Third Person's POV

We start in a GUN military helicopter as it's flying over Station Square. Sonic and Brody are prisoners onboard the craft "Attention, Control, we are currently heading south. Suspect is in custody" The pilot said over radio "This is Control speaking. We've verified your position. Handle suspect carefully. They're a slippery little duo" Mission Control said and Sonic and Brody are handcuffed and sitting between two GUN soldiers "You two are awful quiet" A soldier said "So what?" Brody asks "Well, from what I heard, you two have caused quite a ruckus over at Prison Island the other night. Now we can't get two words out of you both" the soldier said "Guess We're not feeling too chatty" Sonic said and another soldier stands up and menaces the hedgehog and wolf with his gun "You better watch those smart mouths, hedgehog and wolf, or you'll be running laps in a ten-by-nine cell" The soldier said. Suddenly Sonic and Brody create a ruckus on the chopper "What's going on up there?" Mission Control asks and Sonic and Brody emerge from the helicopter and land on the stabilizer wing "We gotta get the chump on these fly guys" Sonic said "Hey! What do you two think you're doin'? Come back!" The soldier said and Sonic and Brody saw off the stabilizer wing and they ride it down toward the city. They land in a skating rink, rides it across a half-pipe, and ditch it "Sorry, dudes!" Brody said.

At GUN HQ, "Suspect located!" An officer said "Deploy robots immediately!" Another officer said "Roger!" The officer said.

In Central City, Sonic and Brody reach the top of a hill on one of the roads, only to be met with a swarm of GUN Beetles that force them to run in opposite direction "We are outta here!" Brody said and they dodge their laser which damages stoplights, cars, and even buildings "Uh-oh. They mean business!" Sonic said and they duck down a manhole while the Beetles fly past. Soon Sonic and Brody are walking through the sewer "Could We possibly sink any lower?" Sonic asks "Huh?" Brody asks "What are We running away from, anyway? I mean, We haven't done anything wrong, have We? I just wonder what it is they think We did..." Sonic said "If only we knew what happened" Brody said.

Elsewhere in Central City, Chris is walking in the sidewalk with another kid "Hey Chris, I heard you come from Station Square" the kid said "Yeah" Chris said "Have you ever seen Sonic the Hedgehog and Brody the Wolf up close?" The kid asks "Uh... Sonic and Brody? Well... sorta" Chris said "What are they like? Are they really that fast?" The kid asks "You bet they're fast! They're faster than anybody, and they're nicer than anybody, too" Chris said "Wish I could meet them. Heh, who knows, if we're lucky, maybe we'll both get to meet them someday" the kid said "Well, I gotta get to class. Later!" He said "See ya!" Chris said and as the kid leaves, Chris looks skyward.

Meanwhile at the President's limo, Christina Cooper is reading a report "Mr. President, it appears our undercover operative has settled into his new mission and will have all of the resources necessary" Christina said "Good work. And what about the flood?" The president asks "Well, sir, I've read the full report over the last few days. There was some damage, but from what I can gather, none of the citizens were harmed in any way" Christina said "And what about Sonic and Brody? Is there any new information?" The president asks "I'm afraid it doesn't look good, and with a crime of this magnitude, sir, I'm not sure the government should get involved" Christina said "I don't know. This just doesn't sound like them" The president said "I agree with you, sir. Sonic and Brody would never do such a thing. I think they've been wrongly accused, Mr. President, and I think you should do something about it" Sam said "Just drive" The president said "Either way, I don't feel it would look good for us to be involved. We should wash our hands of them" Christina said "Do you really think so?" The president asks "I do, sir" Christina said. Suddenly Sam slams in the brakes, throwing Christina into the glass "Are you crazy?! What are you trying to do?" Christina asks "I'm trying to do my job. Just driving" Sam said.

