Chapter 35: Attack on the Hidden Leaf Village
Nue's POV
Pein and I headed towards the entrance of the base where Konan and six other people who looked like Pein were waiting for us. "Who are these people?" I said Konan as I put on my Akatsuki cloak. "The Six Paths of Pain." She answered. Six Paths? I don't get it.
"Come, Nue. We're leaving." Pein ordered as he, Konan, and the clones walked out. I followed behind them as we headed to the Leaf Village. I got off the couch and grabbed my Akatsuki cloak off the hook, following them. I'm finally going home.
We somewhat split up. I went with Pein while Konan and the clones were catching up with us. "I hate it here." I said, coldly. "Remember what I taught you. Remember what you've learned." Pein reminded me. I gave a nod and put on the wolf mask Pein gave me.
I spotted some Leaf Village jonin ahead. "Stay here." Pein ordered. I gave a nod and took a step back. I stayed hidden in the trees as I watched Pein singlehandedly defeated the jonin. "Wow. I guess you really are a God." I said, stepping out from behind the trees.
He looked up at the Leaf Village Gates. "The time has come." He said. I nodded in agreement while Konan and the Six Paths landed behind us. "From here on, we'll be splitting into two teams. I'll go over it again." Pein said.
I spaced out on what he said as I stared at the ground, thinking about all the friends I made in the past when I was twelve. "Nue," I looked up, snapping out of my thoughts.
I looked at him. "You will join Chikushodo." He informed. "Chikushodo?" I repeated. Who's Chikushodo? I looked at the female Pein as she stared at me. I guess that's her. Pein looked at the village as if he was trying to see through something.
"A spherical barrier that includes underground in aerial coverage that surrounds the entire Hidden Leaf Village." He mentioned.
"Anyone who enters without permission will be detected immediately by the Leaf." Konan added. "As planned, we will launch Chikushodo into the skies, above the village. We will confuse the enemy by not giving them an accurate count. We will wait for Chikushodo's summoning." Pein explained.
"I was told Itachi and Kisame got inside easily." Konan mentioned. "Itachi was once part of the Leaf's ANBU Black Ops. He knew the jutsu code to get through the barrier. I have my own way of doing things. Now the world shall know what pain is." Pein informed.
I looked at Chikushodo as she was launched into the air. "Go, Nue." Pein ordered. "Hai." I replied and took off after her. "You don't seem to talk a whole lot, do you?" I said as I flew beside her. She didn't answer as she made a hand sign and went through the barrier.
We landed on a roof and she summoned the other Peins. "Scatter." Pein ordered. I did as I was told and took off with Chikushodo. She did a few hand signs and summoned giant centipedes. I looked to the side, noticing a jonin throwing shuriken at us.
I got in front of Chikushodo's side and blocked the weapons with my wings. I threw a kunai knife at him and it struck him in the chest. He went down with a thud, making me sigh. "I got your back, Chikushodo." I said, looking back at her.
I gasped as she threw a kunai knife at me. I didn't have to dodge it as it dashed past me and struck a jonin in the head. "And I have yours." She said back in an emotionless voice. I gave her a nod and jumped on one of the centipedes she summoned, watching the villagers run.
I saw a little girl fall on the ground and an old woman ran towards her, helping her up. A centipede spotted them and dashed towards them. I jumped off the summoning I was on and got in front of the old woman and child.
"No!" I ordered, making the centipede summoning stop in front of him. "You will not hurt them. Our objective is Naruto Uzumaki, so leave them out of this." I said with a frown. The centipede stared at me before moving somewhere else.
I looked back at the little girl and the old lady. "Hurry up and get out of here!" I commanded as the little girl stared at me. "What are you waiting for? Go!" I commanded. "Pretty.." She said, pointing at my wings and tails as they were sticking out of my cloak.
I saw that her knee was bruised, so I walked over to her kneeled down in front of her. I raised my hand over her knee and healed her. She may be a human, but she's still a child. A child who hasn't seen the world yet.
"All better?" I asked her. The little girl nodded with a smile. "Thank you very much. You're very kind." The old woman said, smiling as well. "I'm not kind." I said, quickly, before leaping towards a building.
Iruka ran over to the two humans, then looked back at me. I stared at him for a moment before running off. I stopped after running for a while as I stood on the rooftop, watching the summonings created complete and utter destruction on the Hidden Leaf Village.
"Nue... Houjuu?" I glanced back as I heard my name was called. A jonin stood there with fear written all over his face. "You are... Nue, aren't you?" He asked. How could he have recognized me? Was it because he could see my wings and tails? Probably.
I turned around, facing him. "Where is Naruto Uzumaki?" I demanded. "You are her!" He said in realization. I vanished in front of him and drove my hand through his stomach. "That wasn't the answer I was looking for." I whispered before yanking my hand out of his stomach.
He fell to his knees before falling face first into the ground. I turned around and walked off to find Pein.
"Pein." I spoke, once I found him. He was interrogating Iruka as he stood over him. "Tell me where the Nine-Tails jinchuriki is or else I kill you." Pein threatened him while a some kind of spiked rod slid out of his sleeve.
