Chapter 13
Third person's pov
Taehyung smiled understandingly and withdrew his hand,"That’s completely okay."
Jungkook stood up, brushing off his pants. "I’ll get going then."
After a shared glance, Jungkook and Taehyung went different ways.
As Jungkook made his way towards his car, he noticed Hyunjae’s car parked nearby. A wave of panic washed over him. "He’s here?" Jungkook muttered to himself.
He turned and saw Hyunjae heading towards the building. Jungkook’s eyes widened, knowing that if Hyunjae found out he wasn’t at the party, he would start asking a barrage of questions. Desperate to avoid that, Jungkook started running towards Hyunjae, but his foot caught on the uneven pavement, and he fell with a groan.
Hyunjae turned at the sound and saw Jungkook on the ground. His eyes widened in alarm as he sprinted over. "Eomma, are you okay? " He helped Jungkook get up, "Who told you to run!"
Jungkook winced in pain, his knee throbbing in pain. "I saw you and was coming towards you."
Hyunjae shook his head, "I bet you can also walk. Why choose to run huh?"
Jungkook grimaced, "Uff, stop these questions. My knee hurts."
Without hesitation, Hyunjae knelt down, inspecting Jungkook’s knee with gentle hands. "Does it hurt a lot? Can you move it?"
Jungkook winced as Hyunjae probed his knee. "It’s not broken, but it hurts."
Hyunjae stood up and helped Jungkook to his feet, wrapping an arm around his waist for support. "Let's get you to the car. I’ll drive."
Jungkook nodded, leaning on Hyunjae.
As they made their way to the car, Hyunjae continued to fuss over Jungkook, making sure he was comfortable and checking his knee. Once they were both inside, Hyunjae started the engine and glanced over at Jungkook. "So, what were you doing outside? Weren’t you supposed to be at the party?"
Jungkook sighed, leaning his head back against the seat. "I needed some air. I felt uneasy outside."
Hyunjae’s eyes softened. "Did something happen?"
Jungkook shook his head. "Don’t overthink."
After reaching home........
Jungkook was standing in the balcony of his room, the cool night breeze ruffling his hair. He stared out into the distance, lost in thought, replaying his conversation with Taehyung over and over in his mind.
Suddenly, he felt a gentle hand on his head. He turned around to see Hyunjae and Sujae, standing there. Jungkook smiled warmly at them. "Kneel down a bit," he said softly.
Hyunjae and Sujae both chuckled before kneling down so their mother could reach them. Jungkook patted their heads affectionately.
Sujae leaned in and kissed Jungkook's cheek. "How was the party, Eomma?" he asked.
Jungkook hesitated for a moment. "Um, it was good," he replied, trying to keep his voice steady.
Hyunjae narrowed his eyes slightly, "Did that man come?" he asked, his tone cautious.
Jungkook quickly shook his head. "No, he didn't," he said in one breath, a bit too quickly.
Hyunjae gave him a suspicious look but nodded, choosing not to press further. They all moved to the cozy couch on the balcony, the perfect weather seemed perfect.
Sujae rested his head on Jungkook's chest, while Hyunjae leaned in from the other side. Jungkook rested his cheek on Hyunjae's head, gently caressing their hair.
As Jungkook looked at his boys in his arms, memories of the past began to flood back.
Flashback.......
It had been two weeks since Jungkook had arrived at the Park mansion. He was still adjusting to his new life, trying to find his footing in the unfamiliar environment.
Right now Jungkook was in the dining room with Hyunjae and Sujae.
The baby in his arms, Sujae, was just a month old, and Jungkook was struggling to feed him his milk. The baby was being stubborn, refusing to drink.
At the same time, five-year-old Hyunjae was sitting at the table with a plate of pasta and fries in front of him, refusing to eat. Frustration bubbled within Jungkook as he tried to manage both children.
"Hyunjae, eat your food or else," he said, trying to sound angry and make Hyunjae eat his food,
Hyunjae crossed his arms defiantly. "Or else what? Are you going to tell that jerk about it?" he retorted.
Jungkook's heart sank at the boy's words. "Hyunjae, don't talk like that. He's your father. Sometimes parents have a different way of showing their love."
Jungkook knew deep down that Mr. Park didn’t like Hyunjae, but he didn’t want a five-year-old boy to harbor such negative feelings towards his father. He believed that it was important for Hyunjae to at least try to maintain some semblance of respect and understanding at this age.
Hyunjae's eyes were sharp, "People treat you the way they feel about you. Don't be so foolish."
Jungkook was taken aback by Hyunjae's mature words and he sighed, "At least take a few bites, please?" he pleaded, his voice softer.
But Hyunjae threw the plate to the floor, scattering pasta and fries everywhere. Jungkook stood up, his patience fraying. "Hyunjae! What are you doing!" he scolded,
Immediately, both Hyunjae and Sujae started to cry, their wails echoing through the room. Jungkook's frustration melted into worry. He quickly scooped them both into his lap, shushing them gently. "Shhh, it's okay, it's okay," he whispered, rocking them back and forth.
He could feel the tears stinging his own eyes, the overwhelming sense of responsibility and helplessness crushing him.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," he murmured, more to himself than to the boys.
As the crying slowly subsided, Jungkook continued to hold them close.
