Chapter 37: Forgiveness Is The First Step

3rd Person POV

Hinata kept fighting Pein with her hands glowing a bright blue. No matter how hard she fought, Pein kept dodging her attacks. When he dodged an attack from her, Hinata took her chance and punched off a rod that was pierced in Naruto's body.

Pein used his Almighty Push and hit Hinata. Naruto's eyes widened. "Hi.. Hinata!" He called. She landed on the ground with a big thud. 'Was she dead? No, she can't be!' Naruto thought. "Hinata! Hinata! Hey!" He called to her.

He tried to move, but it was no use as the rods kept him pinned down. "Dammit! Hinata!" Naruto called to her again. Hinata's eyes weakly opened as she was still alive. "Hinata!" Naruto called to her again. She started to move as she tried to stand up, but she fell down on her stomach.

She tried again. This time, she was able to get on her hands and knees. Hinata managed to get to her feet, the wobbly began to walk forward. How is she still moving? Because she has a strong heart. Hinata kept walking until she fell on her stomach.

She got up again and forced her body to keep moving. "Just stop... please. Just stay away." Naruto pleaded, looking away. Hinata ignored his plead and kept walking towards him. She was almost towards Naruto until she fell forward, landing on her stomach.

Hinata stayed there for a moment then began to crawl towards Naruto. Naruto lowered his head to the ground as he just wanted her to run away; He didn't want her getting hurt anymore. Hinata crawled over to Naruto, close to his hand.

"But why? Why would someone as weak as you, try to resist?" Pein asked as he watched the girl who refused to give up. Hinata slowly sat on her knees and grabbed the last rod that hasn't been destroyed.

"Why would you fight me... when you know you'll only die?" Pein asked. Hinata's hands clenched around the rod as she let out small sounds of whimpering. "Because... I never go back on my word." She said, repeating what Naruto said three years ago.

Naruto recognized those words and raised his head so he was looking at Hinata. She looked at him, blood running down her face. "Because... Because that's my ninja way." Hinata said, smiling weakly. Naruto stared at her with wide eyes. His eyes widened even more when Hinata was lifted high into the air. Pein waved his hand down, smashing Hinata into the ground.

Just when things couldn't get any worse... they did. Pein took a rod out of his sleeve and stabbed Hinata. Naruto lied there, shocked, as he didn't say a word.

"It was just like this. When my parents were killed right before eyes... by shinobi of the Hidden Leaf. Because of the existence of love. Sacrifice is born as well as hate. And one comprehends... one knows pain." Pein said as blood ran from Hinata's unmoving body.

And that's when it happened. Naruto's eyes changed red and he snapped. An enormous amount of chakra was released from the Nine Tails inside Naruto. Anger took over his body. Meanwhile, Nue was taking a slow time to heal.

For all we know, she could be dead. At least that's what was thought until her fingers twitched slightly.

Nue's POV

'Pain... Sadness... Anger... Tears... Why am I feeling this? No... It's not me. It's... Naruto. Am I feeling... Naruto's pain?' I thought, weakly. I grunted as I struggled to open my eyes. I flexed my fingers, then slowly sat up. "Oh, thank goodness."

I turned my head. "Katsuyu?" I mumbled. I squinted my eyes slightly. "Thank goodness you made it, kid." Fukasaku said. "What... happened to me?" I asked. "Oh, Nue. You sacrificed yourself to save Fukasaku. Your heart was stabbed and you weren't breathing." She explained.

How am I alive? It must be due to my healing abilities. I looked over, sensing a huge amount of chakra. "Naruto..." I whispered, then smelled blood. Hinata's blood? What happened? How long was I out?

I stood up with a grunt while placing a hand over my wound. "Nue, please. Your body is still healing." Katsuyu said. I ignored her as I walked forward, following the scent of Hinata's blood. "Hey, wait up!" Fukasaku followed me.

I coughed up a little bit of blood as I walked forward. When I got close to the smell, my eyes widened.

I was staring at Hinata's corpse. I fell to my knees, my eyes wide with disbelief. "Hinata..." I whispered. I pulled her on my lap as I gentle held her. A blast occurred, so I used my force field to prevent us from being blow away.

A few tears escaped my eyes as they landed on Hinata's face. I sniffed while rocks and small boulders bounced off my shield. "I'm so sorry, Hinata. I'm sorry I let this happen." I whispered. "She's dead, you moron. There's nothing you can do for her now." Eun said.

