Stars and Stripes Pt.2

3 MINUTES AGO...

DODGING the attack Pat almost hit both Courtney and I as Brainwave was able to get to him already and control him. Before Courtney could get hit again I used my speed and we were at the other corner of the tunnel seeing as he moved STRIPES face towards us and let’s just say it was creepy and all. “Pat! Pat wakes up.” Courtney shouted at Pat as I shook my head. “He’s been compromised by Brainwave. He is being controlled by Courtney.” I told her trying to explain to her everything that was going on as she glanced at me as she put the staff also in front of me.

He almost hit us once again as I ran fastly under her robotic arm, as Courtney slid on her knees. As we haven’t heard anything from anyone else on the team yet. “Court? Courtney? Your mom’s not moving.” Beth said through the coms as we both could hear her along with the others. And he continued to chase us in the tunnels as I was running at a “normal” pace to keep up with Courtney so nothing bad could happen to her. Stopping at the end of the tunnels as Courtney started speaking to Pat again. 

“Hey, Pat, it’s me. It’s Courtney. Your Daughter.” She said as I was waiting for impact and time to slow down but he didn’t hit us at all he stopped in mid air as it must have come from Courtney’s words. He could be fighting it, which would suck. “Ever since we came to Blue Valley, you’ve been there for me everytime I needed you. I need you now. Pat. I really really need you.” Courtney said as I was smiling at this moment since it’s the first time I have heard Courtney ever talk about Pat as her father as I wanted to aww at this moment but knew it wasn’t the right time. And we knew he was fighting against it. 

I just hope Yolanda is alright, along with Rick. As we haven’t heard from them yet due to everything that is happening at the current moment. “Beth. Pat is fighting brainwave’s control.” Courtney said as I wanted to check on Pat to make sure nothing bad is happening to him. “What? No, that could kill him, Court.” Beth said as I looked at Courtney trying to decide if I wanted to get through the robotics of Stripe and see if in any way I could help him. 

“We need help Beth.” Rick said as I breathed again knowing him and Yolanda were alright. “I know! I Know! I hear you, guys!” Beth said as I could hear the tint of stress in her voice as everyone was stressed at the moment including myself. “Wait! I can hear them.” Beth says as I question what she meant as I looked at Courtney who shrugged her shoulders. 

“Is your mother still out of town?” Courtney asked as I nodded, “She decided to stay and check on Iris and Ruby before she comes back.” I told her as she looked at me and the staff lit up more as I stared at it as it was coming closer to me before Beth spoke again to us, “That’s it Chuck. When I was under Cindy’s house, I couldn’t hear anyone.” Beth said as I nodded, catching on to the plan as Beth thought there could be signal blockers. As I knew Gambler who was watching over Beth. 

“I volunteer every Christmas for the American Red Cross but there are so many worthy charities.” Beth said as I smiled, “Hey Beth while you're at it can you donate to ASPCA please?” I asked through the coms as I could hear a ok from Beth a moment later. And I could see the look Courtney was giving me about it, since she knows my love for animals including cats. “Why pick one?” She asked as we all knew she must have started donating the Gamblers money. 

I could feel electricity around me as at first it felt small until now where something felt off, it must have worked. “And now Pat must be free” I thought to myself as STRIPE started moving and Courtney once again put me behind her as she was protecting us both from Stripe if needed even though I could save us both. Or all of us if needed with my speed. “Courtney?” Pat asked as I could see her smile through her mask, “McKenna? I’m sorry.” He said as I nodded knowing he was back to being Pat where he could control his own mind. “It’s okay.” Courtney said as I nodded in agreement. 

“Let’s get to the machine.” Courtney started as I then knew Pat could hear her due to the tone in his voice, “Court..I heard you. Every word.” He said as I for sure wanted to aww, but again it wasn’t the right moment. “And I meant every word.” She told him as Courtney grabbed my hand as she led us through the tunnels. Beth meanwhile told us about Courtney’s mother and how we needed to stop them soon. We were approaching as I heard voices as they sounded familiar. And we entered as I dropped Courtney’s hand and blushed as it faded away when the others looked at us. 

