Chapter 26

Third person's pov

In Park mansion........

Hyunjae meticulously buttoned up his shirt and adjusted his tie. Today was a big day. He was going to meet Taehyung, the man who claimed to love his mother.

There was a lot going to happen.

Downstairs, Sujae was waiting, fiddling with his phone. As Hyunjae descended the stairs, Sujae looked up and immediately straightened. "I want to go too," Sujae said,

Hyunjae rolled his eyes. "You’re still a teenager. This is a talk between adults," he replied, though there was a slight smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.

Sujae puffed out his chest. "I’m way more mature than you. I can handle it so you have to take me with me."

Hyunjae chuckled, ruffling Sujae’s hair. "Alright, as if these words are anything important. "

"Hyunjae, don't be rude. Speak in a normal tone, alright?" Said Jungkook while placing his hand on Hyunjae's shoulder. He was so nervous about this meeting.

Hyunjae sighed, leaning down to give Jungkook a quick kiss on the forehead. "Don’t worry, eomma. I’ll be nice if he’s nice."

Jungkook nodded, concern written his face.

Hyunjae turned and placed a gentle kiss on Sujae’s head as well, then walked out the door, his heart thudding in his chest.

With Taehyung..........

Meanwhile Taehyung was standing in front of his mirror, nervously adjusting his outfit. He had decided to wear something young and trendy: black pants, a fitted black shirt, and a leather jacket. He ran a hand through his hair and took a deep breath. "Fighting, Taehyung," he muttered to himself.

Taehyung’s outfit:

As he headed for the door, Taewon appeared in the hallway. "Good luck, appa," he said, though his tone was neutral. Despite his reservations about Taehyung and Jungkook getting married, he wanted to support his father.

Heejin gave a half-hearted thumbs up, barely looking up from her phone. "Yeah, good luck," she mumbled.

Soohyun didn’t say anything, simply pretending Taehyung wasn’t there.

Taehyung took a deep breath, nodded, and walked out the door. His heart pounded with every step, feeling as though he was heading to a job interview rather than a meeting with Hyunjae.

As he drove to the restaurant, he kept trying to reassure himself. "He’s not going to be that bad. He’s just a protective son."

When Taehyung arrived at the fancy restaurant, he took a moment to collect himself before stepping inside. The ambiance was elegant, with soft music playing in the background and the scent of gourmet dishes wafting through the air.

He spotted Hyunjae sitting by a window, his posture straight and his expression calm but serious.

Taehyung walked over, his heart racing. "Hello, Hyunjae," he said, trying to keep his voice steady as he sat down.

Hyunjae gave a small nod. "Hello, Mr. Kim."

"How is your mother?" Taehyung asked, his voice softening.

Hyunjae’s expression remained neutral. "He’s fine. No burns or anything, thanks to you."

Taehyung smiled, relieved. "I’m glad to hear that. But really, there’s no need to thank me."

Hyunjae leaned forward slightly. "Let’s forget our past interactions. I don’t think either of us has fond memories of them."

Taehyung nodded in agreement. "Agreed."

"Okay not a bad start." Taehyung thought in his mind.

Hyunjae wasted no time. "Do you love my mother?" he asked, his tone serious and direct.

Taehyung didn’t hesitate. "Without a doubt. I can do anything for him."

Hyunjae’s eyes narrowed slightly. "Anything? Would you give him your kidney or liver if he needed it?"

Taehyung’s expression was solemn. "I certainly can. But I don’t even want to imagine a situation where Jungkook is not well."

Hyunjae mentally noted the sincerity in Taehyung’s voice. "Good reply," he thought. But he wasn’t done yet. "How can I trust you won’t leave him again?" he asked, his eyes piercing into Taehyung’s.

Taehyung leaned forward, his eyes locking with Hyunjae’s. "I swear on my life, I will never hurt him again or let anyone hurt him. I want to spend every day making up for the time we lost."

Hyunjae was silent for a moment, absorbing Taehyung’s words. "What if things get tough? Life is unpredictable. How will you handle the challenges?"

