Chapter 5: Old Friends
"Nue-chan, I don't understand. How are you still alive?" Naruto asked. "Stop adding -chan to the end of my name. We're not friends." I said coldly. Naruto looked hurt when I said that.
"Nue, snap out of it. I don't know what the Akatsuki has done to you, but you have to stop this nonsense." Kakashi said. "You think Akatsuki brainwashed me? No... You're sadly mistaken. The Akatsuki did nothing but help me. Help me see the real me. They helped me see the truth," I looked at Deidara.
"Deidara, take Gaara and get out of here." I said, emotionlessly. "You plan on fighting them on your own?" Sasori asked. "Better than listening to you guys talk about art, no offense." I said.
I should've kept my mouth shut because Deidara got into the conversation and they both started to argue about what art was. I sighed. "To be honest, I think you should enjoy art while it last. That way, you can enjoy its beauty." I said.
"So, in other words, you're saying art is eternal." Sasori said. "Yeah, I guess." I said. "Now, hold up. I'm the one who showed you my art first. You should appreciate what I've taught you, un." Deidara said.
"All you showed me was how clay can explode." I stated. "But then again...."
Sasori and Deidara both looked at me. "When you blow up art, it also brings out beauty." I said. "So, then. Which is it, un?" Deidara asked. I thought for a moment before opening my mouth answer until Naruto interrupted me.
He started yelling at us, asking us what we were doing. I glared at him. "I don't like to be interrupted." I growled. I ran at him, but I was stopped halfway by Sasori's scorpion-like tail as it wrapped itself around my body.
"Don't attack so recklessly. Last time you did that, you ended up having half of your arm blown off." Sasori stated as he set me down next to him. "It healed, didn't it?" I said, sarcastically. "Watch your tone with me, Nue. I'm very close to killing you." Sasori said.
I rolled my eyes. "Not like you could. Frankly, I don't know how you can kill me. If a paper bomb to the eye didn't kill me, then I doubt your puppets will." I said. "I said, watch it, you brat!" He snapped. "Tch. Whatever. I'm getting out of here." I said to him.
I walked over to Deidara. "Give me your hand." I said. "I know where this is going, un." Deidara said. He held out his hand as I took out a kunai knife. I cut his wrist just enough to make it bleed, then lowered my head to the open wound, licking it gently.
"Just don't take all my blood, un." Deidara said. "I won't, I promise. Besides, it's not like I'm a vampire." I said. Without warning, I bit down on his wound and began to drink some of his blood. When I was finished, I removed my teeth from his flesh, then licked his wound clean.
"I think you were enjoying that." Sasori said to Deidara. "Creep," I said, emotionlessly as I began to heal Deidara. I looked down at my palms and watched as mouths began to form on them. "If I spend anymore time here with those ninja, my "happy" memories will come back." I stated, coldly.
I grabbed some of Deidara's clay and formed a bird. I know I can fly, but I felt too lazy to do so. "Where are you going, Nue?" Sasori asked me. "Away from here. I need to think. I'll come back when you're done with your battle." I said as I hopped on my bird, beginning to fly away.
"Nue-chan! Wait!" Naruto called. "Stay away!" I shouted. I threw three kunai knives at him and he quickly dodged out of the away. My head began to hurt as the memories began to return. 'I have to get out of here' I thought.
I flew above them and out the of the base. "Nue-chan!" Naruto called after me. I made it out of the base, but Kakashi and Naruto started to follow me. I looked next to me and saw Deidara flying by me.
"You have Gaara, don't you?" I stated, deadpanning. "Yeah." Deidara said with a stupid grin. No wonder they're following us. "My plan is to lure the Nine-Tails jinjuriki. That way we can capture it, un." Deidara explained.
Kind of make sense since Naruto is the main prize to the Akatsuki. I flew faster as they were catching up to us. After a while of flying, I realized the two Leaf ninja were slowing down. 'What are they plotting?' I thought.
I saw Kakashi with a hand sign, concentrating. What's he doing? I gasped when he opened his left eye. The Manekyo Sharingan. I looked over at Deidara, then at Kakashi. Dammit! "Deidara, get out of the way!" I called to him.
Too late. His arm was already being sucked in by the vortex until it was torn off his body. I jumped off my bird, hopping onto Deidara's. "Your arm..." I said. I gritted my teeth and let my eyes change color.
