Chapter 2

November's POV

Oct and I stand at the bus stop. Its empty, and I am not complaining. We haven't talked to each other since yesterday, when we said "ice cream" at the same time.

When the bus arrives, we both quietly get on. We sit next to each other, but other than that, we don't say a word to one another.

****

We get off the bus and walk towards the school. When we were younger, we moved around a lot because of my dad's job as a Navy captain. We were living in Arudium City for five years when he died. We decided to stay there after his death, since that house had held many memories. Its been seven years since we last moved. When we were younger, we would hold hands when we walked into a new school. Today, we just walk through the doors of the new school. It feels weird, not holding hands while walking into a new school.

We were told to go to the main office when we arrive, and that is exactly what we did.

"Names?" the woman at the desk asks, not looking up from her computer screen.

"October and November Rainhart." Oct answers her.

"Oh, your the new kids." the woman finally looks up.

"Yea." Oct says.

The woman gets up and walks into a room.

"One second, Mrs. Wilton will be out in a second." she says, walking out of the room. "Take a seat."

October and I sit down. A few minutes later, another woman walks out of the room with a girl who looks like she is in my grade.

"Hello. I am Mrs. Wilton." the woman introduces herself. "Now, who is October and who is November?" she asks, looking between the both of us.

"I'm November, that's October." I say.

"Huh, nice. I can't wait to get to know you two better, but right now, I have some important work to do." Mrs. Wilton says. She gestures to the girl standing with her. "This is Melody Sanders. She is a part of our Red Carpet Club for new students. She will show you around the school. Go on now girls." Mrs. Wilton hands October and me our schedules.

****

Turns out I have one class with October, Science. However, Melody is practically in all my classes, except for Home Ed. Melody told me that one of her brothers(a senior named Marcus) is in three of my classes, Gym, Home Ed, and Science, while her other brother, Michael, is in my English and Science class. She's really nice, and we both are in homeroom, which is where we are right now. After Melody showed October and me the entire school, Oct went off to her homeroom and Melody and I came to ours.

"Ok, I'm going to take attendance, if you will calm down please." the homeroom teacher, Mr. Stephens says.

He goes through the names, which I zone out to, until he calls my name.

"November Rainhart." he calls. "Now, guys, this is Nov-" he is interrupted by the door opening.

"Mr. Stephens, you forgot to lock the door again." a familiar voice says.

I look at the door and I see that guy from the ice cream parlor. Behind him is the same guy who was at the parlor, but there is also a girl with them too.

"Oh, Marcus!" Mr. Stephens says. "Come in and take a seat. You are lucky that the still didn't ring."

As if on cue, the late bell rings and the three people walk into the class. Unfortunately, they sit right behind me.

"Ok, so where was I?" he looks down the roster. "Oh, right. November, would you like to stand and tell us a bit about yourself?"

"Uh, ok." I stand up, suddenly nervous. I twist the scrunchies that I now wear on my left hand to cover the scars of my past. "Um, I'm November Rainhart. I have an identical twin sister, and I would like to be called Nova." I look at Mr. Stephens, hoping he would let me sit, but he has to be evil.

"That is amazing Nova. What is your favorite subject?" he asks.

"Um, I like Math and Science."

"Oh, do you play any sports?"

"Yea, I play Volleyball." I reply.

"Thats nice. We have an amazing girl's volleyball team here, you might want to try out." he suggests.

"Yea, I might." I say.

"Ok, please take a seat." he finally says, relieving me of my misery and absolute misery. He continues with attendance.

"Marcus Sanders."

"Right here Mr. Stephens." ice cream parlor guy's voice says behind me.

Marcus is Melody's brother's name. I think.

"Melody Sanders." Mr. Stephens calls.

"Here." Melody answers from next to me.

Its either a coincidence that they have the same last name, or ice-cream-parlor-guy is Melody's older brother. He looks uncannily almost like Michael, except Marcus is much cuter. Hang on, did I just think that?

****

Melody and I walk to lunch after my Home Ed and her Theater class. She told me that she wants to pursue a career in acting and join Hollywood.

"Well, I want to introduce you my other friend, Jace. Oh, and my brother, Michael. You already saw Marcus, he was the one who interrupted during homeroom this morning." she says as we sit down at a table. So far, we are the only ones at the table. Mom had packed me and October a sandwich, which is practically the only thing she can me besides lasagna without burning down the whole house.

A few minutes later, some guy sit down with us.

"Hey Melody." the guy says.

"Hey Jace." Melody says. "Jace, meet Nova. Nova, meet my annoying friend, Jace."

"Hey." Jace says.

I give him a light smile.

"Hi."

"Wait, aren't you in my English class?" he asks me.

"Oh, no. That would probably be my twin sister, October." I say.

"Oh! Identical twins?"

"Yup."

A few moments later, another shadow falls on the table as I eat my lunch. I look up and see Michael.