*At the national museum*

That night, the mysterious hedgehog and wolf show up in front of an exhibit containing a Chaos Emerald. Immediately the alarms sound, and the hedgehog and wolf run out, only to be met by several GUN Beetles. They fire at them, but they smirk and nimbly dodge them. Then they use a powerful energy that destroys the Beetles as they make their getaway.

*At the White House*

"Mr. President, I have some bad news. Sonic and Brody were just seen at the National Museum of Art attempting to steal the Chaos Emerald" A commander said "It can't be" The president said "My men are awaiting your instructions, sir" The commander said "We have no choice. Find them and place them under arrest" The president said "Yes, Mr. President. I'll alert all divisions immediately, sir" The commander said and leaves.

At GUN headquarters, "Attention all division commanders! Sonic the Hedgehog and Brody the Wolf have gone underground. Let's go get them" The commander said and a swarm of GUN Beetles take off into the night sky.

*Later at the Thorndyke apartment*

Chris, Chuck, Ella, Tanaka, Cream, and Cheese are watching the news "And now a breaking news story. I'm standing in the main pavilion in the Nation Museum of Art, where earlier tonight, a thief broke through security and stole a priceless Chaos Emerald. Authorities found these images on tapes confiscated from the museum's security cameras" A news reporter said and the camera foorage shows the mysterious hedgehog and wolf breaking the glass surrounding the Chaos Emerald. They appear in front of the camera and grin before making their getaway "Were those Sonic and Brody?" Chris asks "It can't be! Sonic and Brody would never take something that doesn't belong to them!" Cream said "Chao chao chao chao chao chao!" Cheese said "Yeah, right. That was Sonic and Brody on those security tapes" Chuck said and the others become mad at him "It can't be!" Chris said "They were framed!" Ella and Tanaka said "That's right!" Cream said "Chao chao!" Cheese said "Uh... Maybe it wasn't them. I guess you can't always believe your eyes" Chuck said "Surprisingly enough, authorities have determined from this footage that the thieves are none other than Sonic the Hedgehog and Brody the Wolf. According to reports, Sonic and Brody have destroyed numerous government tanks and fled to an unknown location" The newa reporter said "But there... there must be some kind of mistake. Sonic and Brody wouldn't...." Chris said and sighs "Of course they wouldn't, Mr. Chris. I'm sure there are some explanations" Ella said and Tanaka nods. Chris walks over to the window and looks up at the sky "Sonic... Brody... What's happening?" Chris asks to himself.

Meanwhile in Central City, the GUN Beetles blow up various sewer entrances and fly in. In the sewers, Jerome Wise and several other poor men are huddled around a fire "What, are you crazy or somethin'? Sonic and Brody ain't no thieves" A man said "I wouldn't make this up! I saw it on a TV in a repair shop window. Would I lie to you? No. I tell you, they saw them steal the thing" Jerome said "Hey!" The man said "And not only that, they caught them breaking into Prison Island just last night - red-handed. Probably trying to steal government secrets" Jerome said and Sonic and Brody run past them, with several GUN Beetles in pursuit.

*At Prison Island*

Mr. Stewart drives Scarlet Garcia up to a security checkpoint "How did you manage to get permission for me to visit Prison Island?" Scarlet asks "Well, let's just say I have connections in high places" Stewart said and shows his credentials to the camera. The doors in front of the car open, and the drive through "Who are you, exactly?" Scarlet asks "Just a fellow news hound, that's all" Stewart said. Once inside, they interview the warden "Have you ever heard of a government operation called Project Shadow Bolt?" Scarlet asks "I'm afraid that's top-secret. However, after last night, I'm not sure how much longer it will stay secret. Take a look" The warden said and shows them security footage of Eggman giving the mysterious hedgehog and wolf the order to destroy a GUN robot "This is security cam video from last night. As you can see, Eggman and the hedgehog and wolf have broken into the system, and are trying to steal the Project Shadow Bolt file" The warden said and the footage ends "This video tape makes it clear as day. Sonic and Brody are no longer concerned with the safety of our citizens, and had decided to join forces with the enemy. They had us all fooled, didn't they?" The warden asks "What happens next, sir?" Stewart asks "Quite simple. We arrest them and try them for high treason" The warden said.

