Prologue
Lilith knew very well what she was in for when she landed a job as a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum. That these super-criminals were not to be taken lightly.
She was currently in her office, filling out paperwork. A folder for each patient she had sessions with that week, they had to be filled out and signed and given to her boss. A progress report of sorts. Absentmindedly grabbing the next folder in her stack, without looking at the name. Once she saw it, her face fell into a frown.
Crane, Jonathan.
A.K.A The Scarecrow
He was her first patient when she started, having to replace Doctor Kellerman as he recovers from his exposure to Fear Gas. She knew Crane was a former doctor here at Arkham, who had been using his patients for expirements with a fear-inducing toxin he created. Once caught by Batman, he now resides in Arkham as a patient, instead of doctor.
Her door opened, she looked to see two guards escort Crane into the room and sat him in the chair across from Lilith's desk. One of the guards freed his hand and from the handcuffs and cuffed it to the chair instead. His bright blue eyes wandered the room, observing each detail before they landed on Lilith as the guards waited outside for protection without intruding on the patient's privacy.
She reached for the recorder, turning it on and placed it on her desk in the center. Lilith flipped through Crane's file, skimming over it, before clearing her throat. "Patient's name is Jonathan Crane, age 33. Here at Arkham for a third time for threatening Gotham City with his latest toxin." She said, her raising her voice loud enough that the recorder could pick it up.
"How are you today?" Lilith asked, her softly. In past sessions, her results with Jonathan have been inconclusive. She hoped this time would be different, but knew better.
"I've been well." Jonathan answered. His voice distant, nothing like past interviews. He was usually confident, fearless. Lilith leaned forward, "Doctor Crane," She remembered that he despised being called anything other than Doctor, the least she could do is follow his request. "You hardly participated during your previous sessions with Doctor Kellerman. Is there a reason for this?"
"Stephen's mind was weak. He bored me." Jonathan told her.
"So you used your fear gas on him, for he has a weak mind?" Lilith questioned
"Of course. He was no use being a doctor here, wouldn't you agree?"
Lilith remained silent and went to ask another question, but Jonathan beat her to it. "Let me ask you something, Doctor Matthews." He said, finally looking up to meet her dark eyes. "Everyone else is terrified of me and what I can do to them. Why not you?"
Lilith was unfazed by this, "I don't see how this is relevant to you." She said.
"Humor me, Doctor." Lilith took a deep breath, she knew he was trying to turn this on her, but she refused. "This session is for you, not me."
Jonathan looked as if he had something else he wanted to say, but crossed his arms and remained silent. The door opened and a guard tapped his watch, signaling that Lilith was out of time.
"There is still much to discuss, but I'm afraid we've come to the end of our session." Lilith said, standing up from her chair. The guards walked into the room and moved the handcuffs back onto Jonathan's wrists.
Lilith looked up at Jonathan and saw his eyes darkened. "Interesting choice of words. Good seeing you, Doctor Matthews."
Lilith ignored his comment and spoke as she switched off the recorder., "I will see you again in a week."
She looked down at her report and frowned. The session was different from the others, the only thing similar was that it also inconclusive. Just like with Doctor Kellerman, Jonathan managed to dodge the session completely, and had tried to turned it around on her.
"Well, he was one of the greatest minds in Arkham..." She muttered to herself, picking up her pen, filling out the report. It was extremely short, barley any progress to write. After Lilith signed the file, she sets it aside and continued her desk work.
