Third Person's POV

We start in Station Square as it is nighttime, and Tails and Turbo are flying in the X-Tornado "The X Tornado seems to be running really great since we installed the Chaos Emerald. This has to be just about the smoothest flight We've ever been on. Huh Turbo?" Tails asks "Yeah" Turbo said and the Chaos Emerald begins glowing "I think it's picked up something" Turbo said when suddenly the X-Tornado begins shaking "I can't control it! ... Something's pulling us off course!" Tails said and Turbo spots a baseball stadium and flies toward it "Maybe there's a Chaos Emerald there" Turbo said and a man in the baseball stadium waves his arms "Stop! Stoooop!" The man said and Tails pulls up in the nick of time "Better go down there" Tails said as the man stares after the X-Tornado in astonishment. Later, Tails lands the X-Tornado in front of the stadium. He and Turbo begin to look around, ascending a staircase toward a bright light, which happens to be the stadium lights. They squint at the blinding lights, but are amazed at the beauty of the stadium. Tails spins his tails and flies over to the home plate and Turbo jumps down next to him before looking around. Turbo catches sight of the man he saw earlier, who is working on a ridable lawn mower.

"Excuse me, sir!" Turbo said but the man doesn't hear him "Hello! ... Yo!" Tails said and finally the man looks up and Tails and Turbo put on cute faces and the man cowers behind the lawn mower "Ah! Keep away!" The man said "Huh? We're sorry! It's just We were in our plane and the Chaos Emerald started glowing and- don't worry, mister, We won't hurt you" Turbo and Tails said and the man starts to come out from behind the lawn mower. Soon, Tails and Turbo are sitting with the man on the bleachers "Sure is some story, little fellas. Never would have guessed that was you two flying that plane up there" the man said "I'm sorry if We frightened you just now, sir. We've never seen a stadium as pretty as this before. You know... the grass is practically glowing!" Turbo said and Tails nodded "Thanks for the compliment. Lots of folks say the turf here at Diamond Stadium is the best in the world. Which makes me happy, because I've been the groundskeeper here at Diamond for thirty years!" The man said "Thirty years?" Tails asks "You bet! Only I'm afraid today's my last day here at the old place" the man said and Turbo and Tails look at the stadium "You see, the Diamonds' manager wants to build an indoor stadium with artificial turf, so this place is gonna be demolished" the man said "I tell you, leaving this place behind feels like the end of an era. By the way, little fellas, did you two mention something about an emerald?" He asks "Yeah" Turbo said and fishes out his green Chaos Emerald and holds it out for the man to see "See, We're looking for an Emerald just like this one. It's called a Chaos Emerald" Turbo said "A wha...? Would this be what you're looking for?" The man asks and to Tails and Turbo's surprise, the man reaches into his pocket and pulls out a cyan Chaos Emerald "Ah! A Chaos Emerald!" Tails said "I saw it laying next to the dumpster a couple of nights ago. Wasn't sure what it was" the man said and suddenly the two emeralds begin to glow brightly. They create a beacon of light that ascends into the air.

Pedestrians and drivers stop what they are doing to see the beacon "What is that?" A pedestrian asks as Scarlet Garcia and her crew also see the light while on lunch break. Even Knuckles and Ralph see the beacon from outside Station Square "I know that light.." Knuckles said "There's two emeralds there" Ralph said.

At Eggman's Base, Decoe points to the screen "Dr. Eggman! Dr. Eggman! You might want to take a look at this, sir!" Decoe said "What is that light?" Eggman asks "It appears to be coming from the baseball stadium" Decoe said "A stadium, you say? Fascinating..." Eggman said and opens a drawer containing baseball equipment, and picks up a baseball "I have a feeling there's an Emerald out in that diamond..." Eggman said.

