Chapter 30

Third person's pov

In the kitchen, Taehyung was hugging Jungkook tightly, trying to calm him down. Suddenly, Soohyun appeared with a torch, the beam of light casting a glow on her face.

"Appa, here," she said, handing the torch to Taehyung.

"Is everyone okay?" Taehyung asked, taking the torch from Soohyun.

Soohyun nodded. "Yes, let’s go to the living room."

Taehyung nodded back, grabbed Jungkook's hand, and followed Soohyun to the living room. He could feel Jungkook’s hand trembling slightly in his, and he gave it a reassuring squeeze.

In the living room, everyone was seated on the floor. Soohyun brought some blankets and handed them out to each person. The room was dimly lit by the torches and phone flashlights, creating a cozy yet scary atmosphere.

Jungkook was nestled between Hyunjae and Taehyung, his blanket wrapped tightly around him, making him look like a burrito. Sujae was still hugging Hyunjae’s arm. Taewon sat next to Heejin and Soohyun, completing the circle.

Jungkook, his voice small, asked, "When is the light going to come back?"

Taehyung sighed and shook his head. "I don't know. It never goes out at this time. There must have been an issue."

Jungkook tightened the blanket around himself, looking almost comically snug. Taehyung couldn’t help but think he looked adorable, like a treat he just wanted to gobble up.

Soohyun suggested, "Why don't we share horror stories?"

Taewon immediately protested, "No, noona! It's already scary."

Taehyung nudged Taewon playfully. "C'mon, it will be fun."

Jungkook, looking even more like a burrito, snuggled deeper into his blanket and against Hyunjae’s arm. After a bit of arguing, they finally agreed to tell horror stories, starting with Taehyung.

Taehyung took a deep breath, setting the mood with his tone. "Alright, here we go. This is a story I heard from a friend of a friend. It happened in a small, secluded village, surrounded by thick forests. The villagers really brave but they were all terrified of one thing: the old, abandoned house at the edge of the forest."

He paused, glancing around to see everyone’s reactions. They were all leaning in, eyes wide.

"They said the house was cursed," Taehyung continued. "No one dared to go near it, especially after dark. But one night, a group of friends, decided to test their bravery. They wanted to prove that the stories were just myths, so they made a plan to spend the night in the house."

Jungkook shivered, pulling the blanket tighter around himself, and Taehyung noticed Hyunjae instinctively tightening his grip on Jungkook’s shoulder.

"That night was dark. The friends gathered their courage and headed to the house. As they approached, the wind howled through the trees, and the house seemed to loom larger with every step."

Heejin's eyes got wider, and Taewon was already biting his nails.

"The house was cold and musty. Dust covered every surfaced. They set up their sleeping bags in the living room, trying to ignore the feeling that they were being watched."

Heejin hugged her knees to her chest, her eyes fixed on Taehyung as he continued.

"As the night went on, strange things started to happen. They heard footsteps above them, even though the house was supposed to be empty. Doors creaked open and slammed shut by themselves. One of the friends, a girl named Minji, decided to investigate."

"As she reached the top, she heard whispering, like voices coming from the walls. She followed the sound to a room at the end of the hall. The door was slightly ajar, and she pushed it open."

The room was silent, everyone holding their breath.

"Inside, she found an old, dusty mirror. As she approached it, the whispering grew louder. She reached out to touch the mirror, and suddenly, a face appeared in the reflection—an old woman, with hollow eyes and a sinister smile."

Sujae gasped, clinging tighter to Hyunjae, who was also looking increasingly uneasy.

"Minji screamed and stumbled back, but the door slammed shut, trapping her inside. The others downstairs heard her scream and rushed to help. They pounded on the door, but it wouldn’t budge. Minji’s screams echoed through the house, then suddenly stopped."

Soohyun was gripping her blanket tightly, and Taewon looked ready to scream.

"The friends were so scared that they decided to leave Minji and ran away."

Taehyung paused, letting the story sink in. "And then, just as they were about to leave the manor, they heard a knock on the upper door."

At that exact moment, a knock echoed from their front door, making everyone scream loudly in terror. Jungkook jumped up, clutching Taehyung, while Sujae buried his face in Hyunjae's shoulder. Taewon and Heejin held onto each other, their eyes wide with fear.

Taehyung, trying to calm everyone down, said, "It's just the door. I'll go check."

But his heart was racing as he got up and walked towards the door. Everyone followed him with bated breath.

Standing there was a delivery person, holding a package and looking confused by the terrified expressions on everyone's faces.

"Uh, delivery for Kim Taehyung?" the delivery person said, glancing around nervously. It was the black shirt he had ordered 1 week ago.

Taehyung let out a sigh of relief and took the package. "Thanks," he said, closing the door and turning back to the group.

"I told you all, it was nothing!"

After 1 hour........

As the power showed no sign of returning, the group decided it was best to sleep. Hyunjae, Taewon, and Sujae would share one room, Heejin and Soohyun another, and Jungkook and Taehyung would sleep together in Taehyung’s bedroom.

