Chapter 7
Third person's pov
The next morning, the door of Jungkook's hospital room swung open, and a doctor and nurse walked in. The doctor was carrying a clipboard, while the nurse wheeled in a cart with medical equipment.
"Good morning, Mr. Park," the doctor greeted Jungkook with a smile. "Let's check your vitals, shall we?"
Jungkook nodded, a bit groggy from the medications but feeling better than the night before. The nurse efficiently wrapped the blood pressure cuff around his arm and took his temperature.
"Your BP is normal, and your temperature is back to normal as well," the doctor said, jotting down the numbers on his clipboard. "You're stable now. I think we can discharge you today."
Hyunjae, who had been standing by the window, listening intently, let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you, doctor," he said, slightly bowing.
The doctor nodded. "I'll start the discharge paperwork. You can come with me to handle the formalities," he said to Hyunjae.
Hyunjae turned to Jungkook and Sujae, who was curled up in Jungkook's arms, looking impossibly small despite being nearly 3 times as tall as Jungkook. "I'll be right back, eomma," Hyunjae said softly.
As Hyunjae left the room with the doctor, the nurse stayed behind to monitor Jungkook a little longer.
"Sujae, you're getting too big for this," Jungkook teased gently, ruffling Sujae's hair. "But I love it when you cuddle with me."
"I am never going to be too big for this," Sujae said hiding his face completely in Jungkook's chest.
Jungkook kissed the top of Sujae's head with a smile.
After Jungkook got discharged, Hyunjae went to the office while Sujae stayed at home with Jungkook.
At the office, Hyunjae sat at his desk, scrolling through the list of interviewees from the previous day. His keen eyes scanned the names and profiles, recalling each conversation and assessing the candidates' potential. After a thorough review, he selected a few promising candidates and pressed the intercom button on his desk.
"Mr. Lee, could you come in?" he said, addressing his personal assistant.
Mr. Lee entered the room promptly. "Yes, Mr. Park?"
Hyunjae handed him the clipboard with the selected names. "Please call these individuals and congratulate them on securing the position. Inform them about the onboarding process and schedule."
Mr. Lee nodded, taking the clipboard. "Right away, sir."
Meanwhile, in Taehyung's home, Taewon was lounging on the couch, lazily munching on an apple while scrolling through his phone. Suddenly, it rang, and he saw an unknown number flashing on the screen. Curious, he answered the call.
"Hello?"
"Hello, Mr. Kim Taewon?" a professional voice on the other end asked.
"Yes," Taewon replied, sitting up a bit straighter.
"This is from Park Enterprises. We are pleased to inform you that you have been selected for the position you interviewed for. Congratulations!"
For a moment, Taewon was stunned into silence. "Uh, okay," he mumbled and hung up the phone in a daze.
But as the realization dawned on him, his face broke into a wide grin. He sprang up from the couch, shouting in excitement, "I got the job! I got the job!"
He started jumping up and down, his excitement overflowing. Taehyung, hearing the commotion, walked into the living room with a curious expression. "What's all the noise about?" he asked.
Taewon turned to his father, his face glowing with happiness. "Appa, I got the job! I actually got the job!"
Taehyung raised an eyebrow, "It's okay, Taewon. Don't worry if you didn't get it this time. There will be other opportunities-"
Taewon shook his head vigorously, grabbing Taehyung by the shoulders. "No, Appa, you don't understand. I got the job! They called and said I got it!"
Taehyung's eyes widened in surprise, and then his smile grew wider. "You really got the job?"
"Yes, I did!" Taewon exclaimed, hugging his father tightly.
Taehyung patted his son's back, " Congratulations woonie."
Taewon pulled back, his face still beaming with joy. "I can't believe it, Appa. I'm going to be working at Park Enterprises!" Taehyung chuckled, ruffling Taewon's hair.
The next day at Park Industries, Taewon strode into the office wearing a well-fitted suit and a bright smile. He greeted everyone he passed, feeling a mix of nerves and excitement. As he reached the main office area, the team manager, Mr. Choi, approached him.
"Good morning, Mr. Kim. Welcome to the team," Mr. Choi said warmly. "Let me introduce you to everyone."