“Court, Ken no one’s here.” Yolanda told us as I was just happy to see Yolanda and Rick, and Justin too to see them all alright and nothing happened to them. “Everyone ok?” She asked the others. “Yeah.” Yolanda said, “All good.” Rick replied, “Aye.” Justin said quickly as I glanced around the familiar room once again, just like the last time Courtney, Yolanda, and I were here the night Henry died.

“So where’s this machine?” Rick asked as I looked to the big door with a keypad next to it, “Over there.” Courtney and I said at the same time as we all approached the door. And then we heard laughing, “Look what we got here.” The voice said as I could see Sportsmaster, Jordan, Tigress, and Dragon King standing in the archway as we went down the steps as all of us stood together as I was next to Courtney as Jordan looked at Courtney and I, as they all came down the steps and Sportsmaster threw his bat back into his hand. 

“That’s as far as you go.” Jordan said as I so wanted to punch him in the face for almost killing us, and for killing Joey Zarick the one day when we first started off, before recruiting Yolanda, Rick, and Beth. “No more ice mask Jordan. Huh?” Courtney asked, “I’ve got nothing to hide anymore, Courtney.” He said glaring at me once again as I so wanted to use my speed and punch him in the face right now. Until I heard a laugh from Sportsmaster, “Anyone else have deja vu?” He asked as I could see Tigress smile, “I do. Wasn’t that a fun night?” She asked as I shook my head at these two. 

“Time to kill the JSA again.” Sportsmaster said as I so wanted to take them all down, but I truly wanted to find the man or woman who killed my father all those years ago. As we all started running towards each other. As we split up I was with Courtney and Pat fighting Icicle who was throwing Icicles at us as I backflipped missing them as Courtney was deflecting them with her staff, as she dodged some of his attacked as Rick got thrown from Sportsmaster and I knew I had to help when everyone was starting to get taken down and I knew Courtney had a handle on Icicle with Pat. 

Running over I dodge Sportsmasters missed hits as he glared at me until slipping me up with his hockey stick and I hit the ground hard as he was about to slam me in the ground I rolled over sliding my foot under his fastly then getting back up as Tigress tried to shoot me with one of her arrows as I dodged it using my speed but I quickly started to use my fighting skills faster as I took down Tigress. As Sportsmaster hit me in the shoulder as I groaned at the slight pain I felt until Courtney kicked down Tigress, and then she dodged Sportsmaster by flipping and then taking him down as the two of them were knocked out. 

I glanced over to see Rick throw Jordan back, as Yolanda punched him and then threw him to the middle of the dungeon. Until Courtney hit him with the staff as I hit him with my speed and velocity as we stood above him as Pat was going to punch him until Solomon Grundy came in our way. Oh crap! And Rick jumped at him to get hit only by Soloman Grundy and hit the wall hard. As Pat had Solomon Grundy and wanted the rest of us to head to the machine to stop it. 

Before Courtney could enter Cindy grabs her by the legs and I was about to enter the door. “Court!” Yolanda screams as I look at her, “Go on.” I told her as I wanted to so hurt this bitch for awhile ever since she threatened me at homecoming, threatened my friends, and almost killed Courtney. “Go!” Courtney even said as she closed the door and I jumped on Cindy not thinking much as she threw me off her as I was able to dodge her hits. 

I dodged some of the hits from Cindy as Courtney was dodging some of the others as I was using my speed and kicked her a few times. And I did watch Jordan as he moved as I got hit to the ground, I suspect she is going to get Beth due to her being able to hack the systems with Chuck. I jumped back once more dodging Cindy as the Staff knocked her down as Courtney blasted her and I threw a lightning bolt at her and Courtney gasped I didn’t even know I could do that. 

Instead of listening to my gut, I listened to my heart as I followed Courtney as we both walked into the door to the satellite as we saw Yolanda stand over bodies of goons of Dragon King, as she was looking at a body of...oh my gosh! It’s Brainwave. She killed him, and I knew she enjoyed it and who wouldn't, including after what he did to her. “Oh my god.” Courtney said seeing the dead Brainwave as he now couldn’t hurt anyone else. “Yolanda.” She started as I knew Yolanda’s answer, “I killed him.” She told us as I grabbed her arm, squeezing it knowing she just got back to somethings from her past like going to church and talking to her family a bit more. 

