CHAPTER 4
Chapter 4
Wildcat
THREE MONTHS AGO....
THIS morning was different than most, as the voting is tomorrow as I saw myself in the mirror seeing that my bright white smile, and perfect hair were alright. So anyways after school today I am going to help Yolanda put up more posters and advertisements for tomorrow. If she...I mean when she wins president she elected me as her vice president.
I quickly get changed into a pair of white washed jeans, and a grey crocktop, along with one of my jean jackets. Once I headed down stairs I remembered I forgot to wear the pin that Yolanda gave me and I quickly ran through the house until I could see my mother look at me. At first I thought she was going to yell at me about using my superspeed until...until I saw the Vote for Yolanda pin that was mine as I quickly grabbed it seeing she was wearing hers.
Once arriving at Blue Valley Highschool I saw Yolanda as she was smiling as I hugged her and she smiled, "I thought you were going to beat me here." She said as I laughed at her comment about my time schedules.
"So today we are going to be hanging up more posters and passing out pins during lunch, and then after-school my parents alrighted me to go with you to the diner." She said as I smiled, "I swear your parents would alright you to go into Central City with me on such short notice." I told her as she smiled and we walked in. After she hung up a few posters I could see Cindy hang one over her's.
Yuck! The jealousy in Cindy as she has always been jealous that Yolanda got Henry King Jr. as her boyfriend, and that she is popular and that she can be herself and kind. When I glanced away I could see Cindy look at Henry as Yolanda went up to him and hugged him as he embraced her in a loving hug as they walked away and I slowly went behind them so I wouldn't get in their way.
When I woke up it was the next day and the day Yolanda and I were looking forward to as today was the voting day, and I knew I had to meet up with Yolanda since her parents were giving us a ride this morning. Since my mother is doing some late shifts this week, which means it gave me more time to talk to Yolanda. Looking at my Carolina Blue walls with white crown moldings and a white modeling through the center. I could see the strings of photos I hung up. Seeing ones of Iris, Ruby, and I at one of the fashion shows. And then some of Yolanda, and I throughout the years.
As I went to my vanity mirror I knew what I wanted to do for my makeup also. I quickly look out the window as I turn on some music, checking out the window once more as I saw nobody walking or running around recently. I superspeeded to my walk in the closet looking through all my clothes. I finally chose my pinstriped wool-twill blazer, pinstriped wool flared pants, H.Stern moonlight earrings, and last but not least Brian Atwood tribeca platform sandals. After I quickly changed I put my hair up in a bun and left some of it in the front hanging loose. And to end everything off I put on a light nude shade of eyeshadow, and pink lipgloss.
Running down the stairs my mom glanced at me, "I still can't believe Ruby and Iris spoil you so much." She said as I laughed and she came up and hugged me. "Have a great day McKenna, and tell Yolanda hello." She said as I walked out the door smiling as I started walking down a few blocks until I could see Yolanda and she ran up and hugged me.
"Ahh. Yolanda if you make me trip I might actually have to tackle you." I told her as she laughed and smiled with her beautiful smile. "How do you have such beautiful outfits?" She asked me as I shook my head. "Hey you have natural beauty Yolanda. I on the other hand have to put on a nice outfit and makeup to make me look beautiful." I told her watching her father walk out as he heard us both arguing about which one of us is more beautiful.
Today arriving at school everyone looked so happy, and most were ready to elect Yolanda for President, as I knew she was going to do great on her speech and nothing would ruin it...or so I thought. She was getting high fives and everyone was also coming up and talking to me as I was smiling and happy to answer questions and also just to be around the excited atmosphere. As Principal Bowen was approaching Yolanda, and I as she smiled at us as I walked away from the friendly crowd.
Glancing at Henry King Jr. I saw him and his friends laughing and smiling at something, well part of me just thinks it's something he sent one of his friends. But I do have my suspicions on him at the moment. Everyone was following behind us so I didn't have much time to think about anything. As we finally arrived I was sat on stage next to Yolanda as we were starting to prepare for the speeches.
Once mine was finished I walked back to my seat as Yolanda smiled at me and her eyes were congratulating me for my speech. And before I could even comprehend I watched Yolanda get up and shake Principal Bowen's hand as she was getting ready to say her memorised speech by heart to the crowd who some were voting for Cindy...and others were voting for Yolanda.