Back to the present, Jungkook continued to caress his sons' hair, with a soft smile on his face.
Meanwhile with Taehyung........
It was 11 PM, and Taehyung was still not home. Taewon, Soohyun, and Heejin, were getting increasingly worried as the minutes ticked by. Taewon, pacing the living room, checked his watch for the tenth time in as many minutes.
"Appa must have had an accident!" Taewon exclaimed, his voice filled with panic.
Soohyun, sitting on the couch with a book in hand, looked up and scowled. "Stop blabbering nonsense, Taewon."
"But Appa has never been this late! Something must have happened!"
Soohyun was about to hit him, when they heard the sound of the front door opening. They rushed to the entrance, their hearts pounding. Taehyung stood there, looking tired but holding a box of chicken wings, a tub of ice cream, and a bag of chips.
"Here’s your stuff," he said in a weary tone.
"Appa!" Taewon said, running into Taehyung's arms. Taehyung, still holding the items, awkwardly hugged him back.
"Uh, what’s wrong with you?" Taehyung asked, puzzled by Taewon’s reaction.
Soohyun took the items from Taehyung’s hands and placed them on the table. "Where were you?" Taewon asked,
Taehyung sighed. "You see, I finished my work a bit late. When I went to Soohyun’s favorite chicken place, it was closed. So, I had to go somewhere else, and it had a long line. That’s why I got late."
Soohyun frowned. "What was the need to buy chicken if it was that late?"
Taewon, still clinging to Taehyung, said, "We thought you got into an accident!"
Heejin smacked Taewon’s head. "Only you thought that, Taewon."
Taewon glared at her. "Don’t lie. When I said it, you had tears in your eyes."
Heejin muttered, "I should just kill you."
Taehyung interjected, his voice firm but gentle. "Stop it, you two! Come on, let me in. My legs hurt from standing in line for almost two hours."
The three immediately stepped aside, allowing Taehyung to enter. He walked inside and collapsed onto the sofa, sighing with relief. Soohyun, crossing his arms, said, "If you ever stay that late again, I will... I will not talk to you."
Taehyung’s eyes softened. "I’m sorry, Soohyun. Come here." He opened his arms, and the three of them immediately hugged him tightly.
"Yah! Are you planning to kill me? Let me breathe," Taehyung said in a nagging tone but had a smile on his face.
The next day..........
The next morning, Jungkook was getting ready for work, carefully buttoning his shirt and adjusting his tie. He hadn’t been to the office in a while and today was one of those rare days he decided to show up in person.
As he made his way to the breakfast table, Hyunjae was already there, sipping his coffee and checking his phone.
"Eomma, what’s the need for you to come to the office?" Hyunjae asked, looking up. "You know I can handle everything."
Jungkook smiled, "Of course, I know my son can handle everything, but a CEO should visit the building at least once a month, right?"
Hyunjae nodded,"I guess so."
In the Office.......
As Jungkook entered the office building, employees bowed to him in respect. He acknowledged them with a nod and a small smile, making his way to his cabin.
Settling into his chair, he began sorting through paperwork, responding to emails, and catching up on the latest reports. An hour later, feeling a bit tired from sitting, he decided to take a walk around the floor.
Stepping out of his cabin, Jungkook walked through the hallways, observing the bustling activity. He noticed a young man standing outside Hyunjae’s office, looking frustrated.
"Why is he like this?! I will seriously go mad with him," the young man muttered to himself, clearly exasperated.
Jungkook placed a gentle hand on his back, causing the boy to flinch. When he turned around and saw Jungkook, his eyes widened in shock.
"I’m so sorry, sir!" he stammered, bowing repeatedly.
Jungkook chuckled softly,"It’s okay, boy." He signaled the boy to come closer which the boy did. "Mr. Park Hyunjae can be quite annoying sometimes, right?"
Taewon, nodded vigorously. "Exactly! But not just sometimes, he is annoying all the time."
Jungkook laughed a little, patting his shoulder reassuringly. "I get that"
Taewon looked relieved and smiled.
Then Jungkook continued his walk, greeting employees and taking in the atmosphere of the office. Most of the staff didn’t know that Hyunjae was his son, so it was sometimes fun for Jungkook to listen what the employees think about Hyunjae.
After 2 hours.......
Jungkook was in his office, immersed in his work, when his phone rang. The caller ID displayed an unknown number. Curious, he picked up the call.
"Hello, who is this?" Jungkook asked.
There was a brief pause before a familiar voice responded, "Hello."
Jungkook's heart skipped a beat. "Taehyung? How did you get my number?"
"I got it from Hyeona," Taehyung admitted. "Um, if you don't like it, I will delete it."
Jungkook sighed, trying to keep his voice steady. "No, it's not like that—" Suddenly, he saw another call coming in from one of the home servants. "Taehyung, I’ll call you back in a bit, alright?"
"Sure."
Jungkook ended the call and immediately answered the one from his maid. "Good afternoon, sir," the maid greeted.
"Why did you call?" Jungkook asked, his tone brisk.
The maid sounded a bit hesitant. "Sir, I got a call from Mrs. Park. She said she will come along with the others for dinner."
Jungkook's face darkened with anger and he hung up angrily.
"Why is this bitch so coward? Can't she just call me directly?"