*Meanwhile at Central City*

Sonic and Brody burst out of the sewer, then use the manhole cover to dive down and destroy the GUN Beetles. After the Beetles are destroyed, Sonic and Brody put the manhole cover back "That was easy" Sonic said when a spotlight blind them as a Big Foot lands nearby "Can't hang around, big guy, sorry. We'll give you a ring some time, what do you say?" Brody asks and holds up a Power Ring, but the Big Foot starts firing at them. Sonic and Brody easily dodge "Now that's what we call a tight squeeze" Sonic said and they activate the rings and homing attack the spotlight, destroying it and the Big Foot reacts by firing eight missiles at Sonic and Brody. Sonic and Brody allow to chase them up a building, then they land on the Big Foot. They jump off, causing the missiles to destroy the robot "That guy's gotta work on his aim a little bit" Brody said when a glow comes from the destroyed robot. The glow subsides, revealing the mysterious black hedgehog and white wolf "What the...?" Sonic and Brody ask "Good evening. I must say, it's a pleasure for us to finally meet you two face-to-face, Sonic and Brody" The hedgehog said "We do look alike. It's uncanny" The wolf said "So you two are the one who's been pretending to be us and causing chaos everywhere. You impostors!" Sonic and Brody said and they leap toward the robot to attack the hedgehog and wolf, but they vanish before Sonic and Brody get there. Back in prison island, Stewart is looking at the still of the hedgehog and the wolf 'They certainly looks like Sonic and Brody... but still, there's something strange, different about them' Stewart thinks. Back at Central City, Sonic and Brody look up to see the black hedgehog and white wolf atop a building.

"We assure you, Sonic and Brody, we are no impostors" The wolf said "We possess too much power to be anything but the real thing" The hedgehog said "Well, if you two are so powerful, let's see you two prove it!" Sonic said and he and Brody run up the building, but the hedgehog and the wolf fade before they can get there. They see the other hedgehog and wolf atop a taller building. They laugh "Hey, not bad. We're almost impressed. How about a little race action?" Brody asks and soon Sonic and Brody are racing the other hedgehog and wolf through the city. Notably, while Sonic and Brody are running, the other hedgehog and wolf appear to skate.

*Back at the Thorndykes' Apartment*

Chuck is on the phone "You're kidding! Unbelievable. Well, be sure to call us right away if anything else happens" Chuck said and hangs up "That was your father. Apparently Sonic and Brody've been spotted battling a government robot on downhill street" Chuck said and Chris instantly gets up and runs out of the room "Chris, where are you going?" Ella asks "I will follow him, Mr. Thorndyke" Tanaka said and leaves "Slow down! I'll come with you" Chuck said leaving.

*Back at Central City*

The hedgehog cuts in front of Sonic and the wolf cuts in front of Brody 'They're tougher than We thought they were' Sonic thinks 'Who are these two?' Brody thinks "Ha! Think you two can beat us?" The Hedgehog asks and Sonic and Brody gain speed "Not quite" The wolf said and the two catch up. Tanaka is driving Chris and chuck into the city when they see Sonic, Brody, the other wolf and the other hedgehog running toward them. The black hedgehog and white wolf vanish, and the car skids to a stop. The other hedgehog and wolf reappear and kick Sonic and Brody to the ground "What just happened?" Sonic and Brody ask and a spy drone shows up.

At Eggman's Base, "Sonic and Brody are a bit overwhelmed, aren't they? I certainly can't blame them. I felt rather confused myself when I encountered Shadow and Bolt for the first time" Eggman said.