"No." I said, frowning slightly. "No?" She repeated. "I can't give up. I refuse to." I said to her. I set Hinata's body down on the ground and took out my kunai knife before slitting the palm of my hand. I squeezed hand into my fist, letting the blood spill on Hinata's wounds.

'Come on, come on' I thought, urgently, as my blood covered her wounds. "Yes!" I cheered as I saw Hinata's wounds closing, but not all the way.  I gasped slightly when Hinata's wounds began to close, but not all the way.

I kept spilling my blood over Hinata's wounds, her wounds somewhat closing up. As least the bleeding's stopped. "But... how is that possible?" Fukasaku asked in disbelief. "Due to my ability to heal, my blood has the ability heal humans." I explained in an emotionless tone.

"Hinata. Hinata, can you hear me?" I asked as I put her head in my lap. "...Naruto." She managed to speak. I sighed in relief. I grabbed under Hinata's arms and began to drag her to safety. "What are you doing, Nue?" Fukasaku asked.

"I have to get her away from here and get her to safety." I said in a serious as I dragged her body away from the battlefield. I looked back where I heard running footsteps. "Hey, can anyone hear me? I need help!" I called.

Neji, Lee, and Tenten saw me and ran over to where I was. "No! Lady Hinata!" Neji said. "She needs treatment right away." I informed. "You did this to her, didn't you!" Neji yelled at me. I went to object until I heard Hinata spoke up, but her voice was weak. "Neji... it's not... her fault."

"Please save her." I pleaded. "I'll look for a medical ninja right away." Neji said. "Can't believe things are this bad." Guy said. "Yep. Things have gotten pretty bad here." Fukasaku said as he hopped on my shoulder.

"You're not hurt, are you?" I asked. "Don't worry about me, kid. How are you doing?" Fukasaku asked me. I went to respond until I covered my mouth, coughing slightly. I looked at the palm of my hand, seeing blood. "I'm fine. Don't worry about me." I lied.

Katsuyu looked at me, concerned. "I'm really sorry. For everything. I had no idea something like this was gonna happen." I apologized. I looked at Neji as he retuned with Sakura. "Take care of her." I said before taking off into the sky.

"Nue, come back!" Lee called after me. As I soared through the sky, the wind blowing in my face. I went into the woods, searching for Konan. I needed to talk to her. While I was flying, I spotted Naruto jumping through the trees.

"Naruto!" I called to him. He glanced back, spotting me. "Nue-chan?!" He said. I flew down to him, tackling him to the ground in a hug. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry for everything!" I apologized, hugging his neck tightly. Naruto hugged me back just as tightly as his hand held the back of my head.

"I thought I'd never see you again." He said. "I'm right here. I'll always be here." I replied, closing my eyes. I smiled as tears of joy ran down my cheeks. "Nue!" I heard Konan say inside my head as she used mind communication.

"I need you to meet me somewhere. It's urgent." She said. "Naruto, I'll be right back." I said as I broke the hug. "Where are you going?" He asked. "Don't worry, it won't take me long." I assured him. I hugged him once more before taking off into the sky.

"Nue-chan!" Naruto called after me. I flew away as I located Konan's chakra. I flew down to the ground and walked over to a tree. I placed my hand on it as it was a fake. I stepped through it and saw Konan with some guy with red hair.

"What's going on? Who is that?" I asked Konan as I walked over to her and the man who was attached to a machine. "This is Nagato. The real Pein." Konan answered. Nagato looked old and seemed like he hasn't eaten in days.

"The real Pein?" I repeated, narrowing my eyes at him. I remembered when the Pein I was with stabbed. "He tried to kill me." I said, coldly. "It was not my intention. But you were the one jumped in front of my attack." Nagato stated in a hoarse voice.

"Fair point." I said. I turned around as I heard someone enter through the fake tree. "Naruto? What are you doing here?" I asked. Konan quickly got in front of me and Nagato. "Konan?" I said while looking at her in confusion. "Konan, stay out of this." Nagato commanded.

"But, Nagato..." Konan started. "It's alright." He said, calmly. Konan put her guard down and stepped aside while Naruto approached us. "Are you him? Are you the real Pein?" Naruto demanded as he was in his Sage Mode.

"So the peacemaker comes stumbling in at last." Nagato said. The two of them stared at each for a while. "Tell me, do you hate me now? I'm the object of your vendetta. Do you wish to exact revenge on me?" Nagato demanded.