Taewon followed Mr. Choi around the office, shaking hands and exchanging polite greetings with his new colleagues. "Good luck working here, Mr. Kim," Mr. Choi finally said, patting him on the back.
"Thank you, Mr. Choi. I'm looking forward to it," Taewon replied,
Just then, Hyunjae's personal assistant approached them. "Mr. Kim, Mr. Park is calling for you."
Taewon's heart skipped a beat. "Already?" he muttered under his breath. He quickly followed the PA to Hyunjae's office, taking a deep breath before stepping inside.
"Good morning, Mr. Park," Taewon said, trying to sound confident.
Hyunjae barely looked up from his desk. "Congratulations on getting the job," he said in a cold tone. He then handed Taewon a large stack of papers. "I need 50 copies of these. And get me a coffee."
Taewon nodded, his confidence wavering. "Yes, Mr. Park."
He hurried out of the office, struggling with the bulky stack of papers. He found the copier and began the tedious process of making the 50 copies, trying to keep the papers from spilling everywhere. After what felt like an eternity, he finally finished and then headed to the break room to make the coffee.
Taewon had never been much of a coffee maker, but he did his best, carefully measuring the grounds and water. He brought the coffee back to Hyunjae's office, placing it on the desk with a hopeful smile.
Hyunjae took a sip and immediately spat it out. "Make it again," he ordered without looking up.
Taewon's smile faltered, but he nodded. "Yes, Mr. Park."
This process repeated itself over 20 times. Each time, Hyunjae took a sip and then demanded a new cup. Taewon grew increasingly frustrated. On the twentieth attempt, he muttered to himself, "If he doesn't like this one, I am going to put poison in it." as he stormed back to the break room.
Finally, out of sheer exasperation, Taewon decided to make a random combination. He haphazardly mixed the coffee grounds and water, not caring about the proportions, and brought the cup back to Hyunjae's office.
Hyunjae took a sip, and to Taewon's surprise, he didn't spit it out. Instead, he looked up at Taewon with a raised eyebrow. "This one is actually good. You can go now."
Taewon blinked, stunned. "Uh, yes, Mr. Park."
He left the office, still in shock that Hyunjae had finally accepted the coffee. As he walked back to his desk, he muttered, "Figures he'd like the one I didn't even try with."
At Home with Jungkook.........
Jungkook sat on the living room couch, the remote in his hand, flipping through channels aimlessly. The large mansion felt especially empty without Hyunjae and Sujae around.
He sighed, glancing at the clock. The silence was almost oppressive, broken only by the occasional sound of the maids moving about the house. Hyunjae had left strict instructions that Jungkook wasn’t to leave the house, and the guards and staff were enforcing this rule to the letter.
"Mrs. Park, can I get you something?" one of the maids asked, peeking her head into the room.
Jungkook shook his head. "No, thank you, I'm fine."
Suddenly, the doorbell rang, echoing through the large halls. The maid quickly moved to answer it. Moments later, she returned.
"Sir, there’s a man at the door. He says his name is Yujin and he’s here to see you."
Jungkook's face darkened at the mention of the name. "What?" He stood up abruptly, his heart pounding. "Tell him to go away."
The maid nodded and went but again came back a few moments later, " Sir, he is saying that he won't leave until you talk to him."
Jungkook sighed and then said," Fine, let him in."
The maid nodded and led Yujin into the living room where Jungkook was already present. Yujin stepped forward, his eyes meeting Jungkook's.
" What do you want?" Jungkook said, breaking their eye contact.
"Jungkook," Yujin began softly, "it's been so long."
He then took a step closer, grabbing Jungkook's arm gently. "Please, Jungkook, just hear me out."
Jungkook yanked his arm away, eyes blazing. "So long? So what? My wounds are the same, my pain is the same. If you had even taken a tiny step for me that day, hyung, everything...... would have been d-different."
Yujin looked stricken. "Jungkook, I-"
"Get out!" Jungkook shouted, his voice shaking. "I don't want to have any fucking connection with any one of you."
Yujin tried to speak again, but Jungkook turned to the guards standing nearby. "Get him out. And if he comes again, don’t let him in."
The guards nodded and moved toward Yujin, who looked like he wanted to say more but saw the resolve in Jungkook's eyes. With a final glance, Yujin was escorted out of the mansion.
