"That sounds a lot like revenge," Elliot commented, grinning.
"Whatever," I rolled my eyes.
Elliot looked at me for a moment longer, "would you like to take a shower?"
"What? Is that your way of telling me I stink?" I raised a brow.
He didn't miss a beat when he shrugged and said, "being indirect seemed more polite."
"Wait, are you serious?"
"I'm surprised you couldn't smell yourself." He leaned forward and did a little sniff before gagging.
"Hey!" I swatted his arm, willing myself not to laugh. "You think you're funny, don't you?"
"Who said anything about thinking?"
I rolled my eyes again but sniffed my pits, "I don't even smell."
Elliot laughed, "I mean, if you say so."
I narrowed my eyes at him, only making his smile widen. He placed his hands on my shoulders and led me to the bathroom.
"I am capable of walking on my own, thank you very much," I commented.
"You aren't capable of smelling your own stench, so I doubt it."
I stopped and spun on my heels, facing Elliot with narrowed, "you wouldn't be this close to me if I stank."
"I've got a blocked nose."
"Then how can you smell me?"
"My intuition is telling me you stink."
"Well, then your intuition stinks."
Slowly, Elliot's lips curved into a grin. "You don't mind this, do you?"
"Mind what?"
"Me teasing you? I know some people who hate it."
"Some people like?"
"Jess."
"Oh," was all I said. "Well, no. I don't mind."
"Good," his grin reappeared. "Then go shower, Stinky."
"Hey!" I laughed despite myself. He was enjoying this far too much. "Okay, I change my mind. You can't tease me anymore."
He leaned down and whispered, "too late," before leaving.
