Chapter 35
Third person's pov
Jungkook was throwing up, and Hyunjae was patting his back gently. Once Jungkook finished, he rinsed his mouth at the sink, gripping the counter for support.
Hyunjae’s face was pale with concern. “Eomma, are you okay?” Jungkook gave a little nod.
Hyunjae wrapped his arms around Jungkook’s shoulders, guiding him to the living room. He made Jungkook sit on the sofa, his touch gentle. Jungkook said, “I’m okay.”
Hyunjae furrowed his brows. “Is the broth that bad?”
Jungkook shook his head, leaning back against the cushions. “It wasn’t the broth. I just felt really nauseous all of a sudden.”
Hyunjae poured some water into a glass and handed it to Jungkook. “Here, drink this.” He rubbed Jungkook’s back soothingly. “Should I call a doctor?”
Just then, Sujae came downstairs, noticing the scene, he asked, “What’s happening?”
Hyunjae glanced at Sujae. “Eomma felt sick all of a sudden.”
Jungkook took a sip of water, his hands trembling slightly. “I’m feeling better now. I’ll be fine with a bit of rest. Don’t worry.”
Sujae looked worried. “Shouldn’t we call a doctor to be sure?”
Suddenly Jungkook’s eyes welled up with tears. “I’m fine! Why are you both not believing me? Do you think I’m lying?” He started crying, his shoulders shaking with sobs.
Hyunjae and Sujae’s eyes widened in shock. Hyunjae immediately knelt down, wrapping his arms around Jungkook in a tight hug. He rubbed Jungkook’s back, trying to calm him. “Eomma, we didn’t mean it like that.”
Sujae grabbed a tissue and gently wiped Jungkook’s tears. “If you don’t want us to call a doctor, we won’t. We’re just worried about you.”
Jungkook sniffed, calming down a bit. “I forgive you both.” He hugged them adorably, resting his head on Hyunjae’s shoulder.
Hyunjae and Sujae exchanged confused glances, unsure of what had caused Jungkook’s sudden mood swings, but they hugged him back tightly.
They didn't wanted to upset Jungkook again so they thought not to call the doctor.
That night, Jungkook fell asleep quickly, exhausted from the emotional rollercoaster.
Around midnight, he woke up with a grumbling stomach. He rubbed his eyes and decided to head to the kitchen for a snack. Opening the fridge, he spotted a jar of Nutella and a box of kimchi. His cravings took over, and he grabbed both items, placing them on the kitchen counter.
He picked up a pair of chopsticks and started dipping kimchi into the Nutella, savoring the strange but satisfying combination.
His feet kicked lightly in delight as he enjoyed the taste. After finishing his snack, he put the containers back in the fridge and tiptoed back to bed, feeling content.
"It was so good," He muttered to himself as he laid back down in bed.
The next morning...........
In the morning, Jungkook lay in bed, the clock showing it was already past 12 PM. He felt unusually tired and nauseous, even though he hadn’t done anything strenuous. He rolled over in bed, sighing heavily. Just then, the maid came in with a tray, carefully placing it on the bedside table.
“Sir, I brought you some ginger tea,” the maid said softly, standing by the bed.
Jungkook glanced at the cup, wrinkling his nose. “I don’t feel like drinking it.”
The maid looked concerned. “Are you still feeling sick?”
Jungkook nodded, and the maid offered, “Would you like me to massage your legs?”
Jungkook sighed again but nodded, placing one arm over his forehead and closing his eyes. The maid gently lifted his legs, positioning them comfortably before starting to massage.
Her hands moved softly, easing the tension in his muscles. After about 20 minutes, she helped him sit up and handed him the tea.
“Please try to drink it, Sir. It might help with the nausea.”
Jungkook took the cup, managing only two small sips before his stomach churned violently. He quickly set the cup down and rushed to the bathroom, retching into the toilet. The maid followed, she was genuinely worried.
When Jungkook returned, she helped him back to the bed.
“Sir, I think you should go to the hospital,” she suggested gently, helping him sit.
Jungkook shook his head, his face pale. “I’ll be fine. I just need to rest.”
The maid hesitated before asking, “Sir, how long have you been feeling like this?”
Jungkook leaned back against the pillows. “A few days. I’ve been feeling nauseous and tired.”
The maid looked thoughtful. “Are you experiencing anything else? Like mood swings, weird cravings, or dizziness?”
