Chapter 43
Third person's pov
After a few days, everything was going well. Taewon found himself thinking about Jaekhyung more often, noticing little things about him that he hadn't before. Meanwhile, Hyunjae was also starting to feel a strange pull towards Jaekhyung.
One night, Hyunjae was in his room, typing away on his laptop when Taewon barged in.
“Don’t you know how to knock?” Hyunjae said, looking up with an annoyed expression.
“Leave that,” Taewon dismissed, waving his hand. “I came here to ask if you wanted to play a game?”
“Me and you?” Hyunjae raised an eyebrow.
“No, everyone is playing,” Taewon clarified.
Hyunjae sighed, closing his laptop. “Fine, I’ll come.”
He slid his feet into his slippers and followed Taewon to the living room. The others were already there, and seemed excited about the game.
“What is this game about?” Hyunjae asked, crossing his arms.
Heejin stepped forward, explaining with a grin. “There will be two teams, consisting of two members each, and one person who will help both teams if they need it. Both teams will be given ten packets of snacks to hide, and the other team will have to find them. There will be turns, and the team that finds the most packs wins. The winning team gets all the snacks, and the losing team has to do whatever the winning team asks.”
Hyunjae scoffed. “Where did this idea even come from?”
Sujae, bouncing slightly on his toes, said, “I saw it on the Internet.”
“You shouldn’t be searching for these stupid games,” Hyunjae muttered.
Soohyun, who was busy setting up the game area, glanced over with a smirk. “If you have any problem, then it’s okay. Don’t play. Anyway, I think this game is a bit complicated for your brain.”
Hyunjae’s eyes narrowed. “What did you say?”
“Whatever you heard,” Soohyun replied coolly.
Hyunjae clenched his fists. “I will play, and I will win!”
“Keep on dreaming!” Soohyun shot back, rolling her eyes.
They started making teams. Heejin volunteered to be the helper.
“I pick Sujae,” Taewon said, pulling Sujae to his side.
So, reluctantly, Soohyun and Hyunjae ended up on the same team after many complaints and groans. The game began with Soohyun and Hyunjae’s turn to hide the snacks. The other team went out to wait in the hallway.
As soon as they were alone, the bickering started.
“Where should we hide this one?” Soohyun asked, holding up a bag of chips.
“Why don't you use your brain?” Hyunjae snapped, rolling his eyes.
“I should have known better before asking,” Soohyun muttered, tossing the bag behind a couch cushion.
Hyunjae grabbed another bag and opened a drawer in the coffee table, shoving it inside. “Why are you hiding them in such obvious places? Are you even trying?”
“Oh, like your spot is so much better,” Soohyun shot back, hiding another bag under a stack of magazines.
“You’re impossible!” Hyunjae groaned, running a hand through his hair.
“And you’re insufferable!” Soohyun countered, crossing her arms.
As they continued to argue, the snacks ended up in the most ridiculous places—one in a flower vase, another taped under the table, one even balanced precariously on top of a picture frame.
“Will you stop being such a control freak?” Soohyun yelled, hiding a bag in the corner of the room.
“Will you stop being so annoying?” Hyunjae shouted back, taping a snack bag behind the curtains.
Just then, Taewon and Sujae walked back in, looking at the scene before them.
“Are you guys done?” Taewon asked, raising an eyebrow.
“More or less,” Soohyun muttered, glaring at Hyunjae.
“Good luck finding them,” Hyunjae said with a smug smile, stepping back.
Within just a few minutes, Taewon and Sujae had found 5 snacks. Hyunjae’s smile was faded replaced by an annoyed expression.
As Sujae and Taewon continued finding the snacks, Soohyun crossed her arms and shot a glare at Hyunjae. "Didn't I tell you they’d find them so easily?"
Hyunjae rolled his eyes and replied, “Oh, please. Most of them are from your hiding spots.”
Heejin stepped in, raising her hands in a calming gesture. “Alright, alright. Calm down, both of you.”
Sujae and Taewon managed to find a total of eight snacks. Now it was Hyunjae’s and Soohyun’s turn to find the hidden snacks. As they waited for Taewon and Sujae to finish hiding the snacks, they continued their bickering.
"Can you at least try not to mess this up?” Soohyun snapped, tapping her foot impatiently.
“Me? Mess it up? You were the one who thought hiding a snack above a picture frame was genius!” Hyunjae shot back, crossing his arms defensively.
Soohyun scoffed. “It’s better than your idea of shoving one under the couch cushion where everyone checks first!”
Before they could continue, Heejin called them inside. “Alright, it’s your turn now!”
They entered the room and began their search. The atmosphere was tense, and their constant fighting didn’t help.
“Move out of the way, I think there’s one behind the curtain,” Hyunjae said, pushing past Soohyun.
Soohyun shoved him back. “I was just about to check there! Stop pushing!”
As they bickered, they only managed to find four packets. When their time was up, Sujae and Taewon celebrated with a victorious hug. Soohyun, frustrated, hit Hyunjae on the head.
“Yah!” Hyunjae exclaimed, rubbing the sore spot.
Soohyun glared at him. “Voice down, I’m elder!”
Hyunjae mimicked her in a mocking tone, “Voice down, I’m elder!”
Soohyun hit him again, and soon, they were at each other’s throats once more.
Sujae stepped between them, trying to mediate. “Come on, guys, stop fighting!”
But in the heat of the moment, Soohyun accidentally punched Hyunjae in the mouth. Everyone’s eyes widened as Hyunjae’s teeth began to bleed.
"OH GOD!" Hyunjae yelled.
Groaning, Hyunjae rushed to the bathroom, holding his mouth. Sujae followed close behind, worried.