*Meanwhile at the Thorndyke Mansion in the living room*

Sonic, Brody and their friends, minus Tails and Turbo, are seated around the table for supper. Sonic and Brody are eating apples "Let's start with our first course. Which knife and fork should we use?" Ella asks and Amy studies the silverware before selecting the outermost fork and knife "Uh... These!" Amy said and giggles "I agree" Cream said "Chao chao!" Cheese said "That's right! You're such smart children. And what good manners!" Ella said "I don't see why we have to learn all this "etiquette" baloney in the first place" Brody said "My mom says it's important to learn good manners so we can eat properly" Chris said "Well, Brody and I never learned anything about manners and We've been eating our whole life" Sonic said and Tanaka leans in toward Sonic and Brody as they bite into an apple "Sonic and Brody, kindly use your fruit knife" Tanaka said "I wonder what's keeping Turbo and Tails? They should be back by now" Chuck said and everyone stops as they hear laughter. They see Bokkun flying into the room. Notably, he is wearing a baseball cap "Sorry, I didn't know it was meal time. But Dr. Eggman's got a real important message for ya!" Bokkun said and Sonic, Brody and Tanaka immediately confront Bokkun "Not again!" Sonic and Brody said "How dare you barge in on us like this! You need to learn some manners!" Tanaka said "Eh, that's what you say" Bokkun said and turns on the television he is carrying "Good evening, Sonic and Brody. I suggest you two take a look out your window" Eggman said "The window?" Sonic asks and he, Brody, Chris, and Chuck head to the window "What is it?" Chuck asks "That light's coming from a Chaos Emerald!" Cream said "Is she right?" Chris asks "You're half right, Cream. But that's not just one Chaos Emerald" Brody said "Correct. We both want those Emeralds, but why not be good sports about it? That's why I suggest you suit up and meet me over..." Eggman said and disappears and returns wearing his baseball gear "...at the Diamond Stadium!" Eggman said "Diamond Stadium?" Tanaka asks "What for?" Chuck asks "I challenge you and your friends to a game of winner-take-all baseball!" Eggman said and laughs as the television's screen fades to black. Sonic and Brody appear flustered "You guys might be a little rusty, so how about some batting practice?" Bokkun asks "Uh-oh" Sonic and Brody said and Bokkun replaces the television with a baseball bat. He tosses a ball into the air, then spins the bat wildly, hitting many balls in the direction of everyone else in the room. Amy and Cream duck while Chris, Sonic, Brody, Tanaka, and Chuck try to avoid the balls. Finally Ella grabs Bokkun "You got a decent swing, but you keep hitting it foul!" Ella said and throws Bokkun out the window "What kind of pitch was that?" Chris asks "I think it was a screwball" Chuck said "We have to get to that stadium!" Sonic and Brody said. Soon everyone is driving to Diamond Stadium with their baseball equipment, and Sonic and Brody run ahead of them.