Until...mid-way in her speech the crowd started having their phone's buzzing as I checked mine as it was sent from an unknown number; Cindy's phone. Once I opened it I could see a semi-nude photo of Yolanda. My gosh...Yolanda why couldn't you just tell him no. I still respect her and know how much she thought Henry King Jr. loved her but hell I want to kill him now for hurting her. I watched as her eyes widened and she saw the text as she ran off stage, and I could see the smug smile of Cindy, and even before Bowen could stop me I ran after her in heels.
That was three months ago that our lives changed from one stupid mistake.
PRESENT DAY. . .
NOISE is what woke me up as I saw my phone had a new message, from Courtney, as I looked at it contained. "Do you want to come over for dinner? And don't invite Wally." She said as I smiled knowing my mother is still working night shifts so she wouldn't mind. I quickly glanced up to see a photo of Yolanda and I from seventh grade as we both were doing sports at the time. Yolanda does a bit of boxing, and I on the other hand do cheerleading, and gymnastics. But what made that photo special was that was after one of her boxing tournaments that I ditched cheerleading for, as we then at that moment decided we were more than just some silly friends.
"Yeah I can come over. See you at school." I texted her as I walked to my wooden vanity mirror looking at my reflection and hair that for once like a few months ago was actually very nice. Once I looked in my closet I could see the outfit that I once wore that day that changed not only my life...but Yolanda's too. As it has been hanging up alone with all the accessories right beside it as I haven't been able to wear it, or even put it in with the rest of my clothing.
I pulled out my attitude slogan t-shirt, a check skirt pants, and my leather cowboy ankle boots. Once I went to my mirror once again I heard footsteps down the hallway until my door opened as I knew it was Wally. Due to his footsteps, and how he breaths. I angled my loose waves today as I then was ready for my day as I started to face Wally seeing him stare at me.
"Ok Wally what do you need?" I asked him as he looked at me, "Nothing. I was just going to say, I won't be home tonight due to football practice." He said as I nodded acting like I would be here as he walked out and I headed downstairs grabbing my notebooks and phone.
Once I grabbed an apple I was ready to head out and catch up to Yolanda before she left home, since she was going to school earlier today so she can box with the punching bag and let out her anger from everything going on at home, and with Cindy...or just everything that is going wrong in her life.
Walking out into the hallway after an hour of helping Yolanda and just sitting there somewhat in peace we headed into the hallway as I glanced to see Courtney scouting out Yolanda. And unlike Yolanda who doesn't know I can see her reaction change and she then bumps into Henry who apologizes as I quickly open my locker to grab my books. I watched Cindy approach us, "What did you say to my boyfriend, huh?" She asked Yolanda as Jenny was trying to get in my way. "Something dirty I bet." She continued as it pissed me off, but I knew Yolanda didn't want to make it any worse.
"Listen he's seen enough of you. Got it?" Cindy said to Yolanda as she jumped back a bit as she was in all her vision in her red beret outfit. "Everyone has." She continued as I seriously wanted to yell and bitch at her about how she is the biggest Bitch at school. "So stay away from him." Cindy continued as Yolanda just had the look of sorrow and anger deep down in her eyes.
"Stop it." I heard from behind me knowing it was Courtney by her voice. "What's your problem?" Courtney continues to question as I knew this like any other day will turn bad. "You have no idea who you're messing with." Cindy stated the truth. "Neither do you." Courtney said as I could see how uncomfortable Yolanda is. "You will never see me coming." Cindy stated as a threat to Courtney to try to scare her as Courtney continued to stare as Yolanda and I continued walking to class in silence as I knew she didn't have much to say.
"Hey." Courtney says following us as I turn back giving her a cut out motion. "Yolanda, Wait." Courtney says as she slows down and I also slow down more. "What do you want?" She asked Courtney as I knew she just believed that Courtney would use her, and that Courtney keeps standing up for battles she doesn't need standing up to. As she blames herself for everything that happened three months ago. "I wanna help you." Courtney says as that's when I know I should have gone to class.
"You can help me by leaving me alone." Yolanda says as I know deep down it's because she has nobody except me. Because her parents outcast her, and how she is treated badly for a mistake and no one will help her, "And that is what I want from everyone." She says as she walks away from me and I stare at Courtney as I feel bad for Yolanda right now and what she has been through. "It's not your fault Courtney, Yolanda for one has just been through enough already." I told her as she nodded and I went to my first class for today; World Literature.
