The grave of the fireflies

The rest of her day had gone without any sorts of interruptions, except the occasional resentful gazes sent her way, she had successfully managed to avoid her situation with Steven. He still hadn't explained his sudden leave and withdrawal. Did I manage to push another person out of my life? She wondered.

Now she was sitting on a bench in the neighbourhood park. With her eyes on the children laughing as they pranced around in a hurry to catch each other, she clenched her hands. The sound of their laughter was addicting, it reminded her of of the faint memories of her childhood. Memories of her family, of her sister. Her grip tightened, a frown stuck on her lips, she would be 19 today, was the only thought on her mind.

She got up, unclenching her hands, and strode forward. Her vision blurred as her footsteps came to a stop in front of the big oak tree. The tree was still thriving, its bark wafting off a faint smell of freshness. She laid her hands on its trunk, fingers following the uneven wooden lines as she crouched in front of it.

This was her favourite spot. Her mind failed to wander as she took in the faded carvings on its base.
A+N 4EVER.
The first set of tears rolled down her cheeks as she stubbed the urge to wail out her grievances for she knew no one would be listening to her now, she would not have slender fingers rubbing her back in a soothing manner anymore, nor will she ever see those beautiful hazel brown eyes.

Anamika was dead. In all intents and purposes, she was completely and utterly gone from this world, with a one way ticket to the other side.

At times like these she often questioned whether there was a heaven somewhere up there. She wondered if Anamika was happy, whether she could watch her sister from where she was. But then, her mind would instantly shut down this trail of thoughts, she was dead. Never again would they laugh and chase each other, never again would she hear those sweet little I love you's, not ever.

They had spread her ashes around this tree,  for she considered it to be her safe haven. This tree meant great things to Naina, something like that green light which enthralled Gatsby when he thought of his beloved. Anamika never failed to express her love for this tree, she could still clearly recall the last time they'd been here together.
They'd been catching fireflies, for it seemed like the nest thing to do. Anamika insisted on taking some home, so she trapped them in her hands and took off. She still remembers the care with which her sister carried those fireflies, carefully releasing them in a jar once we reached back. She'd stayed up the whole night just to watch them glow, after a few hours however, her eyes closed and she succumbed to sleep. Naina, who'd stayed in her own room, found her behaviour to be quite strange. But, she didn't question it and slept peacefully the whole night.
The next day, they woke up to find all of the fireflies dead in the jar. Anamika cried really hard that day, they'd buried those fireflies right under the oak tree in the park, she'd wanted them to be at home.
Anamika had sweetly asked her a question which was imprinted on her mind still,
"Why do fireflies die so soon?"
Precisely two years later, she herself ceased to exist.

She grunted, breathing hard in an attempt to push back her tears and calm down. After a few minutes, she got up on her feet, raised up her head and took a deep breath. It's gonna be ok, it's gonna be just fine. She'll live. Her eyes opened, no traces of the moment of weakness was left on her cheeks. She started walking again, this time without aim.

I know it's very short, but I kind of got stuck. I'll make sure that the next chapter is longer.

P.S. I discovered an anime movie with the same name! And I got enthralled, the last dialogue is taken from there, watch it if you have time. It's really great!