"Michael!" I exclaim in utter shock.

"Nova!" he says in a tone equivalent to mine.

"You two know each other?" Melody asks.

"Yea, we met in Arudium City." he tells her.

"Hey, where's October?" he asks me.

"Hey, October! Come sit with us!" an immensely fake female voice cuts through the rest of the noise in the cafeteria before I can answer Michael. I look up to see October at the door.

She starts walking towards the general direction I heard the fake voice from. She reaches the table with Marcus, and another girl that I saw.

"There she is." I say as she sits down at the table with her new friends.

"What is she doing there? Those are the popular kids. She shouldn't be sitting with them." Melody says.

I keep staring at the back of my twin sister's head. Its almost like she felt me looking, because she turns around and for the first time since my suicide attempt, we look each other in the eye. I quickly turn away and the rest of the day passes by in a blur.

Soon, its my last period class, Gym. I walk into the gym to find a teacher.

"Uh, go into the locker room honey." a voice says.

"Oh, uh, I'm new here, and I was told that I would get my locker assignment?" I say it like its more of a question than a statement.

"Um-" she says as she turns to her computer. "Yup! Found you. I'm guessing your November Rainhart?" she asks.

"Yea." I nod.

"I'm Coach Reynolds." she says. "Come on, I'll show you your locker."

****

After I change into a more gym-like attire, I walk out with the rest of the girls into the spacious gym. To my surprise and happiness, there are volleyball nets set up. The boys come out of their locker room too.

"Ok, Coach Rogers and I decided to play volleyball today, since volleyball is amazing. We will start off with one minute one-on-one matches, girls v boys. Now, let's start off with some stretches first." Coach Reynolds says.

After that, she has us do some stretches, and then starts calling two names at a time. I am the last person called. Its shocking that none of the girls' last names go past 'R'. And, unfortunately, I am have to play against ice cream parlor guy Marcus. I stretch my arms a bit and move around to get my blood flowing through my body.

"Hello cupcake." Marcus says.

I roll my eyes. "My name is November." I say.

"Meh. Too hard to remember." he says.

I roll my eyes again.

"Rolling your eyes is bad for your soul." he says, making me roll my eyes again.

"Ok guys, play rock papers scissors." Coach Rogers says. "Best two out of three."

Marcus and I play r.c.s and he ends up winning.

"Okay, Marcus, start off the game on your court!" Coach Rogers says.

"Man, I'm gonna win this." Marcus says.

I stretch my hands. "Oh, bring it on!" I say.

The whistle blows, and Marcus serves the ball. I move back, until I realize that it will go out of bounds for sure. I duck before it can hit me in the head, and it hits right outside the white tape which marked the boundary. I smirk as the girls cheer for me. I pick up the ball and serve. He gets under the ball and sets it. I know that it won't come straight for me, and that it will most likely fall just after passing the net. I run forward and bump the ball lightly.

****

I walk out of the girl's locker room and head for my locker.

"Hey, cupcake!" I hear behind me. I sigh in annoyance as Marcus appears next to me a few seconds later.

"What do you want?" I ask him.

"How's you learn to play volleyball so well?" he asks.

"I played on the girls team in my other school." I reply.

"Oh, nice. You know, if time hadn't run out, I would've won."

I scoff. "Yea, right. I beat you 10-4."

"I was going easy on you cupcake."

"Stop calling me that." I say.

"Hey, Marcus!" a voice says behind me.

"Hey Drew!" Marcus says, turning around.

"Hey Mark!" a female's voice says.

"Val!" Marcus says.

I speed up, but Marcus catches up with me.

"Cupcake, meet my best friend, Andrew and my girlfriend, Mia." Marcus introduces.

I turn around and see two other people. The girl is really pretty, and she seems so familiar.

"I'm November." I introduce myself.

"November. Wait, you were the girl who bumped into us that day! At the ice cream parlor! Why does Mark call you cupcake?" Andrew asks.

"No clue. Ask him." I say.

Marcus puts his arm around my shoulders, and I see Mia giving me the death stare.

"Because, she smells like cupcakes."

**Three Weeks Later**

Its been close to three weeks now. Marcus and his friends talk to me a lot. Well, Marcus tends to enjoy harassing me in the few classes that I have with him. Mia and Andrew are in a few of my classes too.

"November." Mrs. Carter calls out to me before I could leave the room.

"Yes Mrs. Carter?" I ask, hanging back while the rest of my classmates leave.

"November, you are amazing at math, so I was wondering if you could tutor one of my students." she says.

"Uh, yea, sure." I say. At that moment, Marcus walks in.

"Ok. I need you to tutor Marcus Sanders for me." she says.

"Oh, um. I don't know..." I trail off.

"Please November. I need to stay on the team, and math is the only subject that I have a C in right now." Marcus pleads.

I look at Mrs. Carter.

"I'll do it." I say.