Jungkook’s eyes widened as he realized what the maid actually meant, “I’m not pregnant,” he said quickly.
The maid quickly bowed. “I didn’t mean it like that, Sir. I apologize.”
Jungkook watched as she bowed several times and left the room. He laid back down, staring at the ceiling. Everything started to make sense if he considered pregnancy as a possibility.
“Could it be?” he whispered to himself. He thought for a while longer before deciding he needed to talk to someone. “Should I get a test? Wait, I should first call Soohyun to ask her.”
Reaching for his phone, Jungkook dialed Taehyung. After a few rings, Taehyung’s voice came through, warm and pleasant and usual. “Hey, baby. Good morning.”
“Good morning, love,” Jungkook replied, his voice softer than usual. “Can you send me Soohyun’s number?”
Taehyung sounded curious. “Why do you need it?”
Jungkook quickly fabricated a reason. “Actually, one of my friends is feeling weird symptoms, so I thought to ask Soohyun about it.” He lied smoothly.
Taehyung seemed to accept the explanation. “Alright, I’ll send it to you right away love.”
Jungkook smiled. “Thank youu and send it quickly. ”
“Okay, love. Take care,” Taehyung said, his voice full of affection.
“Byee, love you,” Jungkook replied, hanging up and waiting for the message with Soohyun’s number.
A few moments later, his phone buzzed with a message from Taehyung. Jungkook quickly saved the number and dialed Soohyun, his fingers trembling slightly as he pressed the buttons.
Soohyun picked up after a few rings, her voice clear. “Hello?”
Jungkook hesitated for a moment before responding, “Hello, Soohyun, it’s me, Jungkook.”
“Ah, Mrs. Park, how did you get my number?” Soohyun asked, surprised but polite.
Jungkook took a deep breath. “I asked Taehyung for it because I need to ask you something.”
“Sure, you can ask,” Soohyun replied, her tone becoming more interested.
“One of my friends is 42 years old,” Jungkook began, trying to keep his voice steady, “and he has been experiencing nausea, mood swings, weird cravings, and is also tired. He’s thinking that he might be pregnant, but isn’t 42 too old to get pregnant?”
Soohyun paused for a moment. “It’s actually not uncommon. Judging by the symptoms, I think he might be pregnant. He can take a pregnancy test or go to a hospital for a check-up.”
“Are you sure he’s pregnant?” Jungkook asked, his voice betraying his anxiety.
“As I said, he might be pregnant,” Soohyun reiterated gently.
Jungkook pressed on, “So, what if he’s pregnant? Won’t there be any complications?”
“It depends on his overall health,” Soohyun explained. There was a brief pause before she added, “Mrs. Park, are you really asking for a friend?”
Jungkook laughed nervously. “Of course, who else would it be?”
Soohyun’s voice was kind but probing. “If you are talking about yourself, you can tell me.”
Jungkook sighed deeply, feeling a mix of relief and fear. “Yes, it’s about me.”
Soohyun sounded genuinely surprised. “A-Appa and you did it?”
Jungkook blushed, his voice dropping to a whisper. “That’s not something you should be asking.”
“When was it?” Soohyun pressed.
Jungkook, still shy, replied, “The day we went to the amusement park.”
Soohyun did some quick calculations in her head. “So, about three weeks ago. No wonder you had different clothes that day.”
Jungkook was starting to feel a bit more at ease but still worried. “Don’t tell anyone about my symptoms, okay?”
Soohyun reassured him. “Don’t worry about it. You should take a test or come to the hospital. I can get your tests done.”
“I think I will come,” Jungkook decided.
“You know which hospital I work at, right?” Soohyun asked.
“Yes, I’ll be there in about 10 minutes,” Jungkook confirmed before they hung up.
Sitting in silence for a few minutes, Jungkook’s mind raced. “What if I’m really pregnant? What if Taehyung doesn’t like it? What if Hyunjae and Sujae are disappointed in me?”
His thoughts spiraled until tears streamed down his face. Then, with a sudden mood swing, he wiped his tears. “It’s not like I can do anything right now. I shouldn’t waste my precious tears.”
He got up, dressed quickly, and drove to the hospital. As he entered, he took deep breaths to calm himself. Soon, he saw Soohyun walking toward him.
“Are you still nauseous?” she asked softly.
