When we walked into the house, I saw a note by the door.
Ems, please let Pretzel out and let him run around for a few minutes. Throw him a tennis ball or something. After, come to the hospital. Don't freak out, everything is fine. Love you.
- mom and dad.
"Someone let the dog out and bring a tennis ball with you out there." I demand. Charlie calls him and takes him out. "And you two," I point at Carlos and Shayna, "there's a small cooler by the fridge. Put some food and drinks in there just in case we get hungry. Okay?" They both nod and run into the kitchen.
I go upstairs to my room to see if I need anything. Nothing I see. I go to Garrett's room and saw his teddy bear he had since his kid years and I grab it and found a bag to put it in. I remember i need my phone charger (just in case), and my wallet, so I run into my room to get them and I put them in the bag. I run down the stairs and Shayna and Carlos are ready and sitting on the couch and Charlie comes inside with Pretzel and snow just comes pouring down. I sigh and lean on the banister with my hand on my hand.
They all walk over and Charlie puts his arm around me. "It's okay, we will get there, trust me." I hug him and the other two comes into the hug.
"I'll know he will be okay. I just miss him."
"We know you do." Shayna says.
It stops snowing and we all get ready. "Hey, do you guys just want to get a cab or get Uber?" Carlos suggests and we all give him nods. I say, "I'll call." I call and about 25 minutes later, a cab comes into the front of the house. We all run to the cab and when we enter the car, the cab driver looks very confused. "Um, sorry, I think I came to the wrong place," he said with his Spanish accent.
"You didn't. We need to get to the hospital on 44th street. There's no time to explain." I reply to him.
"Okay ma'am." Huh, I like that. I barely hear that here in Minnesota.
We arrive at the hospital and I try and pay the cab driver, but he won't let me, so I just gave up. One by one, all of us run in to the lobby and go to the front desk. "Um, hi. I'm the sister of Garrett Cade. I believe my parents, are both in his room." She nods and clicks the computer mouse. She looks up and tells me what room he's in and where to go and we run of.
***
I open the door of the room and see my parents sitting on one side of his bed with their backs against the door and then they turn to see all four of us in the doorway.
"You're here early, Emilia." Mom says.