The boring thing about it today was we had to write a paper about ancient writing techniques and understand the significance of it. As we had to write about five pages of a paper by next week as the rest of the class was peaceful and the teacher peering over everyone's shoulders as I hated that part of World Literature, because I'm ok with doing the assignment even if it's boring, but the teacher peering over my shoulder like a parrot makes me feel uncomfortable.
After school Yolanda started punching on the punching bag once again, as I looked up seeing Courtney enter the weight room which isn't really used like the gym which also has a weight room. But this one is more uncommonly used except by Yolanda since she sometimes needs to let go of her life on the punching bag. She continues to enter until Yolanda sees her, "You got to stop following me around." Yolanda stated as I interrupted, "I told her Yolanda." I whispered as she looked back at me feeling betrayed for a moment until Courtney spoke, "I can't. I said it wrong. It's not you needing help...it's me." Courtney said as Yolanda continued to punch the punching bag.
"What?" She said moving with the bag as I looked at him, "There's something going on here." As I caught on to what Courtney was doing as I glared at her, part of me wished for her never to join since she is my best friend who has been with me for so long, and has been through so much. "Yeah, I have a lunatic following me around. And putting things into my friends head." She said as I glared at Yolanda as Courtney continued, "No here in Blue Valley. I need you to help me fight it." Courtney said as I shook my head, is this how she is going to be when recruiting people, I should just go get the janitor and recruit him at this point.
"Listen blonde, I don't want anything to do with you, with anyone in this school except McKenna, and there's nothing you can say to change that." She said taking her gloves off as Courtney was trying to figure out what to say. "Just...Come over tonight, I...Stay for dinner even, I'll explain everything and if you're still not sold, I promise I'll never bother you again." Courtney told her as Yolanda was in her gym bag, I swear I should just get a sign saying 'Will you help us defeat super villains here in Blue Valley who can be anywhere? If so contact us.'
"Here text me your number." Courtney said as even I knew Yolanda didn't have a phone since her parents took it after not being able to trust her anymore. "My mom took my phone." Yolanda said as Courtney continued and I just watched this whole next part being played out, "Oh...wait...wait." Courtney said as I grabbed my bag and headed out as I took out a piece of string cheese as I quickly consumed it as I knew if not I might have gotten woosy and passed out again.
"Here...just...just...come please." Courtney continued as Yolanda finally gave in, "6:30" as Yolanda couldn't promise Courtney, part of me said she would try and fail due to her mother not trusting her, but it has been three months and about two weeks ago was the first time I could go to her room and talk to her. "See you tonight." Courtney says as I walk up behind her, "I wouldn't count on it Courtney. Her mother is more strict than anyone I have met. I barely get to see Yolanda other than in here, or in the morning." I told her as she looked at me as I knew she would go home and ask her mother most likely, as even I have heard from her she doesn't go to church, she doesn't speak more than saying hi to her brother, her grandmother looks at her, and her mother sends her to her own room. Her father doesn't even speak a word to her or even acknowledges her.
Sometimes I feel if her family was to disown her more my mom would let her stay in our guest bedroom and let her move in. But you know that would never happen....yet. Once I did arrive back home I put down my bag and grabbed one of my notebooks as I headed back to go to Courtney's knowing Yolanda probably wouldn't make it. Hell, at first her father and mother were skeptical about letting me be around her. I feel the only reason why they let me be around her is so they can't say she has nothing, and they trust me enough.
After dinner I went up with Courtney to her room sitting at her window as she was on her bed looking through the yearbook at Yolanda, "You know if you want to know the full story, I could tell you what I know. Yolanda would have been a good student body president if she just wouldn't have made the mistake she did. And if Cindy didn't send those nudes when she did." I told Courtney as she looked at me. "I knew what she did, but I couldn't prove it without revealing who I was. I knew Cindy sent the nudes of Yolanda from Henry's phone to her's and at the assembly sent them. I knew Henry then and yeah he could be and still can be a douche but that wasn't his going sending the nudes. But after the fact the rest is his fault, and the school's for never supporting her or helping Yolanda." I told her as I knew I couldn't do it only for my speed after I confronted Cindy and she destroyed me, and not even Yolanda knows what I did...nobody but Cindy.
"You did something didn't you?" Courtney asked as I nodded, "I did but it's nothing." I told her knowing what would happen if I said more, what happened that day. I knew she could tell something was off but continued to look at the yearbook, sometimes I wonder why I even try having friends some days. Including when all you feel like is worthless, and how your life was threatened to be thrown away. I knew she then saw the photo of Henry. "Henry." She said as I shook my head knowing what Courtney was planning but it was cute how she was smiling.