*Later at the Diamond Stadium*

The light from the Chaos Emeralds finally fades "What just happened there, little fellas?" The man asks "That always happens when Chaos Emeralds come together. I just hope the wrong person didn't see it" Turbo said and he and Tails look up to see Eggman laughing in his Eggmobile, wearing his baseball gear "Well, if it isn't my foxy high-flying friend and his foxy boyfriend" Eggman said "Dr. Eggman!" Turbo and Tails said and Eggman laughs, then looks around "Huh? Where's the rest of your team? It's almost game time!" Eggman said "Forget about it! You want the Chaos Emeralds, but We won't give 'em to ya!" Turbo said "Could it be Sonic, Brody and their pals are choosing to forfeit? I must say, that's very unsportsmanlike of them" Eggman said "If there's one thing I hate more than a meddling hedgehog and a meddling wolf, it's quitters!" Eggman said "I don't get it. What are you talking about?" Tails asks "If they won't play ball with me, I still win!" Eggman said and a claw protrudes from the bottom of the Eggmobile. It tries to grab the Chaos Emerald from Turbo, but he leaps out of the way. The claw turns toward the man "W-What's goin' on here anyway?" The man asks and after a struggle, the claw sucessfully takes the Chaos Emerald from the man "Oh no! He's got the Emerald!" Tails said and the Chaos Emerald is then deposited into Eggman's open hand "One down, one to go. Hand it over. I want it fair and square. Now give me that second Emerald or I'll have to use a force play!" Eggman said "I'd like to see you try it!" Turbo said as Tails flyes him onto the field and the two flee from the claw, which pursues them. Suddenly Knuckles and Ralph appear from nowhere "Tails! Turbo!" Ralph and Knuckles said with one hefty punch, the two smash the claw "That was close. You two all right?" Knuckles asks "Knuckles! Ralph! Are We glad to see you!" Turbo said "Well, look who it is. I like your costume" Ralph said "You two again! And what brings you here? Doing Sonic and Brody's dirty work?" Eggman asks "Let's get out of here, Tails and Turbo" Ralph said "Okay!" Tails and Turbo said and just then Sonic and Brody zoom in, circles Tails, Turbo, Ralph and Knuckles a few times, and stop in front of them "Hey. How's it goin', Knuckles and Ralph?" Sonic asks "Well, if it isn't Sonic and Brody. I thought you two weren't going to show up, so I took one of the Emeralds and I was just collecting the second" Eggman said and the Thorndykes and the rest of Sonic and Brody's friends arrive "But now that you're here, maybe we can play ball" Eggman said "All right, just give us back that Chaos Emerald!" Brody said "All in good time, my speedy little opponent. But first let me introduce you to my fellow teammates" Eggman said and a massive dropship appears overhead and a beam of light appears underneath the dropship, and several E-21 Ballios robots are beamed down to the ground "They're scaring me, Amy!" Cream said "It's okay" Amy said and soon, Eggman stands with his entire Ballios baseball team "Not too shabby, eh? Now why don't we knock off the pre-game ceremonies and get to the reason we're all here. It's now game time!" Eggman said "Let's play ball!" Decoe and Bocoe said "You can't have your game here!" Turbo said "Wait. It just so happens old Grandpa Chuck here's a big baseball fan from way back" Chuck said and Turbo and Tails look in confusion "A nice, friendly game of baseball sounds like a great idea to me" Chuck said "What? But Chuck..." Tails said and Eggman laughs "Ah, so you;re Chuck, are you? Well, it's been a great pleasure to finally meet you. A ball game must sound most exciting after being cooped up in that laboratory of yours day after day" Eggman said "Hey! If you want to have a ball game, then you have to have it someplace else! Isn't anybody listening to us?!" Turbo asks "Well, Eggman, if the others are up for it, I would be more than happy to accept your challenge" Chuck said "But you can't have your game here! You're gonna ruin all the beautiful turf!!" Tails said "What's those loudmouth foxes getting so bent out of shape for?" Decoe ask "Who knows" Bocoe said "Hey! We'll have you know this stadium means a lot to our friend!" Turbo and Tails said "It's okay, Turbo and Tails" the man said and Tails and Turbo look up to him "Only a matter of time before it's demolished anyway" the man said "Have I seen you somewhere?" Chuck asks "Maybe during the seventh inning stretch. My name's Albert Butler. I'm the head groundskeeper here" Albert said "Ah! I thought you looked familiar. I've seen you on television! You were good friends with the owner of the Diamonds, Elmer Johnson, right?" Chuck asks "Wow, you know him?" Chris asks "...Elmer and I don't talk much anymore" Albert said and Chuck cries happily "This is such an honor to think that I can play baseball in the world-famous Diamond Stadium!" Chuck said "Stop blubbering and let's play baseball!" Eggman said "Okay" Amy said "How do we play?" Cream asks "Chao chao?" Cheese asks "Alright, everybody! Time for the Chaos Emerald Baseball Playoff!" Chuck said and Eggman pushes Chuck aside "It's the First Annual Eggman Intergalactic Baseball Challenge!" Eggman said "This is sad" Knuckles said sweatdroping "You don't say" Ralph said "And totally embarrassing" Chris said sweatdroping and Tanaka is stretching his legs "One, two, one, two..." Tanaka said as Sonic and Brody are sitting on a Ballios' head "Does he have to be on our team?" Sonic asks "Are we going to play too?" Cream asks "I don't see why not" Amy said "Chao chao!" Cheese said and Eggman is doing some warm-up bat swings "Hey Grandpa, I'm not so sure this baseball game is such a good idea. What if Eggman's got something up his sleeve?" Chris asks "Chris, you may be right. For all we know, that guy could be using a corked bat" Chuck said "That's not exactly what I meant..." Chris said "Let's decide which team will be first to bat. Rock, paper-" Eggman said "You can't be serious!" Knuckles said and all eyes turn to the echidna "You do know what will happen if Dr. Eggman wins, don't you? He won't just be winning the game, but the Chaos Emeralds, too. If Eggman wins this game, it'll mean catastrophe for all of us" Knuckles said "I'd say that's nothing but stinking thinking!" Eggman said "Why ruin everyone's fun?" Chuck asks "C'mon Knuckles, don't you wanna play?" Amy asks "Don't be chicken!" Cream said "Chao chao-chao chao!" Cheese said "Me? Chicken?" Knuckles asks "Perhaps Mr. Knuckles is simply afraid to play a game of baseball, hm?" Tanaka asks "Afraid? I'm not afraid of anything!" Knuckles said angry "We'll play then Knucky?" Ralph asks hugging Knuckles from behind " ...All right! You asked for it!" Knuckles said "You want a team player, I'll give you a team player! Let's get this game on!" Knuckles said angry.