“What?” Courtney asked, “I know it’s wrong, but I did it.” She told us as I shook my head, “No he was a monster Yolanda. He killed innocent people, and he was going to kill all of us.” I told her as she looked at me knowing I was right, but still I could see deep down in her dark eyes that she still blamed herself and hated herself for killing him. We did continue heading for the satellites as we saw how big it was and even I couldn’t run up there that fast as Yolanda and I stood there and watched her start using the staff blowing it up. 

As one of the dishes started falling and Courtney came down I used my speed and helped the two get out of there, as I let go I could see the two dizzy as I shyly smiled, “Sorry I just had to get us out of there.” I told them as they smiled as Yolanda looked like she was going to barf from the motion sickness. As I could hear Beth through the coms. 

“Courtney Jordan’s here.” Barbara said as I looked at Courtney, “Go McKenna.” She told me as I headed my way quickly and as fast as I could to the American Dream building seeing Jordan in the doorway as I went next to Beth. “Leave them alone.” I told him as he looked at me as I knew he could freeze me badly or slow me down. “No more Dr.Mid-Nite.” He said as I jumped in hitting him as he blasted me and I could feel the cold as I wasn’t moving as fast. “McKenna.” Barbara said as I was groaning in pain feeling the cold all through my body until I fell on the ground as he smiled and I was against the wall watching Beth’s goggles getting destroyed in front of me as I couldn’t move that much due to my body still be frozen and my healing wasn’t coming in fast and I blacked out seeing Barbara being taken. 

Next thing I knew it I felt something shaking me as I still felt cold and I opened my eyes, coughing to see Yolanda, Beth, and Courtney as Courtney looked at me. “McKenna. Beth are you alright?” She asked us as I nodded, “I’ll be fine after the rest of my chest starts to get over the frostbite. But once my molecules start to warm up again. But Beth is the one that you should check on.” I said as she looked at me with sad eyes as I felt bad for not being able to help her anymore than I did. 

“He killed Chuck.” She told Yolanda and Courtney holding the goggles until Courtney looked around for her mother. “Where’s my mother?” Courtney asks her as we all heard the answer as Jordan took her to the roof most likely. As Courtney and Yolanda headed up there after making sure we were alright and I stayed with Beth as she helped me up and we both started to head down the stairs. 

“Are you sure you're alright Kenna?” She asked as I nodded, “I will be alright. It’s just taking time since cold temperatures like Icicle’s ice messes with our molecules.” I told her as she nodded, “It will be alright Beth. We will get you Chuck back.” I told her as we finally made it outside to see Rick as Rick yelled at us and Justin. 

“Beth? McKenna?” He yelled as we turned around. “Rick are you alright?” Beth asked as he nodded, “Yeah. Where is Yolanda?” He asked as we looked up at the roof seeing that Icicle and Courtney were fighting, I wish I could use my speed and help Courtney or to help Icicle. As she was struggling as an energy blast and Yolanda caught Courtney and I smiled as Icicle hit the ground hard and Barbara was struggling as Pat lifted her up. 

Yolanda helped Courtney, “You saved my life.” Courtney said to Yolanda as she nodded, “You and McKenna saved me first.” She hugged Courtney as Icicle was about to hurt us with an Ice blast until a truck hit him and we all were shocked to see Mike and Wally along with Buddy in the car. 

“Hey.” Wally said to me coming up to me, as Mike wondered if he could join the JSA. “Are you alright?” He asked me as I nodded and he hugged me as I groaned in slight pain, “I’ll be alright in the next hour.” I told him as he nodded and I went up to join the hug with Rick, Yolanda, Beth, and Courtney as we all were tired and I’m still sore as the frostbite is healing. We were smiling as I hugged Yolanda as I felt my body healing more now than earlier. 

Glancing up at the building we could see Pat and Barbara as the two were kissing, after everything that happens it’s not the most terrible thing as I see Courtney smile at her parents and that’s what got me is that I was able to be apart of this and see all these people who are my friends grow with Courtney and I. And how we all were able to continue the legacy our parents, mentors, and inspirations started in the Golden Age. 

LATER THAT DAY . . .

WE were at the football field in our normal clothing as it has been about two hours since everything happened. I did check my chest to see if there was anymore ice that was damaging my skin; luckily none remained on it as it took about an hour for it to melt earlier. As I am now in my black ripped jeans, and my red hoodie sitting on the bleachers next to Yolanda. As she was still blaming herself and feeling guilty since she killed Brainwave. And deep down Yes, I know she needs time to heal and to forgive herself and realise she has all of us on her side no matter what. 