THE NEXT DAY . . .
RINGING of the bell signalling the end of school was nice after a long day. When I was able to walk out of class I was able to catch up with Yolanda who was still a bit hurt at me after yesterday. Once we entered the gym she jumped back a bit as I then saw Courtney sitting there. She stood up as Yolanda wasn't happy; most likely because of her mother and not letting her go last night.
"Don't you get it. I don't want to be your friend." Yolanda said as Courtney then revealed something, "I blew up Henry's Car. And McKenna helped me." She said as I was shocked that she put me in that as I then glared at her. She just froze as I stood in between the two of them. "What?" She questioned as I glanced down at my feet since I couldn't look at her eyes. "It wasn't on purpose, but.." Courtney continued until Yolanda spoke, "But you both accidentally blew up a car?" She questioned as I looked up as it seemed like a crime in a way of what we both did as I nodded admitting I helped her. "Yes." We both said as Yolanda eyes widened as she felt hurt once again that I didn't tell her.
"So..." Courtney said, "So...what?" Yolanda said until Courtney walked closer to her and I backed up so she could, "So the enemy...of my enemy...is my friend?" Courtney said as I shook my head as this couldn't get any more awkward for any of us. "I know what he did to you." She stated as Yolanda started to move her straps and kinda started to look more sad and disappointed in herself. "Who doesn't?" She asked as even I knew everyone knew what happened, but at least it's better than what Cindy did to me since I wouldn't take her shit.
"I think you're really freakin' brave coming back here day after day." Courtney started as Yolanda sat down and I stood at the blue wall with padding half way up and watched this play out as I knew Yolanda would listen now, and probably be mad and hurt later at me since I didn't tell her about any of this. "I mean, I don't know if I'd be strong enough. I never should've sent him those." Yolanda said as I nodded knowing that she should have never, but sometimes people do stupid things, but it was Henry's fault for asking, and Cindy's for sending them.
"He never should've shared them." Courtney said as everyone knew it she started tearing and sniffled. "I knew he could be a jerk. But he was so nice to me." She said as she started crying and I moved over to Yolanda who was big softy on the inside and hugged her. "After a few months, I thought...it was getting serious...but I guess not for him. I don't think he ever saw me more than the next girl." She continued as she sniffed. "My parents were destroyed. They won't even come near the school anymore. They don't bring me to church. They barely let me do anything even with McKenna. My whole life has changed." Yolanda said as I let go of her as I so badly somedays want to hurt Henry Jr. and Cindy for everything they have done to Yolanda. And how they hurt someone so nice, and kind to everyone at once.
"They act like I don't even exist." She said as I knew deep down they didn't accept her brother who doesn't do as much with her. But he does still acknowledge her. "I don't want to hate anyone. But I do, I hate Henry King." She said as Courtney looked at her with sorrow.
"You want to see how we blew up his car?" Courtney asked as I knew she would be interested. "Yeah." She said as Courtney was smiling and I knew she would ask me more about it after Courtney continued.
Later in the evening we finally made it back to Courtney's house as we went to the basement and we all were silent, when Courtney got the staff and it started to glow once again, "This is how I blew up Henry's car." She said as Yolanda looked partly away due to the brightness, "This is also what blew out our retinas. Turn it off." Yolanda said as Courtney talked to the staff and it turned up, I always wondered what it was saying to her. Yolanda then went up to it, "What is this thing?" She asked as I looked at her knowing Courtney would answer.
"It's called the Cosmic Staff. It belonged to my dad." Courtney said as Yolanda was confused and I just stood on the pillar. "I thought you dad was that garage guy." She said as I nodded my head, "Pat's just my step-dad." She said as she looked at me and I nodded. "My real dad..was Starman." Courtney said as Yolanda had no idea who she was talking about, "Who?" She asked, "Starman from the Justice Society of America." Courtney said as she sighs, "My dad was a superhero along with McKenna's." She said as Yolanda again then glanced at me as I nodded, "We're both superheroes." She said as I nodded once again just standing here watching how Courtney is explaining to my closest friend and like sister of how were superheroes and wanting to recruit her.