Finally, it is time for the game to begin. Decoe serves as the umpire "Let's play ball!" Decoe said and Chris is first at bat "Bring it on!" Chris said and the pitcher Ballios pitches an extremely fast ball, and the catcher Ballios catches it before Chris can react "Strike one" Decoe said and Chris' jaw drops, and Sonic and Brody whistle in amazement "Strike two" Decoe said and the strikes keep mounting up "Strike three. One out" Decoe said and Chris walks back to the bench with his head hanging "How could anybody hit a ball that fast?" Chris asks and Eggman chuckles "Loser! Okay boys, send in the next sucker!" Eggman said and Tails is next to bat "It'll probably be a fastball" Tails said and the Ballios stretches its arm until it is near Tails, then gently tosses the ball to the catcher "Strike one" Decoe said "Hey Umpire! That's not fair!" Tails said "What do you want? It's not my fault he's got long arms" Decoe said. Amy is next to bat. She is using her hammer as a bat "Give me your best pitch, ball boy!" Amy said and the Ballios pitcher throws the ball "I got it!" Amy said and successfully hits the ball "All right!" Chris said "We might not lose after all" Knuckles said and in a surprise move, one Ballios fielder throws another into the air, catching the ball before it can leave the stadium "She's out!" Decoe said "Huh?... But I thought..." Amy said and Eggman laughs.

Later, Amy is the pitcher after the two teams have switched sides "Now I'll show 'em what I can do. I'm a much better pitcher anyway" Amy said and pitches the ball, which results in a beanball as the Ballios batter falls apart "Uh... Sory 'bout that!" Amy said and as she pitches again, a Ballios moves out from behind Cream. The Ballios batter does not hit the ball, and Tanaka, the catcher, catches it and throws it to Turbo, the first-baseman "Strike!" Decoe said and Turbo watches as the Ballios approaches, then leaps clear over him to get to first base "Safe!" Decoe said "This is ridiculous" Turbo said to the readers. At the next play, the ball is hit way into the air "And it's out of the park!" Eggman said but Brody runs up to the top of the scoreboard and catches the ball "Home run. Home run" Decoe said "You caught it, Brody, but if it's outside the fence, it doesn't count" Chuck said and Brody frowns.

"Huh, who says we gotta play by the rules anyway? Cut me some slack!" Brody said. Later, the Ballios pitcher pitches the ball, but it is batted back, shattering the pitcher "Sorry! That's a hit!" Amy said and Ralph bats the ball and begins running the bases "Sad to say, but it's a home run" Decoe said and Sonic and Brody's friends cheer and the score stands at 35-32 in Dr. Eggman's favor.