“Look at that. It’s like it never even happened.” I heard Courtney say as I glanced up watching her, “Not really.” Rick said as us five have seen and dealt with what happened earlier today. “You okay?” I hear her ask Rick as I know just to stay here and keep to myself, “Yeah.” Rick said as they turned back to us. 

“Hey. Well fix the goggles Beth.” Courtney told Beth as she was holding the box of the broken goggles, and Chuck. “Somehow well fix them.” Courtney continued. “It’s not them, Courtney. It’s him.” Beth stated as we all knew she meant Chuck the one who helped all of us through the tunnels. “It’s Chuck.” She continued as we all felt bad for the loss of Chuck but I believe we can bring him back, there's always a way to bring things back. Even going through time you can bring back people, or machines; I wouldn’t due to the risks of creating a so-called “Flashpoint”.

“Well, then, we’ll get him up and running, Beth. Okay? Right Yolanda? McKenna?” He asked us as I nodded, “Yeah, if I could go back in time without risking a flashpoint I would. But I’m sure somewhere in Dr.McNiders research he might have something about rebuilding Chuck.” I told her as she looked at me along with the others as I shrugged my shoulders. “Yeah, sure.” Yolanda told Beth as we all knew she was still pretty affected from the situation that happened today as she still couldn’t fully see that it wasn’t her fault. 

Walking over to Barbara, Wally, Pat, Mike, and Justin we heard the discussion about, “Starman would be proud of you.” Justin told Pat as I smiled going next to Wally as I stood next to him, “He would be proud of all of you.” He continued as I smiled. “Where are you going?” Barbara asked Justin as he was about to leave. “I’m gonna go and find my horse, dear lady. Any other soldiers, I think.” Justin stated as we all smiled at him. “Hey, let me know if you find any of them. I’d like to see them again.” Pat said to Justin, “Aye.” Justin responded, “Thank you.” He told Pat as we all watched him look at all of us, “Thank you all. Until the next battle, Stargirl, Flash.” He told us as I smiled seeing Courtney smile. “Until the next battle.” Courtney said, “Until the next battle.” I also said at the same time as he entered his truck. 

Hugging Wally one last time before heading over to Yolanda and Rick we laughed as I looked at him smiling, I did hug Yolanda as we all smiled and we just stood there in the silence for a moment as I got a text from my mother as I looked at the text seeing what it said, “I heard what happened is everyone alright?” , as I responded, “Yes, everyone is fine. We all just have minor scratches and injuries. You don’t have to rush getting home.”  I responded back to her as I got a text quickly back, “Oh. I am already heading back. I’ll be home in the next day or two due to the traffic being bad in Kansas City.” My mother texted me as I smiled putting my phone back down. 

SIX WEEKS LATER . . . 

UPON arriving with Wally since my mother wouldn’t make it home until tomorrow we smiled as both were wearing holiday costumes. Me being in the stupid elf dress wearing fake ears since Wally made me do it. While he was wearing the reindeer costume, and had a collar saying Rudolph. As I did that to get back at him for making me wear this elf costume which truly isn't that bad after I put it on. 

When we did arrive we smiled as they let us in, as Rick stood next to us Pat welcomed us in as we laughed and I saw Beth who smiled towards me who was making cookies with Barbara as she was sprinkling on the sprinkles. “We have food, drinks.” Pat said as I nodded, “Thank you for letting us come on such short notice.” I told him as he nodded, “You guys are like family. You're always welcomed over.” Pat said as I laughed. “Are you sure before Wally comes over at one in the morning.” I told him as he walked into the kitchen as I hugged Yolanda as she looked at my outfit. 

She did hand me a drink of Christmas punch as Rick, Yolanda, and I clinked our glasses and took a drink. It wasn’t bad as it tasted like cranberry mostly as it had some cinnamon within the drink as we all smiled while taking another drink as I could see Wally talking to Pat about something as Yolanda looked at me, “I still can’t understand you two speedsters. And how you got him to wear that costume.” She said as I laughed, “He told me to wear this so I used his middle name against him.” I told her as she smiled, cracking a small laugh. 