"But that still doesn't explain you." Yolanda said as I looked at her sadly then started to speak, "My dad as you know was Jay Garrick, he was The Flash of the Justice Society of America. Fastest man alive." I told her as she didn't believe me at first. "Ok who comes up with these names.?" She asked as I shrugged my shoulders, "Let me prove it to you." I said, vibrating my hand faster as it started phasing a bit, and then I ran and went upstairs to grab a cup and coffee and then came back as she looked at me. "What you didn't expect me to get coffee. I needed more calories. I burn through more than 5,000 a day." I said as even Courtney looked at me, "What I eat is about 10,000 calories a day." I continued.
"We got costumes and everything." Courtney then said as Yolanda wasn't taking it. "Oh god." She said, "Let us just show you." Courtney said as I met her upstairs and grabbed my costume out of my bag luckily it was only us three, and I watched as they came upstairs. "I got a costume for you too." She told Yolanda as we went to her room. I quickly changed in her closet before she could even say anything, and after she got her costume on when I stepped out of the room. Last was Yolanda who was worried.
"I don't know about this." Yolanda said as I felt bad as I was sitting on another chair by Courtney's Vanity mirror. "Do you have it on yet?" Courtney asked as I know she probably does. "Yes, but I look ridiculous." She said as I spoke up, "Not as bad as me wearing my training costume when I first started. Let me say it's worse than any other costume because it's spandex and red and I have to wear this big helmet with a mask attached to it. "There's not a mirror in there so you don't know." Courtney said as we both knew it wasn't worse than what I wore that time, and anyways who cares how Yolanda looks.
"We showed you our costumes." Courtney said, "Yeah but you two look good." She said as I wanted to go grab my training suit at home even though Wally is there and came back, but I knew I should stay here. "Don't be shy, please, come on." Courtney said as I said something, "Yolanda you're beautiful no matter what even if it was a potato sack." I told her as Courtney looked at me and I looked back at her as I grabbed the helmet and put it on. "No one else is here but McKenna, you and I." Courtney said as Yolanda finally came out of the closet and the suit did look baggy on her, but I always wondered how it fit on Ted Grant. As she came out she said, "It smells like gym class." She said as I laughed and she looked at me, "Ok imagine burning carpet or burning rubber. Gym class is nothing." I told her as she glared at me with a serious look and I just sighed.
"It's authentic." Courtney said as I looked at her moving my head to the left as she continued to try to talk to Yolanda and cheer her up about how it looks. "So I have to wear this sad-ass catsuit, while you both are wearing those, including you, Ms.America." She said Courtney was kind like Ms.America. "Stargirl." She told Yolanda as I glanced at the two shaking my head. And she nodded and Courtney told her she could tailor it.
"Here put on the cowl." She said handing Yolanda the cat cowl that was the mask for Wildcat the classic look unless she wanted to wear cat ears and a mask and be more like Black Cat, or Catwoman. She sniffs into it and gags because of the smell, "Oh my god it smells worse than the suit." Yolanda says as I look at her feeling bad in ways. "Come on." Courtney pushes her as she puts it on despite the smell of the cowl.
Before I could look away the suit started lighting up in a purplish blue color as the suit started to fit her more. "Lucky." I thought, but I have superspeed and they don't so who really is the lucky one in this situation. It looked amazing on her in the end, like she looked hot, like every other time, everyday. "Shut up." Courtney says as Yolanda is impressed. "How did it?" Yolanda asked, "It's one size fits all." She said to Yolanda as she continued to look at it. "That is so cool." She continued as Yolanda went to look in the mirror and she was worried about the tightness.
"You look badass.." Courtney said as I said, "You look hot." I said as Courtney looked at me and my heartbeats for a minute. She chuckles at our comments, "So what could Wildcat do?" She asked as even my eyes widened. "Good question." Courtney said as I shrugged my shoulders as we stood near each other and she started to check Wikipedia for answers.
"You're checking wikipedia?" Yolanda and I asked at the same time standing on both sides of Courtney seeing as she was scrolling through the page, "It didn't come with an instruction manual." Courtney said as I nodded, "True." I said as she continued to scroll trying to find where the power and abilities part was. "Okay, here, power and abilities." She continued. "Apparently he could cut through metal using his claws." She said as all of us continued to look and we all had a clear thought together. As she was able to release the claws and my gosh they are long. Felicia would be jealous.
We all exclaimed at seeing it, and we headed downstairs as we went to the kitchen as Courtney grabbed the toaster and I stood away watching as she slashed the toaster with her claws breaking it and I was shocked it was true. As we went to continue looking for places where Yolanda could mess around being Wildcat as we went to the fence.