*Prison Island-Flashback*

After activating the Project Shadow Bolt machine, Eggman watches as the black hedgehog and white wolf rise from their stasis chamber "What?! It's that hedgehog and wolf! How dare you two deceive me, you speedy little slimeballs!" Eggman said and the hedgehog and wolf climb out of the chamber "Wait. You two are not Sonic and Brody" Eggman said and the hedgehog and wolf bow "Our names are Shadow and Bolt. You've awakened us from a state of suspended animation, and We are very grateful" Shadow said "To show our gratitude, We are at your command" Bolt said and a GUN Hot Shot bursts into the room "Bad timing as usual!" Eggman said "Wait. We will show you our power, Doctor" Shadow and Bolt said and they attack and destroy the robot.

*Present-Eggman's Base*

"You've met your match, Sonic and Brody! Compared to Shadow and Bolt's fancy footwork, your as slow as a man of molasses! And now that you four have gotten a bit better acquainted, you're sure to see that for yourselves!" Eggman said and laughs.

Back at Central City, Shadow and Bolt stand over a fallen Sonic and Brody, Chaos Emerald in Shadow's hand. He holds it up "They got a Chaos Emerald!" Chris said "Where'd you get that Chaos Emerald, you phony freaks? Hand it over!" Sonic said and Shadow and Bolt teleport behind Sonic and Brody "You can do better than that, Sonic and Brody" Shadow said "If you two don't light a fire under those feet, you'll never get this Emerald back" Bolt said and Sonic and Brody leap into the air, and attempts to kick Shadow and Bolt, but Shadow gives Bolt the emerald and he teleports them again. Sonic and Brody are shocked "They really are faster than We are!" Sonic and Brody said "But that's not speed. They're disappearing!" Chuck said "Whoa!" Chris said and Shadow and Bolt are now on top of a street lamp "That's not all. We're full of surprises" Bolt said "Grandpa!" Chris said to Chuck "Chaos Control now" Bolt said and activates Chaos Control while Sonic and Brody run 'They can cause Chaos Control with just one Chaos Emerald?' Brody thinks 'Who are they? And where did they come from?' Sonic thinks and Shadow reappears next to Sonic and Bolt reappears next to Brody and they deliver blow after blow.

"Leave them alone!" Chris said "Like to fight dirty, don'cha?" Sonic and Brody ask "Consider yourselves fortunate. If We'd used our full strength, you two would have been much worse off than this" Shadow and Bolt said and they overshadow Sonic and Brody "Many years ago, Professor Gerald Robotnik endowed us with the power of Chaos Control. A normal creature like yourselves don't stand a chance against us" Shadow and Bolt said "Heh don't underestimate us" Sonic and Brody said and Shadow and Bolt glance up for a moment, hearing the sound of the approaching authorities, then look back at Sonic and Brody "We have a feeling We should make ourselves scarce. Goodbye, Sonic and Brody. It certainly was a nice pleasure. Chaos Control now" Shadow said and uses the Chaos Emerald to vanish with Bolt as several police cars, helicopters, and GUN Beetles arrive "Sonic and Brody, we've got you surrounded! You're under arrest. Put your hands up!" A police officer said "No way! You can't arrest us! We didn't do anything! Honest!" Sonic said and among the officers is Officer Albright "I'm gonna give you two to the count of five to surrender! Ready? One... Two... Three... Four..." Albright said "Turn yourself in, Sonic and Brody! You're already in trouble. Just do as they say!" Chris said but Sonic and Brody just grin at him "Please, Sonic...Brody...." Chris said and tears spring to his eyes "You're time's up, buddies! We've got a special cell on Prison Island with your names on it!" Albright said "Did you just say Prison Island?" Brody asks "Yeah, what about it?" Albright asks "Are you really taking us there?" Sonic asks "That's where we usually take criminals" Albright said and Sonic and Brody look at each other and nod smiling at each other "Okay, Chris, I'll do it. We're gonna turn ourselves in" Brody said "All right, guys, cuff us. We're all yours" Sonic said and he and Brody sit cross-legged "Get them!" Albright said "Only just take it easy on the wrists, fellas" Sonic said 'You two might use Chaos Control, friends, but Sonic and I are gonna have to get out of this without tricks. We'll do it... somehow. And when We do, we'll meet again Shadow and Bolt' Brody thinks as he and Sonic are led in handcuffs to a helicopter "Don't worry about us, Chris. We'll be out before you know it, buddy!" Sonic and Brody said "I hope so..." Chris said teary. The helicopter takes off and Shadow and Bolt watch from a distance "We won't let anyone stand in our way. Least of all you, Sonic and Brod. Maria..." Shadow and Bolt said.