I have yet to see Courtney since a few days ago, who am I kidding, since two nights ago as we were laughing about something that I can’t even remember since I wasn’t paying attention to the conversation as much as Courtney as we were laughing and smiling in her room talking to I believe midnight maybe two am. I just think that I tend to remember the smiles and laughs coming from Courtney. 

When we were gathered for the Dugan-Whitmore family photo as Mike sat up the stand to the polaroid as he was moving us until I was standing next to Courtney who was a few inches taller than me. As I was next to her, and Beth as Yolanda and Rick were behind me as I smiled. “All right Whitmore-Dugan’s let’s do this.” He told us as the photo was finally taken as Wally almost ruined it as everyone laughed and we continued to enjoy the party as I watched Courtney head upstairs with the photo. 

I decided to follow her as I watched her hang it up on her board of memories as she smiled and looked at me with the smirk still on as we stared at another until tapping was on the window and I entered her room to see the cosmic staff. As she opened her window and she smiled as I nodded my head knowing I needed to run home and grab my suit from my closet.

As I followed Courtney outside heading into the Blue Valley’s water tower in the forest as I was enjoying the snow flowing the snow behind me as I was looking how slow everything had seemed to be around me at the moment. The wind in my medium blonde hair and seeing the trees, the wind, the ice, and snow all be surrounding the settings as it’s December and soon enough we all will be a year older. 

Weeks ago if you were to tell me that I would have more friends, and meet someone who has changed my life and to grow into someone I have chosen to love...I would call you crazy, and ask if someone was playing with my head. But just to think that I would make my father proud not only carrying on his legacy in my own way. But from being me.

When I saw her stop on the Water tower I decided to use my speed and go up it, which by the way I couldn’t do weeks ago. I always tended to fear myself of what happened when I would try to use my speed. I understood the risks I took signing up with the masks and I wouldn’t change anything even if I went back. Nothing is more worth my powers than the moments like these. I looked to see the smiling face of Courtney as she sat down patting a seat next to her for me to sit. As I sat down I looked next to her as the staff moved out of her hand pushing me into Courtney more as she grabbed my arms and I laughed turning to the staff. 

“Someday I’m putting you in the crate myself.” I told the staff as it made sound in which I knew she could understand, as she laughed and told it off. “So Flash what’s next?” She asked me with a smile as we didn’t move an inch since the staff threw me into Courtney’s arms as I stared at her green eyes. “Anything you have in mind Stargirl?” I asked her flirtatiously as I threw my hands behind her neck and she pressed her lips on mine. And let’s say if anyone was looking it wasn’t perfect for a first kiss for either of us. But it was perfect for me. 

Leaning back I could see Courtney grinning as I smiled back as we both knew what happened as I moved back next to her holding her other hand. I heard a sound so I looked back to see the rebuilt S.T.R.I.P.E flying towards us as he landed next to us as we looked at him and I smiled knowing that when I first met the team I would have never believed the family I have gained out of it. 

Barry Allen once told me stories of what my father told him all those years ago...about how he never thought he would be on a team. How he thought he was the only hero, and always believed teams could be bad at first due to having trouble protecting everyone. But once my father joined the other Golden Age heroes, he understood the true meaning of not only being a hero, but being a part of a superhero family, and having that family who understands you. If only I could believe him then, but I do now. 

After asking Pat I jumped on and held on to S.T.R.I.P.E like all those weeks ago as I watched Courtney fly beside us as we were looking at the horizon after the past couple weeks after saving Blue Valley from the Villains that once decided to kill some of our greatest heroes who were parents, mentors, inspirations to the world. But now inspired the new JSA; my family to continue on the legacy that once inspired the world. 

My name is McKenna Garrick, and I’m the fastest woman alive, once my father died I believed I had nobody until I met someone I have grown to love named Courtney Whitmore. At one time I would have again called you crazy if you said I had this family of new modern JSA members taking on mantles from their parents, mentors, or just overall inspirations I would have said no. But this truly is the best thing to happen to me. I brought Justice for not only my dad, we brought Justice for them all...We built A New Society.

MEANWHILE: 3 POV. . . 