"It says Wildcat had the agility of a cat." Courtney said as I went to try first and fell back down and landed on the side of the fence. As Yolanda then ran up the fence being able to climb it and stay on it perfectly. As she wasn't falling as the suit matched her steps. "It says he always landed on his feet." I told her about Courtney as she did a flip off the fence and landed perfectly on her feet as she laughed and the cosmic staff was happy and it bumped me as I glared at it.
Later on we did continue going to help Yolanda as we went to the roof of a building and even I thought this was a bad idea. "You want me to jump off this building?" Yolanda asked as I shook my head, "Maybe this is too far Courtney." I told her as she knew I might be right. "I don't want you too." Courtney said as I stared at her, "Then you maybe shouldn't Yolanda it is a long way down." I told her looking over the edge.
"Wikipedia said Wildcat could jump off a building." Courtney said blaming Wikipedia as Yolanda spoke, "Yeah well anyone could go on Wikipedia and say anything." She said as Courtney continued. "It said your claws could cut through metal with butter." Courtney said back to Yolanda. "And it was right about that." She continued as Yolanda still wouldn't do it, "Okay, murdering a toaster isn't like risking my life." Yolanda said as even I nodded, "Not even I would do what all wikipedia said my father could do. I have always been careful about what I can, and can't do yet." I told Courtney as I still can't run up tall buildings yet. The staff did respond to Yolanda as it pointed to me and again bumped into me pushing me back into Courtney.
I continued to stare at the staff as Yolanda and Courtney were having a moment as I knew deep down she was so tempted, but she shouldn't be risking her life. Part of me feared this would have happened if Courtney would recruit her. She started explaining how she wanted to be herself, and how she couldn't and even I knew she had changed a bit. Even I knew I have changed, I have tried to say I didn't.
"Okay I'm jumping." She said as I ran over and almost fell as I was looking at Yolanda, "Well would someone please help me up?" I asked them as they both helped me up, "How did you do that?" Yolanda asked as I looked at her, "I was making sure you wouldn't jump and I tripped and fell over the railing. Luckily I had a grip." I told them standing away from the edge knowing she won't do it again.
I watched as Courtney helped Yolanda with almost jumping as she was a great person at helping others, and finding the good side within them. "His name is Icicle, the one that killed your dad?" Yolanda asked as we were standing there at the side of the building. "Yeah they called themselves the Injustice Society of America." Courtney said as Yolanda questioned, "Who came up with these names?" Yolanda asked as I nodded, "That's what I have been saying." Courtney said as I said, "Well they are from the golden age." I told them.
But like everything Yolanda needs to get home before her parent's check to see if she was there. As even Courtney questioned it as she has been more than punished. Again she should live with me as before Yolanda could answer we had to get down. Because of a car and she got knocked down by the staff as I jumped down on my legs watching a blue and white car pass us. We watched to see if it's Henry King Jr.
"Where is he going this late?" Courtney asked as Yolanda said, "To go and see his dad I guess." Yolanda said as I nodded, "Henry's father is one of them. Brainwave is what they call him, he's a supervillain." Courtney told Yolanda as I watched her nod, "Actually that makes sense." She said out loud. "Okay who else?" She asked Courtney as we knew of nobody else yet, "I don't know, We're trying to figure that out." Courtney said as Yolanda looked at me and I nodded as a strand of my blonde hair blew in my face as I blew it off.
"What about the hospital?" Yolanda suggested as she looked at us both. "No" I said knowing they would want to go and see the hospital. "No way are we going to the hospital. If my mother sees me she'll know I'm using my abilities and bench me." I told them knowing if there even is a hint of me there I would get in trouble. " I mean McKenna, Courtney wouldn't the supervillains be visiting Brainwave in the hospital?" She questioned as it would be true due to them needing him if he is an important member to the team.
"Or is that the opposite of what they would do?" Yolanda asked as I shook my head, "No they would because if he is worth enough to them, they would want to wake him up or check on him." I told her knowing that it could be true, but her mother would be there. "Yes!, Yes! You both are right." Courtney said as she was happy and now knew more. "Oh. You're such a natural at this." Courtney continued as Yolanda smiled.
We did go to the hospital but I knew at this hour my mother, and Dr.Chapel would be having their break on another floor in the cafeteria which is open surprisingly 24 hours, just different shifts. We did sneak in the side as Courtney was telling us what we needed to do while we needed to get the files. "And by "we" I mean you. McKenna and I will make a distraction." Courtney said as I nodded placing my helmet back on my head.