"Now. Tell me." Pein ordered. "You're wasting your time. I have no intention of telling you anything." Iruka said to him. "I see then. I have no use for you. Nue." Pein ordered. "Yes, sir." I replied before grabbing Iruka's throat.
He grunted as I lifted him in the air. "Farewell, Iruka." I said. I pulled my hand back, preparing to drive it through Iruka chest. As I went to attack, a hand grabbed my wrist and I got punched in the face. I slid across the ground, sliding away from Pein.
"That hurt." I said, emotionlessly, before standing to my feet. I faced the person who punched me as it was none other than Kakashi Hatake of the Sharingan.
Kakashi's POV
I stared at the masked Akatsuki member as they stood to their feet. "Nue, go look for Chikushodo." The orange-haired Akatsuki member ordered her. "Nue?" I repeated. Of course. It had to be her. She's only one I know with those wings and tails on her back.
"Hai." She responded before leaping off the destroyed rooftops. "So, you're the one controlling her." I stated to the other Akatsuki member. "Correct. Nue belongs to Akatsuki." He said. "What have you done to her?" I demanded.
"Nothing. All I did was help her. You Leaf Village Ninja were the one's who were trying to kill her... at least, that's what she thinks." He said with a smirk. "Drugging her with lies, huh? I figured as much from the Akatsuki." I said, frowning.
"Drugging her? No. You have it wrong. It's you who has drugged her with lies." He stated. I narrowed my eyes at him before the two of us attacked each other.
Nue's POV
Where is Chikushodo? I looked around, seeing bodies everywhere. Did I want this? I wanted all of them to suffer, yes. But... did I want them to die? Maybe. I ran past the bodies until I stopped, clutching my heart. I stopped when I felt my heart pound against my chest.
I knew something wasn't right. "Kakashi..." I whispered with wide eyes. "He's... dead..." I fell to my knees as my mask slipped off my face. I pressed my hands to my face as I started to cry. "I didn't want this... did I? It's all my fault. He's dead because of me. It's all my fault." I whispered.
I'm sorry, Kakashi. I'm sorry, everyone. It's all my fault. After crying for five minutes, I sat there on the ground with my knees pulled to my chest, my arms resting on my knees. The wind gently blew in my face as I rested my chin on my arms.
"Nue," I turned my head, spotting Pein as he stood behind me. "What are you doing here?" He asked. "Pein... What... What am I to you? What do you see... when you look at me. A monster... a freak... or a weapon?" I said while gazing at the ground.
I heard him walk over to me and rest a hand on my shoulder. "I see a child who is just looking for answers." Pein answered. "No!" I closed my eyes tightly while shaking my head. "No more of those words. No more of those old sayings. What do you really see when you look at me?" I asked.
He stayed quiet as I felt him staring at me. "You see a monster, don't you?" I said, sadly, while gazing at the view in front of me. "No, I don't see a monster. The only monster here are these people of the Leaf, the ones who have watched you suffer and had you deal with unbearable pain." He said.
I turned my head as he had his hand held out to me. I gently took it and he helped me to my feet. "You will no longer feel pain when this is over. I promise, Nue." Pein said, gently. He bent down and picked up my wolf mask, handing it to me.
"Thank you... Pein." I said, quietly. I put my mask back on and headed off to find Chikushodo. To be on the safe side, I hid my wings and tails inside my cloak so it wouldn't be easy for Leaf Village ninja to recognize me.
I found Chikushodo within five minutes and she summoned a giant rhino. "Do you need any help?" I asked her as I stood beside her. "As I thought," I raised a brow and looked at the ninjas as I saw Shizune holding a rod in her hand.
"This is it." Chikushodo said. A four-headed dog summoning appeared next to us and Katsuyu has already surrounded some of the jonin. "Let's move out!" Ino's father called. Him, Ino, Shizune, and an ANBU Black Op ran off.
"They're escaping. Should I stop them?" I asked Chikushodo. Before she could answer, Ibiki was in front of the summonings, stopping us. "You have to get through us first!" Ibiki called to us. I glared at him behind my mask.
"So, you two have nothing to say, huh? You're no fun at all." Ibiki said. I shouldn't talk or else they'll recognize my voice. "Huh. Well if that's your attitude, then I'm just going to have to make you talk." Ibiki said before he and his comrades charged at us.
"Nue, here." Chikushodo said, holding out her arm. I looked at her arm, then at her. "Drink my blood." She commanded. The real Pein would never let me drink his blood. Not even during my training. "Why?" I asked her.
"This way, you'll obtain the Rinnegan and we can get the job done faster." She explained. Ah, so that's why she wants me to drink her blood. "Okay." I responded before lifting my mask a little. I brought my mouth to her arm and bit down.
Her blood tasted like metal. Like, real metal. As I drank her blood, some slipped down out of my mouth, rolling down my chin. I could already feel her power flowing within me. My heart pounded against my chest, telling me I've had enough blood.
I detached my teeth from her arm and wiped my mouth. "Thank you, Chikushodo." I thanked. The four-headed dogs went after the ANBU Black Ops and I looked at the rhino summoning as it charged at Ibiki.
