Chapter 18
Unaware of how long he'd been out there Chance continued to struggle to hold on and stay inside the boat. Waves crashing against and atop the bow, thrashing him from side to side, he yelled at himself about how stupid he'd been going out without telling anyone. As he took a second to wipe his eyes the waves heaved the boat upward, sending him down into the small, cramped space beneath the deck. Chance struck his head on a post, knocking him unconscious as the waves continued to pound the deck.

Tim tossed and turned, unable to sleep, thinking of everything Marcus had told him. He slipped out of bed taking his phone with him to the living room. As he looked through the numerous texts and photos his phone rang.
Looking at the caller ID he quickly answered, "Momma? Is everything alright" he asked nervously, hopping nothing was wrong with her or Emily.
"We're fine, but how are you. I felt something was wrong" she asked with concern.
She knew, she always knew. She had that sixth sense just like Caroline had. He was hesitant, he didn't want her to worry but he couldn't keep anything from his momma. She had seen him through his darkest days, and if nothing else he needed her prayers.
"Momma, it's Chance. He's missing" he quietly began "he left at the beginning of this break and didn't tell any of us where he was going or why"
Dena had grown to love Chance as one of her own, trying to hide her emotion she asked if they had any clue to where he may have gone, she asked if Maggie knew.
"I assume so by now, Marcus called me to see if I knew he was there, Jake found his clothes and suitcase" Tim told her.
"Sweetie, if his clothes are there, how can he be missing" she questioned.
"Momma....the boat.. it's gone...they think he's on the boat in the middle of a huge coastal storm" he replied.
"Oh my, Maggie must be beside herself" Dena said.
"Momma, it's my fault..I messed up again" he said, his voice shaking.
"Timmy, it's not your fault. He's a grown man, he can decide where he goes on his own" she told him, trying to sound reassuring.
"I should have known, though. I should have known that's where he would go" he stated.
"Son, stop beating yourself up, its not your fault" Dena said.
"I didn't see the signs, Momma. I wasn't there for him like before. I didnt even realize that's where he would go till we all looked at the picture" he said.
"Picture? What picture?" she asked.
Tim explained the picture and the tattoo to his mother. "I don't understand why I didn't think of it sooner" he said solemnly.
"Sometimes the answers we are searching for are right in front of us, we just don't always see them clearly" she offered. Tim was silent for a bit, wiping his eyes, he knew she was right. Instead of being upset about what he hadn't done, he needed to concentrate more on what he had to do to find him.
"What time is your flight" she asked, breaking the silence.
Tim smiled a little, yes she knew, she knew he wouldn't be able to wait for answers, he needed to find him and would take great lengths to do so. "Five am" he replied.
"Get some rest and be careful son, keep me posted. I'll be praying for you both. You'll find him Tim" she assured him "I love you"
"Thank you Momma, I love you too".