*Later at Eggman's Base*

Eggman and his hench-bots are celebrating their victory with Shadow and Bolt "Yippee!" Eggman said and a confetti ball opens "We did it! We did iiiit!!" Eggman said and shakes Shadow and Bolt's hands "That hedgehog and that wolf are in the hoosegow thanks to you two, Shadow and Bolt!" Eggman said "He is practically busting his buttons" Decoe said "That jacket always was tight around the tummy" Bocoe said "Remember, Doctor, you must still obtain five more Chaos Emeralds in order to use the Eclipse Cannon" Shadow said  "But when you do, it will give you ultimate power and make you master of the universe" Bolt said "Sounds good to me! And now to hash out the rest of our dastardly strategy. Let's see..." Eggman said and Bokkun flies in holding his TV "Doctor, I have a message for you this time!" Bokkun said and giggles and tosses the screen to Eggman, and it activates. Rouge is shown holding a bouquet of roses "Hiya, Doc. Long time no see. I was wondering if we could get together to discuss a little business transaction?" Rouge asks "A business transaction?" Decoe asks "I would not trust her, Doctor" Bocoe said "Who asked you, bolt-brain?! Fetch her right away!" Eggman said "Uh-oh!" Decoe said "Here we go!" Bocoe said and TV explodes and Bokkun laughs "That's not funny!!" Eggman said "Don't blame me! Lots of stuff have television bombs!" Bokkun said and Rouge drops in. She is still holding her roses 'I just hope this little scam of mine works' Rouge thinks "Oh! I didn't expect you so soon" Eggman said "Good evening, Doctor. I've got a little something I'd like to show you" Rouge said and shows him the blue Chaos Emerald she acquired at Angel Island "A Chaos Emerald..." Eggman said "It's all yours, Eggy, if you agree to my conditions. All you have to do is be a good boy and play nice, and I'll tell you where the others are. What do you say, Doc? Do we have a deal?" Rouge asks and Shadow and Bolt scoff "That depends. What do you want?" Eggman asks and Shadow and Bolt begin to see a vision of Maria "Pleasure before business. Who's this charming friends of yours? I'm Rouge the Bat. What are your names?" Rouge asks "It's Shadow" Shadow and Bolt said and they turn to face her "Shadow the Hedgehog" Shadow said "Bolt the Wolf" Bolt said and Rouge is startled by Shadow's ruby red eyes and Bolt's blue eyes.

*The next day at the harbor*

Chuck, Ella, Cream, and Cheese watch as Tanaka and Chris board a ship. The latter two are dressed in black outfits and hats "Don't worry, you guys. We'll be back soon. But... this is something I have to find out for myself" Chris said "We understand, Chris. You two take care of yourselves" Chuck said "Why do we have to dress like this, Mr. Tanaka?" Chris asks "I've been inspired by my boyhood hero" Tanaka said. At the same time in the X-Tornado, Tails, Turbo and Amy are also on the move and Amy is impatient "Come on! Step on it! We've got to get to Prison Island in a hurry!" Amy said "What a bossy--" Tails said "What did you say?" Amy asks "Uh..." Tails said.

*At Prison Island*

Sonic and Brody are sitting alone in their chamber. It is surrounded on all sides by water, making it practically escape-proof. There are various mathematical formulas on the walls 'What a day... Who'd have thought We'd be thrown in jail for something We didn't do? We'd better think fast, use our time wisely, and figure out who those Shadow and Bolt were, and what they want' Brody thinks as this chapter comes to an end.