Its horn went through Ibiki's stomach, but he turned into a puff of smoke. A giant cat made out of iron trapped the rhino inside before chains wrapped around the cat. I watched as the chains pulled the cat statue down to the ground, along with the rhino. "Well played, Ibiki." I mumbled.
He stared at Chikushodo and I, then did a few hand signs. "Summoning: Torture Chamber."
The atmosphere changed as wires wrapped around my body. I looked over at Chikushodo as she was in the same situation I was in. 'So, this is what the torture chamber looks like' I thought to myself. "I'll make you loosen your tongue and you'll tell us all of your secrets." Ibiki said.
More wires wrapped around our bodies and they began to tighten slightly. I expected to feel pain, but to my surprise, I couldn't feel anything. In fact, everything in my body felt numb. Were these the powers of Chikushodo? "Pain. Nice name." Ibiki commented.
I looked over at Chikushodo as she didn't express any emotion. She looked like a doll. "Pain is the most reliable form of communication. Let me feel your pain, too." Ibiki said. The wires wrapped around us tighter and I still couldn't feel anything.
"Yes, that's right. Pain simply cannot tell a lie and through pain, we are all equals." Ibiki lectured before walking towards us. "I'm going to share your pain and through it, I shall learn all about you. Now, you show me who the real you is." Ibiki commanded.
As the wires wrapped around our bodies tighter, I still felt nothing while Chikushodo stared off into space. I could tell she wasn't going to talk any time soon. Ibiki grabbed her face, examining her. "Don't touch her!" I snapped, making Ibiki look at me.
I glared at him behind my mask as he turned his attention towards me. "And just who are you? Her sister?" He asked. I didn't answer as I continued to glare at him. But he couldn't tell due to the wolf mask that was over my face.
"We'll just see who you really are." Ibiki said before removing the mask fro my face. "Nue Houjuu Satori. I should've known." He said with a smirk. "Satori is not my name. That name died a long time ago. It's just Houjuu now." I said, emotionlessly.
I growled under my breath as he roughly grabbed under my face. "What has Akatsuki been telling you? What did they promise you?" He demanded, frowning. "I don't need to answer that to you." I said, coldly.
Chikushodo was quickly beside Ibiki as she grabbed Ibiki's wrist, making him release his grip on my face. "I won't allow you to harm this child." She said as her grip on his wrist tightened.
"Summoning Jutsu!" She slammed her other hand into Ibiki's stomach, in which he screamed in agony, and fell to the ground.
Chikushodo tore the wires off of me and the torture chamber dispersed. I picked my mask up off the ground and placed it back on my face. A bird summoning came through Ibiki's stomach and the rhino that was trapped the iron cat burst out of the ground.
Even the four-headed dog summoning came out of its trap. Chikushodo made more hand signs and created more summonings. "Scatter." She commanded. I gave a nod and ran off, running past some demolished buildings. "H... Help... Please..."
I stopped and looked over when I heard a whisper. I noticed two pairs of arms sticking out of the rubble and walked over to them before getting on my knees and digging out the rubble. "Kiysohi! Misaki!" I said in shock. Kiyoshi slowly opened his eyes and glanced at me.
"Who... are you?" He asked, weakly. "It's me!" I took off my mask, throwing it to the side. "Nue... I can't believe it..." He said, lifting his head, slightly. "You've... finally... come home..." Misaki said with a happy and weak smile.
Tears gathered in my eyes as stared at them in guilt and shock. "No... What... What have I done?" I whispered. "Nue... Let's go back... to those days... Lets' return... to those happy days we spent..." Misaki pleaded, weakly. "Together..." Kiysho added, his voice just as weak.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." I said as I bent over and gently hugged their heads. "Nue, don't cry. It's... okay." Kiyoshi tried assuring me. "Nue... It's... okay..." Misaki agreed. The two of them closed their eyes at the same time and the slowly changed into their animal forms.
"No... No...!" I held them in my lap as I cried, my tears dripping onto their bodes. "No..." I sobbed. "I didn't want this. I never meant for them to get hurt. I just... wanted justice." I said before sniffling.
I did this...
I caused this...
I made this happen...
It's all my fault...
"I love you... I love you guys so much..." I whispered. "Just close your eyes... You'll be alright... Come, morning light... You and I'll be safe... and... sound..." I sang softly as tears rolled down my cheeks. "Nue?" I looked behind me as Sakura stood there.
"They're dead... and it's all my fault. But you can't rewind time... Right, Sakura?" I smiled softly at her as the tears kept flowing down my face. Sakura looked at my dead pets as they rested on my lap before looking at me.
"Nue, what happened?" Sakura asked as she slowly walked towards me. "No..." She stopped in her tracks as she stared at me. "Please... Just leave me alone." I said. I vanished to the roof of the Hokage House with my dead pets and sat there.
They peacefully rested on my lap as my head lowered with my hair covered my eyes. "Why...? Why do I always end up alone?" I whispered. "One last time... before I forget... Please... just scold me... one last time..."
