A New Neighbour
It was 13 days before Halloween when she noticed something going on with the old Manor on the hill. It was a small thing at first, then a whole team of people came. They were in and out and away at night.
"Papa, have you noticed the man around the hill?" She asked her father one morning while they had breakfast.
He grunted into his coffee "yes a new family must have bought it."
she hummed putting butter on her toast. "Do you know anything about them?"
"No," he said, " I think I saw someone before Construction started." He then looked over the newspaper " I don't want to hear you have been bugging them."
She rolled her eyes with a smile " can't help when the animals need my help." She then finished her simple breakfast and was about to head out when her father added.
"Before you go out, school comes first. Your tutors comes at 2:00 p.m. today"
She paused looking back at him with a smile "yes papa."
She then went up to her study in the manner. It was a colonial Plantation and has been in your family since the founding of the town. Since she started High School she has had her own wing. fit with a study, sitting room, a bedroom and balcony with an ensuite attached. They lived a good distance away from other manners in the neighborhood but close enough to wave once in a while.
It was only a couple hours later she found herself ready to go outside. She went to the kitchen and packed herself some lunch and then headed off.
She made her way to her spot on her family land. It was a small Meadow with the perfect spot to sketch.
It was a few hours later when she came to a stop and started picking up her stuff when a snap of a stick was heard. "Hello," she called out looking around to see if something was different. She stood up with everything in her bag. She started to head her way home when someone stepped out from a tree out of the corner of her eye.
She quickly turned towards the person full on. He had dark blonde curly hair with blue green eyes "who are you?" she asked the man watching intently.
The man raised his hand in the universal sign of meaning no harm, "sorry I was just wandering around." He said it was about to take a step but stopped when she took a step back. "I'm Nick Nick Mikaelson the-"
"New Manor owners?" she asked, shocked as she never saw him around the house.
"Yes I am. I was just wandering around. I don't mean any harm."
She hummed "well, it's nice to meet you but I have to head back home. My tutor will be here soon.
"Well, since I'm new, would you mind if I join you? You can tell me all about this town.
"Sure," she said after a moment. The walk back was quite enjoyable. They got into a fascinating topic for her. history. She always felt intrigued by it and to add to it he was one as well.
They made it back to the road where she paused. "This one is mine," she said with a small feeling of sadness. "I must get ready for my tutor. It was wonderful to meet you Nick."
He smiled looking down at her "it was a pleasure. I am sure we will meet again soon." He then paused and she watched as he looked into her eyes. "No need to mention you met me yet." She smiled blinking and then said her goodbyes heading into her house.
It was a few days later she got ready for the day meeting her dad. "Good morning Papa," she greeted him, who was reading the paper.
"Morning Rose '' he responded by setting the paper down. "I believe the family moved in last night."
She looked up from her plate "really?" she said, thinking back to nick. She never found herself telling her father about that for some reason but she had a good time with a man. "Maybe I should go over with a welcome basket."
Her father gave her an amused look "hoping for someone cute?"
She chuckled and blushed, "well you and Mom were neighbors." He smiled clearly, reminiscing on the time with her mother.
"Well if you do go don't forget tutoring is at 3:00 today."
"Yes papa" she stated as the two happily finished the breakfast, talking about randomness and memories.
She nervously walked up to the white newly restored manner with a basket of goodies. She ran her empty hand on her dress, smoothing out nerves as she raised her hand and knocked on the door.
A few seconds later the door opened and she gasped at the quickness of the move. She calmed her nerves and looked at the person before her. There was a teen about her age with brown hair and equally brown eyes standing before her.
"Hi," she said suddenly shyly as the teen flashed a dimple worthy smile.
"Hello beautiful. What brings you here?"
"I live at the Manor on the other side and we noticed movers." She then showed him the basket "I wanted to welcome you and your family to the neighborhood," she finished saying as she was wondering what she got herself into.
"Well thank you cutie," he said, his eyes twinkling with mischief. She held out the basket but he didn't take it. "Why don't you come in," he said instead.
She paused, shocked at the invite "I don't want to intrude."
He chuckled "nonsense you aren't intruding. Come, we can put the basket in the kitchen." She stepped into the home seeing an elegant and true way with a wood banister wrapping around the marble staircase.
"It's amazing" she said in awe following the teen.
"Thanks though it was my big brother who orchestrated it all."
"brother?" she asked, thinking about Nick who now she realized looks similar to the teen.
"Got three older ones and an older sister."
"Wow, holidays must be a pain with four other siblings."
He let out a full belly laugh and mumbled "you haven't the foggiest" they then continued down the way when he turned back to her "here we are the kitchen."
She looked around to find a very modern kitchen. She walked over to the island and set the basket down on the counter island. "Would you want anything to drink? Soda water, blood-"
She gave him a funny look. "I know it's only 10 days till Halloween you don't need to go all out."
He gave it a dimple smile holding his hands up "it's one of my favorite holidays with monsters and Spooks going about."
She laughed "yes it is my favorite holiday too" she said as she played with a soda can in front of her. "Do you believe that monsters and spooks exist?
He gave her a knowing look that she didn't understand "yes I do."
"What, like ghosts, werewolves, vampires?"
"And don't forget witches too," he added.
"Right the Hocus Pocus and all that." she laughed while taking a sip of the soda.
"Do you believe in monsters, I mean."
"Yes but anyone can be a monster; they don't need Legends and stories to be a monster."
Looking into the basket and plucking out a cookie; it was pumpkin. He took a bite and hummed again. "These are good." He looked up at her, "you made these?"