Taehyung took a deep breath. "Challenges are a part of life. But I believe in facing them together. Communication, understanding, and patience are key. I’ve learned that running away isn’t the solution. I’m here to stay, no matter what."

Hyunjae nodded slowly, impressed but still cautious. "You say you’ve changed, but actions speak louder than words. How do I know you’re not just saying this to get on my good side?"

Taehyung smiled gently. "You’re right. Words can be empty. That’s why I’m committed to showing through my actions. Every day, I will prove to you and to Jungkook that I am worthy of your trust and love."

Hyunjae continued his questioning, his mind sharp and focused. "What if my mother wants something you can’t give?"

Taehyung leaned back slightly, considering his answer. "No one can give everything. But I can promise to always try my best. After all Love is about compromise and understanding."

Hyunjae leaned back slightly, crossing his arms and tapping his fingers on his bicep. “What about your kids? What if they misbehave with my mother?”

Taehyung shifted in his seat, his hands clasping and unclasping on the table. “I’ll be honest with you, Hyunjae. My kids don’t like this decision. They’re still adjusting. But I’m sure they will never, ever do anything to hurt Jungkook. I’ve raised them better than that. They will respect him.”

Meanwhile, back at home, Jungkook was pacing the living room, his eyes darting between his phone, the clock, and the door. He ran a hand through his hair, his fingers trembling slightly.

Sujae, sitting on the couch with a book in his lap, watched him with a worried expression. “Eomma, it’s okay. Hyunjae will like Mr. Kim. He’s just protective, that’s all.”

Jungkook stopped and gave Sujae a small, tense smile. “I hope so. I really do.”

At the restaurant, the food arrived, but both Taehyung and Hyunjae barely touched it.

The questions went on, each one probing deeper into Taehyung’s intentions and character. Hyunjae asked about financial stability, family values and future plans. Taehyung answered each question with sincerity.

Well at the end, it's safe to say that Hyunjae is impressed.

After sometime............

Hyunjae glanced at his watch and then back at Taehyung. “It was nice meeting you, Mr. Kim.” He bowed slightly and stood up, reaching for his wallet to pay the bill.

"No, no I can pay for the bill." Taehyung said, taking out his wallet.

"No need."

Before Taehyung could argue more, Hyunjae already called the waiter and gave him the money.

As Taehyung watched Hyunjae walk away, he muttered to himself, “Is he always this serious?” He placed a hand on his still-racing heart.

With jungkook........

Back at home, the door finally opened, and Hyunjae stepped inside. Jungkook immediately rushed up to him, his eyes wide with curiosity. “How did the meeting go? Do you like him? He is good, right?”

Hyunjae nodded, his face giving nothing away. “Hmm, I’m impressed with his words. But I just need my final and last test, and then I’ll have no objections.”

Sujae, who had been listening from the couch, stood up and walked over. “What test?”

Hyunjae smirked slightly, “You’ll see tomorrow. And, eomma, you can’t talk with him until my final test.”

Jungkook pouted, his lower lip jutting out adorably. “Why?”

Hyunjae placed a reassuring hand on Jungkook’s shoulder. “Just do as I say. I promise, if he passes this test, I won’t interfere in your romantic life unless needed.” He patted Jungkook’s head and headed toward his room.

Jungkook stood there, still pouting, and Sujae chuckled, wrapping an arm around his mother’s shoulders. “Is my baby boo upset?”

Jungkook nodded, his eyes watering slightly. “I just want this to be over.”

Sujae hugged him tightly. “Don’t worry, eomma. Just trust hyung. He’s doing this for you.”

Meanwhile in the Kim Household......

As soon as Taehyung walked through the door of his home, Taewon and Heejin rushed up to him, a bit excited to ask everything.

Taewon spoke first, bouncing on the balls of his feet. “Appa, how did it go? What did Hyunjae say?”

Heejin’s eyes narrowed slightly, her tone more skeptical. “Yeah, did he give you a hard time?”

