Verdict
I knew that there were a lot of innocent people ended up in jail, sometimes they will be there for the of their life screaming for their innocence.
I couldn't imagine that it was going to happen to me, maybe not, but most probably yes.
Now. I wondered how much should I pay? Would I really go to jail?
"I wanted to run," I said to him.
"You know, you couldn't do that," he reminded me.
"I knew that! "
To be honest, If I woke up without hearing the verdict I would be mad.
"Relax," he said. I am going to kill this snake. Between the two of us, he was the one who looked more nervous. He literally was shaking.
"No. You relax, you looked like you wanted to run. Maybe we could run away together," I suggested.
"No. That was a very bad idea. "
"Just a suggestion," I smirked.
When we arrived at the courtroom, everyone looked at us. I guess, I sort of a celebrity now. They started mumbling about something, I couldn't hear it. I hoped it was not about my face. They mysterious guy named Aziel Hendrik looked at me and smirked, now I always knew why everyone was on his side.
He really was handsome, and by the looked of his suit, he was probably rich too. Life was unfair, the rich always had it all. His personality sucked anyway.
We stand there waiting for the verdict. I already know the answer, I didn't need a drum roll.
"In the case of 2022 ABC( 2x+y) ², intercepting a century old tradition by helping the victim," he started. That sounded like some example in my algebra class, sounds familiar too.
"We find the defendant guilty," I heard them cheering because of the verdict.
Crap. Am I going to jail?
~°•°•°•~~°•°•°•~~°•°•°•~
"The sentencing will be tonight at the time of crows cry, " Mr. Balelsky said. He looked so defeated.
"I didn't even know what that means," I said.
But it didn't matter. I was guilty of helping the man by intercepting tradition or the other way around? It didn't matter, it wouldn't matter now.
I looked at the door. Someone will knock on that door soon, and then my future will be decided. I didn't know what was outside this courtroom, if there was fairies or unicorns outside. At least the Everwade Manor, or the villages. Why did I end up in a courtroom anyway.
"Are you okay? " My lawyer asked.
"You didn't look okay, " I said.
He laughed, " I sometimes lose cases, it was normal. I guess. "
"Sure. What kind of punishment did you think I will receive? "I asked him.
"This was your first time, so I guess they will be a little bit lenient," he replied.
"I sure hope so."
I wonder what kind of jail this world have? Did they have amazing food there? I heard prison food didn't taste good in our world, but it could be different in this world.
"Your father wouldn't be here. I'm sorry," I looked at him and noticed that he was holding a phone.
"Who's father?"
Father? Like Dad? My dad in my world, or I have a different father. I bet he was a different than in my world. He sounded like a deadbeat father, no show in his daughter's sentencing.
"Evelyn—"
"Wait. It didn't matter. I need to focus on the most important part, my sentencing. I might end up in the worst jail! "
I needed to keep myself calm and stop thinking about everything. I need to focus about the sentencing and my feet, so if I could get a chance, I would run. Unless if the sentencing was kinda acceptable on my part, but if it was not. I need to complain. I have my rights!
I should have thought about my rights before taking the stand. I forgot all about that. I mean, everything felt so messy and confusing. And I didn't know how to use my brain for this kind of problems.
I heard a knocked on the door, that was it. That was it, my future. I could see it disappearing right in front of my eyes. I did it. I helped a man, and I have to be punished by that. It was the elf last time, he greeted us then continue walking. We followed him, no one speak during the walk. We didn't have any topic anyway.
"Goodluck to me," I said before entering the courtroom.
We were in our respective seats. I guess everyone was nervous about what will be the punishment for me. I was nervous, but sleepy. I didn't know why.
It could mean, I was going to faint but maybe I was just tired of everything that's happened. This was definitely a weird night. I would never forget about this, and maybe wrote a book about this incident. It could be fun.
I took a deep breath when I saw the judge reading a paper. That was it, my shattered future. It was waving at me and I wish, I could wave back.
"I hereby sentence you a lifelong marriage to the victim, and an infinite algebra equation to answer," the judge smirked. Wait, come to think of it, if I looked closely, he did look like my Algebra professor.
"So ordered," he added.
"Wait. What?! What kind of sentencing was that?! " I exclaimed. Now. I really wanted to wake up. As expected everyone gasped, then they cheered. All of the sudden bubbles and colorful confetti appeared, the creatures started singing. A band appeared, the judge was playing the violin!
This was a disaster. I looked at my lawyer and he was dancing too. Traitor!
What was happening? I saw him slowly walking towards me, I tried to run away, but I slipped and then everyone started coming at me.
Suddenly a bright light appeared out of nowhere, it was blinding. I closed my eyes, and slowly the murmuring of these creatures came to a halt.