Naruto closed his eyes shut before opening them, glaring at Nagato. "Killing Nagato and achieving vengeance isn't going to do a single thing to change the world. You will only get personal satisfaction." Konan said to Naruto with a frown.

"If you could not find the answer, then there's nothing more you can do. So do the just thing and simply sacrifice yourself to me and to the peace I shall soon construct." Nagato said. Some kind of machine opened and shot a rod at Naruto.

"You can't!" I said. I got in front of Naruto as the rod pierced my stomach. "Nue-chan!" Naruto said with worry. "It's fine... I can endure this." I assured with a grunt. "Nagato, please. Let there be another way. I know we can still make peace without killing him." I told him.

"There is no other way!" Nagato snapped at me. I frowned before yanking the rod out of my stomach and throwing it aside. "Then, you leave me no choice. I'll fight you before I let you kill him. If you kill Naruto, you'll have to kill me, too." I said, seriously.

I looked back at Naruto. "Naruto, get out of here while you still can. You have to-!" I gasped when I saw Naruto's eyes were red. Was the Nine-Tailed Fox taking over? "What's wrong, Nagato? What is it?" Konan asked.

I looked at them as Nagato had his head down. What happened? "I came here intending to talk to you. But I also wanted to check something out." Naruto explained. "Check out what?" Nagato demanded.

"I wanted to see how I would actually feel if I stood before my enemy. I wondered what I'd do. I didn't even really know myself," Naruto said, his eyes still red. "And?" Nagato asked. "AND I REALLY CAN'T FORGIVE YOU! I WANT TO KILL YOU SO BADLY, I CAN'T STOP SHAKING!!" Naruto said, his voice full of anger.

Naruto shoved me to the side, making me fall to the ground, and charged at Nagato. "Naruto, stop!" I called to him. He's really going to kill him! Konan got in front of Nagato, protecting him. For some reason, Naruto stopped in his tracks. Why?

As if reading my mind, Naruto spoke up. "Pervy Sage said, he truly believed that the day would come when everyone would understand one another. To tell you the truth, I wasn't really paying much attention to what he was saying. He said he would pass on his quest to me. I was just excited he was complimenting me as his student. Thinking back now, I finally understand what he was trying to say. That nothing in this world was that simple." Naruto said with his head down.

"Oh, Naruto..." I said, sadly. But he's right. There will always be hatred. It will never end. Jiraiya was going to kill me. How are we suppose to understand one another if we can't even give each other a chance?

"However, that still doesn't change the fact that you cannot forgive me. Human love is not so worthless if you can sweep it under the rug." Nagato said. "Yeah. You're right about that. That's for sure." Naruto agreed with him as his head was still lowered.

"Jiraiya-sensei's words reflected idealism from an era that is long gone. Reality is too different. I thought you said you would take me down and that you would bring peace to this shinobi world?" Nagato stated.

I didn't say anything as I stood to my feet. "But those are just more empty words. All you really want is to exact your own personal revenge. If that's your justice, then so be it. You are not a God. That you see reality for what it is, can you truly still believe in Jiraiya-sensei's ridiculous words and outdated thoughts!" Nagato snapped. Naruto lifted his head, looking at him.

"When I found out that you've been Pervy Sage's students too, I thought of something that I'd been wanting to ask you." Naruto said. "What is it, Naruto?" I asked. Nagato waited for his answer. "How is it possible that you were all his students and still ended up the way you are now? I can see that you're not like those others Akatsuki. The ones who just seemed to enjoy killing. But I still... I don't really know anything you yet. So.. I need to hear your stories. Then, I'll give you my final response." Naruto said.

I shook my head. I didn't enjoy killing my teachers. In fact, I hated it. For each teacher I lost, I felt my heart chip. Thinking about it now... I wish I had left Akatsuki sooner. If I had done that, I would've been able to save my teachers.

"Very well. We'll tell you everything about our pain." Nagato said. "I think... I think I need some fresh air." I informed everyone before going outside. "Jiraiya-san... Please tell me. Why did you try to kill me? Please, I have to know." I whispered before looking at the sky.

That was still stuck on my mind. If he cared for me, then why did he try to kill me? "You've got it all wrong, Nue." My eyes widened with alert before collapsing to the ground.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

"Nue, are you able to wake up?" I opened my eyes and saw nothing but white. Where... am I? "Nue," I sat up and turned my head. "Jiraiya-san," I said in disbelief. "We have a lot to talk about, Nue." Jiraiya said with a gentle smile.