She nodded apprehensively 'they're my mom's recipe she used to make them every year."
"Used to?" he asked softly.
"She died protecting me when I was 10."
"She loves you lots then."
"Yes, lots of moms do."
His eyes grew dark as he said "not all mothers do-"
"Kol" a sharp voice sounded at the entry of the kitchen. She looked over to see a stiff older lady standing there.
"Kol" She said again, "Why don't you introduce our visitor."
She could feel the tension between the two." This is our neighbor-"
"Rosealine" she said, holding out her hand while the lady grabbed it hesitantly "Esther."
She let go quickly, sort of uncomfortable feeling happened when Esther grabbed her hand "I'm Kol's mother" she said.
"Wonderful to meet you" she watched Esther fully into the room "I was just dropping off a welcome basket. Your son was just being a gentleman."
"Well thank you for the thought. I am sure we will enjoy it while we have dinner tonight." She heard Esther and she can feel the tension getting stronger for some reason
"Yes" she said with a nervous chuckle, "I must be heading home. My tutor should be arriving soon." She then turned to leave not feeling welcomed by his mom so she left the house quickly
It was the 22nd of October and she woke up like any other day. She crossed off another day getting excited for Halloween. It's always been her favorite. Her mom also made it special. They did everything together and her favorite part is convincing her dad to join them.
"Good morning Rose."
"Morning Papa" she greeted her dad as she joined him for breakfast. "What's your plan for today?"
I am needed in the office today so I will be home late tonight.
She nodded, being a CEO he only was needed every couple days. Due to this it felt it left her alone with the small working staff. okay she responded
"I thought about stopping by the ice cream place on the way home." They shared a smile. It was her favorite ice cream in the city. It always makes her day better.
"Thanks Pa-" a knock on the door interrupted her.
"A package was delivered" Sophie the caretaker said while she came in with a large box and a letter "It's for you Rose."
"Oh." She said getting up to look at the items. "To Rosalie she read, flipping the envelope over him she added looking at the intricate in shaped wax she cracked the sale and pulling out the card she read you are casually invited to join the Mikaelson family. this evening at 7:00. for dancing cocktails and celebration."
"Well now I know what you'll be busy doing today." her father joked as he looked over the card when she passed it to him. "I'll save the ice cream for you."
She looked shocked. "Really, can I go?"
He chuckled. "It's not everyday that my daughter gets a special invitation from the son. "I bet it's the youngest."
"What," she asked, taking back the invitation on the back was indeed a message save me a dance yours Kol Mikaelson she paused PS hope you like it she then looked at the large package.
She walked up the steps picking up the thick skirt not to trip on her ball gown. She was surprised when she opened the box to find a navy blue sequined ball gown. There's intricate black Vines going through the bodice and over the neckline with a flowing off the shoulder fabric. she was amazed that it fit her with the tie up corset. It was magnificent with matching shoes to go with it. She finally made it to the door where she presented the invite and the two guards then opened the Grand doors. Music wafted through the door and many people gathered around pause looking at her. she blushed at the attention but walked in.
Suddenly the clinking of glass was heard and silence fell. She looked to the stairs where the mother stood at the most top of the stairs. Next to her was a younger man of dark blonde and brown hair. Then there was a man with black and brown hair followed by Nick in a black suit with a bow tie. The last two were a girl in a gorgeous dress and then Kol who was looking right at her. She blushed and smiled at him which caused him to wink at her.
The one next to Nick spoke something but she was too focused on Kol to hear. She then blinked and everyone was moving to the next room. She headed there but was suddenly stopped by a body in front of her. She looked up to find Kol who was looking at head down as he was only a few inches taller than her.
"A beauty such as you needs an equally handsome dance party partner."
She smirked "and do you think you are the one."
"Oh I know I'm the one." She laughed at his response but didn't stop him from pulling her to the dance floor.
He led her hand to his shoulder as the music started. She leaned her head on him letting him guide them through the dance.
The rest of the night went wonderful for her. She danced with Kool and even met Elijah and Finn called Kol's eldest Brothers. They were polite but she felt they were worried about something.
To get a break the two went out through the back garden. Kol even gave her a tour of the manor and even snuck into Nick's art studio. Just to say she was amazed he was an understatement. The pieces she saw were astounding. Kol kept making snide comments but she can tell that he was proud of his older brother.
She was currently looking for Kol. She went to the restroom to refresh herself. She weaved in and out of people here and there and then made her way to the front entrance when she noticed movement outside. She opened the door and gassed in shock as a body laid on the ground with a man standing over him.
"Kol!" she shouted, running up to Kol's prone figure. She shook him but there's no response. "Kol!"
By now a group was around them. She heard some talking but she was too focused on Kol. Suddenly she felt someone touch her shoulder. "Rose" came from her right "Rose look at me please."
Hurt here filled eyes lifted up to Nick who smiled "there's those gorgeous eyes." He started rubbing tears away with his thumb. He then looked into her eyes intently and she just felt a sudden wave stopped her thoughts. "You had a wonderful night with Kol and you came outside for some air before deciding to go home. Kol even walked you home where you said your goodbyes for the night." The words washed over her blinking and she realized she was in her room.
She smiled at the memories of the night she really had a wonderful night. Climbing into bed after changing she really couldn't stop smiling at the thought of being glad she meant the neighbors and had new friends.
Happy Halloween here is our last for Halloween 2023! Hope you enjoyed and have a spooktacular day!