"There are two way radios in the masks." Courtney says as I walk off with her after sending a reassuring smile to Yolanda knowing she was nervous. "How am I supposed to get in like this?" She asked as both of us responded, "You climb!" We both said knowing that she could do it. "Seventh floor." Courtney said, "We believe in you." I continued as I snuck in through the back.
I looked at Courtney knowing Yolanda hasn't got anywhere yet because she barely just started, and I looked at Courtney as I could hear her praying because she needed luck and wished she would be alright in the end. We continued to sneak in as I tried running up the side of the building as I got in and by the stairs hearing her last hanging off the building. She yelled as she fell, "Yolanda are you alright." I didn't have time to respond. "Yeah." She said as I continued to scan the room while super speeding through it as I gave Courtney a signal as we got into the storage room.
"I'm going to make it dark for you." Courtney said speaking to Yolanda as I was thinking about how we were in a hospital and life-support and how it could be damaging for them. As the cosmic staff even agreed. "I'm just trying to turn off the power." Courtney stated as Yolanda responded. "No are you crazy. There are people here on life-support." Yolanda said as I also looked at Courtney as she felt bad. As we continued to talk.
"How long did you dad's train you." Yolanda asked as we both, "Well technically." We both said as Courtney started, "he didn't" Courtney said, "I have been trained by other speedsters." I said as Courtney looked at me and I shrugged, "Then why am I listening to you?" She asked us as I did wonder that too since she wanted to recruit more heroes. The staff started to go around knocking stuff off the shelves, and I just started knocking other things down like unopened boxes of tissues. Yolanda was questioning what was going on, but even I didn't know how to say, crazy staff knocking down everything in order to give you a distraction. I could say it just like that.
Hearing footsteps approaching, "Hold on." I told Courtney as she nodded as I quickly sped us out back to the stairwell and then quickly headed back to shut the door. And I did return back to the stairwell while Yolanda was looking at the visitors log. "McKenna I can see your mother." Yolanda said into the com silently for us to hear as my eyes widened. "Where are you?" Courtney asked Yolanda when I went into the Brainwave run and she went outside. Before we could both answer I appear in front of her, and Courtney appears from the window. "There's someone coming." Yolanda said as I went behind one of the curtains, and Courtney went down with the staff and asked it to stop glowing, while Yolanda went to hide with me.
Principal Bowen entered the room with a violin case, as she pulled out a fiddle and started playing it as we watched her until her eyes were wide, but she checked and nothing happened. She did walk out afterwards and I was shocked. "That was Principal Bowen." Courtney said as I nodded as we all saw her, "Does this mean she's a villain too." Yolanda asks as I think about it, she had a fiddle, and she played it for Brainwave who was in a coma. She is either a new fiddler, or really respects Dr.King. "With a violin. Is that even a thing?" She asked as I nodded, "The fiddler but yes, it is." I told them. Before anything else I ran out of the room into the stairwell and up to the roof fastly after looking out to see if my mother was watching; luckily not.
When we returned to Courtney's house and got changed back into our daily clothing, we checked the logs, "Look, just Henry. No one else. Not even Principal Bowen." Courtney said as we were sitting at her window. "Why wouldn't she sign in?" Courtney wondered, "So that no one knew she was there." Yolanda says as I nod. "We have to investigate." Courtney says as I see Yolanda sigh, "Actually, Courtney, I don't think I'm your guys Wildcat." She says as I know she is doubting herself, but I can also see what it means.
"What? Why not?" Courtney asks, "Tonight was awesome, and I appreciate you choosing me." Yolanda starts, "Yeah, you....you were great." Courtney starts trying to make Yolanda accept it. "The way you.." Courtney starts as Yolanda interrupts her, "But, when those photos got around. I was ashamed to be Yolanda Montez. I didn't want to be me. But the truth is, I need to get my own life back, before I could put on some costume and be someone else. I can't take all this right now." Yolanda says moving back and grabbing the suit. "The truth is I don't need to be a Wildcat. I need to be me again." Yolanda said before hugging me and walking past Courtney.
"I have an idea." I told Courtney and she knew what I meant as we headed out in our civilian clothes and hood as I lead her to the Montez's house which isn't far from my house, and she uses the staff to take it up and put it in her room along with a note as we head back to her house. Knowing she would see it eventually. Later on Courtney continued to look through the yearbook and I was writing in my journal about the fiddler as I heard knocking on the window to see Yolanda in the Wildcat suit outside the window. And even she was happy, "I should head home." I told Courtney as she nodded and I walked out of her house running back home.
