Chapter 1 - A New Rival Appears!

You can thank Cupa-Chan for getting me to post this before it was finished! :)

Ayano was sleeping soundly in her bed on a Wednesday morning, dreaming about her Senpai. On Monday and Tuesday, she had been sick with the flu. The week before, she had matchmade her third rival, Kizana Sunobu, with a boy named Sora Sosuke. She had also matchmade her second rival, Amai Odayaka, with Budo Masuta, leader of the Martial Arts Club, the week before that. And the week before that, she had gotten Senpai to reject his childhood friend Osana Najimi's love confession. Ayano's Senpai was a boy named Taro Yamada, who had black hair in a bowl haircut, and dark, dreamy eyes. He was the only thing Ayano lived for. Mom was right. Everyone comes onto this planet for a reason, she had thought upon first seeing him. And my reason is to be with him!

Ayano's phone alarm went off, and she picked it up to turn it off. She saw the time, 6:30 AM, groaned, and got out of bed. She had about twenty-five minutes before she had to leave for school, since it took ten minutes to walk to Akademi from where she lived, but only five minutes by bike. She got dressed into her school uniform and put on her Kawaii Moe Shimapan panties for the day. Another opportunity to see my Senpai, thought Ayano. Her kitten, Ninja, came into her room and mewled for food. "Alright, alright, I'll feed you if you shut up!" she laughed. A few weeks before, Ayano had found Ninja in an alleyway, thin and cold. She brought him home and cared for him, and she loved him very much. She would kill anyone who dared to harm such an innocent little furball, whom she held so close to her heart, as close as her Senpai. He was covered in soft black fur, with a black nose and golden eyes. He was a very cuddly cat, but also playful if he had the energy. Ayano made herself some cereal with bananas and ate quickly. She grabbed her bookbag and packed her things – her mechanical pencils, some lead, her textbook, her binders, and a kitchen knife; you know, just in case.

She remembered that she might get bored in class, so she packed the first two volumes of Life Note as well, a manga about a girl with a magical notebook and Ayano's favourite. After that, she had fifteen minutes left before she had to leave. She decided to clean Ninja's litter box, which took about five minutes, then watched him play on his cat fort. She had built it herself the evening she brought him home. She watched him parkour up to the top of his tower before another alarm went off on her phone, signalling that she had to leave for school. She put on her bike helmet and grabbed her bookbag. "Bye, Ninja, see you after school," she said as she scratched her kitten's head. He purred affectionately. "Don't shred the couches while I'm gone," she threw in, chuckling, as she closed the door. She sighed as she got onto her bike and let the beauty of the Japanese early morning envelop her as she rode towards Akademi. She passed Senpai on the way to school. He waved at her, while all she could do was smile at him shyly. Oh, Senpai... she thought. Soon you will be mine.

Ayano got off her bike and attached it to the bike rack at the outer left of the gate of Akademi High, then headed inside. She went to the plaza to talk to Saki, but she stopped dead in her tracks when she saw what Senpai was doing. He was talking to another girl! Senpai, I can't allow this..! Ayano said in her head. She felt tears coming on, but also felt her face heat up with anger. The anger calmed down when the girl walked away. She was dressed in purple-blue-gray spiderweb stockings and matching fingerless gloves that entirely covered her arms. Her messy, shoulder-length hair was a dark purplish-blue, and her eyes were a faded purple. Her eyes looked like she hadn't slept for days. She wore a dark blue choker with a light blue spider on it, and a red armband with a pentagram on her left arm. Info-chan told me about that girl, Ayano remembered. Oka Ruto. The leader of Akademi High's Occult Club. She's kinda creepy.

Ayano decided to follow Oka and see where she went. Oka walked down the hall, up the stairs, and onto the rooftop. She took her position behind a wall and peered around the corner. Is she spying on the Basu sisters? Sakyu and Inkyu Basu were known around the school as supernatural beings, Sakyu a succubus and Inkyu a vampire, but nobody knew if that was true or not. If Sakyu goes anywhere near my Senpai I'll kill her ASAP, Ayano vowed. She didn't like Sakyu one bit, but Inkyu was okay. She was too ditzy to be a threat to Ayano and Senpai's love. Ayano pretended to be reading Life Note on the bench so she could get a closer look at Oka, but Midori Gurin ran up and interrupted her. She was the most cheerful student in school, always had a nice thing to say, and spent her entire day on the rooftop, texting away to a mysterious person. Ayano had mixed feelings about her. "Is that Life Note?" she asked, plopping down to Ayano's right. "Yeah. I just bought it over the weekend," Ayano replied. She cracked a smile and said, "Remember, Midori, no spoilers, because we all know how many times you've spoiled a manga for other students." Midori smiled, too. "I owed Yui lunch after I spoiled the entire first issue of Yokai Story while she was reading it," she laughed.

Oka had turned around and was watching them. She left her post watching the Basu sisters and stood in front of Ayano. "May I...sit next to you..." Oka said shyly. Ayano felt sorry for her. Her voice was stammery and frail, like a precious China cup that could break if you dropped it two feet. "Sure," Ayano replied quietly, and Oka sat politely next to her. "What are you reading?" she asked. Ayano closed the book, keeping her thumb on her page, and showed the cover to Oka. "Life Note," her rival said. "I haven't read it... Can I maybe... borrow it, when you're done...?" Ayano noticed that she sounded tired and anxious. "Of course," she told her. "It's good so far. Want to read it with me?" A cute smile lit up Oka's pale face. "That would be...nice.." she whispered. Midori reminded the others she was there by introducing them. "Ayano-chan, this is Oka Ruto, leader of the Occult Club. Oka, this is Ayano Aishi." Ayano and Oka smiled at each other, and all three of them read Ayano's manga while Sakyu Basu gossiped about them to her sister. After a while, it was time to go to class, so Midori waved good-bye to Oka, Ayano and the Basu sisters as they headed down to their classrooms. Oka smiled weakly, Inkyu waved back, Sakyu hmphed snobbishly, and Ayano simply nodded back to Midori, who was already taking out her phone again. Oka may be nice, but she wants my Senpai, and I have a job to do, Ayano reminded herself. Oka Ruto has to die before this week ends on Friday.

But she wasn't sure if she really wanted to kill Oka. Her dark, "Yan" side said that Oka needed to die, while the sweet, compassionate "Dere" part of her mind wanted to be friends with the shy girl. She is quite endearing. She makes her way to your heart fast... Ayano mentally slapped herself. No! she said in her head. She is a rival, and you have the urge to kill. Kill her, and get it over with! Ayano proceeded to fight with her brain on what to do about Oka and Senpai. You are Yandere-chan. Killing is in your blood. Oka wants your Senpai, the only one who makes you feel like a real person. You have to stop her, Yandere-chan. She has to die. Eventually, her "Yan" side won the battle, and Ayano planned her attack. She would kill her current rival when her trust for Ayano was peaked.