In Taehyung's bedroom,

Jungkook lay on the bed, his eyes wide open, clearly not willing to sleep. He clutched his blanket, looking around nervously at the dark room. Taehyung noticed and sat beside him, gently pecking his lips.

“Sleep, love. I’ll be watching over you,” Taehyung whispered, brushing a lock of hair away from Jungkook’s forehead.

“Promise?” Jungkook asked, extending his pinky in a gesture that seemed more fitting for a child than a 42-year-old man.

Taehyung’s heart melted at the sight. He joined their pinkies together and said, “Promise. Now sleep, hmm?”

Jungkook nodded and laid down, still looking slightly uneasy. Taehyung stroked his cheek and said, “If you want to sleep more comfortably, I can take the couch.”

Jungkook shook his head firmly. “Stay with me.”

Taehyung smiled and nodded, settling beside him. As Jungkook finally drifted off to sleep, Taehyung watched his chest rise and fall, feeling a profound sense of peace.

He gently played with Jungkook's hair, running his fingers through the soft strands, and caressed his cheeks, his touch light.

The whole night, Taehyung didn't sleep a wink. He was mesmerized by the sight of Jungkook, lying there so peacefully, looking like the most precious thing in the world.

He brushed his thumb over Jungkook's cheek, marvelling at the softness of his skin. Jungkook murmured something in his sleep, a small smile forming on his lips.

"I love you," Taehyung said, even though he knew Jungkook couldn't hear him.

In the morning...........

Around 7, the light came back.

Taehyung looked at Jungkook, who was still sleeping soundly, and smiled softly. Taehyung got up from the bed quietly, not wanting to wake Jungkook, and decided to check on the others.

In Taewon’s room,

As Sujae opened his eyes, he felt stuck. Hyunjae was hugging him from one side and Taewon from the other. Taewon’s mouth was slightly open, and drool was coming out, forming a wet patch on Sujae’s shirt. Sujae tried his best to get out of their hold, but it seemed impossible.

Suddenly, the door creaked open, and Taehyung stepped in, looking like an angel to Sujae.

"Oh my, are you stuck?" Taehyung asked, looking at the situation.

Sujae nodded and mouthed, "Help me out." Taehyung nodded, walking over and then he carefully helped Sujae out of the entangled embrace.

“Good morning,” Taehyung whispered, trying not to wake the other two.

Sujae bowed and whispered back, “Good morning, Mr. Kim.”

Taehyung chuckled softly. “You can call me anything else except Mr. Kim. It makes me feel old.”

Sujae looked at him innocently. “But you are old.”

Taehyung just looked at the boy with no expressions, then shook his head with a smile. “You can take a shower. I’ll give you Taewon’s clothes.”

Sujae nodded gratefully and thanked Taehyung.

Taehyung then made his way to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. He started gathering ingredients, moving around with ease.

After a while, Sujae came downstairs, freshly showered. Taewon's clothes were a bit small on him since he was taller, but they seemed to fit well enough. Taehyung smiled as he saw Sujae enter the kitchen.

"I hope you slept well," Taehyung said, flipping an omelet.

Sujae nodded, running a hand through his wet hair. "I did, thank you. Do you need any help?"

Taehyung shook his head. "No need, Sujae."

"But I want to help," Sujae insisted, stepping closer.

Taehyung chuckled and handed him a knife. "Alright then, you can cut the vegetables."

Sujae nodded eagerly and got to work. His skill with the knife impressed Taehyung, who watched him with a smile. As they worked side by side, Taehyung asked about Sujae's college, his courses, and his favorite things.

After about ten minutes, they were done cooking. Taehyung placed a hand on Sujae's shoulder. "Great job. You did even better than me."

Sujae blushed slightly and smiled. "Thanks, Mr. Kim."

Taehyung grinned at his reaction and said,"You can set the table while I wake the others up."

Sujae immediately nodded.

Taehyung left the kitchen and went to Heejin and Soohyun's room first. He knocked lightly before opening the door. Heejin and Soohyun were still sleeping, snuggled under their blankets.

"Good morning, " Taehyung said softly, tapping Heejin's shoulder.

Heejin groaned and slowly opened her eyes. "Morning already?"

Soohyun stretched and yawned. "Good morning, Appa."

"Good morning Soohyunie."

Taehyung smiled and moved on to Taewon's room. When he opened the door, he found Hyunjae and Taewon hugging each other in their sleep. The sight was so endearing that he couldn't resist taking a picture.

The sound of the camera shutter woke them up. Hyunjae opened his eyes, saw Taewon so close, and immediately pushed himself back. He was sleeping on the edge of the bed and fell down with a loud thud, seeing this Taewon couldn't help but laugh.

Taehyung rushed to help Hyunjae up. "Are you okay, Hyunjae?"