Soohyun was about to go after them when her phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID and frowned. “I have to take this, it’s the hospital.”
She answered the call, her expression growing serious. “I’ll be there soon.”
Heejin looked concerned. “What’s wrong?”
“There’s an emergency at the hospital,” Soohyun explained. Just then, Hyunjae emerged from the bathroom, still holding his bleeding mouth.
“Taewon, give me some tissues,” Hyunjae demanded. Taewon quickly handed him a pack, and Hyunjae pressed them against his bleeding gum.
Soohyun approached him, “Come with me, I’m going to the hospital.”
Hyunjae looked at her incredulously. “Hospital for such a small thing?”
“I have to go there for an emergency, and I’ll get your teeth checked as well. My punches are pretty hard,” Soohyun replied, taking a look at his cheek where she had punched.
“No thanks,” Hyunjae muttered.
Soohyun grabbed his arm. “Don’t whine if it’s swollen in the morning.”
Hyunjae sighed, finally relenting. “Fine, I’ll go.”
As they headed out, Sujae called after them, “Don’t start fighting in the car!”
With Taehyung and Jungkook.....
The honeymoon was not going well at all. Jungkook was experiencing severe morning sickness every day, exacerbated by mood swings and extreme nausea.
Most days, he couldn’t keep anything down for more than twenty minutes. Taehyung was deeply worried, and thoughts of cutting the trip short loomed large in his mind.
That night, Jungkook had just finished throwing up. Taehyung supported Jungkook as they walked slowly back to their room. Once inside, Taehyung guided Jungkook to the bed, his hands steadying Jungkook's trembling form. He gently helped him lie down, then poured a glass of water.
“Here, drink this,” Taehyung said softly, his voice tender as he held the glass to Jungkook’s lips.
Jungkook took a few sips, closing his eyes as he rested his head on the pillow. “Rosie, I think we should go back,” Taehyung suggested, brushing a few strands of hair from Jungkook’s forehead.
Jungkook nodded weakly. “I think so too,” he murmured.
Taehyung kissed his head gently, he was clearly worried, “It’s been only a week, and we planned to stay for fifteen days,” Jungkook said, a hint of disappointment in his voice.
“It’s okay, love,” Taehyung reassured him, his fingers tracing soothing patterns on Jungkook’s arm. “When the baby comes, we can have a vacation again, this time with everyone.”
He started massaging Jungkook’s legs and arms, “Should I call Hyunjae and let him know that we will be coming back tomorrow or a day after tomorrow?” Taehyung asked.
Jungkook shook his head, his eyes fluttering closed. “No, he’ll just get worried for no reason. It’s better to just surprise them.”
Taehyung nodded, understanding. “Do you want some crackers? You were able to keep them down yesterday.”
Jungkook shook his head again. “Just not hungry.”
Taehyung sighed but he nodded in acceptance. He continued to massage Jungkook until he fell asleep, the tension in his body slowly easing. Once Jungkook was resting peacefully, Taehyung lifted his shirt and caressed it,
"Baby, don't give your mother a hard time, hmm?"
After spending a little time with his unborn child, Taehyung quietly began to pack their belongings. He moved carefully around the room, trying not to make any noise that might disturb Jungkook’s rest.
As he folded their clothes and gathered their things, he glanced at Jungkook’s sleeping form, his heart aching at the sight. He hoped that getting back home would make things easier for Jungkook and alleviate some of his discomfort.
At the hospital......
Soohyun had gone to check on the patients from the emergency situation, leaving Hyunjae in the waiting area. He sat on one of the uncomfortable hospital chairs, tapping his foot impatiently.
His phone buzzed, and he saw it was Mr. Choi, his secretary.
He answered the call, his voice muffled by the tissues he was holding to his mouth. “Why are you calling at this time?”
“Sir, are you okay? Why does your voice sound like that?” Mr. Choi's worried voice came from the other end.
“It’s fine. Just tell me why you called,” Hyunjae replied, trying to sound normal despite the tissues.
“Sir, first tell me what’s wrong,” Mr. Choi insisted.
Hyunjae sighed, feeling frustrated. “Mr. Choi, why are you so stubborn?” He sighed again, giving in. “I got hurt. That’s all.”
Mr. Choi started fussing over him, asking more questions, but Hyunjae cut him off. “Why did you call me, Mr. Choi?”
“Oh, right. Mr. Min Jaekhyung told me he won’t be coming for the next week,” Mr. Choi said, remembering the purpose of his call.
Hyunjae’s brows furrowed. “And why is that? Why didn’t he tell me directly?”
“His elder brother got into an accident, and remember you left early today, so he couldn’t tell you.”
Hyunjae’s expression softened slightly. “Oh,” he said, hanging up and muttering to himself.
“He must be worried. Wait, why do I even care?” He sighed, feeling conflicted.
Suddenly, he heard commotion from behind him. Turning around, he saw a man standing with a child who looked around 6-7 years old. The man slapped the child and kicked him, causing the child to cry out and apologize profusely.
"Ple-eas-se leave me!"
"Shut up!"
A small crowd started to gather around them.
Seeing this triggered a flood of memories from Hyunjae’s own childhood. His breathing became shallow, and his vision blurred. He tried to take deep breaths but found it increasingly difficult.
He didn't wanted to have a PTSD episode in the hospital, especially because Jungkook wasn't here, but his body was not corporating with him.
His heart pounded in his chest as he turned to run in the opposite direction.
In his haste, he collided with someone, and he felt soft arms wrap around him, steadying him. The person’s was saying something, but Hyunjae couldn’t make out the words.