IN North Hollywood, California, a man in a Blue and white interior car took out his bag as he was wearing a leather jacket, gray shirt, blue jeans, and red sneakers as he had a light tan bag with him. He . looked down at a paper as he got out of his nice Dark Blue car. He was walking up to a brick exterior apartment complex looking for an apartment upstairs. Moments later he knocked on the door of the building management to be opened up by a man with a beard who the man in the leather jacket was looking for in order to figure out where the person he was looking for was since he wasn’t where he thought he would be. 

“Can I help you?” The manager asks as the man speaks, “I’m looking for Pat Dugan.” He told the manager as he looked at the man in front of him. “He doesn’t live here. Moved. Months ago now.” The manager told the man as he needed to know. “Any ideas where I can find him?” The man asked, trying his hardest to find Pat Dugan. “Who are you?” The manager asked the man as the man smiled. “I’m an Old friend.” The man said as he laughed at the man saying that. 

“Name’s Sylvester Pemberton.” Sylvester Pemberton said as he smiled at the man looking for Pat Dugan. Starman is alive...Starman is back. 

Meanwhile in Blue Valley during the Winter there was a brown hair girl sitting inside looking out the window, Blue Valley Highschool being out of school and all made it nice. She was looking through the reflection of the winter where the snow is glistening until someone spooks her from behind another brown haired teenager who has a bright smile. 

“Hope, don’t say you're giving up on helping us move the boxes in from the truck.” The brown hair girl behind Hope spoke, “Well it’s nothing like where I am from before we moved here. Snow is interesting never got why it became a thing from god. But it’s beautiful not only to see it in full view now.” Hope told her friend about the hot sandy outcast of Egypt weather from decades ago. If only they knew what was coming, and if only anyone knew what was coming.

A/N: Oh my gosh guys we are at the end of Book 1!

Let me tell you it has been an incredible journey writing A New Society and Justice. This book has to be one of my favorites even in my whole two drives I write on. And it has been a long journey since May; early June when writing this book. 

I want to thank everyone for the support you have been giving me on every piece for Stargirl, and the readers who have read my other books like Darkness; which I will be updating more now since I wanted to finish this. Along with my Stargirl Imagines, and the request I will be taking. And how this book started everything for what I have been planning next. 

Yes, I will be back for Stargirl S2 with McKenna Garrick this is not the end of McKenna Garrick and Courtney Whitmore and their relationship. Yes, there will be more characters which I will keep in wraps until the second book comes out due to me wanting to keep the surprise and thrill, but I will spoil this from the sequel plans so far as I will be bringing four more supporting characters who will be females. Some Yes, will have planned ships while others will be planned in the future or will just be characters. That’s all I have to say about the sequel other than I’m pumped to write it. 

If you have read this book and are looking for other Stargirl books and want something more, I have another book which is called Justice and it may or may not be fully published when I publish this chapter, and it’s about Maya King the daughter of Brainwave and her adventures along with three other supporting female superheroes, and let me say their is a difference between the two books and the characters.

My last book recommendation is Titanium → Rick Tyler (The Originals | Legacies | DC’s Stargirl) and it’s by the same author of Power → Rick Tyler (DC’s Stargirl) by @WriterScarlet0704 and I will recommend it to anyone who likes the Originals and Legacies but also loves Stargirl and Rick Tyler because for something that crosses over the author does an incredible job on portraying it. 

If I didn’t mention you book I am sorry, I tried to mention 13 books which either inspired me or I enjoyed when writing A New Society and Justice, and now Burgeon. The three Stargirl books are unique in their own way like all the Stargirl books published. And I have enjoyed seeing the fandom and fanfics of Stargirl grow as it’s becoming a bigger fandom and I’m happy to be a part of it. And if you haven’t been mentioned in this book I will make sure to mention the authors who are incredible in my sequel and continue to support the other writers of the same fandom. 

One last thank you is to Liz_425, angelic-forever, -MissSwan, and WriterScarlett_0704 for being there for me and supporting me along my journey of being here and supporting me. But also writing your own incredible stories that I love. Thank you to you guys I do respect it and I’m trying my hardest to continue making my content and in a manor pace. 

A few more things, yes there will be a few bonus chapters, I probably will do three at the most since I don’t want too many extras than three. And yes I will be publishing after this is done my Alternate ending I wrote back on June 29th. It is a great ending for what I believed would happen and planned originally for the sequel. But more information on the true sequel will be after all the extras and  Alternate ending.