Taehyung took off his jacket and hung it on the coat rack, smoothing out his shirt. He walked into the living room, motioning for them to follow. As he sat down on the couch, they both plopped down next to him,

“He asked me a lot of questions,” Taehyung began, rubbing his temples. “He wanted to know how serious I was about Jungkook and everything.”

Taewon leaned in closer, almost tipping over. “What did you say?”

Taehyung smiled and then one by one repeated all the questions and answers.

“He seemed impressed,” Taehyung said, leaning back and stretching his legs.

Taewon grinned. “Appa you ate and left no crumbs!”

Taehyung furrowed his brow. “But I didn’t even touch the food.”

Heejin placed a hand on her forehead, sighing dramatically. “Appa, it doesn’t mean that literally. It means you did a great job.”

Understanding dawned on Taehyung’s face. “Ah, yeah. I ate everything.” He chuckled, feeling a bit silly.

Taewon laughed, patting his father’s back. “So, he’s pleased with you and you’re going to be dating Mrs. Park?”

Taehyung shook his head, “He didn’t give me a final reply. I think he’s still deciding. I’ll ask Jungkook if Hyunjae said anything about me at home.”

With that, Taehyung stood up and headed to his room to change his clothes. As he unbuttoned his shirt and slipped into something more comfortable, he pulled out his phone and typed a message to Jungkook.

“Hey pookie, Did Hyunjae say anything about me?”

Why does 'pookie' feels weird ? He thought but sent the message anyways.

After sending the message, Taehyung sat on his bed, waiting anxiously for a reply. He kept glancing at his phone, tapping his foot nervously. When no response came after a few minutes, he decided to call Jungkook.

The phone rang, but there was no answer. Taehyung frowned, staring at the screen. “He must be sleeping,” he muttered to himself, trying to calm his nerves. He set his phone on the bedside table and laid back.

Meanwhile, at Jungkook’s home, he was sitting on the edge of his bed, his phone in his hand. He could see Taehyung’s messages and missed calls, but he didn’t dare reply. He bit his lip, feeling torn. With a sigh, he turned off his phone and placed it on the nightstand, trying to distract himself by focusing on the book in his lap.

The next morning........

The next day was a quiet Sunday morning, and everyone was home. Jungkook was lounging on the sofa in his pajamas. Hyunjae, looking unusually serious, approached him.

"Get ready," Hyunjae instructed, his voice soft.

Jungkook looked up, puzzled. "Why? What's going on?"

Hyunjae's expression remained soft but voice got a bit stern. "Just get ready."

Feeling a bit uneasy, Jungkook got up and headed to his room to change. Sujae, who was sitting nearby, looked up with curiosity. "Should I get ready too? I want to go wherever you both are going."

Hyunjae shook his head. "No, stay at home."

Sujae pouted but didn't argue, sensing the seriousness in Hyunjae's tone. Hyunjae then walked out of the house and took his phone out of his pocket. He dialed Taehyung's number,

Taehyung picked up on the first ring. "Hello, Hyunjae?"

Taking a deep breath, Hyunjae spoke. "Mr. Kim, I am sorry, but I am not impressed with you, and I do not want you around my mother anymore."

There was a stunned silence on the other end. "What?!"

Hyunjae's voice was cold and detached. "I can't trust you, especially when your kids are still not accepting the idea of you dating Jungkook."

Taehyung's voice became urgent. "Look, my kids are fine with it. They respect Jungkook. They just need some time."

"Whatever," Hyunjae retorted. "And you don't even have a job at the moment, so I can't trust you in any way."

Taehyung tried to interject, desperation creeping into his tone. "Hyunjae, please, listen to me. I can provide anything for him. I really love him."

"This is all I wanted to say," Hyunjae cut him off. "Just informing you that you can't come to our house. I’m sending Jungkook away to another country permanently so he can forget about you. We're almost on our way to the airport."

Before Taehyung could respond, Hyunjae hung up the phone.