Jungkook watched until the door closed behind Yujin, then turned and stormed toward his room.
In his room, Jungkook paced back and forth, trying to calm himself down. His thoughts drifted back to the past, to the day everything fell apart. He remembered Yujin standing by, doing nothing.
A soft knock on the door interrupted his thoughts. "Mr. Jeon, should I bring you some tea?" a maid asked hesitantly.
Jungkook sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Yes, please. And could you bring me my medication as well?"
The maid nodded and hurried off. Jungkook sat on the edge of his bed, burying his face in his hands. He felt exhausted, not just physically but emotionally. Every time he thought he had moved past the pain, something dragged him back into the memories.
The maid returned with a tray, setting it down on the bedside table. "Here you go, sir," she said softly.
"Thank you," Jungkook murmured, taking the tea and sipping it slowly.
After a few minutes.........
Jungkook lay on his bed, staring at the ceiling, trying to will himself to sleep. He had taken his medication, hoping it would help him relax, but his mind refused to cooperate. Instead, it dragged him back to a place he wished he could forget.
Flashback:
Jungkook stood in front of his family, trembling. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jeon, and his elder brothers, Yujin and Jihoon, glared at him. The tension in the room was suffocating.
Mrs. Jeon took a step forward, her face contorted with rage. "How dare you!" she screamed, her voice echoing off the walls.
Before Jungkook could react, she slapped him hard across the face, the force of it making him stumble backward.
"Mom, please," Jungkook started, but another slap silenced him. She hit him again and again, each strike more vicious than the last. Jungkook's cheek burned, tears welling up in his eyes.
Jihoon, standing to the side, tried to intervene. "Eomma, stop—"
"DON'T INTERRUPT ME!" Mrs. Jeon shouted.
She grabbed Jungkook by the shoulders, shaking him violently. "DO YOU THINK I RAISED YOU SO THAT YOU CAN RUN AWAY WITH SOMEONE? IT'S OUR LUCK THAT, THAT BASTARD DIDN'T SHOWED UP OTHERWISE YOU HAD SPARED NO EFFORTS IN DESTROYING PUR REPUTATION!"
She hit him again, her palm leaving a red mark on his skin. Jungkook's vision blurred from the tears, the room spinning around him. "How can you do this?" she screamed,
Mr. Jeon, standing behind her, grabbed Jungkook by the arm, "Get out," he ordered the others. "I want to be with him alone."
Jungkook's eyes widened with fear. "No, please," he begged, trying to pull away. He ran behind Yujin, clutching his arm desperately. "Hyung, please save me, please."
Yujin didn't say a word, just looked at Jungkook with pity before turning and leaving the room with Jihoon and Mrs. Jeon.
"No, don't leave me," Jungkook cried, but the door closed behind them, leaving him alone with his father.
Mr. Jeon’s expression was one of cold fury. He didn't waste any time, grabbing a shoe from the floor and hitting Jungkook with it. Each strike felt like fire against his skin. When the shoe wasn't enough, Mr. Jeon grabbed a belt, the buckle scraping against Jungkook's flesh with every lash. Jungkook screamed, but his cries went unheard, the walls of the room absorbing his pain.
"You've brought nothing but shame to this family," Mr. Jeon snarled. He hit Jungkook again and again, not stopping until he was exhausted and Jungkook lay on the floor.
Jungkook curled into a ball, his body wracked with sobs. The pain was unbearable, but what hurt more was the pain of betrayal from the one who used to say that he can't live without him.
Flashback end.......
Jungkook jolted awake, his body drenched in sweat. His heart pounded in his chest, the echoes of his father's rage still ringing in his ears. He sat up, his hands trembling as he wiped away the tears streaming down his face.
He hugged his knees to his chest, trying to calm his racing heart. The memories were as vivid as if they had happened yesterday, each detail etched into his mind.
A soft knock on the door startled him. "Mrs. Park are you alright?" one of the maids asked,
Jungkook took a deep breath, trying to steady his voice. "I'm fine," he called out, though he was anything but fine.
He lay back down, staring at the ceiling once more. He closed his eyes, willing the images to go away, but they clung to him like a dark cloud, refusing to let go.