I let out an angry cry and pounced at Kakashi. "Nue, don't!" Deidara called after me. I slashed my katana down on Kakashi's head, but he blocked it with his kunai knife. Naruto grabbed my arm and held me back.
"Don't touch me!" I snapped. I used my wings and tails to push him back and he flew backwards. I turned around to pounce at him and kill him, but I froze in place. Something's not right. Why don't I feel Sasori's chakra?
I teleported back to the base and looked around. Puppets were scattered everywhere along with a ton of weapons. I walked around until my foot hit something. I looked and saw a puppet wearing in a red cloak... with red hair?
Oh-no. Please don't let it be...
I got on my knees and rolled the puppet on its back. "Sasori!" I cried in shock. His eyes were wide open as two swords were peircing through his heart. "No... No, you can't be dead." I whispered. I hugged his body as I started to cry.
"This is might be the first time... I've ever seen you cry." Sasori whispered. I lightly gasped and sat up.
"Sasori?"
"Hey, Nue."
"Just hang on! You're going to be all right!"
"Don't be ridiculous. We both know I'm going to die."
"No! I won't let that happen!"
"Nue... stop it."
Sasori reached up and gently placed his hand on my cheek. "You couldn't do anything. This was my battle and I've lost," Sasori smiled, faintly. "This is interesting. A semi-heartless girl... crying over a puppet. Sounds almost childish." He said.
"You may have been just a puppet, but... you were a friend. My friend." I said, hugging him again. Like I mentioned before, I dislike humans, except for the ones in Akatsuki. Sasori smiled as his hand began to leave my cheek.
"Sasori!" I quickly grabbed his hand. "Take care of yourself, Nue. Remember what I've taught you." Sasori said before closing his eyes. I gasped slightly, realizing he was dead. "No! Come back! Sasori, come back!" I screamed.
I held onto his body as if it would disappear and began to sob. "No! You weren't supposed to die! You were suppose to win and we all go back to the hideout together!" I said, sobbing harder. I sat up as I frowned at Sasori's corpse, the tears freely flowing down my cheeks.
I wasn't angry that he died. I was angry at myself for not being able to save him. I rested my forehead on his chest and began to sob again. "Nue." I heard Sakura say from behind me. I lifted my head off his chest and turned my head, seeing her standing there with the old woman.
"I'm sorry." Sakura apologized. "No, you're not," I muttered, coldly as I slowly stood to my feet. "You wanted him dead. You're not sorry at all." My bangs covered my eyes as my hands balled into tight fists.
I turned around and ran at her with rage. "You killed him!" I screamed. I went to slice off her head with my katana, but Sakura dodged out of the way and punched me in the cheek, causing me to fly back and landed on my stomach with a slight grunt.
Sakura quickly tried to restrained me, but I used my tails to scratch her side. She backed off and I ran to look for Deidara. "Deidara!" I called as I ran. I sensed his chakra nearby and ran faster. "Not so fast, Nue." Kakashi said as he got in front of me, stopping me.
I stopped running. "Sasori is dead, and it's all your fault!" I snapped at him. I let my guard down on accident and was tackled to the ground by Rock Lee and Neji. They quickly pinned me down and restrained me with chakra-restraining ropes.
I growled in anger as they lifted me off the ground and made me walk to where are these other sand ninja were at. Chiyo, apparently that was the old woman's name, healed Gaara by giving him her life. "Stupid hag," I muttered.
Sakura frowned at my comment, but I didn't care. "Hold on. Nue's alive? But how is that possible?" Tenten said. "The other Nue is dead." I said, coldly. We headed back to the Leaf Village and Naruto was smiling the whole time we walked. "What are you smiling at?" I snapped. "I'm just glad to have you back." He said, still smiling.
I laughed coldly. "Whatever helps you sleep at night, you douche." I said. I tried thrashing my body around, trying to get the damn restraints off me. "You can try all you'd like, Nue. But those are chakra-restraining ropes. It's useless to keep struggling." Kakashi said, calmly.
"Tell me something I don't already know, old man!" I snapped. I quit struggling and just walked with the Leaf Village fatheads. Looks like I'm going back to my old home. Do they really think I'm still their friends? Yeah, right. Once I get my chance, I will kill them.