“Just a little,” Jungkook admitted.
“Do you want any juice or something?” Soohyun offered.
Jungkook nodded. “Apple juice.”
Soohyun nodded. “I’ll tell the ward boy to get it.” She led him to the maternity ward, where they conducted the pregnancy test.
She took his blood sample, handed him a small cup for a urine sample, and guided him through the paperwork. Jungkook’s hands trembled slightly as he signed the forms, but Soohyun’s calm presence reassured him.
Now, they sat in the waiting area, waiting for the result to arrive, Jungkook sipped his juice slowly, trying to calm his nerves. “What if I’m really pregnant?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
“It’s okay, Mrs. Park, It’s not something to be afraid of,” Soohyun replied softly.
“What if the others don’t like it?” Jungkook’s voice wavered, tears threatening to fall again.
Soohyun immediately leaned in, wrapping her arms around him in a comforting hug. “Why wouldn’t they? I’m sure if it’s true, everyone will be really happy.”
Jungkook sniffled, looking up at her with wide, vulnerable eyes. “Will you be happy?”
Soohyun smiled warmly, patting his back. “I will be the happiest, okay? Don’t stress about anything.”
Jungkook managed a small smile, feeling a bit of the tension ease from his shoulders. They sat in silence for a few more minutes until a nurse came over with an envelope, handing it to Soohyun.
“Here are the results,” the nurse said, giving Jungkook a smile before walking away.
Soohyun took a deep breath, holding the envelope. “Are you ready?” she asked Jungkook softly.
Jungkook nodded, his heart pounding in his chest. “Yes.”
Soohyun opened the envelope, her eyes scanning the paper quickly. She looked up at Jungkook, her expression unreadable. “Mrs. Park,” she began slowly, “it’s positive. You’re pregnant.”
As Soohyun said it was positive, she immediately wrapped her arms around Jungkook in a tight hug, her voice full of warmth and excitement. “Congratulations!”
Jungkook sat there, his body stiff with shock. He couldn’t believe it – there was an actual life growing inside him. His mind raced with a mixture of joy, fear, and disbelief.
Soohyun continued to rub his back soothingly, “I’m really happy. I’m going to get a baby sibling.”
Jungkook’s eyes welled up with tears. “B-But woul-ldn’t it be weird?”
Soohyun wiped his tears with her thumb, looking into his eyes. “There’s nothing weird about having sex at middle age, Mrs. Park, It’s okay. It’s a natural process, and you and I are here because of it. There’s nothing to be afraid or ashamed of.”
Jungkook’s cheeks turned a little pink at her words, and Soohyun smiled reassuringly. She hugged him again, patting his back until he calmed down.
After a few minutes, she carefully helped him stand up and took his bag. “I’ll carry it.....Did you come by yourself?”
Jungkook nodded. Soohyun glanced at her watch. “Can you wait for like 10 minutes? Then we can go home together and tell the others.”
“Okay,” Jungkook agreed, his voice soft.
Soohyun smiled and then went to check on the remaining patients. Jungkook sat down, his hands gently resting on his stomach.
Everything felt so unreal yet, so beautiful.
“H-hi? C-can you hear me?” He paused, feeling a connection he’d never felt before. “I don’t know if you can hear me, but I’m your eomma.”
As he continued talking to his stomach, he felt an unknown and unique feeling wash over him. He whispered sweetly, “I love you, so so much.”
After about 15 minutes, Soohyun returned, and they headed to her car. During the drive, Soohyun kept glancing over at Jungkook, “Are you feeling sick? Do you need to throw up? Anything at all?”
Jungkook chuckled softly, shaking his head. “I’m fine, really.”
Soohyun’s genuine happiness was clear, and it made Jungkook feel a little better. As they reached the house, Soohyun quickly parked and ran around to help Jungkook out of the car. Jungkook gave her a look that said, “Bro, I can get out myself,”
As they both stepped inside, the house was silent.
Then Taewon suddenly jumped out from behind the wall, shouting, “Boo!” His intention was to scare Soohyun, and he didn't knew that Jungkook was there too. Startled, Jungkook stumbled back, his heart racing.
Soohyun immediately caught him, “Are you fucking crazy, Taewon?!”
She turned her attention back to Jungkook, her hands on his shoulders. “Mrs. Park, are you okay? Are you feeling any pain? Anything weird?”