Hyunjae winced but nodded. "I'm fine, Mr. Kim."

Taehyung turned to Taewon, who was still laughing and gave him a glare which made him stop his laughter, "Taewon, give Hyunjae a pair of clothes to change into."

Taewon grumbled but nodded. As soon as Taehyung left, the room grew awkward again. Taewon broke the silence first.

"I'll take a shower first, then you can take one after," Taewon said, heading towards the bathroom.

Hyunjae crossed his arms. "Why? I'm the guest, and I should be prioritized."

Taewon rolled his eyes. "Prioritized, my foot. Step aside."

He was about to enter the bathroom when Hyunjae threatened, "Fine, I'll tell Mr. Kim about it."

Hyunjae prepared to shout, "Mr. Kim!" but Taewon quickly placed a hand over his mouth. "Shut up!" he hissed.

Taewon sighed and opened his cupboard, handing Hyunjae some clothes. "Here."

Hyunjae took them but said, "No thanks, I don't like wearing someone else's clothes. I'll just wash my face." He walked to the bathroom, and only Taewon knew how he held himself back from murdering Hyunjae.

Next, Taehyung went to his room. Jungkook was still curled up under the blankets, looking like a sleeping angel. Taehyung sat on the edge of the bed and gently shook him.

"Love, wake up," he whispered.

Jungkook stirred and slowly opened his eyes. "Good morning," he murmured, siting up and nuzzling into Taehyung's neck.

Taehyung wrapped his arms around him. "Good morning. Did you sleep well?"

Jungkook nodded. "Did you?"

Taehyung shook his head. "I didn't sleep."

Jungkook's eyes widened. "Why? Not even for a bit?"

Taehyung smiled softly. "I promised I would watch over you, so no monsters would get you." He leaned in and booped their noses together, making Jungkook smile.

Jungkook pulled back slightly for a few seconds and said,"But still you should have slept now you will be sleepy and the whole day."

"As long as I see you, I am not tried or sleepy." Jungkook chucked at Taehyung's words, and soon he got up.

After the breakfast..........

"Taewonie, can I talk to you for a moment?" Jungkook said, handling the dirty dishes to Taehyung who had moved forward his hands to hold them.

Taewon looked a bit confused but nodded. "Sure, Mrs. Park."

They stepped into a quiet corner of the house. Jungkook placed a gentle hand on Taewon's shoulder, his expression soft. "I am so sorry, Taewon."

Taewon frowned slightly. "For what?"

Jungkook sighed, "I didn't know Hyunjae treated you like that. If I had known before, I wouldn't have let it get to a point where you had to quit."

Taewon shook his head, a small smile playing on his lips. "Mrs. Park, it's okay. You don't have to apologize for something you didn't do."

Jungkook shook his head more firmly this time. "I really do have to apologize. Would you like to work there again? I promise Hyunjae won't treat you like that anymore. I made him understand." He held Taewon’s hands.

Taewon shifted uncomfortably, his mind torn. He had really worked hard for that job and wanted it back, but he was still unsure. "I... I appreciate the offer, Mrs. Park. I'll think about it."

Jungkook nodded, understanding his hesitation. "Take as much time as you need dear."

Taewon smiled, feeling a bit more at ease. "Thank you."

Jungkook patted his shoulder. "Thank you for being so nice about all this."

After 10 minutes..........

Soon Jungkook, Sujae, and Hyunjae got into the car. Jungkook drove to Sujae's college first, dropping him off with a smile and a wave. "Have a great day, baby."

"Thanks, baby boo," Sujae said, waving back as he walked towards his class.

Jungkook then drove back home with Hyunjae. The ride was filled with a comfortable silence, both of them in their own thoughts.

At Sujae's College..........

In Sujae's class, the professor stood at the front, addressing the students. "Class, as you know, there is going to be a play. You are all expected to come with your parents. Siblings are not allowed."

A student named Jun who previously had a fight with Sujae, stood up, a mocking grin on his face. "Sir, what if someone is fatherless?" He glanced over at Sujae.

His friends and a few other students started laughing even though it wasn't anything funny.

The professor scowled at Jun. "That will be enough, Jun. Disrespect will not be tolerated in my class and everyone stop laughing!"

After the class was dismissed, Jun approached Sujae with a sneer. "Remember, the professor said to bring parents. Don't bring your mom's sugar daddies."

Sujae clenched his fists, trying to control his anger. He didn't want to create a scene and worry Jungkook again. Standing up, he met Jun's eyes with a cold stare.

"I could have said the same if your mother was good enough to have any sugar daddies."

Jun's face turned red with anger, and he started shouting, but Sujae walked away, not wanting to escalate the situation. He made his way to the collage's bathroom.

Inside the bathroom, Sujae placed a hand on his chest, trying to calm his racing heart. He fought back tears, not wanting to cry. He had never really missed his father, but moments like these made him wish he had one. Jungkook was his mother and father, but words like Jun's still hurt deeply.