LATER THAT NIGHT. . .
UPON returning home I could see Wally in my room, as I jumped. "So how was running around with Stargirl like tonight?" He asks as I question why he even is in my room. "It was different. But useful. We have a wildcat now. But we found out that not everyone signs in the visitor log to Henry King Sr.'s room." I told him as he looked at me.
"A wildcat huh?" He asked as I looked at him, "Your mother called that she won't be home until early in the morning." He told me as I looked at him and questioned how he knew, "How did you get in without your mother seeing you?" He asked as I smiled, "I needed to be there for them, and I knew I could just sneak around and not be in her sight." I told him quickly to go to my closet to change into grey sweats, and a light blue tank top.
"I swear Courtney wants to recruit more members tomorrow." I told him looking out my window as I saw the tree branches moving due to the wind. "I swear it was hard enough getting Wildcat, but let me say she has more of the JSA items and she is trying to recruit more onto the team." I continued to speak as I watched Wally stare at me, "No don't you think about joining us. Wally you came here to learn to be more human, and I am now learning my more speedster side. And let me say with as little as I eat at school, and I burned off in the past two nights. I'm surprised I'm still standing." I told him as he laughed and I threw my pillow on him starting to hit him with it.
"You're so much worse then Ruby when she complains about her hunger." Wally says as I gasp, "Excuse me Ruby eats enough since she burns off more calories than us. And two you stuff any food in your face at any time." I told him as he ran away and was guilty. "Wallace Rudolph West, you better not try to run and hide I will find you and you will not like what I plan for then." I yelled knowing he could probably hear me. As I ran out of my room.
Once again I did find him. I pushed him and tackled him, "You know for a football player, it's weird that a girl who is shorter and less muscular build than your is taking you down." I told him as he groaned and I put him in a headlock. "Ok....Ok I was wrong, your good McKenna you aren't as bad as Ruby. I'm sorry for what I said." He told me as I laughed returning to my room knowing that he would be in bed or the kitchen any minute from now. When I sat on my bed after the whole situation I heard knocking on the window.
I opened it knowing that it was Yolanda due to her cat cowl, she crawled in looking around my room seeing some of the photos on the walls. "It has been awhile since I have been in here." She said as I laughed, "Too long in ways Yol." I told her as she nodded, "So do you want to talk about why you are here?" I asked her knowing that she could answer.
"I finally stood up for myself in front of my parents." She said as I was shocked, "I'm proud. I'm guessing by how you said it they didn't forgive you. Or still think you are unforgivable." I explained as she nodded. "They wouldn't even listen to me, but it felt like I was letting off something that had been destroying me for so long." She continued as she hugged me, "I'm so grateful you and Courtney recruited me. But why never tell me?" She asked as I looked at her, "Well not only would it put you in risk, I just didn't want to lose my closest friend." I told her as she hugged me close.
"You will never lose me unless Cindy kills one of us." Yolanda said as I knew deep down she was right. Yolanda is not only one of my best friends, she is like my sister, one who is tough, but also has a soft side that hides beneath all the damage.

A/N: Oh my gosh please enjoy this chapter!!! Or please enjoy every chapter!!!
I work hard to bring content and if it flops it hurts in ways since I push my sleeping hours down, I use up my time to write this. And let me say it's not easy with this book or Justice since both go off 100% on the show. I currently have tried my hardest to stay on schedule including with this chapter.
Well everyone here it is, yes it lacks a little. But anyways the relationships will get better after Chapter 5, it will be coming out as soon as I get it finished. As of right now I have a few request on my Stargirl imagines and if you are waiting for me to write it I will be getting there, I just want to finish this book, and Justice and then while I'm doing school, and everything else I could write in between short imaginings and everything.
I'm so close to 2K and let me say, I'm crying already about that not only because of the support, but because it shows that people enjoy it more than just myself who sits there writing this book. I wanted to say thank you to the readers so if it passes after I release this chapter or chapter 5 I want to thank you!
Let me get to my book's mention of the chapter, "The Green Who?" by Liz_425, and let me say it's different than most books I have seen on Stargirl. It just varies the types you can find, and even though this was her first book she is doing good. So go check it out.
Again thank you, I wanted to keep this author note short. So I will see you during Chapter 5 of A New Society.