Meanwhile, Scarlet Garcia's crew are setting up and she appears on screen "Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. This Scarlet Garcia with a live report from Diamond Stadium. There appears to be a most unusual baseball game happening right this moment. The notorious Dr. Eggman and a team of robots are playing a game against Sonic, Brody and friends here at the stadium, the soon-to-be former home of the Diamonds. This is certain to become sports history. This is Scarlet Garcia reporting. Stay tuned to SSTV for continuous coverage of this momentous game" Scarlet said "We're closing in on 'em! Now let's give it our best shot! Tanaka!" Chuck said "Yes sir!" Tanaka said "I'm putting in a pinch hitter for you" Chuck said "Huh?" Tanaka asks "It's Cheese!" Chuck said "Chaaaooo!" Cheese said and the Ballios pitcher analyzes a tiny strike zone, sweatdrops, and pitches the ball, only to get a ball all four times "Ball one! ... Ball two! ... Ball three! ... Ball four! Take your base" Decoe said "Chao!" Cheese said and moves to first base "You big loser! You call yourself a pitcher?!" Eggman said. Soon, Cream takes her position "Play ball!" Decoe said and the Ballios pitcher prepares to pitch the ball "Oh Mr. Pitcher~?" Cream said sweetly and the Ballios pitcher pauses mid-pitch "Could you... maybe not throw the ball too hard? I've never played before" Cream said making a cute face and the Ballios pitcher begins blushing and soon it's entire face turns beet-red, and it drops the ball "Ball! Batter takes first base" Decoe said and Cream runs to first base "Thank you, Mr. Pitcher~!" Cream said happy "I oughta throw you on the scrap heap!!" Eggman said. Soon, Knuckles hits a ball successfully and runs the bases "All right, Knuckles! A home run!" Chuck said "That means we're tied!" Amy said "Huh? Look, everybody!" Chris said and everyone turns to see that the bleachers are filling up with fans "Hey, hey! Yeah!" A fan said "Hey, you guys! Hit a homer over this way!" Another fan said "Huh?" Chuck asks "Where did all these people come from?" Albert asks and the score stands tied at 35. Sonic bats the ball and runs to first base just as the Ballios at first base is calling to receive the ball "You strike out that squirt or else!" Eggman said as the next batter is Chris. He shuts his eyes tight as the Ballios pitcher throws a super fast ball "Strike one!" Decoe said "Oh no. What if I let the whole team down?" Chris asks and Sonic and Brody watch as Chris receives another strike "Strike two!" Decoe said "Time out!" Brody said and Chris looks up to see Brody walking up to him "Hey, Chris!" Brody said "Brody..." Chris said "I know you can get a hit. There's nothing to it, Chris. All you have to do is concentrate" Brody said "..That's easy for you to say. He's pitching so fast" Chris said "So he throwing a couple of fastballs. You can't let that get you down, pal. Just keep on tryin' and stay determined!" Brody said and winks "Now get out there and do your best!" Brody said and Chris nods "Okay!" Chris said and the game resumes "Play ball!" Decoe said "Sonic's right. I just have to keep trying" Chris said to himself and the Ballios pitcher pitches the ball and Chris swings the bat so hard that his cap falls off. He misses "Strike three" Decoe said "At least I tried my best" Chris said "Chris, run!!" Chuck said and Chris looks up in amazement to see a Ballios fielder chasing after the ball and as Sonic runs to home base, Chris slides into first base in the nick of time "Safe!" Decoe said "I did it! I got to first base!" Chris said and Sonic and Brody give a thumbs-up and wink as Chris' friends cheer "Oh yeah? Those bumbling clowns! They won't make a fool out of me!" Eggman said and Bocoe appears with a remote and Eggman presses the button, and twp Ballios detaches its heads. It flies over to Sonic and Brody and fastens itself to their heads "What's that?" Sonic asks and Eggman and Bocoe act "frantic" "Oh dear! My robot! It's malfunctioning! It'll explode any minute now! Run, Sonic and Brody! Hurry! Run away!" Eggman said "Sonic, Brody, what are we gonna do?" Chris asks "He's trying to get us to forfeit the game! We've gotta get rid of this thing quick!" Brody said and he and Sonic dart all over the diamond in a vain attempt to loosen the Ballios head "Hey, you're really hanging on!" Brody said "Sonic! Brody!" Knuckles said and the duo look at him and Ralph "Jump, Sonic and Brody! Hurry!" Ralph said "Okay!" Sonic said and he and Brody leap into the air and Knuckles and Ralph do the same "Hey, watch it, will ya?!" Sonic and Brody ask and Ralph and Knuckles punch the Ballios heads off of Sonic and Brody, causing it to explode "Thanks!" Sonic said "You guys are lifesavers!" Brody said and Eggman begins rising up in the Eggmobile and laughs as Sonic, Brody, Ralph and Knuckles land on the ground "You may have beaten me at baseball, but with this shiny blue Chaos Emerald snuggled ever so safely in my pocket, I'm the real winner after all, aren't I?" Eggman said and laughing, he flies away, and the Ballios dropship follows "Now he has both the Chaos Emeralds!" Amy said but nevertheless, the spectators are cheering "As you can see, there's been quite a turnout for this event. The game was, of course, the last to be played here at the stadium" Scarlet said when a man walks out onto the diamond and Scarlet gasps "Could that be?" She asks "Hey look! That's Elmer Johnson!" Chris said as Elmer walks up to Albert "I was watching at home. I must say, it was quite a remarkable game. It's all thanks to you, Al, and I... Well, Al, I can't help but think how much you've done for the Diamonds over the years and what a great friend you've been" Elmer said "Thank you" Albert said "I'm thinking of moving the Diamond turf over to the new stadium instead. I sure could use your help" Elmer said "Sure thing!" Albert said and the two shake hands. As Chuck starts talking everyone looks at him.

"Well, we may have lost the Chaos Emerald, but I think we've learned an important lesson about working together. And I'm sure you'll agree we'll be even stronger next time we meet Eggman" Chuck said as this chapter comes to an end.
